Hey Davie, Tied up one similar to the blue and went down on river this morning 4:30 and banged into a nice little salmon. Rose him twice before taking. That fly is now in my special fly box on my right side...tnx for sharing. ....cheers to ya!
Hi hunt4fish, It's great to hear that you caught on the Logie just hours after me uploading the video, well done and I'm glad the fly now has a place in your box... All the very best Davie
Hi Alex, I've tyed many Jeanie's over the years and I would have to agree with you it's a great pattern much like the Logie...I hope you are well and out fishing... All the very best Davie
Really beautiful tie Davie. I hope someday to be half as good with materials. I am better than I used to be so more ties means better tying. I don't have as much time as I would like but I have to be careful what I pray for. I might get it! Wife is still hanging on. Just had her birthday party today. She has gotten much worse recently and I am praying she will still be here with us at Christmas. All the best to you and thanks for sharing this addictive and wonderful craft with us. God bless you and yours. Sean
Nice really like the look of that fly but was wondering why you put that yellow first wing on because the mallard covered it up and now can't see it ????
Hi Eric, When the fly is in the water you will see the yellow though to help it along I would mix the wing by lightly brushing it with a small toothbrush to mix the fibres, casting and fishing it will do this as well...I know the old ghillies would just rough the fly up before they fished them by rubbing the wing along the sleeve of their jacket to mix up as it will fish and swim much better..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail hello great thanks I've just recently gotten back to tying again I forgot how expensive it is I started from scratch lol. Anyway I have watched a pile of your vids still have a pile to go there great thanks for putting them out there
dave is that prepared tyers wax with the chalky powder on it is it yust a wax puck I call them I like the good stuff Jimmy got me it need to ask him I have the veniards in a stick but it's better for lip bam melts all over the place
Great fly Davie, not as easy as you make it look!! Did you hear of a fly called The Lizzie? Fancy doing a request tie?!? You ties inspire me to improve. All the best from Ireland Dave
Hi Dave, I haven't heard of the Lizzie but I looked it up on the net and as you may know it's a classic style fly which looks great but these flies take a bit of tying and filming, it may be worth reducing the dressing to a modern style..I can't promise you but I'll certainly keep it in mind... All the very best Davie
Thanks Davie no need to apologise. I had worded the question poorly. Thanks for your time and your patience in answering me. I wonder are there suitable hooks made with standard eyes? Keep the videos coming. I and I'm sure many others really appreciate them and your generosity in sharing so much skill and knowledge. Atb and tight lines. Karl
Hi Karl, I've attached a link to a Black Spey hook made by Ken Sawada, this is a love;y hook to tye these flies on and the size 8 is the one I have used most.. All the very best Davie... www.kensawada.com/w/list.php?l=e&lcat=40&mcat=420
Hi Davie, lovely the as always. Excuse my ignorance but is there a reason the eyes are made like that or is it just tradition. Surely a round eye would make for a neater fly. Thanks for sharing your great skills. Karl
Davie, looks like it is a product for the UK. So I ordered it through one of the fly shops over the pond!. Funny thing when I went to Veniards website they mentioned you are a user of the wax. Good job.
Hi Colbee, It's very hard to find Blue Eared Pheasant here in the UK it is much easier to find it in America as this is where I bought mine.. I have attached a link to a site that sells Jungle Cock which is a good price and the quality I have heard is very good..I hope this is of some help to you.. bransfordgame.com/jungle-cock-capes/ All the very best Davie
Hi Davie, Thanks for replying but I worded my question poorly. I was wondering about the hook eye not the jungle cock. Why are the hooks made with the return and not as a trout hook? Is it to do with knots or just tradition? Thanks for all your wonderful videos they are a great source of information and inspiration.
Hi Karl, I would say it's more down to tradition that the salmon single hooks are made like this but I have to be honest I've never looked into the history of the making of these hooks..If you use the turtle knot then I will tye short of the eye as this is the only time I will do this...I'm sorry I got your question wrong... All the very best Davie
Hi R Loos, Steaming the crest feather will bring the natural shape back into the feathers. I would do this if I was making Classic salmon flies which are more for show than for fishing...I'm glad you liked the Logie... All the very best Davie
Mr. McPhail, you are an artist. It is a pleasure to watch you tye.
David going over low water salmon flies & keep getting inspiration from your library - thank you cheers Steve
Lovely fly Davie. Exceptionally well tied and explained. Many thanks for sharing.
Onestly your flys are so good. Bravo Davie 🎉

I did enjoy it, Davie... and learned some things I'd been unclear on along with. Thank you.

Very nice as always Davie, that really takes me back. Long time since I've fished the Logie, the Jeanie was a great low water fly too.
