    Such a GREAAAAAT video.
    We are in UK , can we get remote diagnosis before deciding on the treatment plan since our orthodontist was very brief and we are not clear if we should go braces only or a combination of ortho and oral surgery. He only looked at the dental line being off and straight referred to jaw specialist.

    During upper jaw surgery, is a rotation of the jaw a common (and efficient) practice in order to align upper teeth with the midline of the face? Or should it be treated with orthodontics?

    Hi, thank you for the informative video! I have a question. My daughter has been wearing her braces in preparation for her jaw surgery scheduled for next month. Initially, the plan was for her to have her upper jaw moved. We had our surgical consultation today and when he assessed her mouth, he said it may be better to move the lower jaw. He said he would talk with her orthodontist to make a joint decision. I am a slow processor, so I didn't think to ask him many questions but of course I came home and now I have a million. I have been searching and searching online to find anything I can on top vs lower jaw surgery...what is the difference? Why would one be preferred over the other? Is the pain the same? Recovery time the same? Results the same? I can't find anything to answer my questions! I know this is an older video and not sure if you are still taking questions, but thought I would give it a shot! Thank you!

    Question I had jaw surgery on Sep.20.2021. I got 3 piece lefort 1 osteotomy and they said they also had to cut bottom jaw to move it so my face look proportion after they widen my upper jaw. Now I knew my upper jaw was narrow compared to bottom my teeth/jaw would get sore and they were also grinding down. So the hospital suggested this surgery. They said that in 20 more yrs I would have more complications. So I said okay my NYC insurance covers it I’ll take it. Now they said since I have fairly straight enough teeth they can do surgery without me having braces. They did the surgery and I do feel my tongue has room and upper jaw is wider. Problem is I notice I look like my bottom jaw is farther back. And front jaw of more forward. Head dentist told them to put elastic to help move forward bottom jaw so my bite will be aligned correctly. But i only had elastic for 2 weeks and they are off. As well as all metal and screws, plastic splint , they put on my teeth/gums. When my mouth is resting my teeth do t aligned but I have to try to remember and move my bottom jaw forward so they align correctly. I do t want my teeth to permanently stay like this. I thought they was just going to widen upper jaw. Not move my jaw way forward than bottom jaw. I don’t have money for braces as of right now. I’m still trying to pay a lot of bills. So how do you think they can help me or what to do. Does this need to be corrected early on before permanently having my top jaw more forward compared to bottom after jaw surgery?

    Thanks for such an informative video on jaw surgery. Just wondering how do I floss my teeth after the surgery? I am 3 weeks post surgery now but still I am having a hard time opening my mouth wide. Will I get cavities?

    Is there an ideal age to have jaw surgery, or an age limit? I have a slight open bite and wore braces in my teenage years. I am now in my early 50s and was wondering if it too late for jaw surgery, or if it would not be recommended for any particular reason. I just discovered your channel and want to thank you for your excellent content!

      We appreciate the comment! We have not come up against an age limit for jaw surgery, though that is likely a better question for an oral surgeon as they have the more difficult job (including general anesthesia). What we can say is that the orthodontic movements required for surgery can definitely be done on patients in their 50s.

    Question, would I consult with my orthodontist about getting jaw surgery first? Or would I look for a surgeon and then tell my orthodontist I want jaw surgery?
    Currently on braces

      Great question! Most patients will start first with a consult at their orthodontist prior to seeing a surgeon.

    Is it normal to move the mandible and maxilla forward?
    I got put on elastics to fix my cross bite and and move my teeth back to have a normal bite.
    Now I think the best option is to move both my jaws forward so I don’t have short flattened face.
    Thank you

      Great question! For the most part, elastics do not impact skeletal position. They are used for tooth movement as a way to correct the bite. Jaw surgery is used to change the skeletal position of the upper and/or lower jaw.

    Is it best to get braces or Invisalign first? Before or after jaw surgery

    • @GluckOrthodontics
      @GluckOrthodontics  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. It really depends on each specific case and what the patient wants. We are doing ~90% of our jaw surgery cases with aligners.

    I was advised to have bimaxillar surgery but two months ago I decided to have dental crowns. Will the braces damage my crowns. Will surgery damage my crowns?

      Thank you for the question! Surgery should not damage your crowns. Have a wonderful day!

    How much does it cost to treat open mouth bite

    • @GluckOrthodontics
      @GluckOrthodontics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the question. It really depends on the case and the area. We've found that fees can be different in different areas of the US. A good option is to go for a consultation and speak with a provider for more information. Good luck!

      Thanks for the question! Usually jaw surgery treatment is combined with orthodontics, especially as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
