I'm a 65 year old artist that's been drawing and painting my entire life. Well for 56 years anyway. I'm grateful that I came across your channel today. Thank you for your ideas and inspiration. All the best!!
I have been looking for this forRVER. I’ve asked so many other artists and photographers and even framing places and no one has been able to direct me to anything. Thank you so much. I think my guides directed me to you today because you just showed up on my feed and you too. Thank you thank you thank you.❤
Congrats on your online art sales! It's so awesome to see other artists who are absolutely killing it! I really appreciate the depth of your content - I've learned a lot from you thank-you:)
Awesome! I thought I needed to buy an expensive camera to take photos of my work…so glad to see that using your phone is a great option! And I’ll definitely be looking into Gelato! Love your videos and your sweet spirit! God bless!
I have made hundreds of reproductions for artists professionally with high end gear. Some good tips here that will get you started but please be aware that using a phone will only get you so far. Even if colours look decent, the print size will be limited, fine details and colour nuances lacking and you really won't be squeezing all thats possible out of it. Using a DSLR is a huge step up if done well but that process can be quite technical if taken all the way. It really has to be done right to get good results. While a phone often appears to give a better starting point, it will not stand up nearly as well in larger sizes or with high quality prints. Remember if you are selling the originals, once they're gone, you won't have a chance to make a higher quality reproduction later.
@@virginiainnes9042 newer iPhones (I use a 14 pro max) do have built-in “raw” photograph settings that can be enabled. iPhone users have the option to use the automatic click and go function (the setting that is pre-enabled when you first receive the phone), or they can change the phone’s camera settings and choose manual photography functions.
I do professional scanning of my artwork BEFORE someone wants to buy my painting. Then I keep professionally done high resolution image, and can sell high quality prints.
Great advice Kayla, thank you for informing other people. Your art is beautiful, lighting up peoples homes, making them smile every time they look at it.
This is a great video! This is the first video of yours I’ve ever seen… lucky me! I have my art printed by a local shop but this really excites me, it seems so easy! Thank you😊. New sub here🎉
I adore your videos and I hope your channel continues to grow and grow! This is fabulous information for people who are starting out and want to introduce prints to their online shop! I've taken courses that cost $$$ and you've summarized this info very well! Don't waste your money folks, it's all here!
Isnt boredom a personal situation, what bores me might be exciting for someone else? Anyway i could watch you paint for hours, and maybe the rug in winter with a nice hot mug of coffee or hot chocolate 🍫 😂
I am using ArtPal right now. Haven't sold anything. I was going to print them myself if I EVER get an order. :( My husband and I are disabled and our disability is Not enough. Our rent takes half! I do my art and help my husband build Nixie clocks to supliment our income. I am really going to check this out. I need to then learn how to market myself. Thank you so much for this video. I'm suppose to be going to bed. BUT, now I need to check out Gelato.
I experimented with using a printing company for my art in the past, but I found it frustrating to translate my computer monitor images into satisfactory prints that I would be comfortable direct shipping to my customers. You explained how you adjusted you image on your monitor, but what did you do to verify the accuracy of the print on demand? Did you have the printer send you hard copy samples to keep adjusting your monitor settings until you were satisfied? Your insight would be helpful. Thanks!
No it would not be boring at all!!! 😊 Are you shopping your own ref pick or are you taking inspiration from what is out there? Love love love the paintings ❤
Soft box staging lights. I have 2 of them purchased on Amazon for about $60/set of 2 which came in their own traveling bag with extra bulbs and the cover to go over the light (to adjust lighting).
Thank you for your video but I still have one big unanswered question: how do you ensure that the colors you see on the screen are what you get on the prints?. Every computer screen is different and the colors on the screen may not be the same colors on the print. What tools do Gelato provide to achieve color matching? Did you do a sample print first and made further adjustments on your computer and repeated the process until you get perfect color match?
@@mapleruin I think so too, but it is time consuming and could be costly because it is an iterative process, it is very likely that you will have to get the sample prints several times. She either is very lucky or omitted steps.
Hi Kayla. You're gorgeous btw but aside from that, could you do a video on how you generate sales or leads or whatever the right word is to your website for people to buy your prints please? I guess it's social media but have no idea really...
Which paper do you use on Gelato for your posters? I'm doing abstract watercolors with vibrant colors and would want my prints to capture those vibrancy as well. I saw Giclee Fine Art Poster option too and Premium, Musem Quality and Classic options as Matte Paper Posters. Which would be the best in my scenario?
Enjoyed the video. I am a total newbie to canvas prints. How is your signature handled when the wrapped edge of your painting is mirrored and printed on the side of the canvas? Does Gelato remove the signature on the side of the painting before it is mirror printed? Thank you
The preframed print looks amazing !! How much did that cost ? I got 7 diamond paintings professionally framed and it was so expensive but they look amazing ! But now i have to charge more for my art and im trying to find cheaper options . These diamomd paintings are weird sizes hence i had to get them professionally framed .
Sounds realy good. I have a question though. How can I be sure that they don't sell my art by themselves for their own profit escaping my percentage? My location is Greece Europe. We have many fraud companies here unfortunately
This shocks me! Whenever I have tried to use my cellphone photos of my art my Print On Demand shop gives me resolution errors so I can't print above a certain size. Do you have certain settings on your phone?
Hi! If you only sell prints from gillato how do you limit what customers are offered on that site? Or do you (the artist) do the actual ordering on gillato or does the buyer? Ih hope Im making sense.
In this video she actually described the process where she orders prints, Gelato ships them to her, then her customers order them from her website. Then she packs and ships their orders, and mails them to the customer herself.
Does anybody know about the DPI? I know we need at least 300 and iPhone camera doesn’t have that, it’s 96 if I’m not wrong. Like what should I do to increase the DPI?
For such amazing work, I’m sorry but I’m baffled you’re not using a dslr and tripod to capture your painting. To minimise shaking and capture the art effectively, from the perfect straight on angle, to make sure proportions are correct etc. You can always adjust the colours, colour temp etc in photoshop after on your computer. And if it’s shot RAW even better as you can change the blacks and whites etc. iPhones cheat and ad a fake ‘vibrancy’ filter, they are not proper cameras! There’s no way an iPhone can capture all the intricate details, brush strokes, colours that a DSLR can pick up, they pick up more details than our eyes do! Your work deserves better. How can you stretch an iPhone photo to a 50x70cm print and persevere details? as a fellow artist I’m shocked to see this.
The color issue most likely to do with the default color profile in the device you are using. If you have a camera that allows you to save the photo in RAW, you can import that into Lightroom and adjust the colors there. I noticed the prints look a little washed out. Using a good camera and software for photography would help a lot. You can also hire professionals that can “digitize” the art for you as well
Since you have natural light through the window on that side, put your light box on the other side so that there is even light across the whole painting 👍
@GypsyinAus You do have the option to pay an artist to create a custom piece for only you. You’d be paying to own the copyright of the artwork, and it’s what we call “commissions work”. Most artists charge a bit more for commissions vs non-commissioned because of the exclusive nature of a custom piece of art (which is what you are saying you’d prefer). It’s usually non-commissioned artwork that the artist retains all rights to and is then used to sell in decorative prints or other retail products. That said, even if a professional artist releases one of their pieces for print availability, it’s usually only released for a limited time or a limited amount of print orders-so there’s still an element of exclusivity to it compared to something more mass-produced, like for example, art from the Walmart home decor dept. There are also artists who paint solely for offering decorative prints and don’t do commissions work at all. Sometimes an artist will make a non-commissioned work to sell a limited number of “artist-enhanced prints” (similar to like, Thomas Kinkade)-which is when an artist (or their artist assistants) will paint actual paint onto a print of their original piece (usually painting over the main subject, not usually painted over the entire print). It creates the “actually painted” look with texture, and provides a unique rendering on top of a print that would otherwise be exactly the same as the other prints of the same artwork. Custom enhanced prints provide the illusion of an expensive piece of artwork, one that may have taken the artist months to originally complete, but with an enhanced print it took much less time to print and then enhance and sign rather than painting a custom piece in its entirety. Artist enhanced prints are also directly signed by the artist and usually numbered for a limited edition, as well as certificated as an original signed print; whereas a standard decorative print may only have the artists signature printed into it (however it was signed on the original painting, with no additional rendering post-printing). As artists, we are very blessed to have such variety of options to meet the needs of every type of collector! If you are the type of collector who prefers exclusive commissioned pieces, that is wonderful! Not everyone has the budget for that type of collecting though. 🙂
