Just opened up a 1792 BiB store pick and it is absolutely fantastic. I don't have a huge collection or anything fancy, but I do have probably around 50 bottles. My 1792 BiB is easily in the top 5 of my collection.
The video totally hits the mark here. At first, when I was a newbie, I thought SF Spirits was the be all, end all, competition. Then I saw they were giving out Double Golds to a lot of not so great whiskey (potentially good, but definitely not great)...like, Dewars White Label, Tullamore Dew (Caribbean Cask), BLACK VELVET, Bushmills (Red), Elijah Craig RYE, Buchanan's Deluxe 12 yr, Evan Williams Single Barrel, Wild Turkey LONGBRANCH. I now take it with a grain of salt, or as an indication it may be worth trying but NOT a guarantee of a superior experience.
I picked this up (BiB)sometime around the summer of last year, for a while there this was my favorite bottle. It's a medium complexity that doesn't beat you over the head. Poured some recently and yeah, still good. Sadly haven't tried the Full Proof yet. Still think it's better than Henry McKenna BiB.
@@rick5221 Yes. There are a small few who are good but most just like the idea of posting to Utube. When you open a bottle and say" I get honey and truffles on the nose and a nice balanced taste with a short finish" that offers nothing at all. Really, a blind evaluation among several similar whiskies is the only useful method. What I wish some "reviewer" would do is establish their own standard bourbon, like WT 101 or Elijah Craig for example. And EVERY new bourbon they evaluate is done as a blind comparison against that standard. Then they could see differences and pluses/minuses and that would actually help someone decide if they want to try the new bourbon being evaluated. If an $80 bourbon is no better than your standard then why spend the money? However I have yet to see anyone trying that approach.
Yep, but it gets dogged all the time. That’s okay, leave it on the shelf for others who enjoy it. I can almost find it with a ten minute drive from house.
Yup, the full line is consistently available at $30-50. They are all great values, especially the store picks I find for about $37 and the full proof as well at $47. Great value and quality that you can actually find...... apparently that's not allowed anymore. Makes me want to stock up on ogd 114, 1792s, old forester (especially 1920 and 15) and many others before everything becomes Pokemon cards. I get that some of these award winners are winning because they're exceptional bourbons under $40, but far from best. Then the collectors and flippers take 'em all. $@#& it you @$$#&/^$, buy bourbon to enjoy and SHARE! Same dbags that buy a Ferrari and never drive it!
Nailed it! I already knew what was coming before I watch the whole video! Also this is only the 2nd time my wife has watched your video with me. She was laughing, did he just say that…did he just get up…what is he doing?😆👍🥃
Catching up on episodes that I missed. I have most of the 1792 offerings, and my favorite is the 12 Year, BIB, Full Proof and Single Barrel. How do you not have > 50,000 subscribers? You should have 100,000 subscribers. TH-cam must not know how to count. 🥃
Just ran across this dude vid while clicking on reviews of the 1792 and he was the most honest. Totally subscribing 👍🏾 but will buy this 1792 to Judge for myself. But I must say that Belviene one of my top 5 picks to share at a small Celebration..so we'll just have to see.
I believe the word you were looking for is 'unpossible' but it's really impossible for me to be sure. Great video Matt, haven't explored too deep into the world of 1792. Had the regular small batch and didn't love it. I'm sure they get better as you move up. Cheers!
Golden Glen volunteer judge right here, Matt! Make it happen! I agree with one of the commenters that I prefer regular old 1792 Small Batch to the BIB too. Hit me up, Matt. I'm ready to judge for Merica!!!
It’s San Francisco. California. My previous company was owned by a CA corporation. I’ve seen a lot of clusters and FUBAR’s in my time, but they set new guidelines and records for FUBAR, I’m here to tell you. They were all self-proclaimed “experts”, and everyone saw through that shite. What’s my point? I think you know.
Golden Glens Whiskey Tube Awards. Do a weighted blind tasting with 20 whiskey tubers. Now I would believe THAT gold medal is the champ. No shenanigans. I believe there are shenanigans at San Francisco. No skreet cred.
These competitions are fundamentally flawed and I put no credence in them. Thanks for an honest and entertaining review - as always! But dude - the world naked man of the year award image is something I’m going to have to drink a lot of bourbon to get out of my head! 😜
Can't wait for the Golden Glens! Just found your channel and love it. Telling my other Bourbon loving friends about it...or I want to tell them...well I told my brother to check it out. He loves Bourbon too...maybe a bit too much, but that's beside the point. In fact, why did you even bring it up? It's not like he's a lush...lots of people start the day off with a little warm-up...or a lot.
I really like this bib for the price, but I is harder to find. It's a good whiskey to move people on from makers or woodford, next step in a person's pallet evolution. It's good, but not even close to best even in the bib category. Thanks for a great review Matt.
Matt, you are knocking it out of the park with this one. Indeed, something is rotten in Denmark... had me laughing all the way through. Of course, I was a few drams in, so there is that...
Love 1792! Also, Matt you gotta check out Weldworks brewery now that you're in CO if you like beer...or if you don't like beer check them out anyway! Some of the best sours I've ever tried!
Completely agree. I downloaded the list of award recipients for the SF competition. Thousands of medals were awarded. Just stupid. I don’t think they mean much either.
Finally getting to watch this! Matt I think your next barrel pick sticker should be a built by gravy sticker! I got to try a 1792 BiB and it was banana laffy taffy. Liked it because how sweet it was but I agree, it was very simple.
I'm convinced stuff like this wins because it's very neutral and is easy for everyone to agree on. Idk, I'm just as stumped as you are. 1792 bottled in bond is very good, no chance it was the best in the competition lol
Just did my own blind tasting with 5 BiB. 1792, EH small batch, McKenna, Chesnut farms and Old Forester 1897. 1792 was dead last for me and one of my neighbors by a long, long shot. Wasn’t even close.
Danomyte & Julester obviously have great taste... That much is clear! And although I LOVE me some biscuits and sausage gravy.... You make a decent point there, Watuh Watuh!
I'm fairly new to bourbon tasting and collecting, and don't have your level of expertise. But I have a pretty good collection going and have tasted quite a few good bourbons, and I can see how it could win this award. It is freakin' delicious, and in the top 2 or 3 of all the bourbons I have tried. Deee-licious.
I just scored a store pick that is much better than the typical banana note BiB they put out. I like it more than the store pick Full Proofs I have on hand, which is usually not the case. I would put this in the Henry McKenna BiB range that sometimes puts out a fantastic barrel.
I’m zero for 5 on San Fran winners...They always disappoint. Maybe they send in honey barrels for judging otherwise it’s a scam. Just my opinion but what do I know. But I do trust Matt. Guy is rarely ever wrong.
It's their turn for the spotlight. They got together and said who are we promoting next so their bottles won't be found on the shelves? I drank a bunch of old grand dad in my younger years, it was never confused with good bourbon. Now all of a sudden old grand dad 114, its fantastic. Watch wait and see, next years bourbon of the year. What a joke.
ok , i'll bite. Normally I agree with you in pretty much everything you taste. And I would go so far as to say our pallets are so much alike it freaks me out. But 1792 BIB is objectively better than full proof. Here is the ranking of 1792's in the order of how good they are. Nobody's opinion or stance on the matter is relevant. this is the order. objectively, this the order: 1. 1792 Twelve year (because its twelve year) but just barely the best 2.1792 BIB 3. 1792 Small Batch 4. 1792 Full Proof ( this would be number 3 if it wasnt so damn hot. Dial it back from 130 to around 1115-118 and I think you have a winner 5. 1792 Single Barrel - This whisky sucks especially for the price. 6. 1792 Sweet wheat I think I'm missing one, but whatever, this is the freaking list. thanks,

I admire your total honesty. Too many whiskey "reviewers" pander to the distilleries, especially the big names.

I can only hope 1792 BiB takes the spotlight off Henry McKenna so it will be easier to find.
is that a coloradohio flag?

“BUILT BY GRAVY” That’s a T-shirt right there! 🤣
🤔 I prefer full proof picks most times over a BiB. But 1792 does deserve some love.

Knew this was going to be excellent right off the title. Died at “it’s good, who cares.” 😂😂
Love the music when you go to the guitar stuff around 4:30. So smooth, like a good drink. I say this drinking some 1792 Full Proof right now.

I think your idea of a Spirits Competition is great! It should be the "ADHD Spirits Competition, Dang It!"
At my local ABC liquor today I saw the bottle and bond and the and the foolproof I am a huge fan of the 1792 small batch which I'm enjoying right now
A bottle of this poured out in the trunk of my car. It was sealed, but top popped from rolling around. 😢
Matt, the editing in this video was fantastic. You've gotten great at it. As for 1792, it's good, fine, but well, you made my point.
Congrats on winning the Best Nude Model of the Year, and for winning 1st prize is a bottle of 1792 BIB. 😂 FAS Porter, you're the best 🥃
I happened to be drinking water during the naked body joke, and i started to choke to death 😂😂

All the youtuber should do a Bourbon Tube awards.... Now that I would respect more.
Thank gawd you’re here ... I needed a good laugh today!!
1792 was my first bourbon that started me down the rabbit hole to a collection of over 350 bottles
Same
I am totally in for a whiskeytube competition. Can we do all the whiskey bottles under $30? (we are actually basically already doing that).
Good point, Mr. Porter.
My favorite part is when you got up to go grab the other bottle out of anger.
Matt, how’s the 1792 small batch?
I love this bottle. It's not my favorite, but given so many palates with so many different personal tastes, i think this is a legitimate pick.
Love 1792! Also, Matt you gotta check out Weldworks brewery now that you're in CO if you like beer...or if you don't like beer check them out anyway! Some of the best sours I've ever tried!
So how many straight bourbons do they actually taste? How do they get entered and selected? Pay to play?
Holy Fu..ing shit! I almost pissed my pants!
Matt Porter built by gravy, winning the naked model award. You are absolutely next level!!!
Yes we need a whiskey tube awards please!!!
Let’s go !! I agree 💯 I have a feeling there’s might be some shady deals going on in the back shizzz there’s gotta be make Zero since .
Built by gravy! Yes Sir we have the same palate.
I don't put much weight in competition medals. They hand out so many it's basically participation trophies at this point.

14 seconds. Thats all it took to hit the play button. On this beautiful son of a beeee.
Best straight whiskey when tasted “Sh1tfaced” 😂
I’m so here for the Golden Glens! Throwing my name in the hat (Glen?) for the judging committee 🥃

I actually do prefer the BIB to the Full Proof, but neither is my favorite.
Mental note- create a recipe for cream corn banana caramel cotton candy. Thanks Matt.
I still trying to understand as well!! Maybe someone took other spirits into the bottle and resealed it 🤔 yep that’s what happen!!!!
I completely agree. I have both of these bottles and the 1792 Full Proof is definitely better...neither deserves a superior Bourbon Award.
Well said... and yes, bring on the golden glens.
I’m zero for 5 on San Fran winners...They always disappoint. Maybe they send in honey barrels for judging otherwise it’s a scam. Just my opinion but what do I know. But I do trust Matt. Guy is rarely ever wrong.

Everytime I watch one of your videos I crack up.
No such thing as “way too much”. You drained a perfect pour!
Best is, of course, subjective. But if this whisky is even a contender then, at it’s price point, I’ll buy it.
I dare you to put this 1792 BIB in a blind test with 4 other top picks!
Gotta agree with this fr Full Proof is better and has better value Imo also
1792 small batch for $30 is excellent. I'm just saying.
Didn’t Old Ezra 7 win last year? Middle shelfer.
Matt, what are your thoughts on the new Sam Houston 15?
Thanks for your thoughts.
