      Please don't use heat on your back and neck, it causes inflammation that will pinch the nerve even worse. Ice it and stretch, also an anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen) or muscle relaxers you can get from a doctor. I've lived with back issues most of my life.
      It's an hourly cycle of 15 min ice, 15min or less laying on your stomach on a bed (helps align the spine), then stretch your hamstrings. It's important how you stretch your hamstrings, lay on the floor in a doorway and use the door frame to prop up one heel at a time keeping your leg straight, this isolates the stretch to your hamstring and helps relax the back. As you lay down stretching you will feel everything start to loosen up. Hope this helps for next time.

    I can't lie here, been following you guys for a long time, many years of dreaming of one day getting to sail around the world, but this is the change your channel needed to bring the excitement back. You're not building a fiberglass cat, or some fiberglass Multihull, built by someone else, you're getting your hands dirty and genuinely showing us the process along the way. I really enjoy this, you pulled me right back in with this series of videos.

    • @operator0
      @operator0 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Galvanic corrosion is still a big worry. Without proper maintenance and mitigation it can eat right through that aluminum very quickly. A well built composite hull will last much longer than any other material. The advantage of aluminum over fiberglass isn't really about longevity, it's about strength to weight. While this hull can last 100+ years, it would either need to be out of the water, or it would need constant attentive ownership. In contrast, there are wrecked fiberglass boats sitting on beaches, or on the ground in shallow water for 60+ years that have shown no signs of deterioration. It's actually becoming quite a problem in Biscayne Bay, and parts of the Bahamas.
      Every material has its advantages and disadvantages. It's up to the owner/builder to pick the one that best suites the need. In this case, the only material that might be a better fit for them would be carbon fiber, but that would be many times more expensive than aluminum, and so the cost to benefit ratio is very questionable.

    • @Jpifr
      @Jpifr 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@operator0 Galvanic corrosion will only be a problem if other materials are not well sealed, composite also have to deal with UV and micro cracks, aluminium with fatigue too. With good care, any boat can last for 100years. The strength to weight ratio is also not that obvious, some techniques will make composite and metals better or worse. Carbon fiber composites are also prone to deteriorate with galvanic corrosion when in contact with anode materials.

    • @operator0
      @operator0 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Jpifr Galvanic corrosion can also occur due to stray electrical currents flowing through the hull and into the sea water. This is actually much more destructive than dissimilar metal galvanic corrosion. Although these stray currents can be mitigated, there's no way they can be fully eliminated. The best defense is to make sure that your anodes are always maintained and replaced as needed.

    Thank God for autocad. Can you imagine the fitting problems and extra costs you would have had if each piece needed to be hand drawn and dimensioned? Not to mention the accuracy and benefit of the CNC laser cutting precision. I remember thinking $65k for the raw aluminum was pretty low cost, especially when there would be leftovers sold back at the end. Then, when the flat plates were delivered, it was a surprisingly small stack of metal on just 1 flatbed straight truck.
    I am really enjoying that you've enabled us to see the entire process unfold. I admit I at first had qualms about Brian working daily at the yacht builder. Now that we're seeing the quality of work and dedication of the builders' crew, I think you should consider offering them a week or two of life aboard later when they have vacation time after your shakedown period. I think it would be beneficial to both sides.

    Great progress! I have been enjoying another channel called Sampson Boat Co. (Tally Ho) about a team rebuilding a famous sailing yacht. They have now moved on to becoming a sailing channel. Not to be outdone Delos will now be going from a sailing channel to a building channel and then back to a sailing channel - Well Done! I can't help but think, that with many people becoming invested in the new boat build, that it will help the channel - and Dan's company.

    On the out takes, when you grabbed that hot piece…. I have been a fabricator for 15 years and still do that lol. Loving this series. It’s really cool watching you build. I’m not sure ppl can relate to how hard it is to shape those plates and get them to fit like you have been doing. Truly an amazing job.

    It’s been pretty cool following along with your boat build.
    Congratulations by the way, taking you to thousands of horizons in a catalack of boats. And you’re learning a new trade in the process. Which will be very handy if you need more welding and fabricating done in the future. “Now, you know a guy”. 👍🏼👌🏼. This is what makes you that guy, pretty cool man.
    Take care, all the best, and God bless. From your distant home Port,

    Thanks Brian for your suggestion for breakfast, On reflection I don't eat that sort of crap. With your problem in getting the little lady ready for the coming day in Australia, simple get your arse out of the cot by maybe 45 minutes earlier , You know how a clock works so work it out, if not ask your missus she has always been switched on. Enjoy your time here, sorry about the ratbags you are currently working with but in the last 50 years I have worked with similar people, pain in the arse, but overall they know what they are doing, so behave and learn.
    Love your attitude in this build and wish you the best of luck, I know your are working with ratbags but I have generally found they are reliable. Love it that the little one is very happy in this new environment keep a bit of an eye on her and we won't try to change her too much, hope you enjoy your time here and I was happy until you mentioned you were going to Bunnings. that excursion always cost me a couple of hundred dollars. I never thought I would enjoy a boat build so thank you and welcome to Australia.

    Hi Delos! I live in the southern U.S. Hot! Remember that white is the only color that will not absorb heat. Unfinished aluminum (silver) will also absorb some heat. And we all know how wonderful aluminum is about retaining and conducting heat! I know, almost all the other boats are white but it's for an important reason. Maybe white with some beautiful silver racing stripes. I haven't seen many boats with those double diagonal racing stripes like on Dodge sports cars. That would be inviting! And silver trim where all the other boats have black! Love ya!

    • @windrider65
      @windrider65 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Airstream trailers are unfinished aluminum, they reflect more heat than they absorb especially when you add the proper insulation to go with it.

    • @douglassmith2055
      @douglassmith2055 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      White reflects a lot of heat and always looks clean. Can't imagine no coating, just sound absorption and protection from growth.
