Phil Collins considers himself a drummer who can sing a little. He is listed in the top 100 of drummers of all time. The man with the long white beard is, in my opinion, one of the greatest bass players of all time, Mr. Leland Sklar
Leland Sklar's youtube page is a must watch for music geeks ! He has an episode on this song in particular & plenty of other takes of songs he's played on with Phil . I recall the episode where Leyland said if you asked Phil Collins what did he do ? He'd answer "I'm a drummer" 🙂
Yes, Phil played drums in many bands. BrandX, Genesis, The Phil Collins Big Band, ... He also played the drums for many other artists either in studio or as session drummer including Robert Plant, Jethro Tull, Eric Clapton, ... He also played drums at Live Aid for Sting in London, jumped into a concorde, flew to NY, took a copper to Philadelphia to play drums for Led Zeppelin. Just crazy :) His drumming for Brand X is just top notch. Jazz-fusion was his thing. The drumming on "Nuclear Burn" is just crazy: vo7mYqaMKXA This here was one of the rare (or even only?) This concert was filmed about the time I started going to Paris. I wish I would have been there. A lot of the French did not speak English then. And French radio was required to play two songs in French for every song they played in another language. And everyone there wanted to be there and knew the words. Pretty incredible.
I've got to say, the studio version of this song is iconic. I heard it constantly on the radio as I was growing up and loved it every time. Yet this live version is transcendent. Full stop.

No. For truly classic songs by truly great bands with world class instrumentalists, live versions are always better. Live recording you can look up of Genesis, alone, prove it. Zeppelin, Queen, Alice in Chains, Rage Against the Machine, and any number of other great live performers proves it. What you said applies only to pop songs, and In the Air Tonight is definitely a great pop song, and it most certainly applies here.

I have been waiting for this one and it did not disappoint. Phil Collins is the G.O.A.T. There is a personal story from his life in the lyrics of the song to do with his divorce from his first marriage and also he was not a young man when he performed this live show.

Phil Collins is an iconic prog rock drummer and original member of Genesis. When Peter Gabriel left the band Phil took over on vocals. Other musicians you are see is elite studio ace and top hired gun Leland Sklar on Bass (Wizard looking guy) and Chester Thompson on drums who also plays with Genesis as a hired gun to cover drums when Phil goes out front to sing for Genesis.
Leland Sklar and Chester Thompson are one of the best rhythm sections you’re likely to find. Lee Sklar one of the most recorded bass players in music history.
Well, Phil Collins was origin_ally_ a member of Genesis, before this song helped him launch a parallel solo career, but not actually a founder member. Though he would become, by far, the longest-standing and most influential drummer in Genesis, Collins actually had to win an audition, a few years into the group's existence, in August of 1970, to become the _fourth_ drummer in the band's history.
I'm a little old gray haired lady in rural America and I love watching this younger generation falling in love with "my music."

Absolutely, hands down, one of the best live performances of all time!
Singing while drumming?
Karen Carpenter is the GOAT drummer/vocalist.
This why us older ones love our music. The live shows are close to the album versiins only better!🥰🥰
This one is Awesome.. Another great Live song with Phil is "Against All Odds" Live in Berlin.. Phil`s voice + feeling is something else!!
😁🎉 Im so glad you did this live one Molly!
You will never be able to NOT air drum to this classic!! 😁 Welcome to the club! 😂🥁
Great reaction!
Dude... i genuinely love your reaction, love the facial expressions and your openess to listen to different types of music
It makes me really happy to see the younger generations discovering the talented Phil Collins. I had the joy of seeing Genesis and solo Phil Collins in concerts
I have been waiting for this one and it did not disappoint. Phil Collins is the G.O.A.T. There is a personal story from his life in the lyrics of the song to do with his divorce from his first marriage and also he was not a young man when he performed this live show.
This is arguably the best live performance I’ve ever experienced. Well, experienced is not the correct word because I was not there!
When you have a List...BEST of the BEST... is Phil Collins one of the them. NO one will overbeaten him ever.
I’ve been waiting for this one ❤ I saw them in ‘82, I was 15… 😊 huge fan. This is one of my favourite songs. Saw them again last year for the Domino tour, so sad to see Phil leave the stage with a cane and trying to catch up to the other two ❤ thank you for this reaction.. over 40 years later, I’ve got goose bumps still and am tearing! 🎉
The whole video is..wait for it.....then BAM! Awesome song!! Excited to see this reaction.
still remember it like yesterday hearing this for the very first time back in the day watching a tv episode of Miami Vice watching Crockett and Tubs driving a Ferrari Daytona Spyder through Miami late at night with this song which was just pure atmospheric beauty
Phil the legend Collins, you made my night, thankyou😊
I do love watching the younger generation react to the music I grew up with.
Re Phil he once said he is a drummer who can sing a little!!
Phil Collins is Drummer Bro...when Peter Gabriel Leaved the band He was the man to sing all Songs for genisis ❤❤❤😊
Yes, they went through hundreds of additions before they realized the best man for the job of lead singer for Genesis was actually their drummer Phil Collins.
I don’t know what I enjoy more, Phil or you being blown away by his performance. 😊 I’m so glad you are enjoying music from my era. I’m 65 and enjoy watching your reaction videos! ❤
Whenever you see Grannie driving down the road Playing her Air Drums you know what she’s listening to ; )
I have beat up a lot of steering wheels listening g to this song!! 😂😂😂
ICONIC and utterly brilliant song the man is a genius

Singing? Whilst drumming? Yes!!
Love the simple walk
Phil Collins is immensely talented probably in the top 10 singer-songwriter performers of all time
Definitely do more Phil Collins or his band Genesis
Phil Collins is a complete icon .. dude just sweats cool
I’m also stoked to see our younger generation watching and enjoying Muzak from the early eras I grew up in the seventies and eighties here in Chicago Illinois 👋 😎 Rock On Molly Boy and all of you tubers entertaining us with your awesome reactions to incredible music!!😎🤙🏼
Not knowing the lyrics has never stopped me from singing!
I was a young man when this song came out. Now I'm 65 and I get a huge smile to see you, a young man, expressing the same WTF just happened smile on your face, hearing this classic song for the first time! Love your channel Bro!
Phill Collins 🥰, is a journey you need to to go on 🤗
Now that's how you open the show
