An excellent question Ben. Reg 514.12.1 requires the inspection and testing label to be affixed, and any new installation or retrofit consumer unit shouldn't be going live without full inspection and testing of all final circuits, but that label is, in my opinion, woefully unfit for purpose as it only requires inspection dates, not an installer ID or certificate/report reference number which my stickers also include. Yeah, but these pop up just outside the front door so it's only a few metres. Nothing that would make an installer think volt drop or ease of installation were factors. I suspect one is for car charging and the other for external power as the homeowner mentioned maybe putting in a pond.
The trouble with that is I've not met the client before, and as far as they're concerned, their electrical installation is buzzing away seemingly without issue. If I turn up for some minor jobs and proceed to tell 'em the whole board should be changed even though it's all only about ten years old, they'll likely think I'm just trying it on. I can explain the problems with this set-up to them, and you and I know what a better solution would be, but it's a tough sale to get them to agree to the guts being pulled out and replaced.
@@dsesuk a very thought out reply. Thank you for taking the time. The 2 rcd rule on one installation looks so short sighted now, but back in the day it seemed a logical approach.
David when you do a job like that where stuffs gettin relocated and losing sockets in the floor and whatever,do you need a full set of test results once its done even though your only moving what was already there if that makes sense
If it's just basic moves and changes then a minor works cert will suffice. Don't forget that the 18th Edition MW asks for data that the old one didn't such as ring continuity end to end and Ze, so with those plus the local circuit impedance (R1+R2 and/or Zs) and IR, then even a MW will require full testing results.

I’ve also found (irrespective of the gender of the person calling) if you probe them and ask what pants they are wearing they also seem to hang up rather sharply and don’t seem to bother you again? 🤷🏼♂️ 🤣
I'm suspecting what you have there, given that it's on a main RCD, and that it's a newish install.... someone misidentified the 2.5's....I'd be fairly confident that if you checked from those 'open' legs to the main neutral bar, you'd find it....
Two individual spurs branches, yes. Appendix 6 doesn't limit the number of spur branches you can take from a junction point, although with any junction it would only be physically possible to take a couple off it. I'm not saying it's great practice, but it's not ruled out.
It's a shame to see something so flash coming out, but to be fair, under the hood it wasn't so good. A lot of it was never plumbed in properly, so was water damaged and leaking. We won't be replacing the consumer units, we'll uprate the RCD's, but our duties there are otherwise minor alterations, moving and adding accessories to existing circuits.
I get told off however I pronounce it, but I think I saw on the eFixx channel where they asked the lady from Wago for the answer and she confirmed it as Vago as they're German!

The one I've started using is called Hiya. Not had it long, but it's coming in useful!
For a builders job, that was a neat job!! Great video with a good explanation of your reasons and testing experience.
It looked neat, but there are problems under the bonnet.
Indeed. Were you not tempted to advise RCBOs instead of the 100a RCCB?
Hahahahhaha mate your videos crack me up. Nice phone call. If you are ever working near Huntingdon and need an extra pair of hands for the day let me know 👍
Any video about how to install ryfield would be great.
Thanks
I don't get to play with such in my line of work, more's the pity as it would be an interesting subject. I'll keep an eye out for any such opportunity in the future though!
In tears at that phone call 😭😂👌
So was she, hopefully. I imagine however that she just moved on to trying to scam someone else.
😂😂😂😂 that’s one way to tell them
I remember having a similar call when fitting a Wyse box for a water feature pump and having the designer 👩🎨 🙄moan about it’s position and having to crawl through bushes to hide it’s “Unaesthetic features” that would ruin the ambience of the garden ✊🏻💦 (Having already fitted it once) and receiving said call from accident scammers who asked how I was a good “I’d be much better if you fucked off and left me alone” Funnily enough they did! I’ve also found (irrespective of the gender of the person calling) if you probe them and ask what pants they are wearing they also seem to hang up rather sharply and don’t seem to bother you again? 🤷🏼♂️ 🤣
Haha! I shall probe them around their undergarments next time!
Absolutely Brilliant, in tears, funniest video yet! Feels like one of our jobs, absolutely gas...... Magnetech Solid Solutions Ltd
Thanks Noel.
Nige has got a nasty gash at 12:21. Did you fill out an accident form?
There's no way I'm documenting that thing in writing.
I'm suspecting what you have there, given that it's on a main RCD, and that it's a newish install.... someone misidentified the 2.5's....I'd be fairly confident that if you checked from those 'open' legs to the main neutral bar, you'd find it....
David and nigel you both do fantastic job and for your business and customers fare play to you both
What size is that main switch and RCD 100A/2x40?
Fuse and main switch are 100A
@@dsesuk Good morning and the RCD 2x40A x63A ?
I was just wondering what was protecting the RCDs are they 100A RCDs ?
Two spurs from one JB sir?
Two individual spurs branches, yes. Appendix 6 doesn't limit the number of spur branches you can take from a junction point, although with any junction it would only be physically possible to take a couple off it. I'm not saying it's great practice, but it's not ruled out.
Anybody ever said your telephone manors are impeccable 😂😂 also you can’t let Franky Boyle knowingly drink that shit from Cef
That brown liquid comes straight from the toilets.
Can't believe someone would be ripping that place apart! What kind of fuseboard are you going to fit the to replace it? 3 boards?
It's a shame to see something so flash coming out, but to be fair, under the hood it wasn't so good. A lot of it was never plumbed in properly, so was water damaged and leaking. We won't be replacing the consumer units, we'll uprate the RCD's, but our duties there are otherwise minor alterations, moving and adding accessories to existing circuits.
What size were the mains to that property ?
100A single phase

Vago boxes? Do you transport them in a Wolksvagen? 😛
I get told off however I pronounce it, but I think I saw on the eFixx channel where they asked the lady from Wago for the answer and she confirmed it as Vago as they're German!
So was Sgt Schultz, by vee don't all talk like him, ja. 😛
No, it's a Vord - as seen on steering wheel.
@@dsesuk that's correct
‘vago’ is correct for Denglisch pronunciation of Wago 😁👍 🇩🇪
Hi dave can you use 221 wagos in the mf joint boxes??
He Steven. I saw CJR's video on that one too! Chris is right in that the current Wagobox instructions don't list the 221's, but I don't know if it's just out of date. I've just tweeted Wago and Connexbox, so we'll see what they say!
From the horses mouth: Our Wagobox 221 series adapters should be used when using @WAGOLimited 221 4 series connectors with the WAGOBOX or WAGOBOX XLA to ensure compliance with BS EN 60670-22. Our new WAGOBOX 221-4 is specifically for 221 4 series connectors. There's a PDF on it here: www.wago.ltd.uk/media/wago_ltd_uk/product/enclosures/wagobox_inserts.pdf

Thanks dave, I think it need a informative/funny video mate. There was a big discussion in the wholesalers about this so thanks for clearing things up
Never seen sutch a weird double floor, looked a right ballache.
Me neither, it was a chipboard nightmare and creaky as fuck as whoever laid it was too scared to screw it fully down with all those water pipes beneath. I can assure you, our balls were indeed aching by the end of the day.
@@dsesuk Looks like they counter battened over 600 cts. to get 400 cts. for correct spacing of pipes 200 cts. A bloody nightmare for your purposes... lucky they didn't glue the joints
@@user-sg1ku5hu5d Ah, well, Sam said the main part of the floor is glued. Still, on the bright side, that's his problem rather than ours!
Epic video, had to watch in 2 parts but great stuff 😎😎😎😎
Thanks Mr Skills.
Spat my beer out laughing when you told that spam caller where to go, your a bloody funny fella and a damn good spark, I know who to call when I need a spark I'm only 17 miles from you.
Cheers Knoxieman!
My flat has more circuits than necessary. I mean, after ten years of living here I dtill can not fathom why the two double outlets both have their own 16amp breaker. I live in a little one bed flat, why were they not just added to the existing ring? Also they were not labeled on the fusebox, it's just lucky I CHECK things are dead and not assume. It's not the first time I have come across a fuse box done by a qualified electrician that has been improperly labeled.
A lot of circuits is a good thing really as it limits the effect of a fault, but they need to be organised, logical and labelled to be of use.
Maybe they were designed for dedicated circuits.
Safe isolation dood
I have come across these jobs sometimes where the consumer unit has been installed very well and very neat wiring almost as good as lukes electrical, but the rest of the electrical installation is dog shit, makes you wonder why they bothered? Another great video btw from a fellow subscriber👍
Thanks. We have two and a half hours of footage from another site which I'll eventually edit to something more sensible, but it's a horror show and all just been put in on a millionaires mansion! Might be a while before that gets uploaded though.
You'd want to watch your back with those builders, that music screams Hannibal Lecter.... Don't go into that basement David, don't do it, send Nigel instead, he's expendable...🤣🤣
Although I defo don't want to see Nigel dancing around in the basement asking "would you do me" with his tackle tucked in....MY EYES, MY EYES, THEY'RE BURNING.....NOOOOOoooooo
It makes you laugh when you see the carbon footprint of that house and the owner's going to Save The Planet with an electric car. Duh!
It's all about the carbon offsetting. Because of my electric car and solar panels, I can power my barbecue with dolphin meat and plastic.
I'm beyond replying pmsl!!! :-) the world is MMMMAAAADDD! I give up..LED lighting is my remit in this life...neeexxttt!..
I really enjoyed this video more than most.
Not sure if it was the technical information you delivered or the absolutely on point banter throughout.
That bathroom was great, such a waste of time, effort and money to rip it out! Oh well, at least someone stays employed because of that stupidity.
As it turned out, it was worse than it looked. Badly installed in the first place so there was a lot of water damage.
@@dsesuk ahh, that old chestnut.
My new build is like that, lovely looking bathrooms...until I discovered two years down the line that there had been leaks since new. Hidden water damage all over. - I have managed to polish the turd however to save me ripping it all out, but it certainly won't be pleasant when I finally have to get it all redone thanks to the crap build.
This three bed has three bathrooms and I have found obvious water damage in two.
Oh well! Someone will have a job further down the line when I need to get it sorted.
@@underwaterdick Sorry to hear that old chap. That nice looking shower tray was rotten underneath. Sam was also saying that the top floor loo hadn't been vented properly so it ponged when flushed. Also, apparently the overflows in the bathroom hadn't been connected to anything. Looked the biz, but sloppy installation underneath it all.
Oooo, I'm not even half way through and was just thinking loving thoughts about Nigel coming so out of his shell, and then he has to drop that bombshell about Jeremy Vine he doesn't know what's worse, we'd had some nice Brahms, some woman singing which you cut off from and then a bit of nice Chopin or something. And the scales fell from my eyes about Nigel being the perfect companion for old age... On another note altogether, WHY did the client even buy this house? Are you sure he's not gonna want the whole thing knocked down and moved 2 inches to the left when you've finished. It's unbelievable, that was a nice bathroom in the loft.
I was happy with Classic FM, but then some asshole changed to Radio 2, and to add insult to injury, later to Planet Rock. Hairy arsed builders just have no culture.
@@dsesuk What a relief. Can't think of anything worse than a hairy arse WITH culture.

Now I'm getting suggested videos for Sam Smith (the singer).
Ouch. Sorry about that. It'll get worse when we're out filming with Eddie Sheeran Plumbing next week.
Very high standard of fixtures and fittings apart from the cheap and flimsy plastic lavatory seats. Very peculiar!
I think the trip time (with regard to 0800 numbers) on your phone needs a look at...my phone is down to about 1 nano second...in fact I don't even have time to answer the call..ha..
Does it cause you concern that reducing a ring to two radials still leaves an open end buried somewhere...possibly?
The "RAW" style videos are the best really...as they genuinely show, the day to day stuff that actually goes on...and not the polished up version of events..Cheers.
Yes, and we're not beaten yet. If the youth can vacate his wanking den during daylight hours, then we have a chance to track down what's going on with that circuit!
What's the probability those two 'rings' terminate at another breaker ?
great video mate, I'll see you & Frankie Boyle at Elex in the morning
Cheers Dean, see you in Coventry!
That RCD tester is fairly slow
For some reason, it's started doing a five second countdown between tests. Never used to, I must have mis-selected something. I keep meaning to take a look, but then more interesting things crop up to take over my day!

I am sure the multiple layers of chipboard in the flooring were specified by that well known Swedish architect 'Fok Thy-Bolder Söderströms' who as we all know now likes it deep and thick and that must have been a very awkward site meeting when he met the builders onsite and insisted on checking their helmets for Health & Safety purposes....
Built by a sadist that place. They put in truss joists to lull us into a false sense of security, then fitted a multi-layer chipboard floor as the ultimate fuck you!
