    I have this knife and I can say this is the best gerber knife I’ve had in my hands in a long time. Razor sharp excellent grind. In fact i used it in a project and it cut better than a new razor. The only minor gripe is I think the action could be a bit smoother but it’s not bad. Overall great knife IMO

    I love that the blade has the same profile as the CJRB EKKO. I bought 2 Gerber knives from BHQ the Slimsada and the Flatiron. Both are frame lock knives and both have micarta scales. Both have only one deployment methods - a very narrow hole/opening in the blade which I find difficult to use to open the knives. But I have found work-around methods of deployment. I love the Slimsada.

    Very interesting. I experienced a failure with a Gerber folder during the pandemic. It took some time (which was understandable) but Gerber stepped up and gained a customer for life. Very impressed.

    I haven't owned a Gerber since high school but it's cool to see them actually trying to offer products that meet the current, damn near perfect standard that the market is fully capable of producing. We don't tolerate clown garbage anymore and each company that chooses to get on board with that is making a good decision

      That’s from Chinese companies that are owned and operated on slave labor and shady tax practices. Even if gerber produces something in china, they are an American company, and pay a premium for it.

    I m not a fan of finger choils at short blades. I would prefer the Civivi . But after all , Gerber delivers a good design, nice materials, at a price that you don't have to make hard decisions. Maybe Gerder have heard some of the complaints. Great review my friend.

    I agree with all you say on this review and with your review of the Convoy. Good thing about Gerber is if you like one of their knives just wait a bit and they will go on sale. They get close but just seem to fall short. I picked one of these on sale for $20 and it's worth that or more, $20 - $40. But there are many other companies making better knives for the price. I got it because of the profile, good construction and little better steel. But Mine is hard to open and close one handed. Maybe it will loosen up over time. I am waiting for them to do the Convoy in D2 and will pick one up when it goes on sale for around $40.

    Import d2 isn't worth more than $30 give or take. I'd like to see cardboard cut testing on this Gerber along with the benchmade one in d2 that also recently released. I believe gerber and benchmade both use stack metallurgy for heat treatment, so they should perform similarly. 3 years ago outpost76 did a test on a griptilian in d2 and it did around 140ft cut. While import d2 does sub 100ft cut with some variation peaking that, but not consistently. The increase in costs would be acceptable if they kept it consistently in that range for a USA made knife. Assuming quality control was decent.

    Man I’m gonna have to get a new blade here soon lol. I usually only buy one a year if that bc I like to carry and really use one. I bought a spyderco para 2 in January and I absolutely love it. Mines heavily modded now but I haven’t been able to take it out of my pocket bc it just performs great. Hell I gutted and processed the buck I shot in October with my pm2 bc I forgot my hunting knives at home on accident and it did great though I had to take it apart and clean it good that night lol. Hell I spent almost 400 bucks this past summer on a Ramon chaves street liberation and it’s awesome but I have barely carried it bc of my pm2 lol

    • @powersww1reset
      @powersww1reset 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pm2 would probably win, knife of the century, and bloody well deserve it. The choil nub, would be my only small complaint, but I got to the point of just sanding it down, and then it’s perfect!

  • @Dynotop1a

    A somewhat similar knife, at least I think so vaguely in the lines and ergos, would be the Spyderco Emphasis.
    For my preferences I’d go with the Spyderco, but the Gerber does have the advantage of being more lightweight.
    Honestly, I’d prefer something besides 8cr13mov in the Spyderco as well, but my experience with the Gerber Flatiron was not good in regards to quality. I like the blade and design, but there were several major flaws like blade play, issues with the stop pin, and I really didn’t enjoy the pocket clip ergos. That was the best out of several examples I had to choose from too.
    Obviously Gerber does put out some good examples and I’m not calling Spyderco perfect (although my experience with their knives has been much better so far).
    I do like the edges I was getting with Gerber’s D2, but I don’t really think it’s significantly advantageous for me over the 8Cr13MoV’s stainlessness.
    There are steels I’d like more with budget knives over d2 or 8cr13.

  • @brawndothethirstmutilator9848
    @brawndothethirstmutilator9848 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I really really wanted to love this knife but...the access to the frame lock design literally and figuratively hurts me! I was excited about this Gerber model because Gerber was one of my first knife brands as a youngster that I could afford and it was made in the USA👍! This knife checked all the boxes for this particular EDC purchase: modified drop point/sheepsfoot 🤔,full flat grind(super slicey), D2 steel, light weight, Micarta, nostalgic and at the time under the $50 price point. Not made in the USA but I can get past that because it's very difficult to find quality USA made knives at this price point in this day and age. BUT and it's a big but and I cannot lie🤣 is the aforementioned frame lock design. I understand that most knives have a "break in" period during which you as the user discover the easiest way to use, purchase, fidget with and generally operate the knife but I have had this knife as a secondary in my pocket for almost a month now and I think I am just done with it. My thumb is callused and has bleed from trying to close this knife! I've taken it apart, lubed it, repeatedly opened and closed it, hell I've even tried propping the frame lock mechanism open around the relief cutout so that perhaps it would become usable to no avail. I don't get it I've heard everyone who has reviewed it complain about it but they seem to have "broken" theirs in or at least made it manageable, maybe it's just mine?!?!? Gerber if you read the comments of a great You Tubers knife reviews please please fix this in any future variations of this knife! To anyone else sorry for the long rant it's just been grinding my gears...BGood
