  • Most people use the dana 44 if they're going twin traction beam (TTB), but have you ever heard of a dana 50 TTB? I will be swapping this 3/4 ton IFS front axle into my explorer chassis as well as swapping the axle over to coil springs instead of leaf springs.
    Ultimately this will mean my cummins explorer will be on 3/4 ton 8 lug axles front and rear which should be plenty beefy for what I'll be doing with it!

    Please consider leaving a like if you liked the video! If you want to see the rest of this cummins explorer build then please consider subscribing and sticking around.
    On the next episode I swap the leaf sprung dana 50 over to coils and get it all bolted up in the chassis!

    Cut a groove in a piece of sheet metal to place between the boot and the pickle fork for the pickle fork to slide on, protecting the boot…

    Cool build, good thing I stumbled upon your channel. I'm building a TTB mega cab. I've already cut and turned my beams. Looking forward to all the travel compared to my wagon.

    If you use 2 hammers and wack both sides of the pitman arm at the same time it will shock the tapered connection and the tie rod end will pop out.

    Old fashioned and would go the straight axle route but the 50 ttb a good choice for application and weight increase

    Keep it up man! Might want to check the hub diameter on the front and rear, I think they’re are different. Same lug pattern but the hubs might be different.

      Thanks! You are correct, typically fords have larger hub bores. I checked my wheels though and in this case they'll fit!

      @@BuildSomethingAuto you will need a concentric ring for the the back ones then, no big deal though, you can make some on the lathe.

      Well that would make all that work I did to fit a 3/4 ton TTB a waste 😉. I prefer TTB for a build like this.

    The 50 ttb calipers also have tremendous stopping power.
    If you really want to, they can even be welded solid.

    Can I use the tie rods ,draglink ,all that from a straight Dana 50 on the d50 hd ttb???

    • @BuildSomethingAuto
      @BuildSomethingAuto  ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont think the steering on the solid axle and the TTB are the same since the TTB needs to pivot in the middle. However Ive never worked with the solid axle version. You could try to find one in a junkyard to verify. Good luck with your project!

    I own a 2014 Jk and a 1989 full size bronco
    The bronco is better you are making the right choice.
    Only thing I would do different is the engine the new Godzilla engine is like 7k in a create.

    I believe a 1999 dodge 1500 master brake cylinder converts over Fairly easy, you just have to file the push rod down just a hair.

    You are wrong. Those auto hubs off the explorer axle are a purely mechanical system...a crappy system.

    • @BuildSomethingAuto
      @BuildSomethingAuto  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ive heard that theyre junk, but Ive never actually used them since my first explorer, the green first gen, was swapped to manual hubs by the previous owner.
      I did own a 2nd gen for a short time, maybe I was mixing it up with that.

      @@BuildSomethingAuto I'm putting a dana 50 on my toyota too. Don't listen to the goofs, all of our boomer predecessors just ripped them off for solid axle swaps and never bothered to modify the TTB set ups to the point other people have and still think they're garbage.

    • @jackkrinkov9273
      @jackkrinkov9273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dana 60 is too easy, TTB has tons of potential for long travel and the cool factor as well
