    I was taught that you adjust the mower deck by measuring the blade distance from the ground to the blade side to side and front to back, you don't measure the deck itself because the deck isn't completely flat across left to right or front to back. And you want the deck to be slightly canted forward as well. Also, your tire pressure effects your mower deck height and how level it is. If your tires are low on air, or you have a tire that's low on air it will throw your deck height and level off as well. First step is to always check the tire pressure before adjusting the mower deck. Could be as simple as a tire low on air causing an uneven cut.

      This is the way I do it and it has seemed to work for me. I’m sure other decks might have some variations and different requirements. Just going with the easiest method and passing it along.

      @@ritterjon Good to know that method works, on my lawn tractor I have to use a blade height gauge as the deck isn't even close to being level across the top so measuring the deck on it doesn't work LOL. I check mine once a year, usually stays level, except this year one of the lock nuts has worn to the point it'll back itself off and let the deck start dropping on one side, so I've got to replace the lock nuts.
      Can't wait to get my BX.

    Had no idea it was that simple. Guess I never really looked when we had the BX. Learn something new every day I guess!

    Windzer said it before I could...always check tire pressure first before making any adjustments on the deck. Actually, you should check the tire pressure before every cut if you care about the quality of the cut. Other than that, great video as always. Good luck and congrats on the new toy!

    That's a good idea I never thought of for roughing in level. To completely level the deck you should go off the blade tips, a deck height gauge made this much easier, even tho I use to laugh at them. Side to side like you showed put blades parallel axle, measure cutting edge tip on left, right, adjust with those height bolts, ideally get equal. Front to back put blades perpendicular axle, measure cutting tip in front and back on all 3, adjust with front suspension linkage, front can be 0 to ~ 1/8 higher. Before doing this make sure to set 3 PT link arm stop to ~2 thousandth gap so deck doesn't bounce and check tire pressure. Also, should level at the height you'll be cutting for best results. You'll love the new tractor, had mine since Jan dunno how I'd get by without now. The cabs on my future list. Western NY winters aren't fun.

    The BX Rotary mower has a guide to positioning the anti scalp wheels (pg 17). If your lawn is mostly flat it isn't a big deal. If it is rolling it is more of an issue. Mine are lower and do occasionally ride the ground but otherwise I have scalping problems even though I mow at a fairly high height (3in).

      Make sure your tire pressure is the same on both back wheels and front should be the same. I ran into that to

    In the operating manual it says to adjust your cut height, and at this level your wheels should be 1/4 to 1/2 from the ground. When I made my adjustment this way I found wheels were digging into the lawn to much. I think I’ll try doing your your way instead.
    Thanks, Roger K

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the correct way to adjust the wheels on the deck. Having them 1 inch plus off the ground isn't going to prevent any sort of scalping. The wheels shouldn't be touching the ground but they shouldn't be above the bottom lip of the deck either.

    Measuring is useless if your measuring the wrong location. May as well just read the owners manual.

  • @osos231
    @osos231 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Measurements are best done from the blades, not the deck body.

      Paul doesn’t have to run for his money, I think he’s made quite a name for himself and is staying as busy as he wants making BX components. Thanks for watching.

    That black pad is covering the factory label which indicates the anti scalp wheels should be 1/4"-1/2" above the floor.

    First check the tire pressure and check the axle height on each side.

  • @pcdubya

    Wow, I had a total brain fart trying to level mine. Had the exact same problem where the left side was cutting lower. My reasoning was to UNSCREW the left side screw to make it come UP where in reality you screw the screw down?
    How do you like an enclosed cab on that tractor? The beauty of mine is being able to jump off and on when cutting grass or working, nice video.

  • @windzer
    @windzer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Idk if u check yours or not but tire pressure makes quite a bit of difference too. I had 1 rear tire on my bx that was about 4 psi low and it made out of level and the tire never even looked low. Nice new bx btw

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My tire PSI is right where it needs to be. However you bring up a good point. I should have mentioned that in the video as it can make a difference as well. Thanks for watching.
      God bless.

    Hi Jon, little question are you having any trouble with your loader valve sticking on the up and down?

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ryan Dohrwardt No I’m not, I haven’t heard of that issue with the Kubota BX series. You are aware of the float feature I assume and simply aren’t mistaking the float feature for sticking right?

    Next time I get a tractor, it'll be a 3pt hitch mower. As long as I'm running over the grass with the front tires, may as well all 4 tires and make it easier to hook up a mower. Now for a pressing problem. What do you teach?

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A rear mower is nice but for me it would be difficult to get into some areas that I mow. As for teaching I have the most important job in the school as I have the biggest classroom. I teach phy-ed and health and do a little coaching as well. Loving the summer right now!
      God bless.

    • @acderath
      @acderath 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A mid mount mower is key especially if you bought a BX when it is kind of overkill. I only have about 3/4 of an acre with garden beds and a 3PT mower would be a major hassle to maneuver around.

    Make sure your tire pressure is correct before you adjust anything. Read the manual it has the scalp wheel settings.

    I cant find a video about how to lower the blades

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the blades don't lower, but the deck does. There is a knob below your seat that you can adjust and the anti-scalp wheels can also be adjusted.
      Keep on tractoring.

    My deck is ok r to l but way off front to back!

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That adjustment is done with the front mounting bracket by adjusting the 2 nuts in or out to bring the deck level front to rear.
