Here's my hack: most of my summer clothes are linen or cotton, you can't do polyester in the hot Mediterranean climate. A trick I use to keep them wrinkle free in the suitcase is to put tissue paper (also called wrapping tissue or silk tissue paper in other places of the world) in between when folding them. It's the paper your clothes come wrapped in when ordering online most of the time. Don't throw it away - it really keeps even the finest garments wrinkle-free, even in your drawers.

    • @mkox
      @mkox ปีที่แล้ว +34

@@JulesTomasi I find them too bulky and heavy for a carry-on. Maybe there's an ultra portable version I'm not aware of, would love to read some suggestions. It's definitely better if space and weight is not an issue, but I would still use tissue paper for fabrics like silk, linen and viscose to prevent deep creases.

I went on a 10-day trip overseas with just a mid-size luggage and a personal bag. Anna is spot on that this is much less stressful with advance planning, packing cubes, and lists. I knew my itinerary and had planned my travel wardrobe such that I did not repeat an outfit and only did laundry at one stop during the trip. Since I knew what our activity was for the next day, I assembled my outfit the night before and was ready quickly in the morning for the tour. While everyone else was wearing leggings and a sweatshirt, I felt more comfortable in a more thoughtful outfit.

If you hate to iron…get a garment bag, ask your dry cleaner for plastic dry cleaner bags. Place each item you are packing by itself inside a plastic dry cleaner bag. Use the thinnest hangers you have. Place a big rubber band around the hangers when you are finished. Place inside your garment bag. When you get to your destination, you won’t have to iron a thing! YAY! Also, to unpack, you just hang up everything in your hotel closet. No need to place on hotel hangers! I’m an International Airline Stewardess. Just saying.

Minimalist packing is one of the best thing happens here on YT in my opinion. I think it's easier to look neutral or classic during traveling by wearing repeated outfits than packing lots of options. The more options I can choose the less experience I'd enjoy because I can be so indecisive. Sure you need your statement pieces that can elevate your look and it's all about finding the tricks. Although I'm not an extreme one, minimalism does help me to find the right balance between style and fulfilling experience.

Thank you. I have found that when going thru Airport or train station security the more elegant or thoughtfully packed I am, the less my bags are opened and inspected by security (and everyone else).
I have found that I prefer a Toiletry bag I can hang up. It leaves more space on the counter and keeps items from rolling off the counter. While most bathrooms do not have enough hooks I can hang the bag from the towel rack (and if there is a toilet rack up high it is usually high enough so I do not have to bend over to get anything out of the bag). I also prefer to have feet on my toiletry bag (in case there is water on the counter).

Very sound and practical advice. I wish I would have thought of those things when I was younger and used to travel up and down Europe and the States for 15 years. My mother´s principle was that a well-brought-up young lady must never leave the house or the hotel looking untidy, and always needs to carry extra clothing with her in case the weather suddenly gets hot or cold. Needless to say, steamers did not exist back then. I bought a small travel iron, which started steaming when salt and water were added into a tiny compartment inside it. I followed her advice and used to travel with 2 large suitcases and a carry-on. Total weight appr. 40 to 50 kg. Only once I was forced to pay for extra luggage. - These days I travel with a carry-on only and find traveling so much easier and more fun.

For toiletry bags, I always seem to end up using the disposible ziploc bags as they are so thin and lightweight. I spent a lot on toiletry bags and ebags and pouches etc. And they end adding way too much bulk and weight. I know some may frown down on them and not like using plastic, but this has worked the best for me.

I recommend using a soft shell carry-on bag because it’s easier to fit in the overhead bin, you can fit more, lighter in weight, and is able to adapt to something that may be a different shape. It is also more durable as hard shell can get poked by other luggage, chip, or crack. A few friends of mine are flight attendants, and I also regularly travel for work and pleasure.

I only take 2 'bottoms', 3 tops (6 outfits), 2 bras, 3 prs knickers, 2 pr shoes (walking and flip flops for evening!), pashmina, shampoo in small container that also use as soap, toothpaste in small tube, battery toothbrush, basis make up and creams, medication. If room a sarong that can double as turban and shawl. My tip is never that pyjamas - instead take an old top and pair of pull on trousers in a natural fibre that can, if needed double as daywear.

You are a girl after my own heart. I've done mostly cycling and biking trips using panniers and backpacks with all my stuff packed into dry bags for both types of travel. Less is more as you have physically carry all your stuff all the time. Lists for all categories is crucial. I like using ziploc bags to individualize my stuff in my clear toiletry bag(s) and keep it clean too. It has worked out well. Less can be great!

I first make out a list (down to shoes, undergarments, jewelry) of every outfitIfor EACH day. Then I pull together everything I listed and then start packing. I begin about a week before my departure. If it’s a short trip (4 days or shorter)) I try to pack everything in one or two carryons. Then I experiment fitting everything and if it doesn’t fit then I start to figure which items are essential and which are not that important and can be eliminated. Taking the time to plan is key. If you do it a day before you will probably forget something so give it at least a week.

Anna, I have always packed with the dress only technique when traveling to a resort to enjoy the beach. For trips during fall and /or winter I have pieces in neutral colors that even with no effort will go together. I always fail at packing “just necessary” shoes & hand bags🤦🏻‍♀️. Yes, I always check in my stuff and have a small bag with me that I carry jewelry and handbags. The hats… 🥺 I always mess them up!

Great advice. It might be good to bring an extra suitcase lock if you are travelling abroad because at some country ports like Australia your lock will be broken because they search every suitcase and break the lock if it doesn't have the customs keyhole on it for them to open it.

If you are looking for a hardsided, clear toiletry case, you could try searching for clear plastic storage containers and/or pencil boxes. They are many kinds of containers that would hold toileties even though they aren't marketed for that use.
I'm not sure if having toiletries in a pencil box is classy, but it would be effective.

Regarding the toiletry bag. I found one on Amazon, comes in different colors and it’s great. It is collapsible, it has a hook inside so once you open it up there are multiple sections and it is clear so you can see everything inside. Super convenient.
You just open it, hang it up and once you’re done you don’t have to pack everything up again. You just fold it back together and you’re done. You have the advantages of see through without the dirty, cheap look since it’s only see through once you open it.

My hack is that I have a 100 copies of a master packing list that is permanently in a small leather bound notebook in my carry-on. Each entry page has room for me to add specific items to each trip as needed. Retaining these lists makes it easier when I take similar trips because I can look back to see any additions and changes that I made the last time I went on that type of travel. I rarely forget anything important now. It took approximately 2 hours ( not all at once) to set up initially but has saved countless hours since then.

I love carryon! In February my husband and I went to South America for 8 weeks. We absolutely loved it. Since COVID-19 we have been traveling with only a carryon. In Europe the airports have been chaotic regarding check-in luggages.

    Good morning dear elegant ladies,
I will be going for almost 2 weeks on the country side this summer and I want to know what to pack. What do you ladies suggest? There will be some gardening things to do and other things around the house. Should I just wear leggings and t-shirts or sweat shirts? What would you wear when helping repair a fence and other household activities? I obviously won't be able to wear dresses 😅.
What about shoes ? Should I wear only sneakers? boots?
Thank you in advance for your ideas and suggestions ❤️
