Someone FINALLY reacting to Police Story (and hopefully all of them). You really are watching some of the best movies for reactions and just in general some great movies that everyone should watch at least once. You rock.
1 of Jackie Chan's greatest movies from his absolute peak. Another from this era that you may enjoy is Armour of God, which I personally think of as the ultimate of all his films
Drunken Master 2 is one of the best but most of the films he made for about three decades were awesome. The films he made with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao were always really funny like Project A and Dragons Forever.
Jackie Chan actually does about 85% of his own stunts. For example, among many things, If you ever see Jackie throw a fancy kick with his left leg then it was a double.
That's also not Jackie on the motorcycle crashing that guy through the glass cabinets. For that bit he was doubled by someone called Blackie Ko, who was among the most renowned motor vehicle stunt choreographers in Asia, as well as being a stuntman himself. Sadly Ko died aged just 50 from blood poisoning in 2003.
My favorite Jackie Chan movie is Dragons Forever from 1988. I highly recommend that one. Great fight scenes but also one of the funniest, too. Really, you can't go wrong with Jackie Chan. Even his more serious action movie The Foreigner from 2017 is great (even made my father shed a tear (if you know, you know)).
Dragons Forever and Wheels on Meals are seemingly some of his most obscure and least watched when it comes to Western audiences but they're top tier, I guess those were made before a lot of his films got distribution overseas in those days. I didn't see either until the 2000s when I was finally able to get my hands on them through torrents😅
i am SO SO happy you're givng this series a chance. police story 3 (Supercop) with michelle yeoh is my personal favorite; it's great stand alone but i love that you're starting from the beginning. jackie always EARNS your entertainment (hardest working man in showbiz)
Wow, this is an unexpected surprise. Definitely on the list of great 80’s action films and always makes me a bit nostalgic for the time I spent in HK as a kid
@@RegulusBlack-w4s I am a huge fan of Hong Kong and Chinese cinema. I am soon to go to China for the first time in March, travelling from Beijing to Hong Kong over 19 days. Your comment caught my eye, obviously since the change over there has been major disruption, to put it kindly. But, what do you mean by whitewashed compared to the old Hong Kong, I'm just being curious.
@Soulspinner001 total loss of culture, they're either Kpop wannabes or bending over for westerners. You'll see white privilege in action there, it's real and they're milking it. Having said that, you're there for a short time...enjoy your stay, it's not all that bad!
This was one of the first Asian films I rented as a teen that opened my mind to a much larger world of cinema. It is still just as amazing to watch today as it was all those decades ago, a true classic.
_Police Story_ influenced Hollywood movies in quite a few ways. That scene in which people drive through the shantytown "influenced" a very similar-looking scene in _Bad Boys 2,_ the 1989 film _Tango and Cash_ copied a specific part of the bus sequence and the Brandon Lee-starring film _Rapid Fire_ borrows some elements from this and some other Jackie-starring films (in particular the motorcycle sequence).
Incredible martial arts choreography and stunts, obviously. I love all the scenes with May. The actress that plays May is hilarious! I love the shot when she loses control of her motorbike but is still holding on to the handlebars and then drives of screaming "I hate you!" 😂.
I so, so hope you give New Police Story (2004) a shot, it's an amazing underrated gem and really shows off Jackie's acting talent, on top of his choreography. It works as a stand-alone film as well, so you can absolutely jump right into it without worrying about watch order. There's also a Lego fight!
I love almost all his movies especially before he did movies in the US, police story 2 is a must. I also loved: First Strike, Rumble in the Bronx, Heart of Dragon (pretty sad), Who am I, Armour of God parts 1 and 2 Oh and DEFINITELY the Druken Master and Legend of the Druken Master are 2 of my favorites.
Police Story movies from best to worst in my opinion: 1. Police Story 2. New Police Story (2004) 3. Police Story 2 4. Police Story 3 Supercop (make sure to watch the Hong Kong version if you can and not the butchered U.S version) 5. Police Story 4: First Strike (again, Hong Kong version is superior but really hard to come by) 5. Project S/ Supercop 2 (starring Michelle Yeoh reprising her role from Supercop with Jackie Chan guest starring) 6. Police Story 2013/ Police Story: Lockdown Other supposedly related Police Story movies: - Crime Story (Jackie won best actor at the Golden Horse Awards with the movie winning multiple awards as well) - Bleeding Steel (terrible movie, avoid it at all cost)
I love how youtube algorithm gives me channels I should definitely subscribe to. No one ever reviews these kinds of good movies. For some reason, such content is considered rare.
Nice reaction ! If you want to see more of real oldschool badass Jackie Chan , you absolutely need to watch Armour of God and its sequel. Everything is there, very good fights, stunts (one of the stunts Jackie did in this film almost cost him his life, he got serious head trauma and almost died) also there is one big car chase with few very cool and dangerous car stunts. Absolute gem of a movie, one of his best if not the best film !
This has likely been mentioned in the comments, but the scene where the bus comes to a stop and the henchmen flies out the front windows was actually a failed take. The stuntmen were supposed to land on the padded car but instead hit the pavement directly, resulting in injuries. Jackie kept the take going, walked around the side of the bus, then cut, and they ended up using the NG (No Good) take in the final film.
This film series is great..ill recommend to watch them all..everybodys talking about the how good police story 1,2 and 3..but the most underrated of the series that nobody talks about is the 5th one or the New Police story 2004..its insanely great action movie.
You just got a subscriber. A lot of reactors are sleeping on 80's and 90's Hong Kong action movie. You should also try watching Drive 1997 as well. No one has reacted to that movie. Wheels On Meals is also another one to check out.
Danny Chu is played by one of the most fan-loved villain actors of Hong Kong cinema of this era: Fung Hak-On. He starred in a lot of movies with Jackie's "biggest brother" from his Peking Opera days (Sammo Hung) and his distinctive look not only suited him well to playing villainous roles, but also made him instantly recognisable to fans of this kind of action. He was even in _Ip Man 2_ (2010) as a master who challenged Donnie Yen's character. Sadly he died from oesophageal cancer in 2016 aged 67, but his work on the screen lives on.
Diving into Jackie Chan? Get ready for a hell of a ride. Key thing to remember when watching his stunts - if you find yourself wondering how they did X insanity, the answer is "They just f***ing did it". Absolute lunatics, all of them :P
The perfect mixture of silliness and very serious has always been a fine line with Jackie’s films. I think he straddles that line well, especially in this movie, Project A and Dragons Forever, which is essentially a silly romantic comedy, that also has people being forcefully overdosed with heroin. Love Jackie’s movies, though. I don’t know if I’ve seen one I didn’t like.
"People got hurt" might be why the movie is as impactful as it is, because you can tell all the passion that goes into something when the actors put their own lives on the line to make sure the best experience gets captured on screen. That's just the extra spice in a lot of Jackie movies that you can't quite replicate with CGI. Please, please watch New Police Story (2004) it's my favourite one and it's just amazing!
Jackie and all the stunt guys in his old movies got what should be career ending injuries on the regular. Its not uncommon for them to go to the hospital and resume shooting 😅 Jackie even said it got to a point where insurance companies would blacklist him and his team. That scene with the huge drop with the pole and lights messed him up really bad. He got so many fractures, broke his pelvis and burned off the skin on his hands. Its really underappreciated what Jackie and these people did.
There used to be a restaurant in Doncaster, Melbourne Australia, called Jackie Chan's. It was legit owned by the man himself. Closed down years ago. It was pretty cool, going there for yum cha and half expecting to see Jackie spring out from the shadows to engage in combat.
Definitely worth checking out _Police Story II_ (1988) and _Police Story III: Supercop_ (1992) after this. As some others have said, it will be an added bonus if you can watch the original Hong Kong version and not the tweaked, truncated American version that is just called _Supercop._ Stanley Tong took over the directing reins for _Police Story III: Supercop_ because at the time Golden Harvest were concerned about how much money he had been spending on his movies, especially with 1991's _Armour of God II: Operation Condor_ taking eighteen months to finish and its costs spiralling out of control. Luckily Stanley Tong also had a stuntman background so Jackie didn't clash with him the way he had sometimes clashed with other directors who didn't share his vision for how the final film should be. Other films that Jackie starred in that lots of classic Hong Kong cinema fans mention include: _Snake in the Eagle's Shadow_ (1978), _Drunken Master_ (1978), _The Young Master_ (1980)$, _Dragon Lord_ (1982)$, _Project A_ (1983)$, _Wheels on Meals_ (1984) [yes, that really *is* the correct English title!], _Project A: Part II_ (1987)$, _Dragons Forever_ (1987), _Miracles_ (1989)$ [sometimes this is also known as _Miracles: The Canton Godfather_ or _Mr Canton and Lady Rose],_ _Armour of God_ (1986)$, _Armour of God II: Operation Condor_ (1991)$, _City Hunter_ (1992) and _Drunken Master II_ (1994). The entries marked with a dollar sign are ones that Jackie also directed. If you're interested in seeing Jackie do more serious, dramatic roles, then I recommend _Heart of the Dragon_ (1985) [sometimes _First Mission_ has been used as an alternative English title] and _Crime Story_ (1993). In the former he plays a former SWAT member who dreams of sailing around the world but is torn between that, his girlfriend and (especially) his older brother (played by the legendary Sammo Hung), the latter being an adult who has the mind of a five-/six-year-old due to a medical condition. In the latter, which is based on a true story, he plays a no-nonsense police inspector tasked with helping to find and rescue a kidnapped, successful local businessman. Both of these alone show that Jackie can be good as an actor without overly relying on his physical skills; in fact, he won a Golden Horse award for Best Actor for _Crime Story._
Love your reaction please do more of Jackie Cham, jet Lee and more like this movies thank you I’m waiting for you you reaction make my day❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jackie Chan burned the skin off his hands sliding down the pole at the end. The power was accidentally left on high for the lights instead of low power.
Some versions of _Police Story_ show Chan Ka-Kui's character being arrested at the end of the film. In some Asian markets at the time (particularly Malaysia and Singapore) it was a bit of a problem if a movie showed even the main character committing crime and getting away with it. To get around this, the ending would usually see that character either being arrested or killed. At that final freeze-frame just before the closing credits one version I saw (presumably before any of the sequels were even planned) showed on-screen text showing that Chan Ka-Kui got reprimanded for taking the law into his own hands.
Hope you do some more Hong Kong Jackie Chan, once you finish the Police Story franchise. My personal favourite is probably Armour of God 2, especially with the brilliantly inventive fight scene at the end.
She's done some even better performances in other movies. _In the Mood For Love_ (2000) alone is one that shows just what an incredible, versatile actress Maggie is.
Police Story movies are quintessential watching for people who want to get an idea of how much of a talented person Jackie is. He created, directed, produced and choreographed everything. By the time PS3 aka "Supercop" came out, Jackie had started making his movies for US distribution and his popularity had grown, folks started to know him in the mainstream.
In the case of _Police Story III: Supercop_ Jackie was not allowed to direct it because the preceding year costs spiralled out of control on _Armour of God II: Operation Condor_ and the whole production was a nightmare that took eighteen months to film. Golden Harvest wouldn't let Jackie direct for several years after that and told him that he could not spend that long on just one film anymore (I found this out from Frank Djeng's audio commentary on the 2020 Blu-Ray release of _AOG2:OC_ that Eureka! Entertainment brought out) so for _PS3:S_ Stanley Tong was appointed director. Luckily Stanley has a stuntman background so Jackie gelled well with him, whereas he was known to clash with other directors he had worked with (especially Robert Clouse, James Glickenhaus, Lo Wei and Wong Jing).
16:34: Is it set in Hong Kong? When this movie debuted, Hong Kong was still a British colony, so there would be snippets of English being spoken from folks there.
Omigod, please please PLEASE watch more 80o's Hong Kong Action cinema! Anything with Jackie chan, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao to start with! I smashed those subscribe and like buttons soooo hard!
As you know, no such movies nowadays, everything in that one is a practical effect. Now, it's CGI, CGI, CGI. Even the most recent Jackie Chan movie I watched called "Panda Plan", the panda is CGI.
HK cinema was awesome, I do miss it so. Hong Kong was a British territory. That’s why the judge and barristers in the courtroom have those wigs on, and why some English is mixed in here and there. Drunken Master is another great Chan film you should check out sometime. Look into Shaw Brothers films as well; maybe do a top ten search and check out one or two of the higher rated ones, they are quite beautiful. Pre-Hollywood John Woo films are something else not to miss: Hard Boiled, The Killer, A Better Tomorrow, Once A Theif, and Bullet In The Head are all very entertaining and wonderfully insane. The only thing more unbelievably violent than Hard Boiled would be a rabid werewolf, and like the over the top gun battles in the film, werewolves don’t exist in real life either, but hey, they both look great on the screen. Thanks for making videos eh.
After Supercop is First Strike 😉 Jackie's films are the only ones I prefer dubbed 😅 He's got a ton of great movies, but my faves are from his 'fighting around the world' era where he films in exotic locales - Who Am I, Operation Condor, and Supercop are some of his best
In the case of _Armour of God II: Operation Condor,_ Jackie decided to have a less-Asian focus compared to the first film, because the previous year saw Golden Harvest's major success with the 1990 live-action _Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles_ film so the pressure was on for a hit. Jackie casting three actresses to play three characters who essentially share the same brain was to appeal to three different markets: Carol "Do Do" Cheng for Chinese (and some other Asian) audiences, Shoko Ikeda for Japanese audiences and Eva Cobo de Garcia for Western audiences.
you should check out his hong kong back catalogue. There's a few videos as well going over his stunts and what went wrong. I thought it funny the way you reacted when the 2 guys flew out the top window of the bus. They were meant to breakfall on the roof of the car but the driver stopped early.
I hope that doesn't means you watched this reaction as a substitute 😅 Definitely give it a watch if that's the case. I personally don't ever watch reactions to films I haven't seen because you miss so much context and don't get a feel for the film's pacing amongst other things.
The only problems with that old English-dubbed version are that: (a) they changed almost all of the music [only the Jackie Chan-sung _Hero Story_ song that plays over the closing credits was left intact]; (b) the scene in which Chan is photographed for police promotional material is completely cut; (c) the telephone scene is almost entirely gone (only the telephone conversation between Chan and Snake Eyes [Tai Po] remained in that version, whereas all of the bits where Chan juggles with multiple telephones and calls is completely excised from that version); (d) the televised interview with Chan in Chu Tao's office (just after the courtroom scene) is entirely gone, with the exception of a freeze-frame of Chan that Chu turns to at the end of that scene.
The reason why they used wigs on the court and some English words is because hong Kong were colonized by the British but no longer since late 90's i think.btw hope you watch the rest of police story series and fun fact Jackie sang the main song in this movie too!
Highly recommend checking out 'Rumble in the bronx' & 'Drunken master'{classic jackie} as well as something newer like 'Railroad tigers' & 'The foreigner'. IF you find yourself taken with some the more martial arts side i'd recommend another classic like 'Method man', an intermidiate like 'Ong bak' & a modern one with an old school feel like 'Fist of the condor'.😉 If you want more comedy then 'Shoalin soccer' & 'Kung-fu Hustle'...... I'd also recommend 'District 13' 2004 {See a hansome looking frenchman also making it look easy.....Also the movie that introduced the world to 'Parkour'!} & 'Taxi' {franchise} 1998 made by luc besson {fifth element, leon}. Two Under- rated French action crime movies.😁 The unusual mix of language is probably to do with Hong-kong being british owned till the 90's..... P.s. 'Beast cops' 1998 is another great chinese movie! & 'The Wandering earth' is a stunning newer scifi!
Chrissie doing the films that SHOULD be done ! Well impressed girl ! For more brilliant foreign action cinema - John Woo (GOAT action director) - Hard Boiled and The Killer - Chow Yun Fat The Raid 1 & 2 - Gareth Evans wild Indonesian martial arts epics Elite Squad 1 & 2 - follows Rio's elite fighting police unit en Bopo in their actions against drug gangs in the wild and unregulated favela. ES 2 is a top five film of mine. Infernal Affairs trilogy - the first had The Departed based on it, but this is a trilogy. The second which is a prequel is a top 5 film of mine.
Jackie Chan doing all of his own stunts is a bit of a myth/white lie that he used to tell. It was good for marketing but you do see his team double for him here and there though he definitively does most of it most of the time.
Yes!!! Police Story 2 and 3 please!!!!!

Jackie sings the closing theme
jackie,my childhood hero
Love your reaction please do more of Jackie Cham, jet Lee and more like this movies thank you I’m waiting for you you reaction make my day❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jackie Chan burned the skin off his hands sliding down the pole at the end. The power was accidentally left on high for the lights instead of low power.
"People actually got hurt". Yes. Yes they did. A lot. 😂
Maggie Cheung, the actress who played May is one of the most beautiful woman on Planet Earth ever.
She's done some even better performances in other movies. _In the Mood For Love_ (2000) alone is one that shows just what an incredible, versatile actress Maggie is.
@@Texy88 Hell Yeah
Check out Project A 1 and 2, Miracles and Dragons Forever.
Can’t go wrong.
All the best
My dad was in Police Story 4, was filmed in Australia
Dragon forever is my all time favorite movie 😊
I love that movie. Even have it on DVD
And then there's Maggie Cheung, a diamond of cinema.
Definitely police story 3 with Michelle Yeow.
HELL YES!!! if you enjoy the Police Story films you should watch ‘Hard Boiled’ too
After Supercop is First Strike 😉
Jackie's films are the only ones I prefer dubbed 😅
He's got a ton of great movies, but my faves are from his 'fighting around the world' era where he films in exotic locales - Who Am I, Operation Condor, and Supercop are some of his best
First strike, my earliest memory of Jackie Chan. Followed by rumble in the bronx
@@RegulusBlack-w4s Rumble was my intro, followed by Supercop in theater 👍
In the the Line of Duty 3 starring Cynthia Kahn i think you would enjoy it.
Film Jackie chan all real not cgi
He sang the end song too
Never seen this before. Thanks Chrissie 😁!
Most jackie movies are classic! 😊
I hope that doesn't means you watched this reaction as a substitute 😅 Definitely give it a watch if that's the case. I personally don't ever watch reactions to films I haven't seen because you miss so much context and don't get a feel for the film's pacing amongst other things.
Armor of God with Jackie Chan is a personal favorite of mine, if you get it try and get the english dubed version. Watch the credits for outtakes.
I had Supercop on vhs as a kid.
This is still worth the watch, but the old English dub VHS version I had is the funniest version.
The only problems with that old English-dubbed version are that:
(a) they changed almost all of the music [only the Jackie Chan-sung _Hero Story_ song that plays over the closing credits was left intact];
(b) the scene in which Chan is photographed for police promotional material is completely cut;
(c) the telephone scene is almost entirely gone (only the telephone conversation between Chan and Snake Eyes [Tai Po] remained in that version, whereas all of the bits where Chan juggles with multiple telephones and calls is completely excised from that version);
(d) the televised interview with Chan in Chu Tao's office (just after the courtroom scene) is entirely gone, with the exception of a freeze-frame of Chan that Chu turns to at the end of that scene.
@@Texy88 Yeah, but the Chinese music plays the same dumb tune over and over and over.
The reason why they used wigs on the court and some English words is because hong Kong were colonized by the British but no longer since late 90's i think.btw hope you watch the rest of police story series and fun fact Jackie sang the main song in this movie too!
1st July 1997 was when Hong Kong ceased to be a British colony and went back to China.
Another best Jackie Chan films is the rush hour movies
Hong Kong before the handing over to China is always interesting. Same thing with Indian movies made post-independence.
You could've been in a movie like this with your look. It seems these HK movies aren't made anymore, though.
Not many actors can pee themselves on command. That guy had talent.
Sweet movie
Highly recommend checking out 'Rumble in the bronx' & 'Drunken master'{classic jackie} as well as something newer like 'Railroad tigers' & 'The foreigner'.
IF you find yourself taken with some the more martial arts side i'd recommend another classic like 'Method man', an intermidiate like 'Ong bak' & a modern one with an old school feel like 'Fist of the condor'.😉 If you want more comedy then 'Shoalin soccer' & 'Kung-fu Hustle'......
I'd also recommend 'District 13' 2004 {See a hansome looking frenchman also making it look easy.....Also the movie that introduced the world to 'Parkour'!}
& 'Taxi' {franchise} 1998 made by luc besson {fifth element, leon}. Two Under- rated French action crime movies.😁
The unusual mix of language is probably to do with Hong-kong being british owned till the 90's.....
P.s. 'Beast cops' 1998 is another great chinese movie! & 'The Wandering earth' is a stunning newer scifi!
Please do Jackie Chan's "Miracles" (1989), "Wheels on Meals" (1984), Project A (1983) and Project A part 2 (1987)
the casette tape recording got lost in translation. many adult hints in the cactus conversation lol.
16:30 Hong Kong was a British colony till 1998 or 2000
1st July 1997 was when the handover back to China happened.
@Texy88 there you have it. 🥂
Chrissie you're awesome ❤😊
Please do react jackie chan "new police story 2004". It's amazing
日本でも大人気でした。僕も大好きです。海外でもジャッキー・チェン流行ってたんですね。
The guys who flew out of the bus were supposed to land on the car. looks better this way but i always feel bad for the stuntmen when i watch it.
Yes police story Irma vep-> police story 3
Project A 1 & 2, Big Brother, drunken master 2.
Good morning ma'am. I hope you're well! I love Jackie ❤️ rush hour is hilarious. 😁😀😁😀
Chrissie doing the films that SHOULD be done ! Well impressed girl !
For more brilliant foreign action cinema -
John Woo (GOAT action director) - Hard Boiled and The Killer - Chow Yun Fat
The Raid 1 & 2 - Gareth Evans wild Indonesian martial arts epics
Elite Squad 1 & 2 - follows Rio's elite fighting police unit en Bopo in their actions against drug gangs in the wild and unregulated favela. ES 2 is a top five film of mine.
Infernal Affairs trilogy - the first had The Departed based on it, but this is a trilogy. The second which is a prequel is a top 5 film of mine.
16:31 Hong Kong was a British colony at this time
My childhood.
Jackie Chan doing all of his own stunts is a bit of a myth/white lie that he used to tell. It was good for marketing but you do see his team double for him here and there though he definitively does most of it most of the time.
4 Hong Kong Id skip all but Wong Kar Wai and go str8 2 Japan and hit up the cinema classics of Takeshi Kitano: Sonatine, Hana Bi, Brother.
