Oh yes things have changed. My grandmother told me the story of her with her parents and siblings. Walking from New York to Desmoins Iowa. Behind a covered wagon with bare feet. I asked why she didn't ride on the wagon. She explained that the wagon was full of tools, wood stove and personal belongings. She said the seat would only fit two people. Her father had to drive the horses. She said they could switch out with their mother. However what self respecting child would ask their mother to walk. She also said the reason for no shoes. Was that shoes were very expensive and they could only afford one pair per year. They saved the shoes for school and church. Really makes you think how spoiled we are today. God bless

Great job Melissa, first time I got my wife on my new zero turn mower first thing she asked me was where are the brakes, when I told it didn't have brakes she drove around for about 25 feet and she has never got on again. After Ten years on the zero turn mower I probably won't never be without one!

Good morning Morgan's! Glad to see Melissa mowing and practicing on the tractor. My wife does most of the mowing, she only wanted a tractor style for years, until I bought a new zero turn to help occasionally, she tried it a few times and its now hers, we sold the tractor style! LOL We also have the conversations about when we were kids, and the things we did that would be frowned on in today's society. Say howdy to Hunter!

Daughter Eva is a real ray of sunshine. What a wonderful young lady. Teaching CrossFit for Kids and pitches in with family projects like painting, blowing leaves and trimming. She has that killer smile, just like her Mom. I'd like to see her cleaned up for Prom. She strikes me as a potential runway model although she will probably end up running her own company.

Love that Melissa throws a hint about the swimming pool. When I was a kid and coming of age, I learned how to drive in a 1947 Ford pickup. It was a beast and kept running. My brothers and sisters loaded it with enough firewood, that it lifted the front end off the ground. Some of us had to sit in the hood to hold it down, so my brother could steer. When you were old enough to drive a tractor, dad would take you out to the field and leave you all day as you did what was needed to be done. I also remember driving to school with guns in the rear window of your truck and leave them out there in your unlocked vehicle. Times sure have changed.

For me the weather is fine when I see a Melissa video, Eva and Hanna add Robins and Sparrows to the day. I remember those thankfully rare, times when Melissa put her self doubts forward not her shining spirit. I am glad to see her easier with her growing skills. Her preference for Mike being around as backup is a fine practical choice. She should get the practical rewards of her skills and work. Mike and Melissa delight as a fine working partnership. Their example of a quietly joyous life can displace less pleasant memories..

Melissa- I often think of the things I did as a young person, that I would be nervous letting my children do. Why is that? I think we as parents today realize what could go wrong and worry our kids will get hurt. I love how you brought this up! I also used a Gravely tractor with the handles as a small child! Learned the hard way not to lean against the exhaust wearing shorts! I still remember the burn!

Bill here from St John Parish, Louisiana. When we had our mobile home park in central Louisiana my cousin had a mid sized Kubota tractor. Any time we needed any tractor work I would hire him to do the job. ,My wife fell in love with it. He showed her how to operate it and she would just drive it around in the back pasture. He eventually showed her how to use the front in loader and box blade to spread and grade gravel on the road that lead to the back of the property. If I ever get s bigger tractor for our camp in Mississippi it will be a Kubota.

Ahhh..... the memories! Yes, things are different now, aren't they? I remember painting houses with a friend when we were 14 years old. The first time I ran and really used the BX I smiled, got one of the kids to run and use the tractor they smiled, another one ran and played on the tractor, they smiled. We understand why you are smiling. I have yet to mow because we are using the loader more and the mower would be in the way, 60" deck just to wide for where we go. By the way, my guy at the dealership told me to stay away from bio-diesel, just a thought. Got go and work with the tractor and get stuff done. From west central Illinois, tractor on

JOHN DEERE and KUBOTA Sub compacts are not great at any one thing! But the are very very good at many different things! Purchased my 1025R in 2015. It was a little pricey, but it has proven itself time and time again. From pulling stumps to moving rocks, weekly mowing, and spreading soil and stone. Which is better? Well that all depends on your individual needs. Great accomplishment Melissa. Have a great day! Melissa made a great point about technology. Today, kids and teenagers have so many more distractions than what we had growing up. Being over 50, I find that I did things at a much earlier age than today's generation. I was in the tobacco field cropping tobacco at the age of 12 and always had a summer job that typically involved manual labor. I think too, that in today's world, it really depends on the teenager's level of maturity they exhibit and what they feel comfortable learning. For example, if I had a 15 year old (boy or girl) that wanted to learn to run a tractor, teach them safety and basics first, and let them prove that by doing before moving on to more complex tasks. Just an opinion of course. I think you both have done a great job with your children!

Happy to see the BX mowing. Slick system for removing the loader. Still not 100% convinced Kubota is for me but certainly a viable option.
My dad was really slow to let me help on the farm. Not that he doubted my ability but from all the griping and complaining my older brothers gave him because they hated the farm. It wasn't until he had retired and sold the farm that he realized just how much I loved it and wanted to work with him on it. Oh well, ancient history.

Great video! I love my BX23S! Great idea to take the loader off on the concrete driveway. Speaking from experience don't take it off on an unlevel surface..you will work extremely hard to get it reconnected. Just start digging the hole for the pool Melissa...happy digging..

I have a couple Gravelys (4 wheel riders). They are some of the best tractors ever built. Heavy duty, last forever, and easy to work on. I love my RK24, but my Gravely 8123 will still hold it's own.

I bought mine 16 years ago. It still runs good 1200 plus hours later. Kubota

I really enjoy both your TH-cam channels, I am in my late 60's and not able to do some of the things I used to. I strung fence, cut and split wood, worked for a living in the oil industry. So now I like to watch someone else doing the work. I hope you don't mind, I sent some rawhide chews for your dogs, hope they enjoy them. BTW, I am in Texas.

Kudos to your parents. They prepared you for real life, which today is not that common. Based on what I see in the news today, a majority of the young folk could not survive on their own.

Nice job Melissa, now it's Mike's turn to demonstrate how easy it is to remove the loader on the MX5400.

Mike, after reading through the comments, it looks like its time to seriously consider getting everything in place to get your (Melissa's) pool project underway. Look at the good side of it, you'll have the opportunity to buy all kinds of goodies for the new pool. Not to mention, one more reason to fire up the sawmill. HAVE A DAY!!

That machine amazes me, all the levers operate effortlessly, the hydraulic disconnect is convenient and a little stiff but still Melissa was able to perform the task while sitting down. My only thoughts are that the roll bar sticks up high and if you aren't mindful you could smack a low branch. I never paid much attention to overhangs until I started driving a 11'4" tall motorcoach.

Speaking of that I saw a tractor trailer the other day stuck under a underpass, refrigerated unit was smashed halfway back the trailer
