Some watches look better on pic than in reality. That's the opposite with the Air King. I think it looks almost weird or way too much on pictures. In the flesh it is so much better and balanced! You captured that with your exterior shots. Thank you for doing justice to this great watch. The last Rolex bargain for sure.

Just bought mine from AD last month. Losing one second every 2 days. Love the dial. The hour and minute/second marker juxtaposition actually works really well. The gold crown and Rolex green is welcome, compared to the monochrome subs.
The faraday cage actually works well since lots of magnetism around us....and this is impervious.

From a heritage standpoint, gmt built for 1950 passenger airline pilots, airking built for wwii spitfire fighter pilots. Which heritage is cooler?

I was so lucky to own one by the Rolex store. And i tried a lot of more expensive watches. But this one i liked the most for a daily watch.
I love my air king! I didn't care for it when it first came out and i seen it online. I went to my local AD to purchase a different rolex. The second i seen the air king in person i fell in love with it. I like that it is outside of the norm for rolex. It came home with me that day and i have been enjoying it for a couple years now.
I too also thought it was ugly. Until I tried one on at an AD. Super nice watch!

The AD had both the AK and Explorer. I went with the AK. The con is that I would prefer if the numbers have lume, and they used the more secure clasp as the explorer.

Don’t follow the crowd with submariner esque watches with bezel’s that very few use.
The AK is class as are other watches of similar aesthetic.
I use diver's bezel multiple times a day.
Not sure everybody wears a submariner. I think Oyster Perpetuals are more common because they are cheaper and smaller in size.
If you are into snorkeling or diving the Submariner is perfect.
At first glance I thought, "this is one butt ugly watch"! I began researching it and kept looking at it and then became obsessed with the watch. I bought one a month ago. A very nice watch and when I put it on it makes me smile. I own two other Rolex and several Omega watches and this is my favorite.
I can’t take mine off my wrist. Such presence and great if you have reasonably large wrists. Looks a lot different on the wrist than in a shop window.

I despised these when they first came out being a long time fan of the old air king precision watches of the 70s and 80s however these current models have grown on me a bit recently and I actually quite like them now.
Bruce, I agree also. It looks to be a fantastic watch. I currently only own Breitling Watches, but this may be my first purchase in the Rolex family. Wish I had an AD closer to me.

Glad you like it! Funnily enough the reasons you like it are the same reasons I disliked mine and flipped it for a 16710, case is too thick, lack of lume makes it useless at night and as for future value I don’t see it happening but anything is possible I guess.

It is not going to drive the price up that quickly. What is going to make them popular is the fact they are reasonably priced for a Rolex and every dealer probably will have one that people see. And the moment somebody sees it and comes back to find it gone it will create a Rolex fever.

As always great vid Bruce, I actually got a call today from my local Rolex AD letting me know they received an Air King today & if I wanted it. Needless to say I swooped in asap & picked it up as this is the only Air King this AD has received all year. I love it, and wear yours in good health. 👍🏽

I think its awesome and it has tons of character. I think I just found my next goal! too bad i just picked up the Tudor Black Bay BB Steel.

Joshua yes I agree. There is a company called Everest Bands I think and I believe they have high need rubber bands made specifically for Rolex watches. When I get mine I will see what they have :)

Great review. I live in Ireland and have been fortunate to have owned all Rolex sports watches which I sold😭 what a massive mistake however last month I was lucky to buy a new Air King from my AD. It is simply outstanding and I love it far more than the sub, gmt, explorers which I owned and now worth a bloody fortune. Anyway if you love a unique Rolex get one now but not at a rip off price. Bless you all

I am in the exact same position... Definitely leaning more towards the Air King lately though.
The air king will appreciate the oyster will lose you money.

I like the dials on Air-King, but the case is bit thicker than I like to be.
It's under the radar, the price is unbeatable , and it's practically a Milgauss.

Looks a lot better in-person than in videos and pics. Still, not a huge fan but it's definitely not a watch you see out in the wild too much. We have a similar Rolex duo. I sold my Sub and replaced it with a Z-Blue Milgauss and there is no watch like it. I also have a 16710 which is just classic perfection.
I kinda feel like you took Seiko out to the back barn and shot it. I associate you with the MM300 more than any other watch and you sold it. I have nothing against Rolex, it's my favorite brand but you were always the Seiko guy. Guess the crown is king? ;)
I am glad you love it. Although I can understand why others don't. You might get lucky since it is not widely popular. Maybe it will become collectable.

I’m planning on saving up for a premium watch. Can’t decide between the air king, the Rolex OP 39 or else a GS. GS and Rolex seem to be two very different types of watches. Obviously I don’t have to make the decision quite yet but guess the Rolex waiting list could be a determining factor. Great video as always. 😀

I don’t see anything wrong with it, and I’m with you where if this doesn’t last for long, it’s obviously gonna be a sought after watch many years to come. That’s part of the appeal, is knowing that there’s potential in the future. Also it makes for a great gift from Dad to Son as a first Rolex watch. I personally like it.

Only thing is with the hands and the 12 oclock being lumped, the indices should have some lume too...feels they missed on that.
Been waiting for you to post a video since you picked this up, wanted to hear your thoughts. I’ve had my eye on this for a little while now, just waiting on delivery of my Tudor BB GMT and I’m really considering placing an order from my AD when I pick it up. Yes, the dial is busy compared to other Rolex watches but I think it’s a great looking watch. I tried a DJ41 on last week and it wasn’t for me..... bit too dressy.

Yeah, I don't know. Too many 5s and too many 0s. Plus, no lume on the 3-6-9 numerals. Why didn't use they numerals from Explorer that had lume? A different looking piece for sure. For the price I'd definitely choose something else.
My opinion hasn't changed and I have seen it a few times in my local AD, it's far too brash for me. Nice video though!

I loved the previous air king, 23 years ago it was the first Rolex I wanted, but the new design isn’t to my taste. I agree the green looks great, i however don’t like the numbered markers. Different tastes make the world a more interesting place, I can appreciate the watch even if it’s not something I would choose.
