Thank you so much for all your lovely comments and tips. Your chairs and customisation ideas are super cool. Please feel free to send me a pic on IG or Twitter as I would love to see, xx
I’m in my 60’s and of course I’m not dead yet... so for my chair I chose a lime green and purple for the accents and blue for my spokes .... yes I stand out like a sore thumb but I absolutely love color and I figure if the chair is part of me then it’s going to be colorful.
wow that sounds awesome. I love that there are customisation ideas. and its nice its a reflection of your personality. feel free to share a pic with me on twitter or IG. xxx
When my daughter gets back from camp, we will send a video of her light up, flashing wheels. Your videos are so great. I wish we could visit you and let my 15 year old gain some inspiration from you! She needs someone in her life who understands "wheelchair life" and is full of positivity like you. Thank you for what you are doing.
You are so amazing! Im 13 and disabled and i get very anxious with my problem as its a very very rare desease and no one understands me but your videos inspire me so much and make me feel less alone even though we have different problems. You are amazing!! Thank you!! 😍😍
awwwww Im so glad my videos help you. Your not alone with wheelsnoheels. I was disabled from the age of 9 so I know what its like being a disabled teen. I did a Tedx talk not long ago, which is all about how i found it hard. th-cam.com/video/iehd381Df90/w-d-xo.html feel free to give it a watch. :)
Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard it was amazing thanks! My disability is still being investigated for a diagnosis but from what we can see it's rare and its a genetic problem so my family have it ( only the girls). I try not to use my wheelchair to much because as i get older ill get worse and i want to use all the time i can, though sometimes i need the wheelchair though i feel scared in it. But thank you for being that person to look up to!
Miss JB I don’t know if it could help as there are loads of things I don’t know about you : ) but if you are anxious just about being outside in your chair would it help to start small and build up to bigger things? I sort of mean, how about getting a potted outdoor plant and every day go out to check on it and give it a little water and talk to it and just enjoy being outside for a few minutes every day, and when that feels comfortable go out of the garden and maybe go around the block of where you live (...again assuming that you don’t live in a massive castle or on a giant hill!), and just take your time to build up your confidence slowly. If it’s because, like me you tend to fall or faint easily but don’t want anyone passing by to always call for an ambulance, only to recover as the ambulance gets there and the paramedics say , “not you again!” - you can get ‘alert’ labels or even jewellery that has basic information about your condition, for example, the inside of my bag says [***FAINTING AND FALLING IS COMMON FOR ME*** ~ ***ONLY CALL FOR HELP IF I AM INJURED***] in really big letters!!! You can get bracelets and necklaces stamped or engraved with anything you like, (...from the place that mends shoes in the UK!), and even ‘SOS’ jewellery that has a paper insert with lots of information about you in it, but these are quite expensive. If you DM me I’m happy to chat or try to help :) I’ve been completely wheelchair dependent for six years, but have a condition that I’ve had all my life. - Billie
billieblue Sheepie thanks for the advise my condition is collagen 6 v realeted distrophy ( excuse spelling) its fairly rare and is a genetic condition. It means i have on and off days like some days ill be in pain and walk slow or some days ill be in a small amount of pain but walk perfectly ( hiding the pain) and other days i becone paralysed. It makes me anxious because people will day im not actually disabled or that im a lier and people used to hit me and beat me because of that I've becone scared over time. I have a group of friends now that im comftable with so that helps and i have a special doctor recommended counsellor which also helps me relax. But thank u for the advise x
I love all these tips and ideas, especially the bag underneath! My wheelchair is blue I got it off amazon for occasional use because of pain and fatigue, it was a big hurdle for me to get over but now I’m so thankful for it because it means I can go out more and be a bit more independent xx
Im glad they were useful. Yes its hard adjusting to using a wheelchair, but once you turn it around and see the benefits, it can enrich your life. Have you checked out my benefits of using a wheelchair vid? xx
Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard not yet but I need to for sure! I am not able to push mine though so it can be frustrating being pushed I find but being able to go places I wouldn’t otherwise is such a blessing xx
I’ve got Harley Davidson motorbike tank stickers on my chair! Hard wearing and a distinct mark of my personality. The bags are a must but at much harder to work on a high backed power chair. There is not any space underneath due to your batteries. I use a bag a similar size to yours on my lap, but it has a detachable variable length shoulder strap which I use like a bumbag strap round my waist to stop the bag sliding off my lap. This was the best idea I had on the bag front! It also means no one can easily swipe my bag from my lap!
Your lighted caster wheels would be great for the wheels on my power chair great for visibility when crossing streets being a double amputee thing like lighted wheels give a feeling of better security
Ou this is SO helpful!! Currently fighting with insurance for my custom wheelchair. They claim chronic lower back pain is not a permanent disability lol. So currently house-bound... But we will eventually get it even if insurance doesn't budge ... (like a 23 year old wants to be in a wheelchair. if I didn't didn't it, I wouldn't be asking for it. And I can think of better ways to spend 11K on.. travelling?!) Thank you for keeping this positive and optimistic. It's just another tool to help me survive.
Amy Arthur Suppose it depends what causes lower back pain I know that some lower back pain is treatable if due to lack of core strength but incurable if caused by a spinal problem lol
Yeah currently it's nerve damage and i had microfractures at the start of the injury. AND i was a competitive gymnast lol my core is stronger than most...
Hi, huge thanks for the video. I watch lots of your video's as I am still at the hate stage of why me? but your video's show me that I can see light at the end of the tunnel of having to use a wheelchair.
I would recommend buggy or stroller bag clips, they are basically a D clip on a secure velcro strap that will strap around the wheelchair handles, this then allows you to easily hang any bag either by the strap, handles or I prefer by the metal loops that attach the bag, you can also hang things like carrier bags from them, it also makes it easier on your pusher as the bags can be adjusted to hang in a more convenient place so they don't hit their legs (I bought mine in the uk from amazon for aboyt £6). I have also used cup clips designed for pushchairs/ strollers to carry a bottle on the front wheel bar which makes for easy access. For my wheelchair emergency pack, I always have wet wipes as they make a quick hand clean and are a godsend in winter when leaves cover doggy do, i also recommend carrying on a keyring a medication canister on it, so if you for some reason are out and have forgotten pills you're always covered. My last suggestion is neoprene sailing gloves, i have found these to be far better waring than wheelchair gloves, and more comfortable as you can get them tipless but the thumb covered fully. Because they are designed for sailing ropes they are hard wearing in the grip areas making it far more comfortable when trying to control your wheelchair. i bought mine from a rope shop just off covent garden in london but they are avalible from places dealing with sailing equipment and probably amazon. I found that for a £20 investment i had gloves that lasted me four times the length of wheelchair gloves and suited my needs far better.
Welcome to the cool rollers, we only accept those with ultimate pimped out modes of transport! The only issue I have had since writing this comment with my cup holder is that I need a second for the pushing slave! As I end up getting sloshed over as he high speeds it with his drink safe and sound! That said I have since invested in a can saver, that seals my drink and prevents the slave covering me in it whilst he pretends he is driving a Grand Prix car around the streets of London! I was trying to think if there was anything else from my walker days that may be of use to you, other than the obligatory go faster stripes and spike to move the road blockers out of the way. The one thing I found the most helpful was one of those small body bags with several pockets and I made sure to always have stashed in it things I would need if I had a fall etc, so extra pills, painkillers, plasters, phone, a tiny note pad and pen and a bit of cash and a couple hard boiled sweets. I always have a pad and pen for writing numbers if I needed help that sort of thing. I also go now are without hand wipes or baby wipes, just a couple in a ziplock bag and hand sanitiser on a key ring as my hands were forever getting grubby and getting them clean could be a nightmare in some places. I live in the uk so that bag also has my taxi card and taxi money and the universal disabled toilet key. To secure said bag to make it easy to detach I used two Velcro cable ties (zip ties would also work but choose thick ones) that held two d clips on the desired rung and chose a bag that had loops connecting the bag to the handle, which clipped onto the d clips perfectly. I have updated this bag to suit my wheelchair needs so it has additions like a tool kit for emergency maintenance for example oh and a spare set of keys which has been helpful several times on getting locked out. My other suggestion would be for anyone who is a bit more vulnerable and that is to carry one of those really loud rape alarms, whilst handy if attacked they also work really well if you have a fall as the noise will raise attention to you. I do not know if any of this is of any use to your already trendy set up but just in case it is or it might inspire a different addition that suits your own needs Take good care of you, watch out for speed cameras as you zip along with drink secured! With best wishes Lindz
@LindzBrewer thank you , better be careful with being sloshed with drinks I ended up burning my thigh when I was using wheelchair my dad gave me tea to hold and pushed me over a bump 💀
Oh wow. I wanted something under the seat and all the ones I saw were open and I didn't feel good about that. I was afraid stuff would fall out. The fanny pack idea is BRILLIANT! Thanks!
I ALWAYS have a backpack on my wheelchair! I alternate between a massive lime green one that my laptop fits in, an average sized one that has elephants all over it and cute key rings on, and then a tiny red one that’s perfect for nights out but also has cute key rings on it. I love being able to customised my wheelchair! My favourite addition is bike lights on the front and back. I’ve got two little white ones on the arms that hold the foot plate, two red ones on the back, and then I have a bigger white light on the front that is angled down so I can see the ground as I really struggle to see at night. Chronically Jaquie used some Pink spoke wraps that she got from amazon to make her wheels more “her”, and she also has some purple Rim covers for better grip :)
bike bag attachments are great, too! plenty of waterproof situations for strapping onto wherever feels safe and comfy to you> there are triangle wedge bags that cyclists have for the middle of the frame, and stuff meant to strap on to handlebars also if you use a cane or forearm crutches, bike torch mounts/flashlight clips are about perfect for attaching to the back of your chair hydrapack (like a camelbak thing) is also not a bad idea to put in a backpack, or even just like a mesh pouch behind backpack (I get dehydrated super easily and refilling water bottle/reaching for it/finding where to put it/opening while moving is all challenging for me) I find most of this stuff on ebay, (even local used online like craigslist-- stroller and bike stuff is A+) i love the under bag idea, this gets my brain going. and the spokes! wonderful!! cant wait to try some new ideas
I'm currently looking into getting a chair, and slowly saving up. This video has really helped with how I can customise it with functional things! I've seen lots of specific chair accessories but they are v.expensive, but DIY hacks have got my creativity flowing! Thank you!
I want a "lap bag" !!!! Even for able bodied ppl.maybe with a strap to sling around ur body but could sit it in ur lap somehow too! Or maybe one for aheelchair users that sit higher up on thise back ans converts to a standing "lap bag"like hers!!!!Super cool stuff!!! Thanks for sharing
Hi Gem, I am so glad you popped up on my You Tube homepage. Great advice also. I hadn't thought of a bag underneath me so have a bit of sewing to do I think. I also need to make a side bag as I think that will be more useful to me. I did make the mistake of buying a bag for the back of my wheelchair without measuring so its far too big but on the upside I can get lots of shopping in it. I call it my boot and shopkeepers I meet for the first time do give me funny looks when i ask them to please put my shopping in my boot. Hugs and Loves xxxx
What I used was a cloth fishing tackle box with loop hole straps on top of box and then used valcro bundle type velcro straps feed them threw and attached to front underseat bar with velcro straps.did it on power wheelchair.
I’ve just started using a wheelchair in shopping centres where I can hire one, but because they vary so much in shape and size, I’ve started using a bike basket that I can just simply hook over the back of the seat. I don’t put any valuables in there, but it’s good for water bottle and some shopping bags
I have a titanium frame and my OT and vendor advised against getting a coloured frame partly for the reason you mentioned, which I think is good because I probably would get sick of it and of people commenting on the colour, and also it wouldn’t always match what I’m wearing especially at something more formal... I’d rather save the freedom of expression with my clothing choices. And they also suggested not getting it painted because with titanium, you can just buff off scratches whereas with paint, a scratch is a scratch. From experience I will also say that if you have a lot in your backpack and it’s heavy, watch your center of gravity especially when going up hills. 🙈
I usually strap my lap bag around my waist to stop it slipping. Love the bumbag idea, I've got a large under-seat bag but everything gets messed up in there because there are no pockets.
I am a polio survivor. And I have been dealing with mobility and issue my entire life. I need another w-chair, and I will plan to accessorize it so I won't keep dropping things. Every single dad-gum day. Don't despair over w/chair dirt. Mine needs a good power-washing.
Love your Mickey Mouse rucksack! I've never managed to get on with having a bag on my lap, they always fall off. But, I've found that a shoulder bag with a longer strap (or a cross body bag with the strap shortened) can work really well sat on my lap with the strap round my waist. I didn't get on with the calf strap my wheelchair came with, so I've sewn different coloured fabric to velcro for a pop of colour on my black frame! Xx
I'll try and find you a photo on Instagram for you. I hung a Christmas themed bunting from the back bar of my chair this year - I've seen the same done with a flower wreath. Not something I can do at the moment, as I need a rucksack on the back of my chair to act as a changing bag. But when my little one is bigger and I don't need to carry round a rucksack, I'll add some flowers. Xx
I’ve only just found you and I’m going to enjoy watching all your back videos! My wheelchair is bright green (...and my calliper was bright pink at the time!) with black accents and it suits my personality well! I have made a basic cover for my chair (also in green!), to keep it dry when it’s raining as I live in England and it rains a lot! I have put a reflective yellow ‘snap’ style bracelet on the centre hub of each wheel and I wear a super fashionable (not!) reflective silver cyclists jacket when I’m out at night to make me more visible to cars as where I live doesn’t have dropped kerbs so I have to go in the road. I also use bike lights (when I remember!) Also my back tyres are marathon plus tyres and have reflective tape on both sides of the tyre, I think the more visible you are at night to other vehicles the better! Just like people wear bracelets I hang ‘happy things’ from my back bar (I use a rigid frame w/c!) If your stickers leave sticky on your chair it comes off easily with baby oil. Also if you can get used to not wearing gloves, your hands get calloused and you don’t need to wear them. I have a couple of small bags underneath my seat that came with the chair, I keep an inner tube and anti-germ wipes in one and waterproof cover and shopping bag in the other! My wheelchair upholstery has a zip pocket on the back (my wheelchair is by Quickie) that holds a pencil case with tools in (...and money, hair ties, a pen, gaffa tape, superglue, etc - I’m good at breaking things!), a bottle of pain medicine, a drink, etc... ...it holds loads! When I go shopping I can put a bag of groceries on my footrest and hold it on with the calf strap (back) and the weight of my legs (front)! I was advised that a carbon fibre w/c wouldn’t be any good to me as I don’t have access to a car and so I go everywhere in my chair and I’m quite hard on it (as it’s really fun going fast downhill!!!) and that it’s easy to snap carbon fibre (...I’m not so good at stopping) and its not possible to weld it back together, but it would be lovely if my chair was lighter in weight :) Sorry for the long comment, your videos are really good, thank you :)
Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard if only it was carbon fibre... (I’ve been told it would be hard to repair carbon fibre if it breaks - and almost everything on my wheelchair has had to be repaired - ...I like going fast!)
I only found out recently that carbon fiber is a material that can be used for wheelchair frames, but since having a rather negative experience with carbon fiber trekking poles (that were a big name brand, no less, so supposedly top quality) - one just up and snapped on me in the middle of crossing a river while backpacking, and I had to pull more than one splinter out of my hand - I've decided that for me personally, I could never have a w/c frame made with it because it honestly just isn't very strong, and gets brittle over time from all the stress and vibration, like aluminum. I'm hoping to get a titanium frame for my very first custom this summer - it's lighter than aluminum, but also way stronger and dampens the vibrations a bit.
If you get the white sticker residue to get it off just hit it for a few seconds with a hair dryer and the glue will get soft so you can peel it easily! Thanks for the tips on hand bags!
I have to use a wheel chair for the next 2 months, I saw this video and learned that I need to make a bag for my chair so that I don’t have to go to my locker between classes
I took the basket/bag bit off of my walking frame and attached it to the underneath of my chair seeing as it's much easier to carry a bag on the seat of a walker than on your lap, I couldn't get on with using a bigger bag and I have a rigid chair so I can just undo the poppers and reattach to any of the 3 crossbars the front is attached about halfway between my footplate and seat with some hooked bungee chord (though I can move it if I need it to be more secure/accessible you have more placement options if you have longer legs than I do) I make sure I always have my Alan keys a few spare bits and an adjustable spanner in there since my chair is almost 10 years old and has had a rough life bits like to come loose 😂 it's been a lifesaver on many occasions! I also have a cupholder and a headlight and rear lights since I'm a student and spend a lot of time out in the dark going either to/from the 24hour asda and co op when it's quiet and I don't have to interact with people or to pubs and clubs when I do feel up to a social life, I also have reflective tape on my back bar, footplate and reflectors on my wheels because I still had the hedgehog ones from primary school when the police came in and did the whole be safe, be seen thing for walk to school week and they're cute
This is awesome! I have an LV Speedy B 25... And I hate to give it up, it's my favorite bag. Been trying to figure out how I'm gonna carry it besides on my lap...
My wheelchair is hot pink or I guess rather fuchsia. I’m thinking about my next chair and what color I want. Mine came with both a under seat bag and backpack. I love it.
I’m fortunate in that I’m able to stand up as long as there is something for me to hold onto. I just keep my wallet in my back pocket. I keep my phone in a shirt pocket.
Carbon Fiber Wow , I was so excited when I got my Titanium . I have 2 chairs with a third one coming in Fedex tomorrow . My old chairs are USA made . The new one is Chinese , should be interesting . If you pop off the tires and foot rest , its supposed to be 13.5 pounds . My favorite mod is the beverage holder . I'm missing ny right leg , so I had a perfect place th mount the holder . My bag under the seat stores my gloves , inner tube , tools , air pump and more . I do carry a army green shoulder bag , I carry nothing in my pockets . I have upgraded all 4 tires . The new chinese chair is for keeping in my car ,with heart failure , the titanum rigid chair is so hard to load , I usally have to take a nitroglyserin before im done .
Love the undercarriage i have a backpack from wheelchair gear its so nice and dosent look like the standard rectangle wheelchair bag I have a cup holder ive tried so many but just got one from ram mount that's hopefully going to last Last thing is the gloves i have a stuff sac to put them in my favourite are suregrip full fingers by global leather
I have a rolator , I put a havasak on the front by tightening the strap around the legs , it sits just under the seat for books and such I tyed it on at the front just so I don't loose it if it happens to fall off , I have the under the seat bag that came with it , I have made a seat cosions witch is just a peice of foam with fabric over and 4 bits of ribbon attached to it to the seat bit and I painted it with orange and green wiggles , I have bought a buggy cup holder in bright orange of Amazon witch is also on there I fabric glued some scraps of fleece in green to the handles so I can still hold it when I'm sweaty because plastic mobility aids sweat out of your hands , and I sewed a tube In a scrap of orange fabric and put it on the back rest and secured it with some adhesive pads because it slides about a bit :))))
Before I was super symptomatic I was into spray painting. So when I had to start to use a wheelchair I painted the wheels/wheel cover galaxy and the other metal parts a teal colour. We also sewed a galaxy fabric onto the cushions. Can you tell I love the galaxy theme? But it completely changed my perspective on my wheel chair from a burden to a “fashion accessory” type thing
I just bought the Pacsafe LX400 backpack in black. There are lots of anti-theft features and the front pocket comes off and turns into a purse! I also have the Tilite bag that goes underneath my chair, but it's not my favourite. Is CF lighter than titanium?
I use personally wheelchair over arm pannier bags on my attendant chair I just wish I could clip my walking stick at the side and had more design choice of pannier bags is surely someone out there could design and produce a robust wheelchair walking stick quick clamp so those who need a stick to transfer do not have to perilously try to bance a stick between your legs while its being pushed. I love sticking a few self adhesive reflectors on my chair makes my chair more visible in dark and transfering out of a vehicle at night
I like that anyone can get one. No abled person who just needs a piss is gonna go to the hassle of ordering a RADAR key online, but you can bet there's plenty of disabled ppl out there sighing w relief that they didn't need to prove their disability and jump through more of the many hoops that life as a disabled person demands.
I am only thirty and I am confined to my wheelchair due to generalized dystonia. I did not have this until two years ago, and I have had to give up everything that I enjoyed. Including golf. I can’t even talk. Maybe I can get my voice back but I doubt that I will ever get to walk again
Hey Michelle. I hope you get the rehab that you need. It is possible to play golf from a chair (depending how strong and how much movement you have) xx
Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard maybe in the summer you can do a summer outfit one please I went and watched the spring video but I would love ❤️ and summer one in the nicer weather
Ah yes! ;) I had a really good anti sweat cushion on my old chair. it was really good. Ill see if i can find it and get the details on it. x I also have one that is like a honey comb inside. so it helps with air circulation. Not tried it though as its so hard. x
I just have an underseat pouch, but my seat sling has a sleeve underneath for my phone Jaquie doesn't have spinergy wheels, she put spoke guards on TiShadow wheels! Super cheap hack!!
Just search up Amazon for bicycle spoke covers! I got a pack for 75 for $15 which was more than enough for my chair and plenty of spares in case they get gross and need replacing.
Rachel Lazenby Yeah I'm getting a tilite chair but I stole the spoke skin idea from chronically jacquie too.Rather than spending money on spinergies since we're paying for my whole chair out of pocket, that's what I'll do to add a pop of color.
I use a drawstring bag under my chair to hold my laptop and school supplies. I can't put those things on my back bc my chair would tip over! Also, I have a bicycle light under my chair (it's just a little strip). You can check out my IG @princeofcanes if you want to see my chair
As for the lights that Chronically Ill Jackie has, they are bicycle lights, however you might also like tetragear.com lights as well a little more pricey, however you can be seen at night so you don't have to worry about being hit by a car.
Hi, I have a wheel chair but I desperately need a new one but I don't know what to get. yours looks amazing and I was wondering what type and company did you get it form. I only ask because your wheel chair has a lot of padding which I need and the wheels are bigger and easier to reach for my hands. also it has space for things while mine doesn't. If anyone else could help that would be great.
My chair is GOLD PLATED colours switchblade so.... I get the idea of upping the look it makes you feel better on using it. I always wanted gold, but never got it till now(8years into using a chair) I rather pepole say WOOOOW or Wtf is that?! - then OHHHH AWWW POOR YOU
Hey Leo!!! That’s such a good idea. No this is not an NHS wheelchair. But I’ll talk about someways that you can get help from the nhs for a wheelchair. X
Colours for bags tie Dye pink/lilacs pastel blues . GALAXY DESIGN UNICORN DESIGNS PASTEL AND BRIGHTS COLOURS . DENIM DINOSAURS Disney material flowers mixed or Roses dophins Sea life. I too had few ideas for my wheelchair electric or manual . Would love to maybe talk about collaboration.. I have wanted to make things for kids aswell as..adults of all ages. Hope Gem to hear from you soon Suzanne Smith
I have a stupid question, sooo what if some would try to steal your bag or sthg is there any tips you have to make it safe to carry a bag with you? I hope this question isn’t that stupid 😅❤️
Its a good question, and something I think about all the time. When I put the bag on the back, I never have anything of value in it. If someone is pushing me Then I might. I always keep my valuables on my lap or in the "under carriage." :)
@@Wheelsnoheels I've also seen it recommended to use an under seat bag when traveling in places where there are pickpockets - basically impossible for someone to steal something out of it.
Lamentablemte en Argentina es muy dificil tener una silla de ruedas buena, no te imaginas lo dificil que puede llegar a ser tener allgo personalizado. Me angustia vivir en este Pais y no poder obtener lo que merezco. Saludos.
WHEN MY PARTNER TAKE ME OUT IN MY WHEELCHAIR I USE THE SEAT BELTS AND I THREAD THE HANDLES OF MY HANDBAG THROUGH THE SEAT BELT JST INCASE SOMEONE CAN SWIPE IT OF YOUR LAP ,LIKE I SAID IN YOUR OTHER VIDEO IAM ONLY A BEGINNER,IAM 63 🌝GEM YOU DO COME UP WITH GD IDEAS MY DEAR I NEED TO BUILD MY ARM MUSSELS UP AS WELL YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY TAKE CARE GEM
They are, However I have had the LV bag for Years and it was a gift. I also worked extremely hard to raise money for my chair. I was very fortunate to get help with paying for the cost. I have done a whole video raising awareness on the "true cost of being disabled." Its quite a good one. Please feel free to share it on your socials so we can raise awareness. :)
Oh wow. I wanted something under the seat and all the ones I saw were open and I didn't feel good about that. I was afraid stuff would fall out. The fanny pack idea is BRILLIANT! Thanks!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments and tips. Your chairs and customisation ideas are super cool. Please feel free to send me a pic on IG or Twitter as I would love to see, xx
If you really want to build a community you may want to check out Virtual Ability in Second Life. VirtualAbility.org
the under bag is the only one I do not do as I am in a power chair that reclines and stuff.
Im glad you are from the uk i dont feel alone now because im in the uk and traveling is a pain
I love that there are customisation ideas. and its nice its a reflection of your personality. feel free to share a pic with me on twitter or IG. xxx
I have a friend who feels the exact same way about her walker. Too funny.
Hell yeah!! You gotta express yourself someway
Ah thank you. She is welcome to get in touch by email. always happy to help. xx
Goo gone is the best for removing stickers or decals on your wheelchair without any sticky residue left behind 🤗
Beverley Butterfly Do you have the drive blue streak? I do and it is SO hard to push.
@@emiliesmith5032 it really is! plus the little plastic pieces on the seat frame broke within a month and cost a stupid amount to replace😬
I am now proudly sporting a bum bag under my chair - great idea! Thought I was going to have to spend a fortune getting a specialist bag xx
Oh yay!!!! Im so glad it worked for you!! xx
Yeah bumbags are a grate idea. OO you will have to tweet me a pic of your chair, I'm intrigued now. ;)
I use a cross body bag as well and drop the strap down around my waist as well 🙂
Your lighted caster wheels would be great for the wheels on my power chair great for visibility when crossing streets being a double amputee thing like lighted wheels give a feeling of better security
I hope you get what you need. xx
Ooo thank you, some grate tips there. xx
Yesss I have a buggy cup holder on my Wheely walker and it's excellent
I do not know if any of this is of any use to your already trendy set up but just in case it is or it might inspire a different addition that suits your own needs
Take good care of you, watch out for speed cameras as you zip along with drink secured!
With best wishes
Lindz
Oh wow your chair sounds super cool. You will have to send me a pic on IG or Twitter if you like. xx
bike bag attachments are great, too! plenty of waterproof situations for strapping onto wherever feels safe and comfy to you> there are triangle wedge bags that cyclists have for the middle of the frame, and stuff meant to strap on to handlebars
also if you use a cane or forearm crutches, bike torch mounts/flashlight clips are about perfect for attaching to the back of your chair
hydrapack (like a camelbak thing) is also not a bad idea to put in a backpack, or even just like a mesh pouch behind backpack (I get dehydrated super easily and refilling water bottle/reaching for it/finding where to put it/opening while moving is all challenging for me)
I find most of this stuff on ebay, (even local used online like craigslist-- stroller and bike stuff is A+)
i love the under bag idea, this gets my brain going. and the spokes! wonderful!! cant wait to try some new ideas
I'm currently looking into getting a chair, and slowly saving up. This video has really helped with how I can customise it with functional things! I've seen lots of specific chair accessories but they are v.expensive, but DIY hacks have got my creativity flowing! Thank you!
ah thank you. Well if you come up with any new hacks be sure to let us all know. I hope you get a new chair soon. xxx
Just got my first wheelchair and while it's not a very high quality one, I do want to customize it and make it mine. I've got plans for it!
Nice to see you sweetheart I love your voice you look like such a fun adventurous person love you
thank you xx
This was very helpful, thank you for sharing, I am definitely getting that bag underneath.
Yay that.s Feel free to share a pic. x
What I used was a cloth fishing tackle box with loop hole straps on top of box and then used valcro bundle type velcro straps feed them threw and attached to front underseat bar with velcro straps.did it on power wheelchair.
aww love your videos i have a neck injury and its nice not to feel alone and frumpy as your soo pretty and fun xxxx
I’ve just started using a wheelchair in shopping centres where I can hire one, but because they vary so much in shape and size, I’ve started using a bike basket that I can just simply hook over the back of the seat. I don’t put any valuables in there, but it’s good for water bottle and some shopping bags
I use a wheelchair and I am 12 and feel alone but this really helps me thank you so much
I have a titanium frame and my OT and vendor advised against getting a coloured frame partly for the reason you mentioned, which I think is good because I probably would get sick of it and of people commenting on the colour, and also it wouldn’t always match what I’m wearing especially at something more formal...
Yay hope it works for you. x
Im glad that you are from the uk aswell i dont feel alone
The undercarriage bag is genius!
Got my wheelchair today and I’m really looking forward to decorating it. Lol.
Oh yay. send me a pic on insta if you like. x
Xx
awww thanks. OOOoo id love to see it. X
Just like people wear bracelets I hang ‘happy things’ from my back bar (I use a rigid frame w/c!)
If your stickers leave sticky on your chair it comes off easily with baby oil.
I was advised that a carbon fibre w/c wouldn’t be any good to me as I don’t have access to a car and so I go everywhere in my chair and I’m quite hard on it (as it’s really fun going fast downhill!!!) and that it’s easy to snap carbon fibre (...I’m not so good at stopping) and its not possible to weld it back together, but it would be lovely if my chair was lighter in weight :)
Sorry for the long comment, your videos are really good, thank you :)
Hi welcome to my channel. Really good to have you. Wow your wheelchair sounds so cool. xxx
SnowySpiritRuby
Titanium sounds perfect, alas it’s not in my financial capability, if it was I would definitely be going for one!
You said "grok"! YAY! Also, I've been enjoying your vids. Getting my first wheelchair in a few weeks.
Oh no I just ordered a yellow chair. My favourite colour. Lol. Xx
I can't imagine relying on a wheelchair all the time. But, you just keep going and live your life.
Michelle Tackett It ain't that bad people's attitudes are the problem...not supplying a ramp, treating you like a second class citizen etc
wow grate advice Gem by the way sports bag for me on the back since im a girl on the go
yay! xxx
I would recommend this to anyone
Aw I’ve just watched this and when you mentioned Jacqui there was a sense of sadness knowing she is no longer here 😔❤️
If you get the white sticker residue to get it off just hit it for a few seconds with a hair dryer and the glue will get soft so you can peel it easily! Thanks for the tips on hand bags!
I've been using a regular backpack for my chair for a while. It can fit everything I need.
I always keep a bag on the back of mine but never thought of one underneath!! I've just discovered you and your channel and I already love you❤️
I have to use a wheel chair for the next 2 months, I saw this video and learned that I need to make a bag for my chair so that I don’t have to go to my locker between classes
Love the undercarriage i have a backpack from wheelchair gear its so nice and dosent look like the standard rectangle wheelchair bag
I have a cup holder ive tried so many but just got one from ram mount that's hopefully going to last
Last thing is the gloves i have a stuff sac to put them in my favourite are suregrip full fingers by global leather
The Louis does work perfect!!!!!! 😏😏😏👍👍👍👍👍😊😊😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ take note Louis!!! If only we could all afford one!! Bahahaha
Its been a really good bag. It was a gift, and I defo couldn't afford one myself. ;)
I am having a new wheelchair in December with black spoke guards. This way I can customise with stickers.
I use a cross body bag or back pack for a hand bag and a backpack on back of wheel chair for persobak care things
I just bought the Pacsafe LX400 backpack in black. There are lots of anti-theft features and the front pocket comes off and turns into a purse! I also have the Tilite bag that goes underneath my chair, but it's not my favourite.
Is CF lighter than titanium?
yes cb is lighter. OOO ill have to check the bass out. or do you have a link? x
Ugh. Your mention of Jacquie hit me out of nowhere. 💔 She's been gone almost a year now. Can't believe it.
There are really cheap loopy silicon bike lights at decathlon which I just thought about I'm going to take off my bike and put on my wheels :)
4:37 In South Africa we call it a moon bag.
I've got a RADAR key. Not sure I should say where you get them from as it seems here anyone can get them which is worrying lol!! Mine was £3.00
Rae -The Tea and Book Lady what's a radar key? What function does it serve?
You should do a outfits in a wheelchair I no you have done a winter ❄️ on but it would be nice for a updated one please
OoooOOo have you see this? th-cam.com/video/A-eaoXgFpdg/w-d-xo.html spring wheelchair outfit guide. Let me know what you think :)
Not tried it though as its so hard. x
Yes for sure. I loved filming the outfit guides so I'm glad you asked. Is there anything specific you would like me to show/talk about. x
Thanks for listening love you 😍
I just have an underseat pouch, but my seat sling has a sleeve underneath for my phone
Jaquie doesn't have spinergy wheels, she put spoke guards on TiShadow wheels! Super cheap hack!!
Ooo ill have to check that hack. xxx
Just search up Amazon for bicycle spoke covers! I got a pack for 75 for $15 which was more than enough for my chair and plenty of spares in case they get gross and need replacing.
I will thank you . x
You can get them off eBay dead cheap just look for BMX/motorcross spoke sleeves I got 80 for £6.50 in baby pink
Rachel Lazenby Yeah I'm getting a tilite chair but I stole the spoke skin idea from chronically jacquie too.Rather than spending money on spinergies since we're paying for my whole chair out of pocket, that's what I'll do to add a pop of color.
Where can I get bottle holder for a wheelchair
Been waiting 3 months going on 4 for my new wheelchair.
I use a drawstring bag under my chair to hold my laptop and school supplies. I can't put those things on my back bc my chair would tip over! Also, I have a bicycle light under my chair (it's just a little strip). You can check out my IG @princeofcanes if you want to see my chair
Oh thank you I will. xxx
Just looked is soooo cool. Im jel.
As for the lights that Chronically Ill Jackie has, they are bicycle lights, however you might also like tetragear.com lights as well a little more pricey, however you can be seen at night so you don't have to worry about being hit by a car.
Aw jaquie
I am a part time wheel chair user and I am interested in how everyone else accessorize their wheels.
My wheelchair is neon pink and I am just as in love with it now as I was two years ago :)
My chair is GOLD PLATED colours switchblade so.... I get the idea of upping the look it makes you feel better on using it.
I always wanted gold, but never got it till now(8years into using a chair) I rather pepole say WOOOOW or Wtf is that?! - then OHHHH AWWW POOR YOU
Thank you for the tips. Just btw, "fanny" also means bum or butt in the U.S, so it's essentially the same name as a bum bag.
Did you get your wheelchair on the nhs? Any chance you can make a video on the process that you went through and the options you where given please 😊💕
Hey Leo!!! That’s such a good idea. No this is not an NHS wheelchair. But I’ll talk about someways that you can get help from the nhs for a wheelchair. X
Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard awesome 😊
I’ve finally recently been referred to my local wheelchair service, I’m excited to get my independence back! X
What chair is this brand please
There seems to be a lot less customisation available on powerchairs in terms of looks.
Sarah Camley I TOTALLY agree! I recently ordered my first power chair and as I am looking for accessories and stuff it is really w
Thats interesting. I don't know much about electric chairs. :S
@@Wheelsnoheels i think part o this is the inability to change out tires and whatnot

Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard thanks for your answer I think that under carriage thing is really a good idea.Maybe I’ll try that too -Mc ❤️
@@Wheelsnoheels I've also seen it recommended to use an under seat bag when traveling in places where there are pickpockets - basically impossible for someone to steal something out of it.

Jackie doesnt have spinergy in pink, they are black, but she put Spoke covers in pink -spoke skins
Jaquie's actually weren't Spinergy
I have a back pack on the back of my wheelchair
If you change your mind for colours just buy car vinyls... that’s what I do.
Do you always have your phone in your bag, it in your jacket or even in the pocket of your pants (if there are pockets)
What's the best way for you?
always have my phone! If I'm out in my coat pocket or my lap bag. If I'm in the ouse, its in my hoody kangaroo much. xx
Anyone have any good tips on how to get things off shelves in the store without having to ask for help??
Actually I never had friends who are just like me. I just make this out of ducktap for help me in my life.
Anybody here encounter folks, esp. doctors, who just cannot wrap their heads around the fact that there are folks in wheelchairs and they live alone.
Louis Vitton, Sinergy wheels and carbon fibre are way too expensive for some one who relies on benefits
