What a god-send you are! I've been watching this video and the one for the boxed cushions to figure out how to make my futon mattress cover. I had a general idea, but hadn't sewn for over 15 years.. so I needed a good brush-up. Thank you so very much for making these videos! You make sewing look easy. I've taken notes! :)
+Breadoven Baker Sorry to hear about your chemo, I hope and pray that it goes well. Thanks for you positive comment and I hope your patio umbrella comes out well.
What a great , amazing , and hard work, thanks! We should cherish what we had have, not excessive spending, not wasting sources, and not polluting environment.
Remaking the deck cushions this spring, and will be using this tutorial, thank you! I’d planned to use cording, but I really like how the mattress edge looks! Makes the project much quicker, too! Thank you!
+Naturally Entitled It is a pleasure to supply instructional videos to our customers and other future customers of Sailrite! Thanks for you positive comments!!!
well worked and well explained congratulations, congratulations on the video I loved, I've shared with more people on facebook and google, I found it interesting, you can learn a lot with this video thanks for upload.
Sailrite Actually, I do have a question! With the pieces for the boxing the same lengths as the sides of the seat, when I sewed the 4 boxing pieces together at 3/8ths inch, they were too short to attach perfectly to the seat, so I had to crimp in a few wrinkles on each side of the seat to get it to meet at the corners. Should I have cut each boxing piece 6/8ths of an inch longer than the seat piece?
nicole .dominix If the boxing is the same length as the plates (top and bottom) and a 3/8" seam was performed to join the boxing together it (boxing sides) will be slightly shorter than the plates. However, when the boxing is sewn to the plate using a 3/8" seam that should shorten the plate size to equal the length of the boxing on each side. So, no the boxing should not need to be longer.

thanks for sharing your skills, very interesting and educational video, I do not have a sewing machine, and do not know how to set up and use one, can you please do a video on how to use sewing machine, and can you point out the parts and name of parts, and whats the use, please? thank you.
What would this type of seam look like with cording also included? I am remaking cushions for a rocking chair, and don't want a zip closing. Top stitching the edges seemed like the best solution, but my customer really wanted a contrast cording on the top edge.
it's kind of an either/or situation. Either cording or this top stitching. If the customer wants contracting cording, you're kind of committed to welting. I would always do a zip closing, it's too limiting not to offer a zipper in case the foam compresses over time. I'm still adding a zipper even with this type of cushion, especially because I'm using foam and don't want to have to wrestle to sew the last section closed.
I have antique Woodard furniture similar but not the same as the one in your other video. It is curved, can this technique be used for a curved cushion with only the curve on the part that fits into the furniture
Tammy, 3/8" (what we used in the video) or a 1/2" seam allowance will not make much difference in the finished results of the cushion cover. It will be slightly tighter, but should still work great even if you cut the plates and boxing as directed in the video.
Thanks for the video. I made the foam version last night, but I can't, for the life of me, close up the seam after inserting the foam. Even with pins (and at one point, vice clamps), I can't get it squished down enough to get it into my machine. Save hand-sewing, any other suggestions? TIA
I'd like to redo some foam cushions on two vintage Ethan Allen oversized wooden rockers I have- the back cushions are rounded at the top- can I still use this technique? Thanks!
JVSak Yes, it should still work, just incorporate the rounded section into your plates and be sure to cut a boxing strip that is long enough to cover the rounded side.

What are the differences between fiber fill and foam? Is one firmer? Does one last longer?
I have antique Woodard furniture similar but not the same as the one in your other video. It is curved, can this technique be used for a curved cushion with only the curve on the part that fits into the furniture
Yes, this technique should work with a cushion that includes a curve.
What would be the total addition if you wanted to have a 1/2 seam allowance? Awesome video! Thanks for posting.

How do you get the foam slab inside?

Wooww I like it
What is the best type of presser foot to use in sewing an indoor/outdoor fabric since it can be slightly slippery? Thanks
Well, if you have a walking foot sewing machine, that is what we recommend, but if not just use a standard presser foot with a standard feed dog.
Great tutorial! Thanks :)
You are welcome!
Perfeito 👏👏👏
YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!
Thanks!
