Band stretch isn’t caused by the watch being «worn too tight» (8:40), but the opposite, worn so loose that it slides all the way down to where your wrist widens, or even a bit past the wrist joint itself, and where the hand begins and you then BEND THE WRIST with even the slightest force, especially upwards, the way you do when you LEAN ON A TABLE, PALM FLAT DOWN, and other similar situations. What happens is you JACK IT WIDER each time. It’s the momentum that turns the relatively small force you are aware of into the LARGE FORCE needed to bend vulnerable steel elements in a bracelet.

Really enjoyed your video. Just started watching some of yours in the last 2 months and find your style refreshingly down to earth and honest. I bought my first Rolex submariner, a 5512 , in 1968 in the main PX in Da Nang . I think I paid $240 , and still have that watch today . It started me on a lifelong journey with watches. I've collected, what I like to think , is a pretty solid group of time peices over the years . For my every day rotation sub, I have a newer , super case 116610ln that gets plenty of wrist time . I've had my original sub factory serviced over the years but have always made sure to include a note requesting that Rolex do no polishing other than hand wipe down to the watch . That insured that no damage was ever done to that case . Any polishing to be done , I can do by hand . Anyway, keep up your video work . Really like what you have to say.

@@mannyfox8089 That was actually a mis-type . The sub that I bought was a 5513. Anyway , I was issued a Tudor Sub , and a few years later a Type 1 Benrus. Every once in a while they would have some other watch they would issue to try out . In Vietnam, just the Tudor sub.

I bought a Tudor Pelagos off eBay. Came with box, papers, and the receipt. I actually went in an AD to examine their Pelagos- noted how the bezel felt, the sound of the clicks, the details of the clasp and dial. It all checked out. Got a great deal at $2800

I'm actually a dealer and was curious to hear more people's responses to the need for box and papers. To me, for my personal collection, box and papers is important from a collectors standpoint. But for those that don't care and just want a watch in great condition, does having a letter of authenticity put you all at ease? Especially buying from complete strangers over the internet?

I bought a GMT 2 black bezel (ceramic in 2008 ) the green GMT hand model , lovely watch it cost me £3600 from a AD . put £1600 down paid the rest off interest free over 18 months . My wife went mad with me lol I only went out to buy a new T shirt in the local shopping centre !. But it was such an awesome watch and interest free credit I could not resist . I have always collected watches but the Rolex was the single most expensive watch I bought up to that point my previous record was around the £1200 mark for a fantastic Tag . I wore my Rolex as my daily beater , did DIY in it and all sorts never babied it at all I had it serviced by Rolex Uk in 2016 cost me around £500 as I recall ( that made my eyes water ) but it came back looking spanking new yes they polished it but not to heavy IMO . I have the original receipt the service receipt and all the original box papers etc etc that it came with . I was usrprised how much the watch is worth now even on the second hand market and I take great pleasure in reminding my wife how much hell she gave me back in 2008 when I "wasted" all that money on a watch lol . I can't pretend that I bought it as an investment or that I knew the market would appreciate etc etc . At the time it was a aspirational buy and I wore it like any other much much cheaper watch in my collection. I bought the new Airking in 2016 mainly because I saw one in an AD window and despite the controversy over the face design I loved it's quirkeyness. When I bought the AirKing it took me a week or two to get over buyers remorse and realise my first impressions were correct at the time . I believe the Airking 2016 will in time become a classic and much loved model in the Rolex Range depite being called the marmite watch of Rolex .
Fast forward to 2020 and I am going to sell my Rolexes and a few lesser pieces as they no longer hold much attraction to me which is kind of strange and hard to believe as they were once prized possessions . I have always had cheaper watches G Shock , Tag , Oris and the like even Orient and a few Seikos all bought for various reasons at various times in my life so I am no watch snob only wishing to wear "perceived success brands " such as Rolex . Truth is I no longer care and am just as happy wearing a middle of the road Seiko or G shock as my Rolexes . In fact after 40 years (since childhood) of collecting watches along the way in my life from my first Timex to my last Rolex I finally feel free of the watch collecting bug that has afflicted me all my life and realise that Most any watch even of reasonable quality and affordability for most anyone can give you accurate timekeeping AND pleasure of ownership it does not have to be a grail watch or an aspiration brand .
Personally I feel better having learned that lesson in my heart and got rid of the "bug" hence the intention to sell all but one or two of my cheapest watches to wear as daily beaters and I will be glad to pass them on to someone else to enjoy as I once did . ...Thanks for the upload interesting insight into what makes YOU tick no pun intended as a watch collector . Keep up the good work .

Even with all of that, I'd still consider going to a local watchmaker and asking them to take off the back and verify that it had the correct Rolex movement inside. I can't imagine that would cost a great deal and then you'd know for certain. Submariner fakes have gotten so good that that can be virtually the only sure way.

Though I was mainly window shopping. I spotted a 14060 with a fair price. Upon inspection. It was in very good condition and unpolished case with full lugs and chamfered edges and with all the pointers mentioned. It was circa 1997 Tritium dial with a full set with all the box and papers and tags. Even down to the original purchase receipt! It's literally spent it's whole life in my region. I knew I'd regret it. If i didn't jump on it. To top it off I comes on 12 months warranty. I've been wearing it 2 months straight! Absolutely over the moon!

Both subs are dive watches, both are from Rolex, but the design and they feel completely different.
The Kermit feels solid and modern and the 14060m feel light and vintage. It's the last of the vintage looking subs with the 2 lines of text.
The Kermit is green and doesn't really work with straps. The black 14060m works with all different style of straps and colours.
The biggest thing is, the Kermit is worth £13k+. I'm going to stop wearing it because of that.

That is a nice watch. Love that it came with everything. I just started collecting watches last year and have 35... it is a sickness. Many if not most have been bought off eBay but mine are inexpensive watches. The nice thing is I can and do look at thousands of watches before I pull the trigger on a $25 vintage Cort with display case, outer box, and papers. Does it make sense to buy something that is not worth the value of a service... no, but it is a collection, pieces of history, they run, and I might wear it one day per month. I wish I could find someone who will just repair a watch and not do the full service.

That's sort of the point of Rolex restoration though? Collector's want original parts and pieces. If you buy an offical serviced rolex by rolex and don't like what you've gotten. You might hold onto it as a beater and buy another used or a new one. Rolex offical restorations may be captializing on devaluation like switching out bezels and crystals, or polishing off too much material. Because they know people either want a pristine well taken of watch or an original beaten up piece. Anything inbetween is damaged and modded. That's kind of the mentality for watch collector's in a nutshell?

Also, the watch should be fully wound or have been worn for the better part of the day before any timing machine test. Cheers mate.

What I find funny is that you call buying on ebay scary, and pass a list of checks that reduce the likelihood of a fake, however the only real way to buy safely is to buy on ebay (or at least via paypal) and send the watch for service. Until you do that, you don't know if what is inside is the 100% the real thing. And ebay feedback is almost worthless, as many buyers do not understand anything.
