Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?
Bryan Garris said on a podcast that he got the name for the album from an older woman sitting next to him on a flight, they were going through turbulence and he has a fear of flying so he was very clearly nervous, so she spent the rest of the flight talking to him to distract him from it and at one point when he mentioned that he didn’t do well on planes she told him “You won’t go before you’re supposed to”
Coolest shit I've ever heard

With how Knocked Loose has handled their popularity and answering it via getting even MORE aggressive and heavy to their beatdown roots, they truly are a case study. Fucking love this thing and love this band. Stoked to see even more exposure; I truly do believe this review will end up being very important.
The smile I got when Bryan said on an interview with Nik Nocturnal that the more popular they get the more heavy they plan to get. And I don't think we've hit peak KL yet.
I’ve been seeing them live for almost 4 years now, and it doesn’t matter if they’re on the biggest or smallest stage; they always put on the same level of intensity every show

Listening to this album and listening back to their previous efforts (Laugh Tracks, A Different Shade of Blue), it's clear that their sound has become solidified and reinforced masterfully. It isn't just heavy. It's monolithic and savage. Knocked Loose dares to keep their edge despite modern metalcore's insistence to become poppier and more sterile year by year.
yes, modern metalcore is so overproduced and clean and poppy, this has been so refreshing
Well said.

A 9 for a metalcore album is crazy. Nature is healing. I personally preferred A Tear in the Fabric of Life but this was definitely the more boundary-pushing album.
Same, I enjoyed Tear more, but this album has quite a few of good songs too
yes, a tear in the fabric of life is literally a 10/10 from me. couldnt be better. this one is straight up a 9/10, but only because it doesnt have the continuous story element that atitfol had. i think thats my biggest critique. and if thats the only thing i miss, damn. thats a good album.

The blast beats on that song are wild
I swear to God I was scrambling to pull my phone out of my pocket to turn it down because the opening explosion scared me so thoroughly. Did not expect that even from this band.
Yeah not a great take. If I had to pick a least favourite on the album it would probably be piece by piece.
As a song, I could see how it would be lacking for some. It’s not really one I see myself bumpin on its own too much, at least not atm. But as an intro in context of the album? It’s perfect. And just in general the cohesion and tightness of the experience is something I’m really impressed by.

As far as the radio friendly metalcore of the 2010s goes, Motionless In White are one of the few bands from that era I still listen to in 2024. That man Chris can SCREAM and their riffs are crazy. Hearing them work so closely with Knocked Loose made me so happy.
Babe wake up. The Melon reviewed Knocked Loose
10/10 album, no skips for me! So far the best album that has come out this year! IMO
Glad to see genuine OG metalcore getting mainstream attention. This band has come a very long way. Proof that bands can stick with an abrasive sound and still make it big.

Good thing bands like KL and Jesus Piece are getting the original style of the genre back in the frame.

My jaw actually dropped at the score. KL does it again
KL is about to get so much unnecessary hate from the metal community because people outside the scene like them 🙃
I already see them getting hate cause people don’t like Bryan’s vocals but I appreciate them for being unique and sounding pissed off as hell
3 weeks later, yeah, I still don't get it. The last EP, the Upon Loss singles, most of their discog rly is better than most of this album. Half the songs here feel like filler.
This whole album was pure ignorance and genuinely one of the best albums I've ever heard. Nuff said.
Time to replace that Code Orange shirt with a Knocked Loose shirt since CO sucks now
I think them being the heavy band for Coachella and Bonnaroo with great audience feedback is the best thing for them. They’re getting that recognition and those people are going to their friends talking bout “look how heavy this band is” and knocked loose is going to be expected to go harder with each release
Album of the year so far. From concept to production, everything is near-perfect. Their boldest and most coherent project yet.
Trying to get into this album, not much of a metalcore fan but I really like the textures & instrumental pallets. I also like Sunbather (I know I’m a newbie) but the vocals do throw me off a bit for some reason. Any other albums like this you could recommend to get into it?

he would have given it a 10 if it was named "you won't get what you're supposed to"
the ambiance parts of this feel like something that has been lost to time. this album was clearly meant to be an experience and they fucking nailed it.
The good thing about Fantano never reviewing this kind of music is that when he gives it a good review I know I'm in for something special.
I wonder if the addition of the upon loss singles would have pushed this to a 10/10
They don’t really fit thematically though. They wrote those tracks specifically because they were performing at Coachella
@@twentyeightstudio What is the theme? Fantano is saying it's all about religion but it's not necessarily. There is no one theme. The theme is the music. If they snuck the Upon Loss singles on here, it's a fuckin 10. It's one of the best metalcore records of all time.
That's not to say they should have done it, but it is to say they were that good and their fans would have been down with it.
Edit: I will say the only thematic miss would be "Knocked Loose, motherfucker," which just lyrically would have taken Bryan's severe tone down half a step, but still would have been rad as shit even out of context. They could've licked the stamp and sent it.
This record is a future classic for the genre. The level of experimentation and chemistry KL has rn is unreal and I look forward to what they put out next if they continue performing at this level.
i jusy listened to it from front to back and damn, i was blown away by sheer intensity of this album. a deserved 9
The way I can tell an album is really fucking good is when I'm immediately excited to hear what they do on their next album. I feel like there's still so much more they can do with their sound beyond keeping it heavy and I badly want to see where they take it from here.
Maybe this will finally mark a new shift in the metalcore landscape after hearing every band rip off BMTH’s Sempiternal for the last 10 years.
Would’ve given it a 10/10 if it was called “you would go on a timely manner”

Would love to hear you on the new Greyhaven and ERRA stuff but seems unlikely at this point
He hates djenty stuff so definitely no Erra, but possible Greyhaven. Their new EP was amazing
Saw them in Houston the other day & man.. the live performance is even more punishing & heavy. I was in front of the soundboard, as in center as I could be, & the stage production alone was really great. The themes throughout the record on the stage itself & the light-work implemented throughout the set really elevated the heavier moments. The crowd was non-stop for 89% of the set. They were giving it their all in the pit. The directives emplaced by Bryan & Isaac to do ___ at this moment in a song or do ___ was helpful in keeping the energy up. Seeing all types of people (aesthetics wise) being present at the show & being in the pit was a nice sight too. in my opinion, KL really is becoming like Turnstile in the sense that their overall popularity & reach is going into other corners of the music sphere. Bringing in more fans & really opening them up to the heavy music world.
The weird thing about the live show aspect VS the studio album, for me, is the fact that I've always felt that some, if not, half of KL's discography sounds very similar or "samey". With the singles being the outliers & having more memorable moments in my opinion, everything else just sort of blurs into one & other.
I'll have to revisit the record again & really pay more attention to it. It does sound great to Anthony's point/observation. There is definitely a lot more experimentation & heaviness included on this record that cannot be denied.
Personally I love A Different Shade of Blue even more but I do love to see the lads getting their deserved recognition!
I think ' a tear in the fabric of life' was peak knocked loose
Same ADSOB will always be my favorite KL album
The Gospel for me but a tear in a fabric is close too
I still think Daughters - You Won’t Get What You Want has a more horrific, oppressive darkness to it to the point where it feel like it exudes evil. Don’t get me wrong tho, this album goes so fucking hard. It is such a perfect metalcore album.
Fair enough but what does YWGWYW have to do with this
The rise of popularity of Knocked Loose are clear times the apocalypse is upon us. The singer is just too much for my ears to handle.
Also, do attend a gig from these guys. Jaw dropping heavy
If you want some more amazing modern metal music, definitely check out the album Death Is Little More by Boundaries or Symptoms of Survival by Dying Wish! Definitely my favorite finds this year
Great! Now do Ashen - Humanity's Last Breath
Honestly KL joins the pantheon of "makes constant heaviness and/or dissonance interesting" with this album, along with HLB and Disfiguring the Goddess
They are the hardcore standard bearer now. It's weird to see them rise meteorically from just a few years ago, when they were still playing church basements and stuff.
if this was called you wont get pimped before the butterfly you would have given this a 10
The sound of the snare drum almost killed me when i decided to listen this record on the evening walk
What a great record!! Can’t wait to listen again, and again, and again……
I honestly believe Knocked Loose’s songs are the angriest songs I’ve ever heard. It is heavy, but it isn’t just heavy for the sake of it, it is BRUTAL
i completely disagree. knocked loose to me sounds exactly like a band that just tries to be heavy for the sake of it which in turn just makes them not sound heavy at all. same as bands like lorna shore and slaughter to prevail
@@martiijn That’s fair, they detune their guitars ultra low, which is something I love but I agree that it is cheap. But since the day I posted this comment I’ve listened exclusively to this album, I’m not joking. Im a drummer, so I basically just listen to the rhythm section, their drummer mixes various different kinds of rhythms that make it sound diverse and heavy, it’s not a 30 minute blast beat torture session. That and the entire album is mixed perfectly to my liking, the drum sounds are clear and there is so many moments I stop what I’m doing to listen to it. I don’t think it is fair to compare them to Lorna shore, vocally, because knocked loose vocalist doesn’t just make noises to sound like a pig, actually i think he’s capable of so much more, but he doesn’t just use all of his vocal techniques because it would be boring. I know this album is not for everyone, but I fucking loved it lmao
I’m intrigued and admit I haven’t checked them out before. Now that I’ve learned they’re from Louisville, I’m eager to listen for any possible post-hardcore Louisville influences. Sick.

When is Lemon Twigs??? I don't even like them that much but I wanna post a comment on the review saying that I don't understand the hype. WHERE'S THE REVIEW???
Bro just gave up on holding onto that comment lol
This album has completely made my year, I haven’t been able to stop listening. I’ve been a huge Knocked Loose fan since Pop Culture but this one takes the cake as being brutal and chaotic to the highest degree. They really took it to a level I didn’t know existed with this one. The singles being released before the full album were good, but Moss Covers All, Take Me Home, The Calm That Keeps You Awake, these songs are some of the most unique and developed songs I’ve heard from them, somehow taking their wholly distinct sound and blending it with just the right amount of experimentation and inspiration from genres of music you could have never seen being paired with metalcore. Overall this is by far the most interesting album I’ve heard this year, and I don’t see that changing any time soon.
He called it an album instead of a record damn fantano really fell off
Being from Kentucky this makes me so proud. This album and Band is Fuckin Amazing.
The amount of glazing this band gets is insane. I don’t see this amount of admiration for bands that, imo, do their metalcore sound a lot better, like Kublai Khan or Varials for example.
