Because thats what makes the story of a game more meaningful. the human face expressions tells a thousand stories so to bring it to a game...well its going to feel as powerful as a film.
Because generating a realistic animation of a face in real-time is more difficult and requires better technology than generating a realistic animation of a hand, for example. Plus, the face features multiple types of surfaces (the gloss of the eye, the rough texture of a shaven beard, the thin skin of the ear for light to pass through, etc.) and it allows them to show off various shaders and whatnot under different circumstances.
i dont think ppl realize how amazing this is. more powerful than a ps3 and can run on only one third of the power of current tablets. that is a marvel in computer engineering. only problem is that mobile games today suck but hopefully the quality in games will improve in these next years to better utilize all this power.
Looking at the fact that Ira is a benchmark for TItan and Logan can run it on Full HD, I think we can safely say that Battlefield 3 could POTENTIALLY run on mobile devices (maybe on low settings) but only if the OS is full fledged windows.
Imagine people will be able to do this in the future with their own head and put different hair, tattoos etc to see how it looks before you do it, Would be legit.
LA Noir is not real-time generated facial movements. They're pre-recorded using motion capture technology. This is totally different. The initial demo of this tech Nvidia showed off at a conference was using almost the entire pure performance of the Geforce Titan, a GPU with 2.5 times the power of a PS4's GPU.
rendering faces means allot considering the fact that the most unrealistic looking thing in most 3d games is the human face. i don't expect this type of thing to be standard any time soon, but it is good to know that people are thinking about it. and that doesn't even mention the effect that this type of tech could have on environments and non human models.
Anyone remember the tech demo for Half life 2 Source engine? That was 10 years ago, and it still looks amazing even to this day. Can't wait to see what Valve has up their sleeves for Source 2.
That's because they were the at the console's highest potential at the time. I never said the games with bad graphics wouldn't *AT ALL* be emotional or immersive. I said they wouldn't be AS emotional or immersive. Hell, Kingdom Hearts made me tear up. Though to say it's MORE-so, is entirely biased. I would say the same about KH, but that's just because it was a bigger part of my childhood. I also never said great games require great graphics.
O.O holy......Android is starting to become a great gaming platform, 2013 was when it got good. I am buying a nexus 7 2 with a moga pro and I will for sure keep an eye out for logan tablets and hope that they are priced good
Obviously you've never played Crysis maxed at 1920x1080+ which looks better than any GAMEPLAY we've seen running on next-gen console hardware. As for the video, this is pretty damn impressive. This is insane power in a mobile form factor. Nvidia have been hitting the ball out the park the past few years.
It helps a lot in games such as Metro: Last Light, where they're trying to immerse you in a world, that and it's prequel just would not have worked as well 10-15 years ago.
We haven't had a whole lot of great looking games though. Now that the consoles are being upgraded we will start to see some amazing looking games and better optimization in cross platform titles. Sure we have Planetside 2 and stuff, but they still are not quite "next gen"
Clearly you haven't seen their kitchen, oh my god, they are so good. Chickens have 300 different animations besides other features such as dropping eggs and ovulating.
XD I loved how they flaunted it as high tech in the vid, fish that actually swim away from you... AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!! MY HEAD IS HURTING FROM ALL THAT INNOVATION! What are they gonna do next, add character customisation? Oh wait
The point i think they were trying to make was that the hardware they are making is far superior to any other company out there and the potential it has for graphics. I also think what you are saying it totally incorrect. Mobile gaming is still very new and we don't fully understand what can and cannot work. We still haven't achieved that game that is just perfect and sets the benchmark for the rest, Logan may provide that possibility and change the market entirely.
Certain games they do, actually. Could you imagine The Last Of Us or Heavy Rain with ps1 graphics? They wouldn't be as emotional as they are, they wouldn't be as immersive, or effective, or overall 'good' at all. They'd be downright ludicrous
the mobile game market isn't that far behind the console game market when it comes to graphics these days. it is noticeably behind the 360 and ps3, but about on par with the original wii. in less than 5 years it will have better graphics than the "current generation" (360 and ps4). although i agree that on a tablet or phone simple games make more sense, and i do play some games on a tablet.
People are playing candy crush saga and angry birds on their mobile devices, I don't see a massive market for something this powerful on a mobile platform.
that entire time i was thinking he looked like he farted, surprising him, then looking around to see if anyone smelled it. finally, everyone smelled the horrible fart and saddened him.
We have spent the last 20 years going from standard def on small tv's to high def on 60" tv's. why now this push to go smaller than ever. I want my 60"+ screen and I think most of you do too. P.S. Facial animation has been on this level and above for the last 5 or 6 years so I'm not the least bit pressed. It's like touting 50 miles per gallon in a remote controlled car. Cool, but who really cares?
well this is by nvidia which is a company that researchs graphics technology and makes graphics cards and such, soooo why wouldnt they show off the most realistic graphics and such? they arent really game developers are they?
As of right now you won't fina any games that would benifit from it since they all focus around specific poly count that is limited by the game engine being used. Most developers understand that the common gamer doesn't have bill gates computer in their homes so they don't waste the extra money using this technology.
Yup it's not like they will dissapear.there things on each platform are just not fun on another And fps games are the most fun on pc,not tablets at least to me!
Everyone seems threatened by phones and tablets in here. Lol. What does it matter what device your game is playing on. As long as the games end up matching the experience you had on consoles including the controller support you should be fine! No only that but you won't be limited to the room with your tv or even your house! What's so threatening about that?! O.o
This is what I was hoping the next-gen console graphics would look like.
I think people are missing that this is running on a tablet/smartphone. This is really impressive.
Technology is advancing faster as the years go by, this is pretty awesome.
Because thats what makes the story of a game more meaningful. the human face expressions tells a thousand stories so to bring it to a game...well its going to feel as powerful as a film.

Considering that this can run on a tablet is already amazing.

This demo already exists on the pc. It's been out there for a whole while.
battery life
call of duty ghosts: 10 minutes
crysis 3: 2 minutes
bf4: 30 seconds
Imagine people will be able to do this in the future with their own head and put different hair, tattoos etc to see how it looks before you do it, Would be legit.

This is scary because how real it looks...
Anyone remember the tech demo for Half life 2 Source engine?

Source 2 is still not released

I also never said great games require great graphics.
the most detailed digital human face ive seen so far is by quantic dream. But this one is pretty good
O.O
holy......Android is starting to become a great gaming platform, 2013 was when it got good. I am buying a nexus 7 2 with a moga pro and I will for sure keep an eye out for logan tablets and hope that they are priced good

Who the hell would put that much effort and attention to detail, to a mobile game?
Clearly you haven't seen their kitchen, oh my god, they are so good. Chickens have 300 different animations besides other features such as dropping eggs and ovulating.
While graphics don't make a game good. They do make them more enjoyable.
We get it graphics isn't everything, but this is simply to showcase the technology nothing more chill.
This is awesome but I'd recommending changing the name when introducing this to Ireland :L
We did it people!
This shit doesn't look creepy as fuck anymore and more just a spaz blinking and twitching.. WELCOME TO THE FUTURE!
Ira looks so realistic.
2 Ghz Quad Processors, GPU that can match PCs. At this rate Mobile Phones and Tablets will come on top of the Technology performance race.
Oh wait
Let's hope they live up to their legacy. Maybe HL3 for the new generation?
The point i think they were trying to make was that the hardware they are making is far superior to any other company out there and the potential it has for graphics. feels like every 5 years we see an amazing face modeled but it never makes it into the video games !
you did a demo on a face simulation vs a level/stage simulation. how is "Ira" going to handle sandbox, and multi poly object on screen render.
depends on what kind of games you wanna play
Valid point. But still... you have to admit, game companies seem to only that better graphics mean that the game's going to be better.
Thats gonna be one badass tablet.
Certain games they do, actually. Could you imagine The Last Of Us or Heavy Rain with ps1 graphics? They wouldn't be as emotional as they are, they wouldn't be as immersive, or effective, or overall 'good' at all. They'd be downright ludicrous
This is kinda creepy, but most realistic looking skin ever.nuff said
Faces will not look like this in a full open world game , it would need so much power to run a game as big battlefield with these intense graphics
That will definitely be possible in about 10 years
If only the IRA weren't so extreme, but it's not like people are gonna listen otherwise.
It is in Nvidias GPU's. Did you even watch the video?
and that is a bad thing? don't get me wrong, gameplay is my number one desire in a game, but making it look great is also pretty awesome.
Ladies, Gentlemen... We have embarked upon the Uncanny Valley.
well preorder sales and overall audience impact on the next gen consoles say otherwise
the mobile game market isn't that far behind the console game market when it comes to graphics these days. it is noticeably behind the 360 and ps3, but about on par with the original wii. in less than 5 years it will have better graphics than the "current generation" (360 and ps4). although i agree that on a tablet or phone simple games make more sense, and i do play some games on a tablet.
That looks terrifyingly real
People are playing candy crush saga and angry birds on their mobile devices, I don't see a massive market for something this powerful on a mobile platform.
Ikr? Like Planetside 2, BF3, and games like that won't be able to run on tablets for a while.
So you console guys enjoy your next gen for ten years, which is where PC's have been for a while now. While we actually go into the next generation!
Put this in an full area with effects and everything that come's with a game then i'll judge the graphics
that entire time i was thinking he looked like he farted, surprising him, then looking around to see if anyone smelled it. finally, everyone smelled the horrible fart and saddened him.
Now I really want Oculus Rift made to work portable.
We have spent the last 20 years going from standard def on small tv's to high def on 60" tv's. why now this push to go smaller than ever. I want my 60"+ screen and I think most of you do too. P.S. Cool, but who really cares?
The videogame industry is getting a lot of mileage out of that one face
"mobile" is starting to become a great gaming platform, stop being stuck in 2005
I was expecting him to say "not rubbery like on amd cards"... I don't know why, I like both, and I don't think that they would be that ballsy... IDK.
There will be a cold day in hell before the consoles manage to outrun PC's in the graphics department. Or any other for that matter.
I don't think people notice this is for smartphones and tablets
**Correction** How much more would a tablet cost with this GPU?
well this is by nvidia which is a company that researchs graphics technology and makes graphics cards and such, soooo why wouldnt they show off the most realistic graphics and such? they arent really game developers are they?
I read "Ira" as /ee-rah/, as in the Spanish word for 'rage' or 'anger'. I came here expecting to see the one emotion they really didn't show lol
Which mobile games care about facial animation?
This has been used on PC. What's with the unnecessary portable device hate?
who cares about tablets, we need more good games on consoles!
The eyes look really good, the teeth and ears area need more work.
your coment made my day
but there is always something, not sure what, but makes you know it's not real. not just the fact that we already know its fake but something else
it's for tablets and smartphones...
amazing... but we still don't have animation like that on pc :(
Well. At least this time they got it partly right. Their engine DOES look next-gen. Except it's next-gen for tablets and smartphones. lol
Wow, graphics don't make a game. But this is so good!
Can I play games with an amd a10 6800k?????
you can still plug a keyboard and mouse in..
Of course you do.
So InfinintyWard wasn't joking aboutthere graphics? it looks just like the model they used.
I thought it was the I.R.A.
STOP MAKING THE FACES THIS REALISTIC...
Its creepy...
Video on a tablet and call it 'next-gen graphics for tablets and smartphones.'
Now you need a pretty fucking powerful battery.
Nvidia is just upset AMD monopolizing next gen. So they decided to hit up the tablet department.
How much would much more would a tablet cost with this GPU?
You know whats even more amazing! PS4! ;)
Yes project logan is only $2000! Go buy one today!
Hello, when this came out 😭😀😎
As of right now you won't fina any games that would benifit from it since they all focus around specific poly count that is limited by the game engine being used. Most developers understand that the common gamer doesn't have bill gates computer in their homes so they don't waste the extra money using this technology.
What's Tim Howard doing here?
In fact it could run BF3 on Low with Dx11 what would still be better then the Ps3/Xbox360 Version.
This is why there is a console war and the PC is left out. It's because the PC is leaps and bounds ahead! XD
ira has a scary smile
but.......will it blend?
awesome!
i hope apple makes a processor lik that...
With this rate mobile performance will catch up with next generation consoles mid life cycle lol.
Yup it's not like they will dissapear.there things on each platform are just not fun on another
And fps games are the most fun on pc,not tablets at least to me!
If this man had hair, then it would probably lagg.
Up the RA !!!! If your Irish and proud like this comment
Everyone seems threatened by phones and tablets in here. Lol. What does it matter what device your game is playing on.
