It would probably work with many other animals -dogs, cows, crows.

This, however, was also a learning process but one that required the animals to figure it out for themselves. They had a model of reality to make associations between actions and outcomes. There was no training, it was all learning. They learned that they can't destroy the objects, otherwise the trade becomes less frequent. They learned that they have to release the item after they get what they want. And most important of them all: New generations are learning from observing their parents doing it. With "basic animal training" you never rely on observation, you rely just on action plus reward.
