Pro Tip: Use stroller accessories instead. They are cheaper and work equally as well on a wheelchair or rollator/walker. *Backpack:* I have a diaper bag backpack that has two D rings on top. You can hang the backpack off the back of your chair using large 3" carabiner clips. On the back of my seat (Jay J3) there are 3 sets of holes in the metal backing. The top set of holes is only 1/2" from where the backing ends so you can hook 2 smaller carabiner clips through the holes to hang the backpack from leaving your handles free. I also use a rollator so I got some large stroller hooks that velcro on so I could hang the backpack from the front bar using the carabiner clips. Bonus of using a diaper bag: its very roomy, it has insulated pockets meant for bottles, it has a special pocket just for wipes and it has a hole and pocket meant for a portable USB charger or headphones but would also work for medical tubes. It also came with a waterproof diaper changing pad you can use to sit on if needed. *Under seat bag:* There are smaller stroller bags you can hang under your seat behind your legs that works great for valuables, wallet, etc that makes it easy to get to so you're not turning around to dig through your backpack for frequently needed items (I keep a foldable cane in mine) plus its more secure from thievery. It has velcro straps on each side and D rings you can hang from carabiner clips off your side struts. *Drink/phone holder:* I have a cup holder meant for a stroller so it can clamp on to a 1" diameter bar on your wheelchair. They can be adjusted 360° so I have mine on one of the side struts of my wheelchair just above the small caster wheel. There are also stroller ipad/phone holders you can use to attach to your arm rests so they are in easy reach and can use hands free. *Stroller Hooks/Clips:* They velcro on so you can attach to hang bags, groceries, keys, portable speaker etc. I got a bunch of travel spray bottles that hang on a carabiner clip keychain. I hang them on a stroller clip and inside have alcohol, hand sanitizer and bike tire cleaner along with a stiff brush to clean dirt, mud & oil off my wheels. They also have other stroller accessories like umbrellas, lights, reflectors, and fans that can be used just as easily on a wheelchair.
As a tubie and TPN user - it’s not just about hanging the feed and fluid bags but about being able to easily access the pumps without having to take everything out so it be best to either have separate pouch with window or have it at the front of the bag or back
That was helpful thank you! I am temporarily in a wheel chair. It was nice to appreciate other people's challenges and perspectives and my husband want a bag for the back of my wheelchair, so thank you. God Bless you!
I’ve had mine for 2 years. The clipped pocket is insulated. The bags seriously waterproof it’s handled the Australian heavy UV rays really well. I recommend to everyone it’s a perfect bag.
Hi Christina,my name is Barry from the UK! I lost touch with your video's! I changed phones & lost a lot of people I followed! I knew you had a hearing loss & wore two hearing aids & had your leg amputated below the knee! But I finally found you again! You now have lost more of your leg now above the knee & your hearing got so bad you got a cochlear implant! Had a baby & no glasses now! I know this is a back pack video but I could not find a video on your cochlear implant surgery or the activation! Only you were getting one & now you got one! I love the colour! The white suits you! I have worn hearing aids for nearly 30 yrs! Up until around 6 weeks ago I had a severe to profound hearing loss but suddenly I lost nearly all my hearing & few muffled sounds & words! I am waiting to get new powerful hearing aids free through the UK health service if they don't work the next step may well be a CI! Another UK lady I know suddenly lost her hearing at 21 through menieres disease! One ear went one day the other a few days later! She managed to get hearing aids but they did not help! This was 6 mths ago! She was fast tracked for a CI in one ear! She had the implant 2 weeks ago & will get activated beginning of November! But what we both would like to know what does speech sound like through a CI as she had normal hearing to 6mths ago! Can you understand people & does it sound robotic? I am asking as you know what nearly normal hearing sounds like! I know all CI users are different but I hope you don't mind me asking! Thank you! As for your leg i cannot believe it started off with a crushed foot & you were brave to have the leg amputated below the knee! I remember you singing the praise of the I walk & how it helped you get around! But to lose more of your leg above the knee can't have been easy & learning to walk again! You were lucky in a way there is enough stump left to work with! I wear a KAFO as my left leg is so weak but the doctor did say if my blood supply below the knee gets worse they may have to amputate in the future! Sorry to ramble on! I am glad I found you again I have lots of videos to watch & comment on! I hope your new leg & CI working well! 💜💜💜
I would think the best bet would be to put small loops for a chair and padded loops for your back. Maybe have the padded loops detachable so you can take them off.
Thank you so much for all of your videos. I am a recent amputee and they have helped me tremendously. Quick question, what type of wheel chair do you have? Thanks so much!
It could possibly be used for tubes for either oxygen, or feeding tubes. Although, I believe both have their own bags for mobile use. (I know my oxygen one did, it was literally the size of the oxygen cannister, and had rucksack style straps) But one would question whether the feeding tube could be disconnected the machine end to push through the hole, obviously the patient end could not be easily removed to use the bag. Pretty sure I recall the tubing for the oxygen could be removed cannister end, but as I said, that has its own bag already. Other than that, I’m about as in the dark as your good self.
Very cool backpack option. I also love the medical equipment tag you have, that's super smart and I definitely need one. Do you happen to remember where you got yours? Thanks
I'd really like to know what wheelchair you have. My insurance company gave me a $200.00 chair and it's a pain and a half. It's heavy, I can't get over curbs, it slips on the painted crosswalks, etc. Please, will you send us a link to where you purchased yours?
OK so after many years of carting my stuff around on the back kf my wheelchair my advise is this. 1 Forget wheelchair manufacturers accessories: they are over priced and not actually any better. 2 Be brutally honest with yourself about the stuff you will need: lots of pockets seem good but can complicate things and make packing harder than it needs to be, plus lots of bags with exterior pockets are strange lumpy shapes. 3 Security is important. If it's valuable think twice about hanging it on the back of your chair: I have had items stolen from bags that are to easy to open or cut. 4 Find a bag that fits your needs. Never worry about the straps as you won't need them: buy a cheap adjustable luggage strap and pass it through your shoulder straps and around your chair in any configuration that works for you. No rubbing, no problem. 5 Water: it seems obvious but I carry things which need to stay dry. But it's not just rain water can spray off your tyres and splash upwards much more than if you were 6 Balance: again it seems obvious but my last tip is try to make sure you don't tip. Too much weight in the wrong place can make for tired out arms.
Be carefull using anything on the back of the chair. If they are loaded just a bit one can push like they normally do but due to the extra weight, the chair can start to flip over backwatds. Dont ask me how i know.
Backpacks for my chair is a lot easier as I just a large tilt in space chair. How cope with the though of people take your backpack. as I can not see behind me, locks etc are no good, I have to many problems with my back for a strap around the seat.
I got a diaper bag backpack meant for a stroller. It has regular straps and on top it has two D rings. It came with some small plastic hooks that velcro onto a bar type handle but I didn't use them. Instead I added two large 3 inch carabiner clips onto the D rings of the backpack. On the back of the seat on my wheelchair there are 3 sets of holes in the metal part. The very top set of holes is about 1/2" from the end of the metal backing so I was able to hook two smaller 2 inch carabiner clips through those holes that stay there all the time. To unhook the backpack to wear just take it off from the carabiner clips. I use a rollator to walk so I got some large stroller hooks that velcro on to hang the backpack off the front bar of the rollator. Then just hook the carabiner clips over the hooks. The diaper backpack works really well and looks nice. Bonus of using a diaper bag, it has roomy inner pockets with insulated lining meant for keeping bottles warm and has a special pocket just for wipes. Mine also has a pocket and hole meant for a portable USB charger or headphones but can also be used for various medical tubes like the one shown. Oh and it came with a waterproof changing pad that I put on my seat so it doesn't get dirty or wet if there's any chance of that happening.
Hey just wondering today is November 12th, December 4th will be my one year anniversary for right leg below knee amputation and due to complications November 30th will be my first time to get fitted for prosthetic, I would like to maybe video tape it, do you have any suggestions for video, audio because I have no clue what to do all I have is a cell phone please give me some advice, guidance anything. and thank you so much for your videos they've helped me out for the last 11 months
I have this bag and a smart drive and it does not get in the way. But it definitely depends on how high up it will sit on your chair. I have handlebars and a higher backrest and so it hangs well above the SmartDrive.

I never thought of this. I am so going shopping to find supplies for my chair.
Great tip! I know there will be times I will be in a chair in my life. It’s a great idea to keep the same bag for both walking and wheelchairs.

Yep… that’s exactly how the pack I featured was designed…
I got a Nike knapsack from dsg that works amazing. It doesn't hold a TON, but it's nice to have on the back in case we need extra storage.
Thank you so much for all of your videos. I am a recent amputee and they have helped me tremendously. Quick question, what type of wheel chair do you have? Thanks so much!
Having seen the port on the top of the bag it is likely for a hydration bladder.
The hole would also work for headphones. (Which is usually what it's for for backpacks. But IDK if that'd be the intended use for a WC one.)

what brand your wheelchair christine it looks nice
Yes, I like it too. It has a rounded back that I don't see on any wheelchairs. I might look at more of her videos to see if it is mentioned.

hi whered did u get the push handle?
Wrong button, the other problem is backpack messing up the COG of the chair,
Do you happen to know if the bag gets in the way for things like the SmartDrive or other push assist devices like that?
Not sure! I have no experience so I can’t speak on that
