I agree with your comment on Elmer T. Lee. I used to buy it all the time in Frankfort for $35 and then it suddenly became hard to get. Now it’s stupidly expensive. I will enjoy Russels Reserve instead.

Matt! Thanks for the vid. Entertaining per the usual! I love that you said "furniture store" when talking Old Tub. For me, I literally felt like I was eating peanuts in the shell while walking in a JoAnn Fabrics. Bottled-In-Tweed
Your videos never disappoint! Found your channel from the hipster guys you challenged to a fight. I like how you don’t feel the need to hold your hand up and rub your fingers together to describe what something tastes like. Also very funny.
Yes!!! I was hoping someone would agree with me on Old Forester Barrel Proof! I love barrel proofs. I like a lot of Old Forester releases. I despised the OFBP barrel I had. It was borderline un-barrel-able. Hot, spicy, harsh finish, tasted young. Let the stores sell out while I take the JDBP all day at $20 less over these. I feel like since both of our GOATs are Old Carter American, that our palates and preferences are very similar.
I had never had Old Forester and picked up a bottle of OF 86, the nose was like paint thinner, the palate had something to saver and I could definitely get those banana notes... but then my mouth reminded my brain that unfortunately I needed to get to the finish. The finish was very unpleasent, so instead of wasting the whole bottle, I poured it into my decanter, and the next day I added 1/4th tbsp of mesquite liquid smoke to almost all of the 750ml... it easily became one of my favorite neat bourbons I owned after that, and something unique to me as well. Maybe try that out with the Barrelproof OF you have.
Totally agree with rebel 100, bottle started good and half way down became only a good mixer, but old tub @$17 here in Fl is one of the best values on the shelf to me and gets better as you sip it. One thing I will say is if u drink that, only drink that, if you switch to something else it throws your pallet off! And OF barrel strength, I had someone else's bottle and was delish, bought one and haven't opened it....now I'm nervous lol
100% agree on the Elmer T Lee... I had a choice between that and a Stagg JR and I never had the ETL so I grabbed that... I still lay awake at night regretting that decision
This is a Great video and and anyone who drinks bourbon should take note. I love the whisper talk as it seems he is revealing secrets of the trade. Some of us know these things but most do not.
Wanted to give you three thumbs up but can’t do that anymore since the surgery. So true! Old tub is peanut grossness it’s so so bad. Also would’ve added Weller SR definitely not worth paying over msrp for.
Great video. I couldn't agree more when you started talking about EtL. I started buying it at 33 and the birthday edition for 37. I still have one bottle left of weller 12 fat bottle I bought for 50.

LOL, cracks on Beam for putting out Old Tub as a "cash grab" (when in reality it's cheaper now than it was Kentucky only and only sold in 375s), while sitting in front of a shelf that has Old Carter and Mattingly on it. This is a joke, right? This has to be a joke.
Tastes like sneakers. Glad I watched this. When I noticed a bottle of Merica in the store I had thought of you and your catch phrase as you open American whiskeys. I had wondered if it was any good and now I know lol
7:05 I completely agree about those OFSB barrel proof. Mine is hazmat hot even after 6 months below the shoulder. 🔥 a friend of mine has 2, one is hazmat hot and one is delishious. Blending with 1920 or Makers Mark 2020 SE4 x PR5 really helped alot to tame that heat and still keep close to the flavor profile (maybe just taming with 1920 is the way to go as Markers Mark SE4 x PR5 is more rare 😆).
Buying a bottle that says best whiskey ever is like going to a coffee shop that says world's best coffee...you just have to expect what you're gonna get
Another great video and topic. I have another idea for you. We always hear phrases like "best value" in bourbon or this bourbon "punches above its weight", but I have yet to see $30 bottles tested against 40,50,60, 70 etc. so could you please do a video where you pick the top 2-3 from each category and do a true test of value. You can pick the 2-3 from videos you've already done to speed up the process. It would also be a good idea to challenge the other bourbon tubers to do the same. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Rebel Yell was exactly the same for me. First drink from the freshly opened bottle was pretty good. Then it gradually got worse the longer it sat between drinks.
Dude I can't stop laughing! I'm glad that there are bourbon drinkers out there that are willing to the distance to pick'em up and knock'em down while at the same time, without even a smirk, just kill the review. Love it, Matt!
I tried to like Old Tub too. I think it also gave me a headache on top of tasting awful. I can't find the OGD114 where I live but plenty of OGDBiB, and it's my go to cheap bottle right now.
Same here in Utah--Can't find OGD 114, but the BIB is always in stock. However, I still haven't had the BIB yet either. Maybe I'll finally pick one up next time. 😊
@@oldiesgeek454 the OGD BIB or the Early Times BIB - really can't go wrong with either for a cheap bottle. (Sazerac recently acquired the Early Times BIB + stock, so all the more reason to pick up one before it eventually goes "allocated" and you either have to pay $500 or perform a horrible sex act to obtain a bottle)
I purchased an OF SIB BP pick, I was very nervous after reading many bad reviews. The pick I purchased is one of my favorite bourbons I've tasted. Wine and Spirits in the Quarter in Jackson picked a great barrel.
Thanks for your informative and entertaining take on these Bourbons; In four out of five cases, you've saved me from spending money on battery acid masquerading as Bourbon. For example, I can't speak to the Elmer T. Lee, haven't seen it at my regular liquor store, but I have heard one or two people who said they didn't HATE it...at least I think that's what they were saying. On the Old Tub, nothing I've heard makes me want to try it or buy it. If I want to taste peanut shells, I'll wait till Logan's Roadhouse re-opens and eat the shells instead of sweeping them onto the floor. Haven't tried that particular Old Forester (I'm too cheap, I guess) and it sounds like I won't...I have the same problem with a lot of barrel strength Bourbons, where they're more about the heat than the taste. However, I do regularly buy and enjoy the Old Forester Signature 100 Proof...decent bourbon, decent price, not pretentious or hyped. Rebel Yell 100 was okay but I never felt compelled to do a 2nd bottle for some reason ("I didn't HATE it"), so I'd agree with your assessment. Merica...not familiar with it, but it sounds like another cutesy marketing ploy where the creativity is all in the label design and copy (and damned little there, even), where the whiskey was an afterthought. This video is the first one of yours I've found on TH-cam, so I don't know if you've ever reviewed Evan Williams (the white label EW), Bulleit, Legent, Henry McKenna 10 Year Old Single Barrel, or any of the Elijah Craig products. None is a higher end Bourbon, though the McKenna has gone up considerably since it won some major awards a few years back. I'd be interested to hear your take on these Bourbons, and Old Grandad 114 as mentioned by comparison to Old Tub. Thanks again for the video!
Old Tub was not bad. Repeal Batch was a much better non chill filtered Beam expression. I love Devils Cut, bonded beam, and double oaked jim beam as cheap go tos or gifts. Bonded Beam is very underrated. Old Tub was a few bucks more than those and I dont think much better. So many better choices under $30 but atleast worth trying one time
The more bourbons I try the more I realize there are many many bourbons that one should not buy. Another great video, Matt! Thanks for the grins! Cheers!
Totally agree on the Old Forester single barrel. I had one from Total Wine and one from The Stanley Hotel whisky shop (here in CO), and I was sorely disappointed in both. Neither were as good as the standard 1910 or 1920 Old Forester offerings.
Omg this is gold!! It came up as a recommended whiskey video and I thought, sure I’ll watch it. You sir, have gained another subscriber. Hilarious. Love it 😂
I see that Merica bottle at my local store every time I go and and wonder who buys that. Always thought any whiskey with a label that over done can’t be good. Thank you for confirming my suspicion Matt!
What upset me most about the OF barrel proof sibs is that they don't disclose the age. My local shop advertised it as 8 years due to some miscommunication and then had to come back and tell us it's "at least 4 yrs" like huh? How can you not know the age of a single barrel?!?!? First time OF has let me down...I haven't even opened it yet because of how mad I am about spending that money on something that isn't what I thought it was. That said, I think the 90proof sibs are really good.
Matt, I was able to try OF Barrel Strength Barrel Pick at my local speakeasy. Luckily it was their barrel pick and I very much enjoyed it, so much that I purchased a couple of bottles. You are right though, if you are going to purchase a barrel pick, you should try it first or you may experience buyer's remorse. One suggestion, if you find something to be too hot at barrel strength, the great option is to add some water until it reaches a level to your liking. Hopefully it will also open up the flavors. Not guaranteed, but it is an option.
I can agree with this list. Add Russles Reserve hot cinnamon candy and ultra flat bla Early Times BiB, both raved about but fall short of wasting any amount of money on. Cheers and nice vid
Dang it! Just cracked that SOB old forester single barrel cask strength, you were right! Well I still have hope it’s like Stagg jr, in that it gets better once it’s open for a month or so. A little water helped it out, but 1920 is way way better. Crap!
Agree to disagree, Old Tub is amazing (18.99 here in Total Wines across So Cal). That OF SBBP sounds like my bottle of EC A118, just not enjoyable at all and that's a bummer.
Old Tub is always below $20 in So Cal. At that price, it's worth keeping around in lieu of Jim Beam white label (for those guests that want that for some reason). It's also fine for soaking raisins to add to banana bread.
I agree with everything but the Old Tub and we get radically different tasting notes there. I get cinnamon red hot candy. It’s also great if you like cocktails it makes a great old fashioned.
Well its Sunday morning slept in and decided to watch a few more of your videos. I have to say you SIR are the only channel that makes me laugh. Thanks and keep up the great content.
I have had the opposite experience with old forester sbbp, had 2 bad ones out of probably 15ish bottles. Remember it's a single barrel product.... varkations......
The OF Barrel Strength bottle isn’t my favorite either, however, if you add a few drops of water or a single rock (ice cube) in a glass... it’s not that bad.
That is too bad about the Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength. I have pretty much loved everything I have ever tried from Old Forester. I will take your advice and only buy one if I can try it first.
04:27 Agreed on this one. Old Tub, for me, has a wonderful flavor profile, but there is absolutely zero finish. It hits you with flavor and then immediately leaves, never to be seen again. Kinda like that hot chick I was getting close to that one time I was drunk at a party, and then I turned to talk to someone and she was gone. Bummer.
@@ADHDWhiskey so ironically, rebel yell 100 won, barely edging out larceny. Weller SR was third and makers was last and the only one I didnt like really at all.
Glad you did Elmer T. Lee. I was buying this a couple of years ago at my local liquor store for $30. I went in there last month and they had changed owners and now the price tag was like $150. I proceeded to rip them a new asshole.
So weird, I picked one up 64.3 Abv in socal, yea sure the finish is super dry and oak’y but the initial taste, viscosity and nose are insanely good. Smells and tastes like banana nut muffins.
Just found the channel, love it. What would you recommend for a whisky to drink when you are mad at yourself? A punishment dram? Does the Rebel Yell match up?
You nailed it Matt!! Finally someone who speaks the truth on Old Tub!! If I had to add a 6th, O Fo 1910. Can’t get past the bitter chocolate!! When is the ADHD barrel pick??
Matt at ADHD Whiskey: An Award winning, Limited Edition, non-chill filtered, barrel strength take on whiskies we should love and ones we should probably not love. In all seriousness, I’m glad you said the turning sour thing about Rebel 100. Mine did the exact same thing. I’d have included Longbranch from Turkey and Willet Pot Still.
100% agree with you’re worst choice… bought a bottle because it was endorsed by a company I respect and buy products from. And it was shit. A dumpster fire… yea it did indeed taste of sneakers and disappointment. 1/10 do not recommend.

I’ll add another to your list, Copper Fox rye, unless you like lamp oil, I just got a bottle of the OFBP, hope it’s a good one, 🤞
Lamp oil 🤣
I commented the same. It might be my favorite old fashioned
“And they didn’t have legs” 😂😂😂
Well its Sunday morning slept in and decided to watch a few more of your videos. I have to say you SIR are the only channel that makes me laugh. Thanks and keep up the great content.
Thank you John!
Old Tub is trash, I used the rest of the bottle to clean carburetors.
I have had the opposite experience with old forester sbbp, had 2 bad ones out of probably 15ish bottles. Remember it's a single barrel product.... varkations......
That is why I said try before you buy
Disagree on the Old Tub, but agree wholeheartedly on the Old Forester.
I've only had the Old Forrester Rye and it's really good
So what am I supposed to do with my Elmer T now? Feeling a little crushed over here!
I didnt say it was bad!
@@ADHDWhiskey Lol 😆 Keep up the great work Matt. You can't hurt my feelings you big bully. Cheers and thanks as always.
Cheers Tim!
Welp, another damn near perfect video. Sneakers are another tasting note not usually found in bourbon, though it is found in some Scotch.
Young experimentally aged bourbon also a bit rubbery lol
That would be the bandaid tasting note in scotch.
Best bourbon/whiskey related TH-cam channel. Yea, I said it!
The OF Barrel Strength bottle isn’t my favorite either, however, if you add a few drops of water or a single rock (ice cube) in a glass... it’s not that bad.
Mine gets super nutty and bitter with water unfortunately
@@ADHDWhiskey Damn... that’s unfortunate
A little bit of water really helps take the heat out of mine too. Unfortunately I didn’t think to try it until the bottle was half gone.
That is too bad about the Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength. I have pretty much loved everything I have ever tried from Old Forester. I will take your advice and only buy one if I can try it first.
Buy everyone you see Matt is wrong
04:27 Agreed on this one. Old Tub, for me, has a wonderful flavor profile, but there is absolutely zero finish. It hits you with flavor and then immediately leaves, never to be seen again. Kinda like that hot chick I was getting close to that one time I was drunk at a party, and then I turned to talk to someone and she was gone. Bummer.
Hahahaha this is brilliant - really glad to of found this page
Awesome!!! I will definitely avoid your selections!! Keep up the great work!
You are way easier to understand than Dan and Sean, hope you get to 700k views
Literally just bought rebel yell 100 a few days ago to go into my budget wheater whiskey war alongside makers, weller SR, and larceny
Would be a good war!
@@ADHDWhiskey I'll most likely be doing it tomorrow. I'll update on who wins for me.
Craziness right!?
ETL was a pass for me at $28 in 2012 and nada has changed. Pour it sbs with Eagle 10, Eagle will win. Every time.
100% agree on these, but especially on the Old Forester barrel strength single barrel. I taste all the ashes in my mouth.
So weird, I picked one up 64.3 Abv in socal, yea sure the finish is super dry and oak’y but the initial taste, viscosity and nose are insanely good. Smells and tastes like banana nut muffins.
Thanks, another keeper video! I took notes! 😉
My list of nope...1. Clyde Mays. 2. David Nicholson reserve 3.Knob Creek twice barreled rye.
Old Tub review was spot on! It’s 19$ in Florida
Its just....icky
Just found the channel, love it. What would you recommend for a whisky to drink when you are mad at yourself? A punishment dram? Does the Rebel Yell match up?
You nailed it Matt!! Finally someone who speaks the truth on Old Tub!! If I had to add a 6th, O Fo 1910. Can’t get past the bitter chocolate!!
When is the ADHD barrel pick??
None on the horizon but hope to get one lined up soon!
But I just bought RY 100 Friday.
Which is the last bottle he reviews?
Much respect for that list. Do I agree with all of them "hellls no" but I respect it. Nice work. Will definitely get the community talking.
West Cork, Irish Whiskey should be in there ..... drain cleaner
Thanks Matt! Rebell Yell is like 39 Dollars around my neck of the woods!
Rebel Yell 10 Year is delicious. Rebel 100.is the opposite
@@ADHDWhiskey I meant the BIB
