Mister, I can't walk and spend my days in a wheelchair. Thanks for getting me out into the desert. I really enjoy hiking with you.... Keep on doing this. It's working for me!
All I can think of is this is definitely the aftermath of a LOT of water flooding the area and eventually dissipating. It totally looks like dried mud that gets occasional flash flooding. Reminds me a lot of a place called Kodachrome Canyon we went through almost 50 years ago. So beautiful and surreal!
The special strength of this video is that the idea of the hike is not to go from place A to place B, but the trip is based solely on how the landscape itself speaks to you. It is important that you try to tell the viewers what the landscape brings to your mind. So far, I haven't found anything similar. Thank you!

Very different from your past DD experiences that I have seen. I particularly like 14:40 thru 14:45 and 18:20 thru 19:00. I am in awe, and at a loss for words. Id be willing to bet, that you felt the same when you came upon these amazing Earth Sites. Those balancing rocks are wild and if we didn't know different, you would think this was CGI or AI images, but seeing them as actually real landscape is mind blowing. @10:57 - I think this bit demonstrates why we like this channel and other similar TH-cam content over big productions. You were honest about the owl leading you nowhere, whereas a cable show would’ve edited things to make it look like it led you to some big find. As many others have said, I feel like I’m with you on the hike, as opposed to watching some overproduced TV show.
What a spot! I appreciate that you include the camp and cook! Nice reality check on your two gallon water bag! That weighs more than my entire backpacking setup. That environment is no joke! Thanks for taking us along!
Hiking in extreme areas really helps me understand what our ancestors faced as they attempted to survive in new environments. Imagine you’re walking through this area and you’re like “okay I need to boil some drinking water.” But, no wood. Also no water. 💀
That is a truly terrifying level of catastrophe, the entombed petrified log, brings it home. A river of hot mud. Weird that it is also quite beautiful, sculptural, natures art. It is incredible also that the first broken up petrified log had lichens and actual plants able to source ancient minerals for life. The plants must use dew for a water source. Thank you so much for showing us this.

The presence of the petrified logs indicates that there was once a forest and water in that area - how amazing! I love your adventures - thank you for going where others cannot, or would not, go!
Pretty amazing to try picturing what this land must have looked like in ancient times. With trees of the size to leave petrified trunks, and the different types of soils... it must have been a wet-forestland of massive trees and running rivers at one time. Thanks for the adventure.
You were in a “lahar” (volcanic mud flow) thats why the trees are petrified. Encased in volcanic ash a million years ago. Very soft, erodes quicker than anything else.
Thanks for that information. I got reamed by some guy that claimed a 2 yr old would know that limestone sees no volcanic activity. It was so hostile I quit watching but I did a lot of reading and found "no volcanic activity in the southwest limestone terrain" to be inaccurate. Lots of volcanic activity to this day. Fascinating. I had the opportunity to see some of it 1st hand. 😊
What an insane landscape. Pondering some of those structures, really amazing. The petrified logs were at least worth the price of admission! Thanks for great footage in another crazy place!
About eight years ago, my younger brother traveled north and I traveled east and we met in a city near this place. We got up early and drove out there. Very impressive desert hike and exploration! Love the multiple layers of color, texture and formations. It is amazing what wind and water can do to sandstone layers.
It absolutely is. It's a huge grave yard. Remember from lion king,.. the Disney cartoon.. elephant grave yard. And this tells me that dinosaurs didn't roam millions of year etc ago. This is surface and exposed. And was insinterated. People are responsible for it. I can't wrap my head around what he just drifted to find on that size scale.. yet. But it's profound. @@rickc2102 it is a thing. But why is the thing on top of the ground? The excuse for lack of finding dinosaurs skeletons been because they are buried below or feets. And not all piled up and incinerated.
@@KisheaCrowl We dont need to tell you that you are coo-coo ca-chew. People are responsible for an area to be incinerated and buried in volcanic ash? A Disney cartoon brought you to this belief? Most of that was petrified wood thousands of years old that's turning to Stone? What a beautiful view of the night sky. So lucky to have that view out in the middle of nowhere with no light pollution at all.
How do you not get lost and you are able to find your way back to your car? If there are birds, shouldn't water be somewhere? Another question, how is the petrified wood cut so smoothly and perfectly in pieces? So much I am amazed by. Those sculptures up on the pedestals are mind boggling. Really cool video. Oh the stars .. WOW just WOW.
You can tell that it was a wetland because the logs are shattered crosswise and shed all their outer bark when they fell. The land looked so different during that time. Imagining it gives one a sense of _isekai._
I always feel so cheated when you spend days out there and we only get 10-20 minutes of video. This was an awesome place. It takes millions of years to turn a tree to stone. That tree was obviously manipulated at some point in time. There must have been a forest there once. I love your videos. Please make them longer?????😊

I’ve been to the Petrified Forest numerous times and you can clearly see that the are was once a large swampy region. You also can see rock formations and boulders/stone layered within the hills and in the washout areas. Would love to go to this area and and study the different sedimentary layers.
Seems like this may have been part of the great inland sea that was in much of the Southwest.
Could those formations be tufa?
Mister, I can't walk and spend my days in a wheelchair.
Thanks for getting me out into the desert.
I really enjoy hiking with you....
Keep on doing this. It's working for me!
My pleasure. Thanks for tagging along with me my friend
Bingo.
The great flood of Noah's day
@@chellec7702 The great fiction?
The special strength of this video is that the idea of the hike is not to go from place A to place B, but the trip is based solely on how the landscape itself speaks to you. It is important that you try to tell the viewers what the landscape brings to your mind. So far, I haven't found anything similar. Thank you!
For me the middle of nowhere is the start of adventure. And you my friend are truly an explorer. The places where man’s footsteps end are hard to find but always worth the journey. Be safe and happy travels.
Looks a lot like the Bisti Badlands of New Mexico. Spectacularly strange landscapes. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
That’s where I thought this was. Where’s this at?
This is the Bisti, in New Mexico, in the Four Corners area, south of Farmington.
Those landscapes are amazing
The southwest is a surreal landscape, no doubt about it. Thanks for watching!
Andrew, this was one of your best videos yet. I wasn't expecting that much, no ruins or steep canyons, but the petrified logs and hoodoos were amazing. The starry night images were great and your choice of music added so much. Loved it!
Thank you for not defacing, destroying, or removing any of that natural wonder. Its best to let it be for future explorers and onlookers!
Proof the desert was once a rain forest. Incredible video. You are amazing. Thank you
You're actually right (or very close).
When these trees were alive the area was a vast swampland.
@@-oiiio-3993 They weren't actually trees, they were giant horse tail
@@PendeltonWhiskey Are you sure it was the tail?
@@-oiiio-3993 yep, don't get excited, horsetail is just a weed that's been around for millions of years
@@PendeltonWhiskey Indeed it has.
DD Ive been following you for a good long while now. I live in Flagstaff AZ, and Im somewhat familiar with what you are exploring, but NOBODY does it a justice as you do. Man, this is one of your best. Although I have to confess that I seem to say that about every one of your episodes! But this one was very compelling and exciting for me. Very different from your past DD experiences that I have seen. I particularly like 14:40 thru 14:45 and 18:20 thru 19:00. I am in awe, and at a loss for words. Id be willing to bet, that you felt the same when you came upon these amazing Earth Sites. And then you add another unique and compelling wonderous experience - to sleep among this incredible environment! That part of your episodes is really COOL! It must feel like something magic, and VERY special. Ive already said too much, so Ill close. But DD.... dont stop what you are doing. You are giving us a brilliant, educated look into an area of our United States Country that most of us could never have even imagined exists. You sir, are expanding our minds to another level! Id like to say a sincere thank you!
Yep u lucky to live in the middle o amazing sw , I can remember falling off a big land bridge and the hight was not safe, actually my oldest brother pushed me off a forty ft Arch hahaha, thought I was gonna b hurt bad or dead at that moment but seems I fell just right the Sand was pilled up in spot I hit back first, completely sunken under sand um thinking I don't even have a scratch, and really bo sand in my eyes or ears that was terrible Luke you think it would b , really should b greatful the LORD maybe arranged that to not kill me ,that was well over 50 yrs ago and I'm only 57 ,that brother did me alotta wrong through the years but he's not getting getting up anymore he got his just dessert I guess, but it's a suspicious suicide that looks like a murderer or whatever reason he was said to b found dead, but I checked that area a few times over few days period, but when his son in law comes to say he gonna look around he's telling me he sees the body with face blown off with shotgun, idk ,u would've seen that and or any evidence while looking before and after, think the planted the body earlier and convenient they found him where I know he wasn't before! Rip billy really started doing better then getting a shotgun death don't seem like something he can do , but he was responsible for a native guys death by 22 caliber rifle in the 90s , never really know what really happened, but he was only in prison for a couple yrs, yep life is cheap, yep the eastern US is Great wilderness areas also but it's always getting more dangerous

You have become my favorite desert, ancient history, Google maps channel. I discovered the track planner last year and then you. I also enjoy watching the POV channel. However you have the best perspective, timing and wisdom shared in your videos. Thank you so much for taking us along on these awesome adventures. 👁️🙏👁️
I grew up in Provo Utah but I've spent the past 18 years in Austin Texas. Planning on returning to Utah this summer in an RV. I would love to meet up with you and go on an adventure. 🤠👍🔔
Thank you very much, that means a lot. Really honored and humbled so many people join me for my ramblings in the desert 🏜️

Your astrophotography at night is that of an artist. The unique photography of these sand formations awesome with their varied shapes ,where one’s imagination can go wild, and of course the beauty of the petrified tree trunks. I am sure that they would have a story to tell if they could. Your photography and your descriptions are truly an inspiration. Thank you!
The most expressive earth and rock I have seen in a long time. It’s beautiful.
I so look forward to watching your videos that I find myself checking for new content from you every day. Your demeanor and personality, and your willingness and determination, set you apart from the others! Thank you for your work and for sharing it in such a great manner!
Yes, me too!
With ya.
My thoughts are that (1) music is unnecessary. And (2) while it didn’t detract for me, neither did it contribute. Others may differ.

The odd shaped stone forms are somewhat reminiscent of the Maury on Easter Island. Ancient Giants staring into the distant view, blindly.

@@jackvoss5841 I think that the music has been edited perfectly for the videos, nice and light in the intro and drone footage, and completely absent when speaking. It’s never overwhelming
You show us such landscapes and formations, one would never see. Beautiful
The sandstone columns at the beginning of this video are amazing. Thank you for filming them. They are beautiful but sadly won’t be standing forever. The large 1 has eroded terribly. This is a beautiful place and holds much history and secrets I’m sure
By far, the best of all TH-cam.......without a doubt!
The sound bites you've selected are so fitting.
I could go on and on forever and never be able to say enough about you and your adventures!
I just didn't want it to ever end! LLL
God bless you my friend........and thank you!
Thank you my friend
Thank you for allowing others to live this experience through you. As a man of almost 65, it makes me wish that I had known about these places when I was a younger man. Keep the videos coming!!
When you look at the formations you know they are natural but at the same time you know they are by design and deep down you know who the artist is
Yes, the wind and eruption.
This has to be your best Cinemascope video I have seen. The picture quality and visuals are stunning. Those balancing rocks are wild and if we didn't know different, you would think this was CGI or AI images, but seeing them as actually real landscape is mind blowing. Thank you so much for sharing some amazing footage
What a great hike. Its like you were on another planet. Absolutely beautiful. What unique terrain. I was sorry for the video to end.😢 Thanks! ♥️
I am 70 years old and I am mesmerized by your videos… Lately i have nothing that makes me happy cause I’m bored 100% of the time…bored and depressed cause nothing interests me anymore. Amazing! The alien-looking landscape, the beatifull petrified wood, and the heart-stopping night sky all simply took my breath away. Thank you!
The stars were hard to beat. Thankfully I had a moon that didn’t rise until late into the night
i have tears in my eyes those scenes are breathtaking, the petrified trees just magnificent, the blues and pinks in that morning glow just spectacular
It's like a museum full of sculptures.
The presence of the petrified logs indicates that there was once a forest and water in that area - how amazing! I love your adventures - thank you for going where others cannot, or would not, go!
What an amazing landscape those night time photographs with the rock formations and the stars were so captivating.
Andrew, you are the reason I look forward to Saturday every week! I've come to love your videos - you never disappoint 💕
Pretty amazing to try picturing what this land must have looked like in ancient times. With trees of the size to leave petrified trunks, and the different types of soils... it must have been a wet-forestland of massive trees and running rivers at one time. Thanks for the adventure.
What really gets me is the petrified logs you came across. They look like they were cut with a saw rather then a natural fall from splitting.
That is how they break as underlying soils erode away.
I thought the same.
@@AncientOneFamily. Arrrgh.
Or perhaps our mainstream history and explanations of the past are complete LIES && we used to have high technology ...
Yeah it looks like an ancient giant cut the tree down and then forgot about it cause they were dumb and that’s why they are extinct now
You were in a “lahar” (volcanic mud flow) thats why the trees are petrified. Encased in volcanic ash a million years ago. Very soft, erodes quicker than anything else.
Thank you, Pete. 👍🏼
Awesome thanks!
It's doesn't spew Ash though.... Ash occurs in lava.
@@itsme_shanti it’s called a pyroclastic flow consisting of solid lava pieces, ash, mud, and gases
The landscape is so surreal and amazingly BEAUTUFUL! Thank you so much for sharing. Loved the Astro photography.
What an insane landscape. Pondering some of those structures, really amazing. The petrified logs were at least worth the price of admission! Thanks for great footage in another crazy place!
About eight years ago, my younger brother traveled north and I traveled east and we met in a city near this place. We got up early and drove out there. We hiked and photographed all day long, getting back to the truck just at sunset and didn't see enough of the area. It's an incredible place. Nice video work and it brought back a lot of great memories. Thanks.
Love this place. There's apparently an old Chacoan road that runs through those badlands, leading from Chaco Canyon to the pueblo at Aztec Ruins. Next time you head out there keep an eye out for bones! You can find dinosaur bones in the soft mudstones
I enjoy your content so very much! I'm an art teacher and our Janitor raves about your channel. He's a super outdoor kinda guy. He said I would love the petroglyphs and now I can't get enough. Been sick this week and your videos have brought so much joy! Thank you! Also to my school Janitor for being so cool!

This place is awesome. I love crazy rock formations and for you to see these petrified trees must have been quite an experience.
At the 16:20 mark you would almost expect Fred Flintstone to walk out screaming Yabba Dabba Doo lol

I was looking around for Fred and Betty, but never saw them
Very impressive desert hike and exploration! Love the multiple layers of color, texture and formations. It is amazing what wind and water can do to sandstone layers.
That plant life was pretty cool also! Thanks for sharing!
Yes, so many pastel colors out there in that landscape
Thanks!
That rock at 4ish minutes looked like part of a backbone. So interesting to see.
Or a seriously big turd from a humongous dinosaur!
Tell me I'm coo-coo ca-chew and way off because I'd think exposing their timelines, by someone not bought off and paid to say whatever fits into their agenda and control of content and corruption.
remember kids, if it looks like a thing then it must be the thing
sheesh
@@rickc2102 it is a thing. But why is the thing on top of the ground? The excuse for lack of finding dinosaurs skeletons been because they are buried below or feets. And not all piled up and incinerated.
@@KisheaCrowl We dont need to tell you that you are coo-coo ca-chew. People are responsible for an area to be incinerated and buried in volcanic ash? A Disney cartoon brought you to this belief? Out of all the videos I have watched through your lens or someone else's I have never seen a landscape like this! Stunning stills of the night sky! It looked like some of that wood has agatized! The colors are just incredible. Raven... good omen connected to wisdom, balance and transformation. Can't wait for the next one! Thanks again Andrew.
Most of that was petrified wood thousands of years old that's turning to Stone? What a beautiful view of the night sky. So lucky to have that view out in the middle of nowhere with no light pollution at all.
More like millions of years!
You do an incredibly fabulous job with your videos. I applaud your connection to the region. It shows in everything you do.
You are building an incredible porfolio of geologic wonder. many thanks
These videos bring such a lot of comfort to people who are struggling with illness.thank you .
I find it amazing that those petrified logs look like somebody has sawed them into blocks.
Please make them longer?????😊
thanks for panning slowly and getting scale. Fascinating to think about how these formations came about. e.g. the dirt below the long petrified log. Please keep up the adventures!
