First off, I am a mommy’s and daddy’s girl as old as I am. I requested that this be played at my mother’s funeral. Now my dad is gone too, and this song reminds me of them and the love and kindness and safety that they provided for my brother and sister and myself. I still miss them every day. I’ve been throughly enjoying your channel. Thank you! Julie 🥰
I am so sorry that you have lost both of your parents. I was a daddy’s girl all of my life, I loved him more than anyone else until I had my son when I was 30. He died in December 2022 in another state in Australia and our stepmother didn’t even tell us where his body was. I was 62 and waking in the night sobbing for him as though I was 5yrs old again. Broke my heart. My mum is still here, lives nearby and is 87 1/2 and doing so well. I was the last one in my friend group from high school to still have both parents until I lost my darling dad.
@ aw, I’m sorry about your dad as well. I’m happy for you still having your mom and that she is near and well. We must enjoy and appreciate our loved ones while we have them. Even at that we never stop missing them once they’re gone. Best wishes to her from an old, orphan. 🥰
Every musician in this band is top shelf. This album is more of a “mood” than their previous stuff but it’s really f*cking good. The album before this is “Operation: Mindcrime”, and it’s similar to a rock opera in that to fully appreciate each song you need to listen from beginning to end because it tells a story. I love “Empire”, but Mindcrime in my old ass humble opinion is possibly one of the best albums ever made- all joking aside.
Yeah, Mindcrime is the gold standard, but Empire was fucking epic. Two very different sounds compositionally, but both hit it out of the park. That takes a lot of versatility.
Queensryche is definitely heavy metal. To get the true range of Geoff's voice, you need to listen to Take Hold of the Flame. This at the end of their concert and he was still shattering glass. Operation Mindcrime is a brilliant concept album.
Quote: "Written by Queensrÿche guitarist Chris DeGarmo (who left the band in 1998), this is a song that deals with a person having a lucid dream. A lucid dream happens when you are aware that you are dreaming, and can control parts of it. DeGarmo got the idea from a book called Creative Dreaming, which explains how to tap into your subconscious mind and make like Leonardo DiCaprio in Inception."
This is a great song, but it is very mellow in comparison to most of their other songs. "Take Hold Of The Flame" or "Queen Of The Reich" will blow you away.
YES take hold live is amazing. Many other awesome songs. Road to madness, anything off operation mindcrime. Side note, keep waiting for some more sunset strip bands like Ratt, dokken and such. Crue was fun but there is alot.more. plus some most haven't heard of but could be turned on to such as Wildside (hair of the dog) or American angel (how can I miss you) fun stuff

Take Hold of The Flame is off The Warning Album and all songs on Operation Mindcrime album. Shows their metal side. You have to listen to the whole album Operation Mindcrime it's like Pink Floyd's album. The Wall, the album, is a story

It can immediately send my blood pressure down and put me in my happy place. The band is outstanding, but this song tops every list. Glad to see a much younger audience enjoy it as well, thank you sir :)

Please don't give up on the band after one track, even though you said you loved this one, there's way more to come! As another commenter here said, please play the entirety of their standout album "Operation Mindcrime" from start to finish to fully appreciate them. My favourite from that album is "Suite Sister Mary" which is an epic track.
OMG, so glad you got to Queensryche. This one is one of their power ballads. Older stuff like Take Hold of the Flame would give you a hint at Geoff Tates range, but if you can, you should do a whole album reaction to Operation Mindcrime.
I had to comment after watching this. I am blown away by your gods honest reaction to this amazingly beautiful song. At one point I swear you were about to burst into tears like so many have done before you. Bravo sir, keep up the good work and keep enjoying great music no matter the genre
Not followed them since Geoff Tate went - this one of my all time favourites - check out the live MTV version with orchestra...beautiful words, beautiful track
A man of exquisite taste, nice one John. Think it was the 1991 MTV Video Awards Show (also featured Metallica playing Sandman and Van Hagar playing Poundcake, if memory serves), sublime rendition of the song and I loved Arsenio Hall's reaction to it, simply "Queensryche.........yeahhhhh!".
Dude! Your reaction is so genuine. Even when you backed it up to hear a second time. Enjoyed the hell out of it. And just so you know, the vocalist is regarded as one of the best rock vocalists of all time.
Geoff Tate is one of my favorite vocalists in rock, along with Brent Smith of Shinedown. This is a ballad but it’s the hit that finally got them recognized.
This is from their album, "Empire", which I consider to be one of the few "perfect" albums I've ever heard. Every song is great, talent is top-notch, and the audio production is superb.
Oh, Queensryche! So many brilliant songs! What a voice! This song has a special place in my heart. Also if you want to treat yourself to some incredible music listen to the album Operation Mindcrime, one of my favourites of all time. It's a concept album, so it makes the most sense to listen to it from beginning to end.
It's great to watch you grow in your listening and music analyzation abilities, your insights are right on, brotha. You have just scratched the surface of the surface. Enjoy the ride and we will enjoy watching it.
Review Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche. It’s a concept album like Rush’s 2112. My favorite album! It will change your life. This is their soft shiz.
This is one of those songs that’s embedded in my soul. It’s so beautiful and has changed in meaning for me over the years so many times, most recently when my mother (who loved this song) passed away. Now when I hear it I feel like it’s her reminding me she’s still watching over me.❤ And please do more. It’s not a one off, but it is a very unique song of theirs. They are metal, but they have another song called “Another Rainy Night” that would be a really great bridge from this into their heavier stuff.
It is so satisfying to watch a young person discovering the music I grew up with. Late 60s through late 90s.....you can't beat it. Musical ability and talent ruled the day. Not computerized sampling and auto-tune. REAL music. And I can't wait for him to discover Take Hold of the Flame. :)
This song came out in 1991. Other songs from that year? Metallica - Enter Sandman Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit Pearl Jam - Alive Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give it Away Alice in Chains - Man in the Box Extreme - More than Words The Scorpions - Winds of Change Guns N Roses - You Could Be Mine Stevie Ray Vaughn - The Sky is Crying I mean, seriously.....just throw a dart at the Billboard Top 40 and you get incredible tunes.
I have watched porobably 25 or many more people react to this song...bro...you are the one who seems to understand the most... further when you die you can, I'd you practice where you want to go before you die, you will become in control of the new life you wanted when you practiced.
Silent lucidity is about being able to dream about whatever you want to; "lucid dreaming." You can teach yourself to guide your dreams before you go to sleep. The music is smooth as silk...
What makes you so precious to me as an older 55 yr old female…is your facial expressions…they are the same ones that we all had in the 80s and 90s when first hearing all these songs. You validate our experience all those years ago…it makes you the perfect reactor…and so we return and watch. Thank you MB!
And this is how you make old school metal heads weep like babies.

I was. Absolutely.

So beautiful song, thank you for your reaction Mollyboy! ❤️🌟🎶 💚 🇸🇪
The whole Operation Mindcrime album, is one of the best concept albums start to finish. They would tour and play the whole album live start to finish.
Power ballad from a metal band. Beautiful and haunting song. Listen to the reigned in power in that voice.
That little strain of go to sleep go to sleep that the cellos play at the very end is quite haunting
I believe that's a snippet of Brahm's Lullaby. Perfect little homage at the end. ❤️
This is from their album, "Empire", which I consider to be one of the few "perfect" albums I've ever heard. Every song is great, talent is top-notch, and the audio production is superb.
Yep
Empire is a great album, but I actually enjoyed Operation Mindcrime even more. It's like comparing gold to gold, though. Amazing!
💯
LOVE this band❤
I support any song you react to. Putting my opinions to the side!! ❤️❤️
It's great to watch you grow in your listening and music analyzation abilities, your insights are right on, brotha. You have just scratched the surface of the surface. Enjoy the ride and we will enjoy watching it.
Masterpiece
"He's got such a soft voice." You need to react to their song TAKE HOLD OF THE FLAME Mollyboy.
Review Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche. It’s a concept album like Rush’s 2112. My favorite album! It will change your life. This is their soft shiz.
That’s one of the few albums I can listen to without ever skipping a track
@ I totally agree, my friend! Epic masterpiece on so many levels. It only gets better and more relevant with time.
I’ve been requesting Mindcrime for quite some time. For me it’s right up there with the Wall and 2112.
@chrisraykovitz2215 perfect from beginning to end!
Eyes of a stranger!!!! Another Rainy night!!
One of the best concerts I've ever seen.
This is one of those songs that’s embedded in my soul. It’s so beautiful and has changed in meaning for me over the years so many times, most recently when my mother (who loved this song) passed away. Now when I hear it I feel like it’s her reminding me she’s still watching over me.❤
And please do more. It’s not a one off, but it is a very unique song of theirs. They are metal, but they have another song called “Another Rainy Night” that would be a really great bridge from this into their heavier stuff.
Great song you will love it.. it reminds me of my father when he passed away this song came out 2 weeks before he passed away 😢
Metallica - Enter Sandman
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Pearl Jam - Alive
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give it Away
Alice in Chains - Man in the Box
Extreme - More than Words
The Scorpions - Winds of Change
Guns N Roses - You Could Be Mine
Stevie Ray Vaughn - The Sky is Crying
I mean, seriously.....just throw a dart at the Billboard Top 40 and you get incredible tunes.
What a masterpiece, I remember the first time I heard this too...☺️
I have watched porobably 25 or many more people react to this song...bro...you are the one who seems to understand the most... further when you die you can, I'd you practice where you want to go before you die, you will become in control of the new life you wanted when you practiced.
Silent lucidity is about being able to dream about whatever you want to; "lucid dreaming." You can teach yourself to guide your dreams before you go to sleep. The music is smooth as silk...
Grandmaster B - Bud Bundy hears a series of notes, overwhelmed by strange thoughts.
Queensryche: Empire
What makes you so precious to me as an older 55 yr old female…is your facial expressions…they are the same ones that we all had in the 80s and 90s when first hearing all these songs. You validate our experience all those years ago…it makes you the perfect reactor…and so we return and watch. Thank you MB!
