    I really like how the Swarm feel like a combination of the Locust and the Lambent. I like some of the Swarm designs alot, but I think the Locust and Lambent look more iconic and feel scarier in most aspects. I'd love to see some further evolution of the Swarm that makes them feel like the peak evolution of their life cycle in the upcoming Gears of War instalments!

    The COG just assuming the horde was gone for good is almost as stupid as the New Republic disarming and ignoring the First Order in Disney’s awful Star Wars sequels. Gotta love fictional governments being just as shortsighted and arrogant as real world governments.

      The lambent exploding from within their cells all at once, not killing them and encasing them within crystal coccons for 25 years which did not lead to them dying from the outset, nor the prolonged period of no food or water for a creature of that level of activity is insane. Furthermore that their adaptability feature triggered then but not from the lambent during that instant traumatic event is just as equally absurd. Sure they could have moved them all to one location and nuked the crystals to be sure, but how on earth would anyone expect them to be alive, especially considering the poor logic needed to justify the opposite. But sure realizing that, the case that they are alive in there, surely they would have opened a few up and run tests on the corpses to figure out what happened. And the tests would have shown they were alive.
      The logic all around isn't there.

      @@tbc1880 Except that the cacoons couldn't be opened which is WHY they were put into burial sites in the first place. My guess is they just thought it was a side effect of the complete removal of all Imulsion from the Locust bodies, plus with the fact that very few Locust remained unaffected by this meant that mop up ops were pretty easy, and in time all the remaining uneffected Locust were killed off. Plus there's the fact of arrogance. 25 years have passed making plenty of time for older Gears to retire and younger people who are less experianced with the Locust to rise up in influence, very easy to see that maybe older Gears were worried about any potential remaining Locust, or they'd had enough of fighting and didn't think too much on it. Plus if no one's seen a living Locust for decades then it would be safe to asume they're either all dead or too few in numbers to be of much threat. When you have a long time of peace complacency can easily settle in. Just look at the US in the early 2000s, with the collapse of the SOviat Union we got complacent, became more self focused, this allowed the Jihadis to grow in strength as no one thought them much of a global threat, then 9/11 occured and showed us we could be attacked even by these guys. SInce then the US whether engaged in war or peace has kept a constant readiness.

    The concept with how the locust came back 25 years after their presumed demise via hibernation and evolving into a new species does fit with how they were engineered to evolve makes sense. Whilst lacking the sheer numbers from their ancestors, the locust, they were much tougher than they were previously.

  • @Burning-Twilight
    @Burning-Twilight 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    There is a lot of mystery surrounding the Swarm and it's origin. For starters we know that drones and boomers became scions, but what became of the Kantus and Berserkers are they still around or are they all still dead.
    And of course what are the origins surrounding the Snatchers, Pouncer's, and Carriers they certainly don't look like any creatures we've seen before.

    • @Demicleas
      @Demicleas ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Well it was confirmed that there were quite a few locust holdouts that remained after the war. I belive these holdouts were lead by the kantus who somehow were immuine to the effects of the imulsion counter measure device just like how there somehow immune to imulsion. My theory is held up further by the fact the riftworm town was attacked repeatedly by locust seeking to destroy the town. and since it was confirmed that the remaining locust holdouts we're destroyed by spec ops it's more than likely most if not all the kantus died in either failed attacks on the rift worm town or died on there holdouts.

    • @Burning-Twilight
      @Burning-Twilight ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Demicleas Hmm that may be a possibility but i have a feeling there probably are some Kantus still out there somewhere. If my theory that they actually predate the Locust aka they are actually there own species is true, then it is likely that some may not have chosen to continue fighting after the end of GOW3.
      And could have possibly gone into hiding and just live out the rest of their lives either alone or possibly joining the Swarm somehow.

    Thinking about it more the Swarm are interesting but they need to be more explored. So many questions arise like about their recruitment methods, repurposing of bodies, and sentience. Everyone is asking for a Pendulem prequel and I feel like the idea of a human war could have driven the sequels. The world of post-locust is still very politically challenged between Outsider and C.O.G. Maybe they could have written a war between those two. Sure it wouldn’t make sense why humanity still clashes with each-other after a devastating war, but the humans of Sera have always known war. Perhaps they may have seen a civil war on how to proceed with humanity

      I think that the main difference between the Locust and the Swarm is that the Locus were Monsterous PEOPLE, and the swarm are just monsters.
      The Locust had generals, scientists, Honor guards, and priests. They had a symbol. They built machines, they built weapons and armor, they built Cities. They had names.
      The Swarm are just bug monsters. Their hives are just holes filled with goop and pods. All their weapons are scavenged. All the different types wear nothing but loincloths. Their symbol is literally just a claw mark. The closest thing one of them had to a name was "The Speaker"

    This was such a misstep, there's so much lore they could've delved into but instead, they just bring back the locust essentially.
    Marcus and Anya deserved a life of peace after Gears 3, and they apparently forgot Anya was sterile which is why she was in the military to begin with, so their son shouldn't even exist.

    • @stevesmith1383

How she was first chairman and how she signed up for the COG's fertilization therapy or whatever so humans could repopulate. She was successful with JD. But she died during pregnancy complications on her 2nd attempt.

    The Swarm is now a tribe without a queen.
    Maybe in the next games or spin-off we'll see some Scions taking names like the Speacker and having identies:
    "Joust" a scion formally a beast rider on Bloodmounts but now on a herd of Custom armored Snacthers, and chooses to snacth the most intelligent Gear officers.
    "Muk shift" a marauding scion in command of Elite Drones disguising themselves in outsider armor. Knows the difference between COG and Outsider. Forbids the use of Swarm animals to the point of warning shots on-site to prevent their cover blown.
    "Burnt face" An unlucky injured scion who was bested by a sh**-load of Kamakazi Trackers which gave him the idea of Juvie poppers. Later on a scouting mission with a Warden and a few Drones they stumbled upon a hidden nest of heart leaches. ;)

    I really hated gears of war 4's story. I kinda felt it was a bit cheesy of a ending in gears of war 3 to just kill off all the locust like that. I felt logically it would have been perfectly understandable for some locust to escape and survive the event. Finding out there was some work being done to write what might have been a far better story only to get scrapped... Is a bit disappointing.
    setting wise the cog had been reduced to the power of the fraction of a city state with a decent bulk of their citizenry being formed by the uir. I find the idea of them being able to just jump to automation, after they literally lost all their manufacturing capabilities. Something that would deal a massive blow to humanity technology wise. Without the constant fear of the locust. I don't think the sudden boom of available raw resources would justify the cog existing much at all. Especailly if the public found out the locust were in a far more reduced capacity then they were.
    Former uir people may seek to resettle their homeland to such news. The stranded would likely calm down a bit because the cog could leave their area of influence reducing the local strain of the population. An event like this should theoretically lead to a event of near 100 years of peace with the occasional gang sized fight of a war every now and then like you historically saw in Britain after the fall of rome.
    If anything in a time where humanity would have been knocked back to mostly 18th century tech (besides the weaponry). The surviving locust if they could figure out a way to get their animal taming skills and domesticated animal life going again. More then likely would be able to bury the hatchet with the humans during this time of peace, if they so wished.
