@@bruceanthony8345 no, you aren't right man. Fredrik dropped only 8th string because they used only one guitar on their concerts. For reason, Marrow was recorded in E A# D# G# c# f# a# d# with a pitch up of half a step at some parts
@@life_so_hard_i_so_emo i have to disagree when i listen to a meshuggah album from start the finish i can only find 2 or so songs i like the other songs just feel like fillers
For those wondering, on Nothing they used different tunings by only tuning down the 8th string (live they keep it at F standard though). So, for Stengah, Perpetual Black Second, Glints Collide and Organic Shadows the F is down to an E, for Nebulous down to Eb (creating a Drop Eb tuning), for Obsidian down to D and for Spasm all the way down to Bb (and in the last minute of the song even further down to A).
Actually on Nothing only nebulous and spasm just drop the lowest string. Stengah, perpetual, glints collide, and organic shadows are E standard. Live they simply keep the guitar in F standard on those.
@BiRDiEMusic interesting, so they were really experimenting with which standard tuning was practical for their uses on that record. Half step down, full step down, step and a half. Makes total sense.
I remember seeing Meshuggah quite a few years ago in Oregon. They opened for Obituary. Blew my mind. The Abysmal eye is a gem in my eyes. Especially coming from hearing ObZen from them initially.

I had the fortune to see Meshuggah live and it was some of the heaviest shit I have heard in my life. Nothing can top a sea of people bouncing to Rational gaze
amazing choice of riffs, and still a lot of my favourites missing. meshuggah sure do know how to write. also, i had no idea spasm was in A#0, holy hell. that’s an absurdly low tuning
Yea and the whole song on that one note. Shows how ahead of the curve meshuggah was and hoe to this day. No band will ever do it as good as they have and continue to do
Some personal favourite riffs not on the list: New Millennium Cyanide Christ - 4:23 Do Not Look Down - Opening riff I Am That Thirst - 3:39 In Death - Is Death - 2:47 (The riff before mentioned in the video is awesome, but that short breakdown into the next riff sounds so good 🥴) Lethargica - Opening riff Phantoms - 2:54 (I understand its simple af, melodically at least, but the last two minutes of that song makes me feel some kinda way...)
I believe Stengah is technically F standard but with the low string dropped a semitone - that is to say, E-A#-D#-G#-C#-F#-A#-D#. At least that's how I've seen one tab written for it.

Dear Andrew, tuning of perpetual Black second is wrong. Originally it played in
E a# d# g# c# f# a# d# (like Stengah and Marrow)

What is Drop A#0? i can't find the tuning on internet
Years later and Meshuggah STILL hits different. Heaviest band of all time
Crank that up to decades

That breakdown in Lethargica is still, and always will be, the heaviest breakdown ever created!
oh hell yeah. especially the live versions because the lower bpm makes it 10x heavier imo. its so doomy and brutal
The breakdown in Dehuminization is still the most brutal Meshuggah riff.

Rational Gaze , Demiurge , Behind The Sun , Pravus , Dancers. So many more heavier riffs
The 3 and half minute mark of Pravus is bloody heaven
every song in their discography has a contending riff
Absolutely Pummeling. Is the best way to describe these riffs.
Great selection of songs. It was especially nice to hear "spasm"

Glad to see Spasm here, pretty underrated Meshuggah song yet one of my favourites
Bleed at the end was fucking fiiiiiiiilthy
also that Thordendal sig is insane man, it looks like it weighs 50 pounds but sounds like it weighs 10,000
I wish Pineal Optic Glands got more love...probably the most underrated track on Obzen and nobody ever talks about it

One of my favorite tracks "straws pulled at random" I love it!
dunno how I got to an unlisted video but this slaps.
Edit: I'm not even a patreon member sorry for looking at this early Andrew 😬😬😬
2:59 Spasm, its SO GOOD! :D gj
The love for Meshuggah is appreciated! Keep it up.
Born in dissonance is so straight in your face liquid metal heavy! eSPECIALLY the riff right after the tiny solo part!
they're never going to want to hear another single meshuggah song again
Shocked Demiurge, NMCC, and the Pravus breakdown were left out
Only now am I really learning to appreciate the dissonant chugging on Koloss
Amazing work, my ears are in heaven throughout the video and you did well to make this work like one continuous song of progressive djent metal :P
The bridge to Nebulous !!! I f*cking love it
Some personal favourite riffs not on the list:
New Millennium Cyanide Christ - 4:23
Do Not Look Down - Opening riff
I Am That Thirst - 3:39
In Death - Is Death - 2:47 (The riff before mentioned in the video is awesome, but that short breakdown into the next riff sounds so good 🥴)
Lethargica - Opening riff
Phantoms - 2:54 (I understand its simple af, melodically at least, but the last two minutes of that song makes me feel some kinda way...)
So Awesome. Please let this not be the last time. Need sequels
Seriously so talented and amazing choice 👏
The groovy riff from In Death Is Death is sort of refreshing from a band like Meshuggah, love to see it featured here
God I love that bleed outro solo and riff so much. Props to remembering that chromatic solo shenanigans
I like that the Bleed solo actually wasn’t quite what it is in the album. If you watch them live, you’ll never hear the same solo twice
I love the thing you did with changing your beard color every now and again
I knew Spasm was tuned low but holy shit I didn’t think it was *that* low! 😧
The heaviest riff/breakdown would have to go to "Dehumanization" on Catch 33. Absolutely Crushing.
"One syllable, one vowel. AHHHHH!
That riff.

this needed the outro of Dancers To A discordant System

Goddaymn that bleed solo was good
YOU CANT CUT BLEED THERE
I'm delighted to see you start out with I am Colossus....and to follow up with Break those bones...👌🤘
I'm purty sure that Perpetual Black Second and Stengah are tuned to the same tuning, that is standard F but tuned the F down to E.
Great job on that Bleed solo wtffff!!
YEAH!! Perpetual Black Second!
That breakdown riff of lethargica slows down time
Great video and great choice of riffs!
Sweet guys! I bet your insides are just feeling that bass...damn!🌹

Where's the breakdown in Pravus? And Dehumanization? They slap way harder
