    If a child has taken the time to say “hey daddy”, that means they feel like what they have to say is important enough for you to listen to them. Stop what you’re doing and LISTEN. I live by this for my 7 & 8 year old boys. I dont care what I am doing, what I am reading, or what I am watching. I stop and give my son the attention he is asking for.

    My son started spraying the hose into the air. Its windy. I wanted to yell at him, "Don't do that because you will get wet." But, I thought for a second. He can be wet and cold. Who cares? We are always dry! And I watched him enjoy the water spraying. It was pure JOY!

    How refreshing that he could have this conversation with his daughter. The parenting that so many of us, (especially girls), experience is physical abuse. Parents and older siblings beat girls down to instill fear, to make sure she stays in the place they want her to stay in.

    I have always been put down by all my family. I've never been good enough. I worked hard at my job. I started from all the way in the bottom and now I am a supervisor reaching for the manager job one day and still not good enough. But thanks to them I know what NOT to do. And I raise my child the way I wish I was raised.

    Yeah narcissistic parents tend to be very controlling over their children, they don't let them find out who they are for themselves, and they always put them down if they don't do what they want you to do, or be who they want you to be. People tend to raise their children how they were raised, and that is the problem. A lot of parents was taught to suppress their feelings.

    I'm a first time mom and sadly became a single mother after giving birth I'm trying to learn as much as possible

    • @stevepinckney7998
      @stevepinckney7998 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You got this, ma'am. Just being open to learning as much as possible believe it or not is MORE THAN half the battle. So many parents are unconsciously locked into patterns of raising children that they themselves experienced, that they don't even realize they are passing down old (sometimes really old) traumas. The best (admittedly, unsolicited) advice I can give is to extend yourself the *highest* amount of grace possible. Don't beat yourself up when you inevitably make mistakes. Say "doh!" and then move on. I'm the father of 2 amazing little girls. Some days I feel like I have this "daddy" thing down cold. Other days I feel like "WTH are you doing???" The thing I try to keep in mind is that every day is a new day...a new opportunity to try something different...to connect with and learn from these precious little beings. Oh, and also listen to the short clip by Thomas S. Monson about raising young children. Search YT for "Monson If you are still in the process of raising young children." In my mind that's what this moment you're in is all about, and something to constantly keep in mind. I try really hard to listen to that quote or read it at least once a month. I don't know you and can tell you're a great mother. My hope and wish for you is that you also believe this.

    Why do some cultures (most notably Arab, American and Japanese) breastfeed their daughters longer than sons? I read somewhere that some moms will nurse their daughter's longer so that they will grow up more pretty /cute etc. Granted my cousin sister was breastfed for nearly 4 years and her facial features are so angelic. Obviously these American, Japanese and Arab mothers must be on to something as they probably want their little girls to grow up into cherubic, small nosed hollywood actresses, belly dancers and cosplay models respectively!
