    Sometimes the barter goes a bit different. At that very spot in Bali I once saw a monkey snatch some expensive glasses from a dude much like in this video, and when a Balinese guy came to offer it a banana, the monkey took it with one hand while holding the glasses in the other. Then it thought for a moment, realised it needed the other hand to peel the banana, took one last look at the glasses and tossed them right off that cliff into the ocean. That was one long and spectacular fall, everyone was laughing. The guy who owned the glasses tried to laugh along but you could tell how much he was mourning his loss.

      @alexanderj.6701 ปีที่แล้ว +113

      @@yesikanarvaez5027They can, but in that case it chose not to. Funny thing was how the monkey was deciding what to do with the glasses once it got the fruit, looked to the left where all the people were standing, looked to the right which was off the cliff to the ocean, and figured the right was right.

      Hey all, appreciate comments. My point is you may lose specialist $300 glasses (with sturdy wetsuite material keepers) as per what happened to my companion. I saw a lot more get 'lost' in a very short space of time and the Balinese well the 'keeper' was asleep. However, you may also risk getting rabbies. Do your own checking.

  • @penguasakucing8136
    @penguasakucing8136 ปีที่แล้ว +215

    I was there, lost a pair of shades and a tube of sunscreen myself. I didn't give them anything, so they break the shades, twisted it like a pretzel, and throw it away. Could be worse, I saw a Korean girl losing her brand new, top of the line smartphone down the cliffs. No ransoming that one back. There was also an Indian mom choked while getting her necklace yanked off. The chain was too strong, both fortunately and unfortunately.
    A domestic tourist from Surabaya tried to ransom back his glasses immediately with his box of fried chicken meal, but the monkeys seemed to not understand that because the meal is in a box. He ended up paying a local granny to ransom those with a banana, something the monkey understands.
    The view is wonderful, but the experience is one under a looming sense of terror and insecurity from the monkeys.

    Some day they're going to realize either:
    - The phone is worth so much more than even the increased food they're trying to get (near future)
    - The phone is worth a lot of cash, which then could be used to buy food in bulk (5-10 years)
    - The phone itself is an extremely useful tool once you learn how to use it (10 years or more)

    What's scary that they didn't show is that they work in teams. I had to have my prescription glasses on or else I couldn't see but I was warned so I was careful not to have any monkey in my vicinity. Unfortunately, certain part of the area is just a narrow stairway, so I was on alert, as a monkey swing down from the tree in front of me, I dodge away, a monkey from behind snatched my glasses away. I didn't think it was preventable in that situation, fortunately I was able to get it back through bartering, though it was slightly damaged :( .

    Hey all, as a long time Bali visitor my view is the monkeys are dangerous period....thousands of the general public have complained and over years....if you go you risk losing glasses, hats etc but you also risk being scratched or bitten. Charming they are not! They are bold, aggressive, quick and will threaten you. They want what you've got and you are in 'their territory' and 'game plan'. My advice is to steer clear.

    Just got back from Bali last week, the amount of tourists who don't listen to the warnings or do their research before heading into Uluwatu temple is staggering. Yes, to be fair there is a significant language barrier with so many visitors from around the world. But still, it's hard to feel sorry for them if they can't go without wearing sunglasses or other trinkets for an hour.
    For what it's worth, the Monkey Forrest in Ubud was a very different story. The monkeys there were much better behaved and there was also a lot more local guards armed with slingshots to make sure they don't try to get up to any hi-jinks.
