Here we have the second and the newest version of the quirky Mazda MX-30: meet the MX-30 R-EV. It's a very unique car because it has a rotary engine under the hood! This time it won't directly drive the wheels, instead it acts as a generator for the high-voltage battery. I love the fact that Mazda is so stubborn about the rotary / Wankel engine despite its natural flaws.
At the end of this drive, I also share my thoughts about this vehicle.

I think this is a better application for the rotary engine. Less wear and tear.

wow that noisy engine, why did'nt mazda put in the boot, so double the battery size and put the wankle in the boot with rear wheel drive you would have a winner as opposed to this whiner
It's not that bad IRL. The audio of the video doesn't do it justice. It's a rather pleasant noise. But true - it still could be quieter. I've driven plenty of Toyota hybrids and half of them are way noisier. The engine sound during full acceleration of the ES300h is a disaster and a dealbreaker, unfortunately.

@@reginaldbowls7180 i have a bmw i3 rex the rex is noisy but i cant be heard in the car as it is under the floor in the back, I know what i am talking about...i love this mazda rex idea just needs 100 mile electric only range and bury that whiner in the back...
i3 could be quieter indeed. I hope to drive one some day.
