    "That gaff", is actually a turbine house! It provides power for High Hackett about 1k away up the hill!
    Great video of an area I know well, Dad and my Grandparents lived just up the hill at Oxen Fell.

    Hi Henry, another grand day out and thanks for sharing. As one that tends to get a bit stuck having decided what I would want to shoot in advance, I adopted the idea of "shoot what's there". Its so much more rewarding using the idea of the esteemed philospopher, one Forrest Gump. .... ( photography ) Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. So I just take photos of things l like the look of. Its never going to be award winning, but I don't mind. My photography has improved no end since i started watching your channel.

    Love slaters bridge and cathedral cave, the caves have some abstract potential but other than that the composition is limited to what’s been done over and again, slaters bridge has so much potential and I definitely plan on a trip out in the next two weeks as autumn kicks in proper

    As a regular view Henry, at the risk of rocking the boat, I think I enjoy your earlier clips more. I find the over use of the video camera on the stick can make an older viewer quite giddy. I prefer your piece to camera work without the movement. I also miss your tripod. Your tripod process provided the opportunity to slow down and plan a shot and also experiment with various settings…..without altering the camera position. This is a process that I now enjoy. I also used to enjoy the music background and the sharing of your camera settings. Not convinced about where your camera is carried. They are expensive pieces of equipment and I think the camera case still has a role. Thank you for your clips, we always learn something. (Including always having the polariser handy.) Keep up the good work. Mark….in Australia.

    I would say your comments today Henry echo my own sentiments. If you only think golden hour / blue hour then you are limiting your opportunities to learn and missing out on the adventure too. Also going out with a mindset that ultimately doesn't relate to the conditions can have that negative effect on the mindset. I've been there in the past but now it's take it as it comes and again use the opportunity to learn from the experience

    I agree 100% about expectations. Trouble is, I still shoot myself in the foot (no pun intended). Especially if I'm in a nice location, all I can think is "...I HAVE to get a good shot!!! It'll be months before I'm in another nice spot, I HAVE to get good shot, HAVE to!" But at the time time I'm thinking, "I'm gonna blow it, I know already I'm gonna blow it -- I'm not good enough!" 😀 Talk about going out of one's way to sabotage one's self... LOL What a beautiful location and a stunningly nice walk. Enjoyed it!

    What a lovely area to walk through and nice photos you got from it too. I think peak autumn colour fools us at it tends to come all in one go in November and by then there are too few leaves on the branches. Maybe outside of Summer the midday sun isn't going to be too high and contrasty anyway?

    Another great video Henry. I love my 7Dmkii, but on holiday in Lisbon I wish I had a similar lightweight camera to you. Due to luggage limitations I had to bring my little canon power shot that fits in my pocket. It's Jpeg only so a bit limiting. That said it still takes better photos than any phone. Then I can put them through Snapseed to make basic adjustments and post. I'm on the lookout for a used bridge camera of older used Olympus for travel.

    Sun is lower in Autumn and Winter so pretty much any time of the day should be OK. In Summer you could bring along a body that has infrared conversion for those awkward times of the day when you least expect to get a great shot the IR might just save your bacon. Sometimes you need to think backwards with IR shots as the sun is better behind the subject for darker skies.

    Thanks for taking us along on your walk, some great shots. I do love the Lakes even though I only get there a few times per year. Up here in Scotland, Autumn has been about a month late, it is going to be into November before it peaks. As for Golden Hour, it is much overrated - I personally don't like it much, it feels unnatural, and everything has a yellow colour cast that isn't how the scene normally appears. The soft light is good but you can get that through most of the day in winter.

    Thanks Henry for another great video. Im not mobile enough nowadays to do a hike like this, so its really nice to come along on your outing.
    Ive noticed that all of the images you took on this one were, to my eye, not really true representations of the day. It’s like you’re shooting in the middle of the day and then trying, through processing, to look like golden hour. Darkening and over saturating.
    I think that’s a mistake because the scenes in the video were beautiful as they were.
    I agree with you that midday shooting can give some great results but trying to make the pics look like it wasn’t midday is a mistake in my eyes. Thanks again for letting me tag along and sorry if I sound like a grumpy old git. 👍

    Hi Henry. Been a subscriber of your channel for so long. I kind identify myself with you as I also like to be in the outdoors and photograph. I got myself a Z system which I've been building up but sometimes I find frustrating to go hiking and have to take my 2kg tripod along to take long exposures and I feel my motivation/creativity is affected. So my question is two questions in 1 and I'd appreciate if you have time to reply. Are you still happy with your move from the z7 to the om5? Or you'll keep both systems for the moment because of FF bigger sensor?

    Henry, your woodland photography is one of your major strengths as a photographer. You seem to see fantastic compositions better than most in that environment. One question, as the Olympus camera you have has built ND filtering capability, what would be the downside of just leaving an adjustable polarizer on your lens all the time?

    • @kqschwarz
      @kqschwarz 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The downside of just leaving a polarizer on the camera all the time would be the loss of at least a stop of light, which would be significant especially for Henry, as I don’t think the lens he is using is particularly fast. A polarizer also adds contrast, which is the primary reason for the device, but extra contrast might not be desirable for some scenes. It is for these two reasons I think most photographers only use a polarizer when indicated. It is also important to note that I don’t think Henry’s new camera has a built in ND filter. I believe the OM5 camera emulates the effect of an ND filter by using multiple exposures and combining them in camera. However, I am not 100% sure about the electronic ND filter thing, as I do not own an OM camera, so it is mostly speculation on my part.

    • @timothylabrecque8589
      @timothylabrecque8589 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct about the nd effect, multiple exposures are put together to create one file. Its a really nice feature that works well. In addition you can incorporate a real nd filter to be even more creative. Its a real game changer when it comes to staying light and mobile

    Not using a tripod is liberating, isn't it. Very nice photos and a lovely walk too.

    Hi Henry, when you say "You're not sure if there,s a shot there or not", why don't you take it anyway? You can always delete in computer.

    The main reason for not getting out in the middle of the day is the number of people that get in the way of your shot. I visited Slaters bridge a couple of years ago, and could not get a photo because of the children playing in the water. Accept they have a right to do so but it means that as landscape photographers we need to get out earlier or later in the day.

    🇨🇦/🇺🇸... Hey Henry... question: Do you (or have you ever) market your images and make them available for commercial use on any stock photo sites? You MAY prefer not to use your best images that you sell prints and calendars from, but I think that there are landscape photographers that do and make a pretty penny doing so. Cheers, bro!

    I must admit that going out any time of the day does not bother me, golden hour is a fantastic time of day, but it is not the be all and end all, as for the expectations of what I may have when going to a certain place, the cold truth is I have never had expectations, it is what it is when I get there
