But I never really noticed any unusual twist because i too tied directly to the spilt ring ... That's why I mentioned a swivel cuz I never started back with spoon'n till Feb of last yr mainly stuck with Jigs & dart heads ... enjoying your videos BTW 😎

    Hi Al, I always enjoy and learn from your vids. One thing though, not sure if I miss it but where is the part where you go over the specific gear to use for spooning, esp the Flutter Spoon and which size? I got two of the 3.5" 1 oz and then I noticed it comes in a humongous 5" 2.25 oz version ... is that applicable for Folsom Lake? Anyways, hopin' to find out recommended rod (ie MH/fast?) and reel/ratio (low profile will hold enough 20lb mono??). In your other vids, it states in a banner that the link for the gear used will be "down below" but I don't see a link. I do see * PLEASE CHECK BACK FOR LIST OF RECOMMENDED GEAR * . Anyways thanx as always for sharing and imparting your knowledge.

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right now were not posting any links because of technical problems but we will be in the near future. But for rods I use 7 1/2 to 7' 11" med action rods. Crankbait rods work great need the soft tip. Reels you need at least a 7:1 gear ratio and should hold about 75 yds line. The flutterspoon in 3.5 1oz is the best but some days the bigger ones does better. Just got back from Pyramid Lake and we spooned with bladrunner 1 3/4oz and both flutterspoons and killed em had two over twenty pounds and many 7-12# trout had a fantastic day spooning!

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kings n Trout got tough there as the water temp is still high and the lake is dropping everyday. I was there last week and graphed so much bait in the lake I can see why fishing might be tough?

    Alan, great info like always. You mentioned the thermocline as being in that 30-40' range at Folsom. Im reading reports of trollers getting bass as deep as 80-90'. Some of those reports are a few weeks old, has the thermocline moved up? I also know you like the Kastmaster at times and the blade runners, but what are your thoughts on the Hopkins jigging spoon?

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thermocline at Folsom is probably at 50-60 feet now. In the fall it will start to rise to the surface which we would say the lake has turned over.

    Hey Alan, Which battery do you prefer for a trolling motor, lead acid, agm or lithium

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lithium batteries are the best as they are lighter and have longer run time. I put in three 12V 100amh batteries last year and I haven't killed em yet! Can run two days in delta without charging.

    Nice video Alan. Just 2 quickies. Are you using a swivel to prevent line twist? How about the rod? MH, M, H?

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I use mono 25# test and tie direct keeps spoon from falling to fast. Tie direct if spoon fluttering right no line twist. Use s M slow action rod n 7:1 ratio reel

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say stripers in the delta. I went out today and caught lots n one over twenty pounds on a surface lure. Lost another nice one too. But most were caught on 5" swimbaits. Look on my facebook page alanfongoutdoors for the posts

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NO as I proved it to Denise as she was using braid and a 20ft leader and her spoon didn't fall right. She was standing right behind me and in front of Rick and we were yanking em in and she didn't get a bite! MONO
