I used to be a huge Apple fan in Brazil, but recently switched from Apple to Samsung and have no regrets. The AI features are at least two years ahead, not to mention that Samsung has stores all over my country, offers a charger and assistance, and has much more competitive prices. I'm very happy with the switch.
Do you have other Apple products? In my opinion, if you are just an iPhone user, you won't miss much changing brands. But when you have an iPhone, MacBook, Apple Watch, Apple TV, etc. then it is not worthy the trade

Most of new features and quality of life are made for people who have Apple Watches, AirPods, AirTags, Apple TVs, pencils, HomePods, CarPlay cars, iMac, MacBooks, etc. They want you to buy those. For iPhone itself, they only give a few most basic features each year which Android has been having for 10+ years like being able to leave icons in the center of home screen in iOS 18; or features from Jailbreak; or remove features only to add back in future iOS such as battery percentage. Apple has become too greedy in a very unapologetically disgusting level.

As a Swede, I am used to many new software news being delayed or not coming to my language at all. However, it would have been fun to get AI from the beginning and not hope that it will come sometime next year.
I don’t think the iPhone 16 models will divide us iPhone users, artificial intelligence isn’t necessary for everyone which is why I will stick with my iPhone 13 Pro Max.

So naturally I won't be upgrading for years to come (at least, 3-5 years). Just as well. Apple Intelligence holds no attraction for me. Generative AI is a gimmick, and a rather unethical one at that. That does not work here. You need a supported apple ID country account. But you lose access to all your purchases like apple music tv arcade. You can keep the icloud linked so you wont lose contacts or photos, just everything store related is gone.

The vast majority of iPhone users do not upgrade their devices every year or every two years or even every three years. Only people who have more money than sense upgrade so frequently. I do not expect a huge wave of upgrades based on Apple Intelligence. If this is what Apple is hoping for, they will be disappointed. This is all the more true given what you've told us about AI fragmentation.

Apple always find a reason to not give adequate RAM to their phones. Even new M4 iPad Pros are given 8GB RAM. RAM must be the sole reason why they are refraining MACs to get new M4 chips as the combination would minimize the performance difference between the upcoming $1199 computer and currently selling $1,999 computer.
iOS doesn’t need as much RAM which is why they don’t add as much, but with Apple Intelligence they will have no choice but to increase the amount of RAM in their phones going forward as their AI features because more complex. Also the 1 and 2TB versions of the M4 iPad Pro have 16GB RAM.

I suspect that the average iPhone user will try AI a few times, then either find it not so useful, or too complicated to use. Kinda like how the average user treats all those cameras. Most just want a quick picture of their kids/family, & don't have the slightest idea how to use most of the advanced camera features. I'll upgrade my 14 ProMax, mostly because I like a new toy, & to get rid of the lightning port. The AI software, which we'll be lucky to get by Christmas, is kinda secondary.
I think I've said this before, but you are becoming much more gritty and I like that style 🙂. You're right, I live in the UK which is no longer in the EU so may or may not get or not get some of the features that iOS 18 and the iPhone 16 will deliver in the USA. You're also quite correct that AI will create more barriers to international competition as you say, there are a lot of countries that will not accept Apple intelligence or Gemini intelligence or Chat GPT. The tech world is going to become even more fragmented as has been focused by the lack of competition in the USA in the foldable market.
Luckily, I am on the Fibonacci upgrade cycle and thus I can hold onto my iPhone 13 Pro until the iPhone 21 Pro comes out. By then the AI will be fully developed and the bugs from the iPhone 16 will be resolved

That does not work here. You need a supported apple ID country account. But you lose access to all your purchases like apple music tv arcade. You can keep the icloud linked so you wont lose contacts or photos, just everything store related is gone.
Back in the early 2000s, Apple had to face similar regulatory challenges with iTunes and antitrust concerns over music downloads. Fast forward to today, and it's all about AI and charging ports!

I’d love to see the data on the carbon footprint they already have for iCloud, Apple Music streaming, Apple TV streaming, etc. and now adding Apple Intelligence on top of that the carbon footprint is going to be enormous.

The vast majority of iPhone users do not upgrade their devices every year or every two years or even every three years. Only people who have more money than sense upgrade so frequently.
I do not expect a huge wave of upgrades based on Apple Intelligence. If this is what Apple is hoping for, they will be disappointed.

Apple always find a reason to not give adequate RAM to their phones. Even new M4 iPad Pros are given 8GB RAM. RAM must be the sole reason why they are refraining MACs to get new M4 chips as the combination would minimize the performance difference between the upcoming $1199 computer and currently selling $1,999 computer.
iOS doesn’t need as much RAM which is why they don’t add as much, but with Apple Intelligence they will have no choice but to increase the amount of RAM in their phones going forward as their AI features because more complex. Also the 1 and 2TB versions of the M4 iPad Pro have 16GB RAM.
If Apple Intelligence is so “intelligent” as Siri, then Im happy to live in the EU and not having it.

Generative AI enables users to create "fake news" and false realities. This is something I will avoid due to ethical considerations.
AI should be a force for good. It should provide practical, useful outcomes, not chicanery.
AI should automate tasks. AI should inform. AI should do no harm.

I suspect that the average iPhone user will try AI a few times, then either find it not so useful, or too complicated to use. Kinda like how the average user treats all those cameras. Most just want a quick picture of their kids/family, & don't have the slightest idea how to use most of the advanced camera features. I'll upgrade my 14 ProMax, mostly because I like a new toy, & to get rid of the lightning port. The AI software, which we'll be lucky to get by Christmas, is kinda secondary.

You're right, I live in the UK which is no longer in the EU so may or may not get or not get some of the features that iOS 18 and the iPhone 16 will deliver in the USA. You're also quite correct that AI will create more barriers to international competition as you say, there are a lot of countries that will not accept Apple intelligence or Gemini intelligence or Chat GPT. The tech world is going to become even more fragmented as has been focused by the lack of competition in the USA in the foldable market.

Luckily, I am on the Fibonacci upgrade cycle and thus I can hold onto my iPhone 13 Pro until the iPhone 21 Pro comes out. By then the AI will be fully developed and the bugs from the iPhone 16 will be resolved
