I saw them in concert 10 days after the Bataclan attacks. I had made a sign with Elan's words "Come to life, open mind, have a laugh at the orthodox". I put the sign up right when Floor was singing it. She gave me a thumbs up and so did Emppu, Troy and Marko (Tuomas and Kai couldn't see me). Floor came back to me during the chorus for another thumbs up.
Everyone around me was wondering what on earth I had written on my sign to get all these reactions from the band. 😂
But I knew I had written it regarding the attacks and I think they understood it that way. It was a nice connecting moment which suited the song quite well.

For real, Elan and The Greatest Show reminded me how much beauty there is in life and they give you just that necessary little push to remember the positivity around
Well, if you think about it: elan does mean vigor, dash, spirit, or, if you will, inner strength. The text itself also talks about good things. "Come to Life" "Travel with great élan" etc. It is an uplifting title, text and melody.
Anyway, I am glad for you, that this song helped you overcome that devil called depression. I've been there, too, couple of years ago.

Tuomas must really love piano intros because a LOT of Nightwish songs begin exactly like this. To me it's reminiscent of Nemo, but only because both begin with piano (as does Greatest Show on Earth, but it was written after these two). Oh. and because for me Nemo was the first song I've ever heard from Nightwish and Elan was the first song I've heard that was written with Floor's voice in mind as the new vocalist.
This is easily one of my favorite Nightwish songs.

When I finally graduated off my trainer’s truck and was assigned my own, I was scared ****less as it was my first time solo among other things. This was on the stereo.
When I’ve been out doing something new on my motorcycle, this was in my earbuds.

This is it! The first song that ever literally made me tear up at a live performance. I lost it at the final chorus.

Elan is one of my favourite Nightwish song. The build up to the chorus always, instinctively, makes me take a deeper breath. As if a gust of fresh air hit me. Every damn time, man.
There are also a number of very nice drum cam videos of a Nightwish concert, including Elan. Quite nice to watch him having fun behind his kit and hear (a muffled) Nightwish from a different perspective.

What happens at the 10:13 ish mark with Kai, is that something Empu or Marco did(forgive me if I butchered their names) I am a fledgling Nightwish follower. Love that comradery with this band
I had tickets for December 12 in Vienna, but now it has been moved to May 17. I cannot wait to see them. I have been a fan for over 6 years. They were the first metal band I fell in love with. I am hoping the concerts will be possible by May

You're correct with both Troy and Marko doing backing vocals in the chorus! Marko is sustaining those long notes you hear, while Troy is singing the main melody, an octave below Floor. :) They do the same on the studio version. Love this tune, it's such an uplifting piece! I share your appreciation of Troy too - I don't think there's anything that man can't play! Watch him bring something crazy like a hurdy-gurdy into the band next. Wouldn't surprise me!

The one thing that strikes me through all of these songs is how graceful Floor is in all her movements. Such a classic line she has. Seems a bit atypical for a woman of her stature. And you're correct - they create an experience that's unequalled.

Did you catch the lyrical line “meet me where the cliff greets the sea” it is referenced in How’s The Heart, one of the lines in the second verse of that song is “we met where the cliff greets the sea” cool little Easter egg from Tuomas!

I think it is actually (in both cases a reference) to Floor meeting her husband...
Just like in How's the heart the verse "now there's one who came from me" is meant to be Floor's daughter.
Toumas puts several such references for the band members into the songs
It also makes me think of The Islander, especially in the video, where the old man says farewell to the world.

They have a song for every mood you're in, or would like to be in😁 Your's an empty hope and Weak fantasy when i've had a stressfull day at work. Elan and I want my tears back for some fun. While the lips are still red, Dead boys poem or the islander for some restfull moments . And all there other songs i can listen to alday long.
Another on point reaction, a simple, basic song that just makes you feel good because as you say, they are just doing the dam thing! Love Elan!!
