The men made basic meet and greet then got stuck into it KNOWING the importance of establishing a base and the women...spent practically the whole day socialising and forgetting WHY they're on the island...

The fishnet was found on the beach and was damaged and one of the men spend like 3 full days trying to repair it while the others of the group criticize him saying that it was stupid spending time in something that wouldn't work and after he made it work they apologized and recognize that they were wrong.
An emotionally mature person, men or women, will be convinced by results.
That's honestly sick, they criticized him because it is logical to think that it's near impossible to repair a fishnet with the tools they have, but he made it work, so the others respected him and apologized
That is not everything. They criticize the person because at that point, the men has no food. They eat like 2 pcs of slug per person per day and some thought it would be better if that person helped scavenge food than gambling on the fish net. Take not, he finished it after 3 days. That means he also never helped with anything else for 3 days.

It was such a culture shock, my first job was male dominated. The guy who knew his shit was always the one to lead even if they were rough around the edges and hard to get along with. Then moving into a female dominated work space was a popularity contest management was too occupied with appearing "nice" then actually dealing with the problems so you would have employees making costly mistakes, not showing up for work, but there would be no consequences because management didn't want to appear "Mean" and lose their popularity.
Also rampant gender discrimination, I was denied job roles and they straight up sent me an email saying it was because I am male, only later realising that is illegal and they just sent me their crime in writing and quickly doubled back once I threatened lawsuit.
For the series directly after this one, I think the producers tried to over correct _massively._
They got the weakest, most metropolitan men they could find (one of them was a Muslim who started crying for _no reason at all_ after only 15 minutes of reaching land) and they chose a war veteran for the women's team.
EVEN THEN, when the two teams met, the men found out that women's team had been drinking from a dangerous, bacteria-infested pool and helped them get a new water supply and a better camp (meanwhile, the girls complained about the men 'taking charge' when they were literally close to death).
Also, that army veteran ended up getting PTSD when a storm rolled through and had to leave the island anyway, which was a terrible shame, because she was the only one who seemed competent.
Dang,even with the advantage women still rely and blame men for problems.The only successful women are the ones that realise that they are in a world where men are in charge

Men got dropped off in rocky and rough waters, while the women got placed in calm waters next to the shore.
Each team had 1 nature expert/survivalist. The men upon landing immediately voted to put their expert in charge. The women spent the entire time ignoring theirs to the point that she got fed up with them and started doing her own thing. Lol
Now I am alright with taking care of myself in a survival situation BUT there is always somebody better and more experienced than I. so the better one is the one I am going to listen too (might pick up a new trick or five, always a good thing)

Both teams also had a doctor and a nurse.And while Fran was passing out from dehydration, the nurse and the doctor went off with the search team to get lost in the woods, looking for a better camp
Apparently one of the women was a professional survivalist but all the other women kept shutting her down and ignore all her advice.
All of the women were like 'nobody is the boss of me' but none was willing to step up and take charge.
Sadly, once men are out of the picture, women start fighting eachother. They want to be catered to, yet noone wants to do the catering.

I watched this entire show. The sad part is that I felt like they tried to script the women doing better, but they made terrible decisions which resulted in them doing worse. There were domesticated pigs on the womens island. Instead of eating them, they named them. Some random person came by on a boat and just handed the women food.

I would not be surprised if the show runners decided to just vet for extra helpless women to make it more entertaining to see the differences. The show predates current year politics where the women have to look better.

It would be shows with the husband being overly moronic while the wife is unrealistically competent at the same time. And has only gotten worse.
Now you have shows supposedly "serious" ones where the women are hyper competent to the point of being power fantasy while the men are so comedically either bad or incompetent that no one realistically could live like that. Wouldn't be as bad if they at least stopped pretending they are supposed to be semi realistic shows.
This show DOES predate the extreme explosion of the phenomenon to its current absurd proportions though.

The worst part is, the women had a survival expert on their team, but when she actually gave advice on what to do, the women got competitive (which is the last thing you do in a survival situation) and bullied her away. They literally kicked out the only helpful person on their team because they were jealous and cocky.
Well it's also the fact that they don't like to be told what to do, yet refuse to take any lead or responsibility, if this situation is for real without any sort of help, this group of women would literally be dead within the first week except the doctor and survival expert.

True, in this instance. But it could have been that the boys had an idiot who disorganized the whole group. Mindset is everything in survival and they actually worked together on important things. I think it basically comes down to this: women are used to having things done for them, men are used to doing things for themselves.

Oh, I remember this show. The guys were basically having a fun vacation, while women were barely surviving. Imo, this experiment exposed the importance of task-oriented mindset and willingness to let go of your ego.
No I watched s2 recently and while the men did do better than the women they still had a terrible time.
And in s3, while it's harder to decide since the 2 groups end up working together, but at the start they're arguably doing worse than the women (although tbf they started with some dead weight).
@@raitoiro I'm going to go on a limb and say that for season 3, by your description, seems like the show had to make an IMMEDIATE about face to make up for and save face for the women in S2.

That said I'm not sure there was a need to save face, the women from S2 didn't do good but also didn't do nearly as bad as that video tries to portrait.
In fact, you shouldn't take what you see in the vid at face value, it has some of the most bad faith editing I've ever seen. To give you idea: the guy that says that "he is doing great and that living on the island is just another day at the office" isn't actually doing well, at all, at that time the men were actually famished and many of them were too exhausted to look for food, the guy was saying that to motivate himself and the other to act.

I'm glad you mentioned bad faith editing. I wasn't going to watch the original show, but I found the clips to be vaguely enjoyable. I suspected the guys would've had some issues, at the very beginning, at least. So thank you for more context. That being said, in the end, the net result is still the same- despite the trials and tribulations, the men had a better go of it than the women, and it mostly came down to mindset, such as being weak and/or sick and still psyching yourself up to do what you need to by saying "it's just another day at the office."
@raitoiro While it's true that Vic wasn't being accurate about the overall situation, even knowing the context it makes sense to include in the video. Contrast it to all the scenes of the women falling to bits, crying and yelling at each other.

In all fairness, I have done that in unfamiliar areas. Heck, I've even done that in the woods behind my old neighborhood, and I basically grew up back there.

@@letsdothis9063its really simple but worth the effort of navigation in the wild. If you know the concept of 3 point locating, just do as follow. Every 10 trees you walk 90 degree left and right and carve the trees with wanted direction the same as the middle one (middle as nodes) with reasonable distance. Do that step on every 2nd node. If you walk in a circle, the chance of seeing the old tree and know it is time to turn around

So there are some things you should know about the show.
Before they went to the island they were given 72 hours of intensive survival training. Both men and women. Each group had a survival expert and 2 medics or doctors.
The men put that survivslidt in charge and listened to him. The women yapped and ignore her.
Each team were given 2 metal water tanks for purifying water. The women left food in 1, which went rotten and they threw the tank into the ocean to get rid of it. Leading to the dehydration. Also in attempting to purify the water they left the screw cap on which lead to it expoding and injuring a member of the women's camp.
The men captured and ate, fish, stingrays, snakes, crocodiles and shellfish.
The women ate random coconuts, and after 3 weeks were given 2 domesticated pigs which were left tied up in a beach. Instead of eating them they gave them names and fed them and then released then. Instead of taking the 10k calories they contained. They were also given cans of beans and water by "random" fisherman.
The women spent a large amount of time tanning and laying on the beach. Essentially treating it like a holiday. And suffered the consequences of it.
Easy at first but difficult soon
The fishermen gave them a huge fish for free too.
Those pigs were definitely getting eaten by crocodilians or picked up by staff for the show. They didn't even save them.
Oh my f-ing god... that makes it so much worse. The women clearly proved that they had no foresight or understanding of how serious the situation was. They clearly learned nothing at all in those 72 hours and even though they were struggling, crying and collapsing they always had a person there that could have bailed them out if they only listened to her. The pig thing is just the cherry on top of a mountain of bad decisions.

The contestants are given a crash course in survival training before they are sent to the island, and have at least one contestant with medical training as well as a proper doctor to be called in for emergencies.

The Women giving up on making fire in the start was the beginning of their downfall. No warmth, no ability to sterilize their water, no ability to cook any food. 3 very crucial needs for survival.

In a survival situation you don't argue, you do. You ralley around a leader and find how you can best contribute. You follow orders and you leave your ego behind because pride won't fill your stomach or keep you dry.

Apparently she was a "professional survivalist" but couldn't get the other women to listen to her, even though they knew she was a professional.
Each team had 1 "survival specialist" who was going to help them survive. The men picked their leader to be the specialist, whereas the women apparently never really bothered and did not pay attention to their designated specialist, so she went ahead and did everything herself.
the main advantage of men is not in physical strength, not in brains, but in the fact that they are able to choose a leader among themselves, and then assign roles and work in a team. The main problem with the women's team is that everyone wanted to be in charge, but no one wanted to do anything. in the end, they didn't do anything at all. pride and selfishness turned out to be more important to them than survival. male pride is not hurt by the fact that someone else can be the leader. after all, leadership is not only power, but also responsibility.
First video of yours that I saw (YT's been pushing this particular one) and it was entertaining.
With the fishnet, it reminds me of a tale where two men were in charge of feeding a village of women. The women praised the first man for catching fish with a pointy stick and called down the second man for sitting all day. Yet the first man praised the second for being much better than him, which was proven on the 2nd week, when the second man finished his fishing net. Up til that point, the first man was making a decent harvest, but now the second man's efforts lead to a plentiful harvest.
The point of the story was to say that everyone has their strengths, and they are all valuable. For the second man brought more fish, but the first man made it possible. The only thing that was needed is for both men to support each other.

I can't even understand this. If they went in a straight direction, they'd be fine. If they just followed the beach either way, they'd eventually reach their destination. Once they screw up the first time, do something different until you find a method that works, holy hell.
Craziest part wasn't even shown in that vid, either: at one point, some of the women actually broke down and WENT OVER TO THE MEN'S CAMP for temporary aid! And the men were doing so well and felt so bad on seeing them that they gave it freely. No shot; it was recorded on camera and everything.

To be fair trying to start a fire with a near sighted prescription wouldn't get you very far as it would scatter that light, not focus it. Most common reason for glasses is nearsightedness so not likely to have a viable pair.

The men vs women season was done because the show was considered sexist for having only men during season 1, they were also called sexist for how bad the women did during season 2 even though the selection process was the same. Each group has a few selected experienced survivalist selected and a majority normal people. The women just didn’t listen to their survival experts because they thought they were too bossy.

It depends on situation. I can see how to at least get own harem if no chance of getting saved. But if there is a chance to get back to civilization- man are better choose.
Honestly I'd probably prefer to be alone in a survival situation than with 99.9% of women.
So strange that the women had issues.
1) Look at how often they would sit down and cry about their situation. That obviously would be such a huge help.
2) Look at the hours they spent sitting in circles and talking about their feelings. How could that not bring success?
3) Look at how strongly they refused to even accept to have a group leader. With so many individual strong leaders in their group it's clear they would have no problems at all.
It largely comes down to how much they were being downers and talking about their feelings which opened the gates of negative emotions which lowered their (as women) already lower testosterone secretion. (your brain tends to lessen or shut down signals to produce testosterone when you are feeling down is the simple way to explain it)
Why were the men doing so well: positive attitude and naturally higher testosterone which has been shown to correlate with spatial memory, a large part of survival since that includes ability to hunt and navigate.

What's ironic is IIRC, everyone involved in this was actually given a week's worth of survival training... And yet you can see exactly HOW bad it got for the women's team. The women's team treated it like they were given a vacation.
As for the fishnet, the men found something like a volleyball net and turned it into a makeshift fishing net. It wasn't successful at first, they even berated the guy who kept trying to fish with it, but when he got a big catch, the group's fisherman showed his respect to the fisherman's net guy.
Also yes, the women DID keep 2 piglets as pets, even naming them Sage and Onion. They were badly starving, had 2 piglets, and they STILL let them go.

I'm pretty sure it was an actual fishnet. Those wash up on shores all the time. They're also nearly impossible to untangle, so props to the guy who did it. A volleyball net would make a terrible fishnet anyway, no matter what you did with it. The holes are too big, and the threads are too visible. Small fish won't get tangled in them.

Greatest irony: the women didn't need to move at all. Being by the shore with light woods as your backdrop is the MOST KINO place to be surviving on an island. You're close to water to boil, tons of oxygen to keep fires going, great visibility, plenty of sunlight to keep your metabolism working properly, fish to catch, seafood, and on bad nights, you retreat into the forest with torches that provide light and smoke out predators (most animals rely on olfactory sense the heaviest).
They did everything wrong out of arrogance and anxiety. The number one killer in any survival sitch is anxiety. Beforr you build your fire and shelter, you take a breath, slow down, and analyze the situation. Hard to do that when you're full of yourself from your comfy living, and your need to verbally preen and peacock over ome another as a means to establish dominance via pointless, energy-sapping yapping like the women did.
If I was in this show, I would BEG the crew to let me join the guys because I refuse to work with women like this! 😂

If you were truly brave and capable, you'd try to create a faction with all the women who were willing to work for survival (with the guide included) and then just survive and prove the other women wrong. After a little bit of time the rest of the women would come around to collect any benefit and you make it clear that to eat, they would need to earn it.
