A lot. One key difference is a 503E has a really strong deck, where as a 3S may crack above 400hp. The block has some similarities, but everything else is completely different. No parts are interchangeable between the two engines.
Rumors were that this engine was putting out around 1050 hp! The cars following with 700+ hp were being left behind confirming the Toyota's advantage. I was there.....
That's pretty impressive figures especially with a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. 1050hp from a engine that sounds small but yet looks absolutely massive is very impressive.

You're very close. 2.1 liter DOHC 503E 4 cylinder engine and single turbo. It's the same motor in Rod Millen's Pike Peak Celica and Tacoma.
I thought it was too but TRD has plenty of 503E engines left from the IMSA GTP project after 1993.
I thought in pikes pike celica was 3sgte engine.
what's the difference between 503E and 3s-gte? anyone got a clue?
I believe the 503E was the basis for the 3SGTE, it came out before the 3S =)
I heard after most the races the 503Es were suppose to get crushed. People who have them I don't think got them the normal routes, lol.
From what I've read the engine came out of their GTP car, which is a 503E not a 3SGTE.

your correct. it is a 503E engine, and its pretty much a 3s on roids
