  • PART 1 • Kubota BX2380 with 5.3...
    IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ: With only 5.3 hours my Kubota BX2380 had a second problem. The mower height control dial mechanism had limited rotation and would not go to the "TOP" position. It worked fine prior to this fully rotating in a CW direction.
    The dealer [Meyer Implement Co. in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio] had to pick the tractor up a second time on Oct. 30-17 as the first time they didn’t fix the problem; it came back the same as it left. It was delivered on Nov. 3-17.
    You will need to see the first video if you didn’t see it to understand what happened and what the dealer did the first time. See that video at:

    Ive owned a B2620 and now B2601, both with 60 inch belly mowers. I have had to replace and repair this height cam on both machines. They are a very very poor design. Eventually the cam detentes will wear down and unable to hold height position, or they will just break.

    Yours is the first one I've seen that the adjustment knob goes completely around. Usually it goes to top from 4, but then you have to go back down. Both of my BX's only go to the top with the decks off. Guess I'm going to have to get under them and do some adjusting. I'm a strong believer in under armor.

    I had the same problem with my 2380. I watched your video as they were putting mine together and I tried turning the knob during delivery and it wouldn’t move at all. They sent the mechanic out to my house and he spent about 2 hours on it. He took the entire piece off and replaced it. The problem with mine was that it was put on way too tight from the factory and he loosened it and it spins like a breeze. Thanks for your original video it really saved me a lot of trouble.

    I have had similar problems, mainly the adjustment know is extremely hard to adjust when the deck is connected. I am gonna inspect some things you pointed out in the video. Thanks for all the parts and pieces. That helped alot!

    I need a video on how to adjust the belly mower deck up and down. It feels locked. We see the lock inside the mower, which adjustment tool on tractor unlocks it? Bought it used. Don’t know if anyone who can give me a lesson.

    I highly doubt the cam was the issue in the first place. The adjustment that needs to be made is at rear of the Tractor next to the 3pt hitch. It was shown in the diagram at the end of your video. Use two wrenches and break the jam nut loose. Turn the threaded end about half a turn and lock the nut down. Then it will allow it to go in the top position. It is a maintenance procedure. I had to adjust mine 3-4 times in the 300 hours I owned my bx

      With only 5.3 hrs on a new tractor I wasn't touching it. No reason for it going bad this quick. I hadn't even cut my property one complete time after getting the tractor and this is my second problem with the BX2380. My BX2230 with over 400 hrs never needed this adjustment you state...never. I am sure the problem was what the dealer told me.

      which way? clockwise or counter clockwise - (back it out so the deck goes higher when in the up position?)

    Hi guy I’m having same problem and I’d like to repair myself and I loosen nut on cam and grease ? And or free up the cam that way seams from looking at you pics that could be done with mower removed.

    thanks for you efforts posting this! Have you increased your hydraulic pressure too? I bought a kit off Amazon and it made my BX a lot stronger...

      Interesting, never heard of a kit that would do that.

    Make sure that splined shaft has a light coating of grease on it for over the winter so it does not rust !!! Use what is recommended by the owners or service manual because of warranty issues. I have a much older Kubota and when I take apart this drive line I coat the splined shaft with a little Never Sieze, so far no problems over several years !!

    I did not realized the deck height control on my 2360 should turn without stopping, it never went to Top. Now 10yrs. old its a bit late to have it fixed under warranty. :)
    This year 2360 jerks abruptly when letting up on the reverse pedal. Can give whiplash if you are not ready for it. Dealer says the only solution is to trade it for a later model. It has the plastic body and has stress cracks at the grab handle. This will be my last Kubota.

      Got to have any issues taken care of during the warranty period. That is why I had the dealer look at it. In my case it didn't rotate smooth when I received the tractor, but it worked. After it stopped rotating and the dealer replaced the part it is very smooth.

      @@starastronomer Adjusted the linkage bolt in the rear left side now the deck height knob rotates as it should and Top position is functional. This helped reduce the deck chatter noise while mowing. Its like a new BX to me.

    If I may ask, have you had any other issues with your tractor? I have BX2360 with no issues, but my son is thinking about BX2380. Concerned quality may have gone down.

    • @starastronomer
      @starastronomer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin...no other issues. The first one I believe was just an issue with a bad connector from the factory. The second was with the "cam" that sets the height of the mower deck. Been fine. I had a BX2230 prior to this one, 13 years old and had no problems with it. As to quality over those years and has it gone down??? Time will tell. Hopefully Kubota wants to keep its good reputation. Too many companies are willing to sacrifice quality over profits; not good.

    We have had the same problem in our 8 yr old bx but could move forward and back and play with forward-mid-rear power selector and eventually it would go with a lot of pressure to turn the height selector knob even 1 click like to your first video. We had it this last fall for pm and to fix a pinched backhoe line (don't use it to the left- poor design) and it will not even go or stay in top (spouse got it once but did not stay) though the knob has the same need of pressure. Now I can not till the large garden and dealer just says tough luck! You pay and then I fix even though I complained in the past. He is the only game in town and I wonder if they know what to do. Do you have some more specific details on what was done from dealer that I could use?

    • @starastronomer
      @starastronomer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, can't be of more help. My dealer said he replaced the "cam" as seen in my video. All I know is it works better than when new and turns butter smooth now. My old BX2230 never had this issue. Makes you wonder if they know what to do like you said. My tractor is still in warrantee. I would have your wife rotate the dial while you make sure the dial doesn't hit the "cam" when the mower deck is fully in the up position.

    That is not right take that thing back . Make sure they're doing a warranty claim each time get papers

    • @starastronomer
      @starastronomer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They would not document the warranty work with paperwork. I asked for it on several occasions but to no avail.

      Brian Lowe Since my mower was under warranty I let the dealer fix it. If the mower was out of warranty I would have taken care of the issue myself. Being under warranty I wanted to make sure if an issue costing $$$ was happening let them take care of it. That's what you pay for. Yes, as to your previous comment I'd remove the mower deck to get better access to that area. It's not that hard to take the deck off. But you may find it okay to do it with it on.

      Yes , thanks bought mine used and will remove deck and take a look at cam. Thanks for your video. I’ve had aBX22 some time ago and an back in the tractor business.
