I have just bought an OM5 mainly because of the smaller grip. After hand surgery in 2020, my right thumb doesn’t have the dexterity for the larger grip of the G9 or G80. Best part of the OM 5 for me is I don’t have to reinvest in lenses as the Panasonic lenses fit! Bonus was a spare battery in the package deal. Looking. Forward to getting out and getting used to the menus. Thanks Henry.
Henry, i just love it when a top man uses a NORMAL camera.. I'm now into photographing SMALL, given up on the big vistas. i get pictures anywhere in every lighting condition. So liberating.
I'm so sorry for only watching it now, but it has been a busy few days 😅 So beautiful with the snow! I have to admit, I loved the woodlands as well. But the mountains are beautiful as always, love the images you got!
A great "travel" video as usual, Henry. I have you to thank/blame for me buying an OM-5 myself! I already owned a Lumix gx80 so was used to the M4/3 system, but wanted a bit more control and the OM-5 fits the bill perfectly. I'm now trying to get hold of the same bag as you - I'm slowly turning into a Henry clone (although I do have a Z8 as my 2nd camera) !
Well done Henry another excellent video. My quick carry Camera is my Nikon D5300, I find it can fit most shots but more important for me is comes with GPS tagging so should I need to checkout or want to return, a quick captured image lets me pinpoint the location for the more meaningful photo-trip. Stay safe and keep up the great work.
Yeah, im still watching Henry. You are making me exhausted with all the walking. You hit the jackpot, Henry. A lot of beautiful shots, not to mention a great adventure. Well done good sir
Great video Henry, what awesome scenery but it looks treacherous. I slimmed down my choices in kits to Z7ii with few landscape lenses, and for walking a bit Z50 twin lens which is surprisingly good plus used OM1 with 12-40, 75-300 and a Pan/Leica 100-400 for birding which is so much lighter than the full frame alternatives. Keep making these great videos, somewhere I will never get to see.
Another fun little vid Henry! Thanks. I've still got my FM2 (Battle damaged long ago and needs major work) and my F3HP, getting a new LCD as I write this. That system now only has 3 lenses left: My venerable 55mm micro-nikkor, 22mm 2.8 and my 50mm 1.4. My Zed 7 has a quiver of lenses: My favorites in order, 24-70 f4, 14-30, and 24-200. My D850's and D800E converted for IR. LONG LIST OF LENSES! My favorite 3 are the 24-70 2.8 non-VR, 105mm micro-nikkor, and 200-500mm 5.6. I always thought my travel camera would be the Zed and the 24-200 or the D850 with my 24-85mm! But, ALAS you scoundrel you! I watched your video when you had to repair your Zed 7 and you got the OM5. Your childish enthusiasm and hype kept me thinking how much fun it would be to try one. I finally purchased one at a great discount of 700 off for the OM5 and the very capable little "Kit-NOT-Kit" 12-45mm for free. Again, you bloody scoundrel, I LOVE my OM5!!! It is always in the car and half the time my other cameras and tripod(s) remain in the car safely packed away in my Mindshift 36L! I use all the cameras still but the OMG FIVE is too damn much fun to play with! Oh, and BTW, it is most certainly going to be my all-round travel camera if I'm only going away for 1-2 weeks and it's not a planned photography trip. More often unless I'm going overseas for a long period, I'll drive cross country for photography more than travel and I carry the entire kit in my 4WD Forerunner off-road! Overseas, unless I'm planning to stay for months and have lodging and a home base, I carry a much-abbreviated kit and tripod(s).
Since I mainly wanted a system to hike with but also be my main setup I bought the Fuji X-T3 with 16-80 and 70-300 lenses several years ago. It has proven to be the perfect kit for me. Not as small and light as your OM System but much smaller and lighter than my old Canon kit. So, no I don't have two systems but I do believe it has been a great compromise.
I use 3 systems: My EM1ii for "serious" work, my Lumix GX80 (both MFT) for travel and day hiking and my Lumix TZ100 1-inch compact for multi-day backpacking trips. For travel I take the GX80 with a 14-42 pancake and the 45-175 telezoom. I also pack the 9mm lenscap fisheye for really wide work and a 10mm extension tube for close-ups and a gorillapod, polarizer and 6 stop variable ND filter. It all fits in a bag about the same size as yours and covers pretty much everything I need.
I have the old Olympus E-M1 mark 2 as my main camera, and the even older Olympus E-PL1 for an everyday carry. Usually just use a 25mm manual focus Chinese lens or the Olympus 45mm 1.8 on the EDC. Surprisingly good images from that old 12mp camera. The E-M1 gets the OLYMPUS 12-100mm f4 Pro lens and the 100-400mm for wildlife.
I’m a Sony shooter , for the last couple months I’ve been learning about the OM system m4/3 rds especially keen watching your vids on this system I am going to take the plunge and order the OM 1 mk2 think it’s a great fit for me.
I brought my Lumix G9 with the 12-35mm , laowa 7.5 mm and Lumix 45-150mm lenses to Lanzarote in September and never used my traveling tripod As a matter of fact mostly used the 12-35 lens. The IBIS is fantastic on this camera
Hi Henry, thanks for a chilly grand day out. Some wonderful light ! ... As for Camera setups ... I'm in the cheap seats .. 1 x D3500. Would love something more elegant, but hard to justify spending more, when after all thats why I bought an interchangeable lens camera .. and watching the pennies is a preoccupation. Keep up the good work!
Since you asked 😄: Landscape/wildlife - Olympus OM-D E-M1 ii, 8-25mm pro, 14-150mm, 12-40mm pro & 75-300mm. Landscape: Nikon Z50, 12-28mm, 14-140mm. Travel: Fujifilm X-E3, Sigma 10-18mm, XF 18-55mm & XC 50-230mm. Everyday carry/City break: Lumix GX80, Lumix 12-60mm, Lumix 12-32mm, Olympus 9-18mm & Olympus 50-150mm. In most cases, I usually take 2 to 3 lenses out with me depending on circumstances. Don't judge me! 😂
Based on your videos it's clear to me the likes of the OM5 would very much suit might photography preferences - travelling light, tripod free etc. It's on my wish-list, one day maybe... if I win the lottery! 😁
Thanks Henry, I really enjoyed this video. Great shots. Photography is all about the journey, as they say, and I was fully immersed in yours. Living in Cornwall, Scotland’s a world away, but you’re a great advert for it…!
Don't forget, that 12-60 Pana Leica is darn near a Macro lens as well. 2-3 inches from the lens front as is. One small extension tube and you can focus 1/2 inch from the front of the lens. Love your enthusiasm, makes me want to head out and shoot right now.
Oh thank you for bringing back a lovely memory - my partner and I sat on that rock overlooking Loch Affric for lunch back in November 2019...such a beautiful spot. Our day was grey like yours, but not atmospheric, but just as we got back to the carpark the sky suddenly lit up for sunset. Thanks Henry, love the last image!
Thanks for this beautiful snowy walk and images, Henry! After several days of 30C+ temps, you’ve cooled me down! The OM-5 is a wonderful little camera, so versatile! I also have the EM1 mkiii, which I love, but the OM-5 is now the one I grab. After all, it’s the photographer that makes the image. I also have an old Sony a7ii and a Nikon D7500. Both sit on the shelf. Unfortunately, we don’t have MPB yet in Australia, so come on, MPB, open up a business here, please! Great vid, Henry!
Hi there 🙂, what's the difference for you between the OM 5 and the em1iii apart from looks? Because I always thought there was none. Or is it the look especially that sets it apart for you?
Hi Henry - looks a bit chilly! So I'm a M43 convert. G9ii as the big camera for wildlife - and a GX9 for hiking , trekking & street. Perfect as uses the same lenses & both are small.
Just got round to watching this one Henry. You’re making me homesick man 😂 Seriously though, another great video in another great location and again, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve just purchased your ebook triple pack, so I’m looking forward to getting stuck into that. Keep up the good work mate 🙏🙌
Nice one. I have 3 camera systems - Pentax 645z MF, Lumix S1r FF, Lumix G9 M43. They all have their advantages and disadvantages, they all provide great image quality for the images I use them for. Of the 3, I like using my G9 the best for handling and portability its the perfect little travel camera.
Great conditions! I use to have a G9 with Leica 8-18, 12-60, but switched to a D5600, 10-20 and 16-85, equivalent focal lengths, but more compact and lighter also, much cheaper to get additional F mount lenses as well. Also have a D700 which is far from travel friendly, but the pictures from it have a very pleasing look.
Hi Henry, a great video, buddy! Oh yes, that happens quite quickly to lose some smaller parts like lens caps, lens hoods, memory cards, etc. Especially when we are recording b-rolls and jumping around in the landscape 😊 I tend to lose these IR controls, that is crazy. 4-5 a year, or so 😆 I think to remember that I watched one of your videos some years ago where you lost your memory card or so, but you found it again in the end. But yeah, I think these are things we have to calculate with 😊 Thank you for the video and nice greetings, Christian
Thanks for sharing another great video Henry! I've got 3 setups now, Panasonic G100 and Leica 12-60mm for business trips and every day, Nikon D7500 with 18-140mm and 70-300mm for longer trips without my car and then I've got some bigger, heavier f1.8 and super-telephoto lenses for the D7500 when I'm away with the car. I tried the compact camera with a 1in sensor for travel but just didn't like the drop in quality. Micro 4/3 is a good compromise.
I almost backed out viewing the video. But followed your example and perservered. The back half of your adventure was way worth the wait! You got your images and then some Henry! The reward for me was seeing another great video showcasing wonderous scenery and great photos. BTW I'm always loosing lens caps. ;) My strategy is buy extras in bulk. :) Thanks for your efforts man. Keep up the good work.
I use Canon R6 & R6 mk2 for music, nighttime, circus and general photography. But i have purchased a Sony a6700 for its size, portability and focus system for street, travel and when i want to go lightweight. It can also take some of my Canon lenses so it’s a win win.
I enjoyed the video as usual Henry. Great conditions for photography. Did you find your lens cap? Great image's as usual mate. Look forward to the next one. I will be in Scotland in February and hope there is a good covering of snow on the mountains as I'm sure there will be. Look forward to the next one mate.
I use a nikon z8 and olympus em1x, love olympus and panasonic for computational photography, I'm into macro and light painting etc and for that micro four thirds is unbeatable 👍
Hi Henry, my main camera is an Oly EM5 from 2012, with the Pana-Leica 12-60mm lens. I have a 2nd body (also EM5) with its 14-42mm kit lens. Surprisingly good for landscape photography, and the files can be pulled quite a bit in post, so all good!
Wow. Fantastic conditions and images there Henry. Must have been a great day out with the camera. I’ve just purchased a Sony A6700 APS-C camera as a second camera as I want something lighter weight for longer hikes and travel photography. Early impressions look very promising and the weight and space saving is excellent. Looking forward to putting it through its paces soon to see how it compares to my full frame camera over a longer period of time
Another great vid Henry. Thanks. I currently use Sony full frame with decent glass plus lots of excellent vintage lenses. And I use Pentax crop sensor with some good glass. Horses for courses of course but I would hate to be pinned down as to which is better image quality wise. Ignore the snobbery. I actually seem to use the Pentax as much as the Sony. Happy with both. I am toying with micro 4/3 in the future for cycle trips and the like. Keep em coming buddy.
Kinda interesting you mention the low-light advantage your Nikon has... which to some degree is true. However, given you can shoot wider open with the OLY' for the same DOF (all else being equal) one could argue you don't need to climb the iso as high- somewhat negating the Nikon advantage in that regard.
Uriah! It's been 30 years since I lived in cold country and my feet got cold just watching the wet snow on the road. Every fall and early winter the body has to adjust. Come late winter spring that is light jacket and a sweater weather. LOL
Definitely was still watching! I was wondering (I don't know how much extra editing effort this would be): whenever you mention a name of a loch or a hill, could you also put name in text on the screen? Because the automatic captioning never gets it right. 😅And as a non-native English listener, it's sometimes hard to figure what place you're talking about.
Looks like you covered a fair bit of ground today Henry and was good to see you get a return for that effort. Loved the images, especially the final 3 and im sure ut wint be long till you're back bsck up over the border with the Blue Jay
It's interesting listening to you Henry. I have the Pano G9ii but am always extremely disappointed by the amount of noise visible. Especially on the background of close ups and in the sky. I use Lightroom denoise but all that does is soften the edges. Does the OM perform well without discernable noise. Thanks for reading x
Ohhhh it's so frustrating losing even the tiniest of bits of equipment.....lens caps and hoods included. I almost feel like setting up a search party to head out and find it!!
I have an OM5 and I’ve just bought an Olympus 9mm Fish Eye Body Cap lens from Amazon Black Friday deals for £45, with the idea of making the camera even more portable. I’m now scared to use it in case I’m really disappointed with the results. Haven’t even tried it yet. I suppose you get what you pay for. 🤔. We'll see.
If I were there I would be stopping for a photo every 30 seconds and walk out of there with 1,000 or more taken. I live in boring, flat, Florida. Other than beach and sunset pictures it is a struggle to find anything. Ever thought of painting your lens caps florescent orange?
@@HenryTurnerphoto Thats great, love watching your video adventures. I am a press photographer and have been for many many years. Never get out and about much just work work work in the cities etc.
Nice to hear more about the OM5, have been wanting to replace some of my kit with something in that territory. Also very envious of your highlands adventures! 🫠❄️ I have numerous kits, some I’ve inherited, biggest one is an old but still very serviceable D750 along with a full lens kit from Macro to 800mm that was my dads for his favourite pastime of bird watching, the big lenses haven’t had that much use recently but their amazing when the time comes. I mostly use the 105mm prime lens on that, or the 28-120mm (I think!) Have a D5500 with a few lenses which has been my stand in for something like the OM5 for many years but looking to replace it. Load of other random older cameras, Rollies and digital that I really need to cull! Over the last couple of years though, largely due to some health issues that have encouraged light packing, I’ve compromised with my iPhone 14pro and a couple of lenses thanks to being able to fit the main kit in a couple of pockets or small bumbag! Mostly use an 1.33 anamorphic or a wee macro lens besides the native options. Optional ND and mist filters that I’ve used for some holiday events. Have a gimbal and sometimes take a mono or tripod but the whole kit exc the phone and pods (already had) was under £300 which is a perk. Use this mostly just for the enjoyment of taking a quick photo rather than the end result hence wanting a smaller camera kit that doesn’t weigh 7kg! 😅
So glad to hear someone talking MF3. And addressing its benefits.
When you asked, are you still watching? I definitely was! Another great video Henry, thanks again! Cheers!
I just additionally take a photo on my phone for the geotagging info.
The snow covered ferns are calling to you! Just a bloke walking down the road talking to himself. 😊. You’re hilarious! Love it! Beautiful images!
I put my lens cap in my pocket so I quit loosing them. Thanks for sharing your trek with us. I was happy to stay warm and enjoy nature with you.
Another fun little vid Henry! Thanks. I've still got my FM2 (Battle damaged long ago and needs major work) and my F3HP, getting a new LCD as I write this. Hope you enjoy it!

What a splendid place. And the light behind the mountain was amazing. Nice photos Henry, i enjoyed the video.
Since you asked 😄:
Landscape/wildlife - Olympus OM-D E-M1 ii, 8-25mm pro, 14-150mm, 12-40mm pro & 75-300mm.
EM 5 III here. Absolutely love it for travel. OM 5 for me as well when I hit that lottery.

Class video as always mate, I'm using the original 4/3rds system and micro 4/3rds and love both systems 👌
Thanks for sharing another great video Henry! First rule of trekking: always tuck ur trous into ur socks! Keeps out the ticks in summer & the nasties in winter Ur enthusiasm is great! 👍

Beautiful location, You did it justice again. great video and photography.
Winter wonderland indeed- great video as always Henry

Great video Henry stunning location again, all your photos were amazing especially the last one 😍
Best combo om5 with 8-25 f4mm is my nain canera and i love it.nice vedio
Nice 👍
Determination 😋 Great video !
Great stuff as always. "I hope you lot are still watching" - brilliant 😂
OM 1 is amazing with any of the 2.8 pro lenses 👌
Glad I stayed to the end of the video,😊 some beautiful images, especially the last one,
Definitely seems like a good camera
Thanks 👍
Glen Affric is a wonderful place. great images and video Henry thanks
Looks like you covered a fair bit of ground today Henry and was good to see you get a return for that effort. Loved the images, especially the final 3 and im sure ut wint be long till you're back bsck up over the border with the Blue Jay
What a cracking picture right at the end
Thanks mate!
Have you found your lens cap yet 😉. Nice views especially at the end and nice pics.
Fujjifilm and a few lenses, and an old Nikon D700 and 105 macro lens for me 🙂
It's interesting listening to you Henry.
Hi Henry. Happy Thanksgiving!
Same to you!
Any reason why you don’t use a polariser on the OM ? I’m going to get the 12-60 because it looks like a great addition 👍🏻
🤔. We'll see.
What do you use for filming your videos please Henry?
Hi mate, I use the DJI Action 4 👍🏻
Sony A7RIV | Sony 16-35 f2.8 GM | Sigma 60-600 f4.5-6.3 DG Sports.
I wish theres snow where i live
If I were there I would be stopping for a photo every 30 seconds and walk out of there with 1,000 or more taken. I live in boring, flat, Florida. Other than beach and sunset pictures it is a struggle to find anything. Ever thought of painting your lens caps florescent orange?
Hey Henry did you find the lens cap?
Hi mate! I did not :(. But I have a new one now already 👍🏻
@@HenryTurnerphoto Thats great, love watching your video adventures. I am a press photographer and have been for many many years. Never get out and about much just work work work in the cities etc.
With a gfx100 you could have pixel peeped until you found it 😅
Great , i have been after that pack for months STILL Not available !!!!
Beard is coming on mate
👍📷😎
Hope someone's still watching. 😂 Always watch to the end of decent content. 👍
Easy to drop a lens cap when you're wearing gloves and your hands are cold.
Pants into my socks…omg your a Brit man
Yeah I've had stick for that my whole life. Where I come from in England, they are pants, not trousers 👍🏻😁
I think you should buy your lens caps in bulk, Henry. ;-)
Lots of ghosting? Surely your needs lens hood into the sun…
Cheers Henry, it’s Sean from Atlanta! I need your advice ASAP. How would you like me to message you?
Thanks!
Hi Sean, feel free to email me at henry@henryturnerphotography.co.uk
Nice to hear more about the OM5, have been wanting to replace some of my kit with something in that territory. Also very envious of your highlands adventures! 🫠❄️
I have numerous kits, some I’ve inherited, biggest one is an old but still very serviceable D750 along with a full lens kit from Macro to 800mm that was my dads for his favourite pastime of bird watching, the big lenses haven’t had that much use recently but their amazing when the time comes.
I mostly use the 105mm prime lens on that, or the 28-120mm (I think!)
Have a D5500 with a few lenses which has been my stand in for something like the OM5 for many years but looking to replace it.
