I can't believe I wasted so much time checking and trying to find the perfect video for a twisted headband...everyone always demonstrates on their Addi or Sentro 40 or 60...everyone does not own an addie...I was so happy to find your tutorial and I just received my new Sentro 48...and I must say yours is the best of them all...very well explained for a newbie like me and you make it so easy to follow along not like some that just rush through it never explaining the type of yarn, or what size, and never have the patience to make us viewers understand. Do you have any tips re. tension? Hopefully new machine coming will be better in this regard, but tension seems loose on Prym machine. Thanks for fab tutorials!
It depends on what project I’m working with, but for a headband I hold it taught but not too tight. You’ll find your natural tension and then you can just adjust row counts to get the length of tube you need. Is that helpful?
I think the biggest thing I learnt was how different everyone’s tension is (just as it is with hand knit and crochet), and that difference is what makes the product of these machines wonderful, because it’s not just a case of cranking out a hand or headband, it does take skill and love and care. Make some samples and measure how they end up, I took a lot of tinkering (and some reassurance from friends trying my beanies and headbands on) to work out my favourite tube length. 42-45cm for headbands and about 52-55cm for fitted/slightly slouchy beanies. I can’t wait to see what you make. Happy to offer more guidance if you need it :-)
@@tiffanyrose6947 you could still crochet the ends closed by picking up the loops that hang on your cast on, cast off yarn. Or if you don’t feel comfortable doing that I have a tutorial for another headband that doesn’t require waste yarn.
11:57 ET. How many rows do you suggest making for a child size? I have the Sentro 40. I wish there was an in between size of about 30 for a child width.
Thank you for this it's really clear and easy to follow! Any tips on how to do this for babies and children sizes? Or if you could point me in the direction of somewhere that will show me I'd appreciate it 💕 I have 48 and 22 machines
Hello I have used waste yarn for the first time today and used the crochet hook for sealing the ends together. After removing the waste yarn l noticed l had missed a stitch, any tips on how l can rectify this please. Great tutorial. Thank You x
I think the easiest way is probably to either grab it as you sew the headband together, or to sew it in with some scrap yarn before you sew the ends together to form the headband
Quick question, which is probably no quick answer lol. Okay I have made a few hats and they all turn out wonderfully, made one of these as well but...they are all so small and would be far to tight to fit on my head and have no stretch. So, am I using the wrong type of yarn, I have tried 4-5 different kinds now but know next to nothing about what type they are off hand. Is there a recommended type of yarn to use for adults, or am I having the tension to tight when I hold/wind the yarn in circles? I have the Addi 46 needle one.
Hi, Dropped stitches are really down to tension and how you work the machine, I know it's a boring answer but there is no magic solution other than practice and getting to know your machine. Once you find the right speed and tension then you will find you drop stitches a lot less.
@SnufflebeanYarn Hi! Yes, I saw that and it says that it works for Sentro and Addi. However, I have this exact machine, the 40 pin one, and it doesn't come out the same. I cast on, I go back for the second row but on the third row it doesn't become tight to keep the edge straight. Instead, it keeps unravelling. I hope that that makes sense but if it doesn't, I am referring to 5:56 of your panel video
I would still go for the same length tube, rows vary with individual tension so your row count might be different to mine which is why I give lengths rather than row counts :)
I have the Sentro 48 and I'm trying to make a headband but every time I do it comes out way way way to wide and long. I'm doing 75-80 rows, so I don't understand why it keeps coming out that way. Please help!
It will be wider because it has more pins than the 40 pin machine I use for headbands as that’s what dictates the width. The length is down to in oficial tension which is why I give a tube length instead of a row count. :-)
Thank you so much for a great tutorial! I’m looking to get one of these machines but just wondered if you think the Sheepjes chunky monkey yarn would work on it, or would it be too thick? 🧶xx
If you sew it neatly, then it generally sits quite nicely on the forehead with little bulk, the twist creates a bit of bulk but nothing that looks silly.
Can I ask what the dimensions of the headband are? Trying to see if this machine is suitable for what I need. Like how wide is it from left to right when it isn't being stretched?
@@SnufflebeanYarn thank you so much! I make dog snoods and trying to see if getting one of these machines will speed up how many I can make! @@SnufflebeanYarn oh amazing! I forgot I could control the final width by using a shorter tube. I think I will get one of these and experiment with rows until I find an amount that works.

I find the best weight to use is Aran / Worsted weight. 🙂

It’s exactly the same method for any size machine :) you’d just end up with a wider headband
