We're in Belgrade, Serbia! Belgrade is the capital city of Serbia and it has a food culture which has been influenced by its conquerors over the past thousands of years as well as by its neighbours in the Balkan region. In this 2 part series we aim to show you some of the city's most beloved food as well as share some traditional Serbian food with you. We kick off with breakfast the Serbian way- eating burek (a flaky pie made with a special dough similar to filo and with meat or cheese) from a bakery which has been family run for over 50 years. Many locals claim this is the best burek in the city and after eating a lot of burek during our stay we would have to agree. A special thanks to the owners who insisted on treating us to our meal of burek and yoghurt.
Next up, a Serbian classic- cevapi- minced meat fingers cooked over charcoal and served with kajmak (clotted cream) and ajvar (ayvar) from a local's favourite. We LOVED the cevapi from this restaurant- the meat was of a great quality and overall the meal was fantastic. Then onwards to a spot for kobasice (sausages) where they make all their sausages in-house. Again, the quality of the meat was amazing. And finally pizza at a Belgrade institution called Bucko. Here they serve their ham, cheese and mushroom pizza slathered with creamy salad dressing- it was by no means the best pizza we've ever eaten but the addition of the salad dressing was fantastic- a quirky, interesting snack! What we ate and where we ate it:
1. Burek at Pekara Bobe, Dubrovačka 24, Beograd 11000, Serbia. Open Monday to Friday 6:00am to 4:00pm, Saturday 6:00am to 3:00pm and Sunday 6:00am to 2:00pm.
2. Cevapcici at Сарајевски ћевап „То је то“, Bulevar despota Stefana 21, Beograd 11000, Serbia. Open daily 8:00am to 10:00pm.
3. Skardalija Kobasice at Skadarlijske kobasice, Skadarska 6, Beograd, Serbia. Open daily, 24 hours.
4. Pizza with beef salat at Bucko, Francuska 18, Beograd, Serbia, Open daily Monday to Friday 7:00am to 2:00am and Saturday and Sunday 8:00am to 2:00am.

For the best Ćevapi, go for Savčić ćevapi restaurant, Walter who has a lot of ćevapi restaurants in a city and for a Sarajevski restaurant. By the quality of the meat, they are the top of the Belgrade.

Niko od nas danas nije "genetski čist" Sloven ili Ilir ili bilo šta.
Ali kulturom i nasleđem jesmo Sloveni. Dovoljno je da se osvrneš na prehrišćansko doba. Naši preci nisu poštovali ilirska božanstva kao što su Melesokus, Boria, Bindus nego slovenski panteon Peruna, Velesa, Svaroga, Triglava.
Dovoljno da vidiš nazive toponima na prostoru bivše Jugoslavije ili da porazgovaraš, svako na svom jeziku, sa jednim Albancem i jednim Rusom. Mislim da ćeš ovog drugog puno bolje razumeti.

@@MisterXdotcom Shut the hell up. If that is what people call it in your Bosnian village, it does not mean that everyone needs to comply with it. "Börek" in Turkish means patty which loosely translates to "pita". So even Burek is pita, and this type of "pita" is burek regardless of the filling.

HOnestly Bucko is the biggest junk of food that exists on planet Earth.
Bucko has the shtiest pizza, it’s just the salad you put on top of it that makes it ok
@@spinegod Yeah it's not the greatest pizza, not the shittiest tho, a lot of far worse pizzas to find. The salad doesn't make it ok it makes it fantastic and a unique find you can't get anywhere else, there's a lot of copycats but none of them come close. Either way, there is no reason in hell to go to bucko and get the pizza without the salad and no one has ever said that anyway.

Great video, absolutely amazing food. If I ever scrape up enough money to travel, Serbia will definitely be one of the first places I go.

By the way, traditionally, cevapi is eatern without the Ajvar and Mustard, You open the flatbrad, put in some onions and kajmak (the cream) and then the meat. Cheers

@@ChasingaPlate It is different. I love Swedish food too, I just haven't had Serbian food in nearly a year. There's pljeskavica and cevapi here, but all the cevapi places are Bosnian, which means Muslim, which means no pork in the minced meat, which means dry, tangy meat instead of the juicy, umami-ey yumminess of pork and beef together. Sweden does offer decent burek these days, though. But you can't get Serbian tomatoes in Sweden. Or Serbian mild fresh white cheese. Or homemade ajvar.
Of course, when I AM in Serbia, after a while I start missing smoked salmon and dill sauce and lingonberry jam. You always want what you can't have.
I hope you got a chance to try some sarma. It is the best food serbia has to offer in my opinion. Loved the vid. It was great quality. I cant wait for you to make more.
