COG Soldier Physiology Analysis | The Strength of the Serran Origins in relation to Locust

  • In Gears of W @ R (incredibly lame) we see that the COG range in size from average looking people, to straight up tree trunk extremities. However, these swole goals are never explained but the pieces are there throughout the games if you know where to look. In this episode I will discuss why Marcus is pushing quite literally 60 years old, but still looks like he could punch a tree down.
    Anyhow, I hope you guys enjoy COG Soldier Physiology Analysis | The Strength of the Serran Origins in relation to Locust

    I think it was in the GoW book “Aspho Fields” where it was briefly mentioned that COG soldiers were continued to receive extra rations (even while others starved) and the rations contained steroids and hormones. Wish I could provide a citation.
    You’re right, though. Getting roided up does not make you a super soldier. It just makes you a moody flesh monster with a shrunken weewee. So there has to be something else and gene editing does fit in with the story.

      It was in the book " jacinto's remnant" I can't remember the exact page but they were having a food distribution and someone got made that the army got most of the food and a civilian were like " gears need the extra calories you don't want a skinng guy like me fighting out there do you?" And at another point in the same book NCOG marines call gears "overfed assholes" and they do have weight and height requirements (shown in anvil gate)and my own knowledge in trying to join the military that the COG army requirements for muscle and size is at average by the characters 5'11 and up the shortest being Benjamin Carmine who's actually my height at 6'0 and the biggest gears are Tai and Cole at 6'6

    • @FedorovAvtomat
      @FedorovAvtomat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      No small peepee. I did steroids at one point and there was actually in increase in size, they are supposed to make the testicles shrink. I did not notice this, but it does make sense since you are getting an external dose of testosterone, so your body shuts down most of it's testosterone production since it is unneeded. This leads to shrunken testicles. However to an experienced soldier in this situation, the steroids would actually make them perform far greater. Running farther, able to lug around heavier loads of ammunition and armor, greater pain tolerance, ability to control the firearm when firing.
      However I don't exactly think gene editing is necessary to get these desired results. If you were to have something to stimulate the pituitary gland to produce extremely high levels of HGH and testosterone you could get these results. Either that or have an artificial addition to the pituitary gland that allows for this.

    In the post-Locust War era, genetic engineering has reached a level such that the COG use it as a means of helping to replenish the population of Humanity. Women who were previously unable to conceive, like Jinn and Anya Stroud, were able to have children thanks to genetic engineering. It's certainly possible that another form of this was used for the COG's soldiers.

Most of the CoG civilians and the Stranded are mostly under rationing, maybe even on the brink of malnourishment, which also explain the size difference.

    The first argument, "their trials", might be related to epigenetics. Serans might be more epigenetically prone to grow muscle/bone than us. The environment itself might cause epigenetic evolution. Maybe related to microbiota? The planet does have Imulsion, so life in Sera is not as we know it. Another interesting idea would be Sera having a little bit stronger than gravity than Earth. Serans are definitely already stronger than us even without having a lot of muscle. Case in point: Kait, who is an athletic but not huge woman, without much muscle visible on the bare arms, can impale a Drone with a long rebar, and *THROW* it across the room! Drones weight what, over 100 kg? She tosses it like it was made of feathers! Now imagine what a big man like Marcus could do.

      Basically, Myostatin is a protein that limits your muscle mass unless it's needed by your body. COG soldiers are given a procedure that removes or lowers the effect of this protein, but there are rare instances in nature that some mammals are born with Myostatin-related muscle hypertrophy.@@jager2749

    Considering the COG had access to advanced AIs, cryogenic technology, orbital weaponry and some crazy advanced genetic science at least a few decades before E-Day, some impressive genetic engineering for their soldiers would absolutely make sense. Even if you look at characters during Judgement they mostly had a lighter build too, I imagine they probably implemented it en masse once the situation started getting really desperate, probably just before or after the Hammer Strikes.

    Your theory would also explain why Baird is smaller, because he was kept at a low rank regardless of accomplishments as punishment for disobeying orders. If I am not mistaken, Baird does show increased mass in 4 and 5, after he has been given actual credit for his accomplishments. It might also be possible that the Serran people evolved only slight changes in the body’s chemical processes, not enough to make too big a change, but enough to make enhancement more viable.

    It's been years since I read the books, but if I recall COG soldiers have a ration of about 8000 calories a day (which causes much animosity among the starving populous), along with their physical activities causes their larger than average size. Other than the fantasy setting for the huge size of COG soldiers, this would be the reason for the size disparity.
