Superb "real world" test. Applaud the Bravery of DCAR to take on this challenge! No doubt making some strong angry management at the Auto Companies around the world,
It seems the conclusion of this test is that if big trucks and passenger cars have to share the same roads a redesign or reinforcement of the rear crash structure on large trucks to work with passengers cars would be easier than to redesign all passenger cars?
@@older12000or may be a rearward protruding energy absorbing bumper which will give space and energy absorption before A pillar hits to rigid corner of the truck
@@TANOCA17 commercial vehicles, even some containers, may need to back up to a dock to unload. This means that the back must be vertically flat and cannot have any reactive features of their own.
The Maybach/S class B pillar survived because it was so long the front crash structure struck the rear wheels of the trailer before the B-pillar could come into contact with the trailer (which in the real world may be a factor, but is not indicative of the strength of the B-pillar).
We should note that the support rigidity on both sides of the truck's rear anti-collision beam is obviously insufficient. When it collides with the vehicle behind it, it breaks directly without absorbing enough impact kinetic energy. As a result, the rear A-pillar was inserted directly into the truck chassis. The engine compartment of the rear car was not fully folded to absorb the impact energy. So truck rear bumper regulations must be changed.
well, that's the reality for people outside the US. underride safety is not strict in some Asian countries (China, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc) unlike in the US which is really strict, its pretty common sight of trucks or trailers that dont have an underride guard at all.
IIHS did a demonstration on this a long time ago but I don't think there was a government mandate, so many trailers may still have this sort of rear crash guard.
@@hyrenaj2888 Since IIHS test bunch of underride guards, the trailer manufacturer make the guard stronger so it passed IIHS test. IIHS publicly shared the result so the manufacturer can feel ashamed about the results and yes they did feel ashamed so they made the guard stronger. But here in asia, none of those happen. If you rear end a trailer in the US, i think you will have a chance to survive, but in here you will hit straight to heaven 😶

I find it very nice and efficient from the car crash company and you guys that you respect every car brand aswell as you see them all in a neutral perspective. 🎉
Thank you so much for performing this kind of crash test. So know we all know that, the most fragile part of car structure is in A-B pillar and front beam of the roof. When the pillars and beam collapses, it will directly hit our head and causing fatal death. That is really concerning. I think manufacturers must find a solution and do internal test like this immediately. This kind of test should be standard in the world.
This is what the auto industry needs. Usually i tend to hate on the Chinese automotive industry due to their poorly designed and built cars. But this is just next level. This should be a standard test for all cars. Congratulations
They’re definitely improving and very impressive considering how they already almost leveled themselves with brands of other countries that’s been around for much longer
You've done an amazing job with this video! The dedication to providing us with such detailed and informative content is truly commendable. Keep up the fantastic work, it's clear that a lot of time, effort, and money goes into making your channel so educational and entertaining.
Great video and kudos on the effort.both the tests and the video production !! Given most new cars have AEB , how’s that factored into the test ? Do you turn it off ? Maybe AEB systems mean structures can be made lighter and as a consequence weaker ..as they are not expecting to run into the back of a truck like this ? Or at the very least not without a level of braking and all safety systems at high alert ?
This is a side effect of manufacturers designing cars to excel in very specific crash tests while not considering the wide variety of other forces a vehicle can encounter. So many of these vehicles have extremely thin A-pillars because that simply is never tested in standard tests. On the other hand it seems like these rear crash bars on trucks need significant improvements. There's so much space and weight that can be used to create a much safer crumple zone and dissipate energy
Brilliant test, I hope you can continue to innovate in safety testing (highway speed crashes like 120 km/h would be very interesting because most of our miles are driven at highway speed). Can you also test the Tesla Model Y (best selling car in the world in 2023) and the Toyota RAV4 and Corolla (former best selling vehicle) against the 40-ton truck?
it is not passenger cars that must be developed to be safer, but the REAR of the truck must be FULL to the bottom, there should be no iron bars hanging behind the truck which can be a source of problems. I don't know what the government and TRUCK and trailer developers are thinking. Why not make a regulation so that the rear of the truck must be full to the bottom so that it is safe for other drivers.
If they lower the trailer they also have to lower the truck so the truck can tow it.But the problem is that if they lower everything the truck has to be smaller and the wheels too.If the truck is small it has less power but since it also has smaller tyres it has less grip
Thanks for your immens efforts!! The amount of preparation works is insane. Probably a few months of work. The main conclusion is clear, very few cars can withstand such rear-ending of a truck. It will make manufacturers have to improve crash absorption and A-pillar designs...
