    Looks like autumn and winter have collided in dramatic fashion. Hard to believe it’s been 5 years since you started out as a pro and absolutely no reason why you can do another 5 years and more. One of facets of your channel I really admire Henry is you have grown organically and been true to your work. I would imagine there is a temptation to chase the algorithm but you also know the downside to that approach. You always come across as both passionate and down to earth which I feel really connects with your subscribers so keep doing what your doing and keep showing the beauty that your eyes and your camera discovers on your adventures

    I purchased a point and shoot (Ricoh GRiii) for an everyday carry and to help me focus on things like composition and framing. I usually set it 1:1 and black and white. I’m constantly moving from landscape to portrait. So no, my friend, you are not the only one😂

    You’re funny, genuine and honest. This makes your videos very watchable, entertaining and interesting.
    I have a question: why do so many people say that a certain f/ number changes with the format you are shooting? F/5.6 is f/5.6, it’s a lens thing, it only depends on the lens, what sensor you record the image on should not make a difference, so why do you say f/5.6 on a MFT camera is the equivalent of f/11 on FF?
    Oh, and that bumbag you are using, I just got mine after taking a hint from your gear list!

    • @HenryTurnerphoto
      @HenryTurnerphoto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks! The hip pack is brilliant. I just want to ensure people understand the difference in depth of field between systems. For instance, if a beginner shooting full-frame sees me using f/5.6 on my Micro Four Thirds camera to focus on the foreground and achieve everything in focus, they might try the same with their full-frame camera. However, when they review their image, they'll likely find the background blurry, which can be quite frustrating. It's important for me to highlight these differences to avoid confusion.👍🏻

    Hi Henry, another grand day out that seemed to go by in a flash. Thanks for sharing. Amazing how time flies, seems like only yesterday the D7200 took a bath too. A good tip from you on the "intimate leaf" shot. I made the same mistake as I got a bit greedy with aperture, trying to exaggerate the separation of the subject from a very messy background, and got part of the leaf ( subject ) out of focus because the useable depth of field was too shallow ( the leaf was at a slight angle, so at one edge it was outside the focal plane ). I'd just got a 50mm F1.8, after working with a kit lens, so you can see how it happened .. Lesson learnt! Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to the next 5 years of your work. Definitely no Blandscape photograhy from you ;-)

    The other thing about using normal walking/hiking books is that you are more likely to get original shots. If you use walks that are based on their photographic interest, a lot of the shots will have already been shot. That being said, it is still cool to take photographs from popular area and putting your take on that composition.

    Yes Henry!... yes I do!!! Going waaay back to my first camera in 1963 I rotated between 90 degrees for landscape vs portrait. It's been a while since commenting. Life demands and directions do distract us regulars. Your work is evermore brilliant. My wife and I visited Inverness area and hiked a bit... no memory of where. Scottish landscape beauty stunned us as permanent memories to treasure, even a midnight walk in a stockyard filled with cattle lit by a full moon. The steam rose off the beasties as the temps were near freeze level. Yo! Henry... I feel your work never misses a beat... and your B roll bits and camera stick, and tripod view for us to hear when putting up photo examples against a backdrop... this is absolutely top notch. True That!!! Old Sam... still walking working, shooting and playing music. Thanks Henry!

    I used to love photography. Mostly portraits and such. Then someone told me I was good at it and should try to make money with it. And so I began the process of sign😢up for the web sites to sell photos, making a fb page to get clients and trying to turn it into a business. For better lenses, subscribed to adobe to edit my images. A year later and a lot of money pissed away, failing to sell anything at all, I lost the passion for what I initially loved doing. At this point I haven’t even picked up my camera in a couple years. Recently though I’ve caught the bug again but this time, just for my enjoyment. And I’m really thinking I wanna try my hand with old film cameras.

    Henry, can you (or anyone else) please explain what you mean by f5.6 being f11 on a full frame?

    • @HenryTurnerphoto
      @HenryTurnerphoto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! The sensor size affects depth of field. On a Micro Four Thirds camera, the sensor is half the size of full frame, so you double the f-number to get an equivalent depth of field. For example, f/5.6 on MFT gives the same depth of field as f/11 on full frame, just like you double the focal length to get the equivalent field of view. Hope that helps!

    • @grahamstretch6863
      @grahamstretch6863 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@fiizzy3884
      Just remember that it only affects the equivalent depth of field, the aperture f number stays the same, so a photo requiring f/5.6 on a crop camera will still be f/5.6 on a full frame camera however the picture with the crop camera will have more DOF than the full frame camera.
      Oh, one more thing, if you change the focal length (zoom) or change position (foot zoom) so that the picture from both cameras is identical then the DOF will be the same! It can all get a bit complicated! 🤯
