Man you nailed it. Gears 1 is the only action-horror game of its kind, and Gears 2 is an outright masterpiece from start to finish.I didn't care much for Gears 3 and you could tell Epic was getting tired, plus some parts were poorly optimised on the Xbox 360 and crashed (especially some of the larger boss battles near the end of the game), but it still had a few cool features like the mechs.
It’s INSANE just how many parallels you can make between The Coalition and 343 when it comes to how both fumbled the IPs they inherited. Wouldn’t be shocked if it turned out that just like 343 The Coalition shot down numerous spinoffs that could’ve revitalized the franchise (we know from ex-343 devs that a game VERY similar to HellDivers 2 was pitched and shot down by Microsoft execs and 343’s heads). This is a level of incompetence that is only matched by Sony when it comes to making movies (if you look up any worst movies list you’re bound to find a few Sony films on the list. Emoji Movie, Madame Web, Morbius, and a Slenderman movie made however many years after the creepypasta was no longer relevant come to mind😂). I’m sure the Netflix animated show and live action movie won’t be good. They’ll probably better than the Halo show, but that’s not exactly a high bar to clear.
That certainly is true. The decline of both franchises sadly would’ve been inevitable if their original creators were still in charge. Modern Bungie is currently giving 343 a run for their money when it comes to being the most incompetent out of touch company. Epic games now just milks Fortnite, and their Steam competitor is a train wreck. Not sure what’s going on with People Can Fly since I haven’t cared enough to look into it.
@@matro2Reach was a great game, unlike Judgement. Besides, Judgement was developed by People can Fly, Epic already left the series at that point. Well Epic assisted, but I think they had a 3-game contract with M$, and didn't do much.
I do disagree that you should play as Marcus Fenix in Gears 5 or that he should even be in the later games, one of the main contentions I have with triple A gaming protagonists that get a lot of sequels is that they don't get a ending to their character arc, they become like Sam Fisher where he's pushing 70 in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and he's still a field agent. Master Chief should of been a Spartan drill instructor for other Spartan's and Fenix should be a retired war hero, taking a well earned R&R.
Gears of war was a very very special time in Xbox 360 history…when everyone saw Marcus phoenix and heard that music or Gary Jules mad world commercial…you needed that shit back in the day
The downfall of the old formula, sure that’d be interesting. But cod hasn’t had a downfall like Halo or Gears have. Still number 1 and has been since 2009
They gotta set the slate clean for gears 4,5 and continue from gow4 with Marcus as leading role, and his crew, and don’t make them old af. Just continue right after the events of the third game like they shoulda done from the beginning! Gears 6 in the Kait dominion will be even worse than 5 if they continue that road for the story. If 4 was bad, 5 was worse, 6 will be even more worse. Doing the impossible is kind of non-existent unless they do the impossible and brings back the old crew and continue from gow 3 to 4 and so on. When they do big mistakes like this in the story and they go a different direction than the previous successful formula, the game ends up pretty much Unredeemable!
1. drop a marcus fenix collection for pc (and xbox, but more importantly pc since 2/3/J never got a pc release, and 1 isn't on steam) 2. bring back the gritty art style and detailed gore of 1/2. this is the first gears game for 9th gen AND unreal engine 5. it's the perfect opportunity to drastically change the art style from 4/5, which no-one liked. 3. let us customise our multiplayer cog/swarm like in tactics. 4. let a new studio work on a spin-off gears (like splash damage did for tactics). i personally would like to see a multiplayer spin-off set in the locust era that is purely PvE like horde mode. or maybe a combined arms battlefield type game. 5. call it gears OF WAR
Gears will never die. My only real fear is that the show adaptation will be plagued by screenwriters who have no respect for the original lore, like the Halo or Witcher series. Especially when the games known for overkill action were able to deliver these iconic emotional moments, such as Tai suck starting a gnasher or Dom taking one for the squad.
How is 12:32 not true? Part 4 started off with JD as the main character and there was a sub plot about something having happened between him and his father. Then Gears 5 comes along and replaces him with Kate. The entire game is about her. JD becomes a villain (sort of) and his story is completely forgotten. So how is that not true?
Gears 1 2 3 the best trio in gaming history they should of left it at that like they said they was gonna then should’ve made games about the history like the cog wars
The idea of how the locust returned 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3 wasn’t the worst idea for the franchise but wasn’t handled the best. Showing how what the likes of Marcus, Baird, and Cole did after the war ended with the locust and then having a new generation fight against the new locust breed who return to finish what they started. But made the mistake of straying a bit too far from what made the previous games so popular and tried too hard with the forced “character development” of certain characters.
If any of you getting your hopes up on EDay- just remember we have colored hair people working on that game. So dont get your damm hopes up to the universe
Reason why Mexicans are die hard fans of GoW is because when GoW 2 was out, around that time lots of us went to places where they rented consoles to play something similar to an arcade place but this places where small locals with about 4-8 TV screens and some computers. So overall everything that was popping at that time was Halo , GoW and CoD Black Ops and the Lan parties between everyone was crazy and something you might not see ever again nowdays. I personally think that Gears died with 5. Don't get me wrong, 4 had PLENTY of issues, but 5 was just bad and predictable. I personally think that the game should've ended with Kait actually transforming her into the new Queen of the Swarm rather than bringing back Myrrah.
@@lindinle they did. The trailers for Gears 5 made people believe that Kait was going to be the new Queen of Locusts but they brought back Myrrah when their was no reason too and with a bullshit excuse on how she was brought back
The thing is: it wasn't a bad game. People loved it and critics too. You may not like it. You can think it's bad, but it's not. The franchise isn't dead. New games aren't better than the original trilogy and the multiplayer is dying, but that's all. Then franchise is fine. All Gears game were good, and Gears 5 was released in 2019, so surely we'll get the next Gears annoucement soon. People have to stop overreacting or being so pesimistic about things. Come on, dude, they are good games. A good franchise that deserves being played, and it is for comments like yours that I was missing on it.
@@joseijosei overreacting? I never said that the Gears games were bad, just five. Also, just because critics like it and makes a lot of money DOES NOT mean the product will be good or people will universally love it. Gears 5 had a very misleading campaign and became cliche in the end.
@@MythicShadow04 Yes, overreacting, because it's far from being a bad game. And I said "People loved it and critics too". Did you forget to read the word "PEOPLE"? Gamers, users. The majority of people who played the game liked it. Do you understand that? I know that just because critics like it ait doesn't mean it's good. We have The Last Of Us Part 2 as a perfect example of that, but I'm talking about both people and critics.
Another problem with Gears of War 5 was the implementation of a story decision; save Del or JD. That was utterly ridiculous for a linear based story. I immediately chose to save Del because James was a major d head at that point. Clayton had a much more logical reason to be overly pissed off than JD did. JD lost his trust, whereas Clayton literally lost two brothers (Anthony and Benjamin), Gary, and Elizabeth, his niece.
I had one problem with the Ultimate Edition when they changed Hoffman's expression during the ending. In the original game, you see him smile as he goes to pull Marcus up into the Raven whereas in the remake, he has that same grimace he had from the beginning of the game.
My dad and I recently finished re-playing through every gears 1-5 (judgement included, but not tactics💀) for like the 4th time - and have been playing them since day 1; and I can happily say I’m SO EXCITED for the next one. 😩 Gears gives me a gush emotional nostalgia. Incredible moments with my dad!
Honestly whether gears 6 is good or not, it will never top the original trilogy and it would have to be the greatest game ever created for it to bring the new trilogy close to it
Gears 6 will probably be the last Gears game the Coalition will work on. Most players will play it for the campaign and not the MP. I cant see them making a Fenix Collection since it will split up the player base even more for MP
Honestly, I still enjoyed the games, mainly for horde mode, I won't defend these games because there are some parts and story bits that i thought were off.
What killed it for me was the disgusting over microtransaction to level up your abilitys in horde and how you had to be a full team of various classes rather than just being guys surviving. Couldn't really play below 4 players it, it was barely impossible or not fun doing tactics that would too heavily alter gameplay (like being the scout and having to keep on running constantly to have the damage buff)

@noone-pg4lr It’s on a bunch of posters. It’s kind of a background detail and isn’t that intrusive. Emulsion is very clearly a stand in for oil and the Pendulum Wars can be viewed as an allegory for real world oil conflicts. The Stranded are also a reference to the victims of Hurricane Katrina who were basically abandoned. I’m sure there’s other things in the games, and books (haven’t read them). But, I’m unaware of that stuff. I’m sure if you Googled (if you’re going to look something up say you’re Googling it regardless of what search engine you use because that genericizes the term and makes them lose their trademark) it you could find the various connections between things in the game and real world politics.
It should have ended with Gears of War 3. And I was not happy that they killed off Anya. They got the voice actress back for gears 4 in flashback and they decided to killed off Anya come on. It would have been nice to see an older Anya in gears 4 and 5.

1. Gears 1 was great. No map cameras. No ghost cameras. No private parties. No spawn killing/team deathmatch. You can be the last man standing and clutch a 1v4 by being stealthy and flanking. You can also shoot instantly coming out of a roadie run. Blind firing the shotty actually worked. 2. Gears 5 allows you to wall bounce, back A, up A, reaction shot, etc., but you can't shoot out of a roadie run without a delay/holding the button down? For some reason you can perform all these crazy shots even though the shotty/character is facing the opposite direction? The game is dumb.

Not just the face, but the whole story revolved around her and it was absolutely insufferable. Like, WHO CARES about her stupid problems? What happened to fighting a near-hopeless war with your battle-hardened friends?

@@jaimeruiz7837 yep very very poor from them
It lost its brutal edge, half horror half action vibes of gears 1 and the desperation of gears 2
As most new things are just shit I wouldn’t mind a remaster of 2 and 3
Man you nailed it.
Tbf the original developers were also falling to the wayside before their departure, as seen by Judgement and Reach.
@@matro2Reach was goated TF you mean lol

Really hope this series makes a comeback at some point.
Fr. I never grew up playing gears only player 5 online. But its the most unique shooter we had. Its just so perfect
They just announced *E-DAY.*
@@_GeneralMechanics_Yep, going back to the past is probably the better choice than continuing gears 5 story.

SBMM would be a good thing to look at when studying this.
We are witnessing it in real time
That is going to be quite the video. So much to cover. You'd likely be best to split it into multiple videos.
The downfall of the old formula, sure that’d be interesting. But cod hasn’t had a downfall like Halo or Gears have. Still number 1 and has been since 2009

gears2 was the GOAT!
Aside from the hacking/map glitching players, I 100% agree. Best wall bounce games.
Because they just had to push the strong woman agenda
That seems to be how many franchises die these days.
1. drop a marcus fenix collection for pc (and xbox, but more importantly pc since 2/3/J never got a pc release, and 1 isn't on steam)
2. bring back the gritty art style and detailed gore of 1/2. this is the first gears game for 9th gen AND unreal engine 5. it's the perfect opportunity to drastically change the art style from 4/5, which no-one liked.
3. let us customise our multiplayer cog/swarm like in tactics.
4. let a new studio work on a spin-off gears (like splash damage did for tactics). i personally would like to see a multiplayer spin-off set in the locust era that is purely PvE like horde mode. or maybe a combined arms battlefield type game.
5. call it gears OF WAR
blame sweet baby inc for GEAR 5
Gears will never die. My only real fear is that the show adaptation will be plagued by screenwriters who have no respect for the original lore, like the Halo or Witcher series. Especially when the games known for overkill action were able to deliver these iconic emotional moments, such as Tai suck starting a gnasher or Dom taking one for the squad.
All the male characters will be stupid and evil and they'll need a virtuous diverse gay woman to save the day
Used to be halo, call of duty, gears of war at one point smhh time flies😢😢
How is 12:32 not true? Part 4 started off with JD as the main character and there was a sub plot about something having happened between him and his father. Then Gears 5 comes along and replaces him with Kate. The entire game is about her. JD becomes a villain (sort of) and his story is completely forgotten. So how is that not true?
The Coalition is what went wrong with Gears same with 343 with Halo
Gears 1 2 3 the best trio in gaming history they should of left it at that like they said they was gonna then should’ve made games about the history like the cog wars
I like how you started the video with a quick history breakdown
What I don’t understand is why not make prequels instead of sequel
Exactly there’s so much potential with most of the locust war being untouched
Laziness
Because studios always feel like they have to go forward, despite at times never knowing WHERE to go forward, which is usually how franchises die.
👀
Yeah I mean look at Star Wars they made the prequel trilogy.
This makes me sad because gears 1-3 were absolute classics and we probably won’t get anything like those games again
It's hope sweet baby inc doesn't slime its way into gears 6
Reason why Mexicans are die hard fans of GoW is because when GoW 2 was out, around that time lots of us went to places where they rented consoles to play something similar to an arcade place but this places where small locals with about 4-8 TV screens and some computers. So overall everything that was popping at that time was Halo , GoW and CoD Black Ops and the Lan parties between everyone was crazy and something you might not see ever again nowdays.
[I still love GoW to this date and play 5, in my opinion too many people focus on battlepasses, dlc and just things that now days games have but that in reality games like GoW 1 or 2 didnt have and we were happy just playing plus at least we can play with lots of characters from other titles of GoW now in 5]
"E-Day" had better be SPECTACULAR.
I personally think that Gears died with 5. Don't get me wrong, 4 had PLENTY of issues, but 5 was just bad and predictable. I personally think that the game should've ended with Kait actually transforming her into the new Queen of the Swarm rather than bringing back Myrrah.
So they pulled a palpatine.

Gears 1 was the first game I played online for consoles, changed my life as a gamer forever
All I need is Gears 6 then they can bury the franchise. I think of it like the Original Trilogy for Star Wars and the Sequel Trilogy.
Couldn't have put it any better!
Great Vid man, you got potential for sure!
Cait was the only problem. She ruined the franchise.
I had one problem with the Ultimate Edition when they changed Hoffman's expression during the ending. In the original game, you see him smile as he goes to pull Marcus up into the Raven whereas in the remake, he has that same grimace he had from the beginning of the game.
just played ultimate and you're wrong he does smile
I truly miss the gears days. Some of the best times ive ever had gaming.
So sad what happened to GoW... I literally grew up on this game and seeing what it became just hurts
We now know that Sweet Baby Inc. had something to do w/ it.
Honestly, I still enjoyed the games, mainly for horde mode, I won't defend these games because there are some parts and story bits that i thought were off.
Gears was too masculine for todays error. They don’t want men strong. And believe it or not movies and games reinforced masculinity
That mad world trailer gave me chills, miss those days.
I would say "the fall off of gears must be studied" but it looks like it has just been studied... unless a miracle is to come!
I dont understand how its dead it literally only takes me 20 seconds to find a lobby on the xbox series x
Gears of war. Emergence day has been announced. It looks like it was made by competent people. I'm hoping it does the job.
They haven't even announced anything, it's not dead. They now have plenty of other studios to spread out releases and give Coalition time.
Coalition suck and yes this franchise is very much dead. Enjoy waiting to 2026 at the very least for lackluster gears 6.

The Pendulum Wars are a commentary on real world oil wars. There’s literally posters that say “No blood for emulsion” referencing the “no blood for oil” slogan criticizing Bush. The Stranded are a reference to the Bush administration basically abandoning Hurricane Katrina’s victims. There’s definitely other things, but I’m unaware of them. The leas guy literally said he put his politics in the game you spergy babyman. If we’re lucky wonderful websites like Kiwo Farms and Encyclopedia Dramatica will make a lolcow out of you.

@@shreksnow1918 wait really I don’t remember that
@noone-pg4lr It’s on a bunch of posters.
@@shreksnow1918 I'm noting that google idea.
It should have ended with Gears of War 3. And I was not happy that they killed off Anya. They got the voice actress back for gears 4 in flashback and they decided to killed off Anya come on. It would have been nice to see an older Anya in gears 4 and 5.

You cannot beat that OG Gears bloodspray during a good ole chainsaw
They could've done so much with jd after the incident since it paralleled with marcus but they ditched that and went with kait, made jd an ass, and had kait basically disrespect marcus and all that. Shit if she was in the og games she would've been in the slab immediately
