For such a small and affordable car it did very very well. In Europe you hardly get a motorcycle for that money with nearly no protection at all. Thanks BYD. Thanks Seagull. You are very welcome here in Europe
“Did very well”? Are you joking? No the dash coming flying towards you or the pilars / roof being ripped open deforming the pilar. Structure is very poor.

A 40% overlap of a smaller in width car results in missing the rigid structure at the trailer. Actually part of the energy has to be absorbed there but due to the tiny ovelap just a small wing at the trailer end was hit (visible after 0:13 m) and the car went in full speed under the trailer which resulted in the torn upper part. Don't think it is fair to have the percentage overlap of 1,60 m widee car against 2.00m wide ones if this is decisive for the upper part of the vehicle. What is the rating for a 40% overlap against a barrier compared to other cars?
No car would survive this crash where the A pillar takes the force of the entire crash. Only way to pass this test is to have a very low seated position where the front pansenger head is lower than the truck chassis, like in a super car.
For 10 grand, nobody could expect more. As a city car, it’s still great. At highway speeds, it may be more risky, but in a car like that you drive more carefully like in any small car.
The steering wheel moves upward, which would be a serious problem if the driver was a shorter person. Because when you're shorter, you sit closer to the steering wheel. Footwell area is also very bad. December 17, 2024 11:46AM
As this test is a Chinese specification test, with reality tested in a way totally unmatched in the West, it really challenges the notion that Western standards are leading the world. I saw a video of the Tesla model 3 perform this test - absolutely amazing. The model 3 sort of slid under, but the roof didn't break as it does here. I wonder if the roof could be made stronger and the suspension made to break? Dont know if it would be an improvement I am no engineer.
@gwsheipang oh that is interesting. I am in Australia and our standard crash test is heavily influenced by the European standard. There is no test which is offset with the protruding metalwork as you get on the back of a truck, in the ancap test.
So all the other crash test are done on a flat and oncoming vehicle to test crumble zones, but this one is testing against the guard rail of a lorry / truck, hmm
They did the same test with a Range Rover, the results is exactly the same, non survivable for the front passenger. No A pillar is strong enough to absorb the force of the crash into a truck

just about the most difficult test from an occupant safety perspective... My main takeaway is lower cars have a better chance of survival because the angle of impact against the A pillar is less extreme (and better chance of sliding under the truck instead of getting the car ripped open by that corner).

@@888YangJi I honestly don’t care. She remains still a coffin. This reminds me the small overlap tests made by NHTSA: they were done on the driving side.
