    Did the trick for me. Great video! The part with the wires under the keyboard was a mystery though.

    I have never had a problem with my newer G75VW, however I have had a problem with another pc, noises from the CPU fan. Make a long story short - it was the plastic washer that holds the spindle broke. Under the sticker all fans have this cheep plastic washer/clip. Took the washer from another fan and presto no money spent and still works a year later. Hope that helps.

    Yes, that is the CMOS. You will not have to change this in the near 3-4 years. I assume the only thing people do to these batteries is short the two pins in an attempt to reset the BIOS setting which often may resolve a no post issue with any laptop.

    LOVE this tear down! Mine doesn't have any issues yet, but I was looking into tear downs for future references. The only issue left is I don't know where is it best to get reliable compatible parts. Specially for the Processor and video card, speakers, LCD. Where would you point me to?

    Great Video! The problem I am having is after I replaced the original slow network adapter card after reconnecting everything the mouse and buttons don't work. It's hard to see in the video but it looks like the white cable is on the right and the darker cable is on the left? That is the way I connected it and took it apart again reconnecting them that way in case the contacts weren't good but still nothing. The laptop won't detect the mouse anymore. Any advice? Thanks again for this amazing video!

    If it is a screw when you shake the laptop it will make noises inside the fan. If you shake and nothing happens when the laptop is off, then you have a typical failing fan. They get clogged up and wear out easily if you don't clean them up once in a while. Replacing the fan will be less than an hour.

    As soon as you turn on the computer hold the escape key and keep holding it until a boot load menu comes up.. You should have some sort of option to boot from.. You should see your hard drive with the operating system on it. Do not mess with the bios, if you are damage or mess something up it is possible to brick your laptop.. Essentially your laptop will become an expensive door stop.

    Thank you so much for making this video! I thought that I would've had to buy a new computer since my computer wasn't turning on. I had this one for over 4 years too so it seemed like that was the reason. All I had to do was remove a ram card and everything worked. Thanks once again!

      +dragonassault12 Is this the WiFi antenna cable? If you break this connector you are in trouble. They are very hard to solder and we often don't do it ourselves but instead replace the wifi cable completely. They are not easy to break :)

    • @dragonassault12
      @dragonassault12 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's specifically for the Trackpad connector. I wish I could send a picture. Basically I can't plug the white cable back in as the housing broke off

      +dragonassault12 Did you broke the connector from the motherboard? Are the traces intact or you just broke down the plastic clip that secures the touchpad cable?

    I have an Asus G75VW-DS72. For the last two months I've had random crashes without any bluescreens or warning, the laptop simply turns completely off and immediately reboots itself. These crashes have occurred while gaming, while watching videos, browsing the web, and sometimes simply upon waking the computer from screensaver (not hibernated). The crashes have been occurring since I flew internationally and the laptop traveled with me. Windows Event log shows codes 6008 (unexpected shutdown) and 41 task category 63 (Kernel - Power). I've used Memtest to check the memory and gotten no errors, temperatures don't seem to be a contributing factor, the laptop is on a desk and is well ventilated and kept as free of dust as possible, and I've had the crash while on battery power, while plugged in with the battery in, and while plugged in with the battery removed. I thought this might be driver or Windows corruption, so I've reinstalled the OS and all drivers, but am still experiencing the crashes. Any suggestions for what might be causing these issues?

    • @thomascraft818
      @thomascraft818 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are tough. If you checked the RAM it should be either GPU overheated /use on cauches/bed etc where no proper ventilation is possible/. CPU failure is very possible or lastly it might be liquid spill/humidity/salt etc./

    So im just a little confused, at 8:41 that would be the GPU so isnt that replaceable by a better performing GPU? I was told that its not replacable. Also why was the CPU and GPU put back on with out new thermal paste? It is okay to take them off and put them on without new paste?

    my g75 started making a rattling noise from the gpu fan , took back panel off and looks like a screw is missing from the gpu , i dont know if the fan is going bad or the screw somehow made its way over to the fan making noise?? shake the laptop and nothing seems to be floating around .. any ideas? seems to be louder at idle speeds than full load.

    Hello, I need some help and advice here. My Asus G75VW crashes a lot while turned on, no matter if I am gaming, browsing or watching a movie. I turned in my laptop to a professional swedish computer repair company and they told me the problem was that the motherboard was broken/not working as it should. First question: Does that seem reliable? They also said that they could replace the motherboard if I payed 725 dollars, to me that seems like a big sum of money since the motherboard only costs 163 dollars. Therefore my second question is: I have a friend who's repairing computers. He is not professional but would you by following this video he could replace it by himself? I would save a lot of money!
    Best regards, August! (PS) Please answer ASAP

    • @wzyg4317
      @wzyg4317 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      August Månsson I think you should be asking your friend that question. How does it make sense asking 3rd party if one of your friends knows how or can do it? Technically yes, if he fixes laptops and has good experience he should be. Even without this video I can take this thing apart ( with my experience on fixing them) the only difference it would take more time to figure out where the screws and connectors are and not damage them during removal. In this case you should be also asking your friend if he destroys it instead of fixing if he will reimburse you;)

    • @365laptoprepairLA
      @365laptoprepairLA  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      August Månsson The motherboard swap is easy and your friend will do it without any issue. You will need new thermal paste to be applied on the processor and the graphics card.
      Now back to the real info you will need. The motherboard is cheap because it is very rarely the problem. The possible issue is either your graphics card, your hard drive or your ram. The hard drive and ram you can troubleshoot yourself with a program called hard drive sentinel and hirens boot CD for the RAM. You need 100% functional hard drive and 100% functional ram before you move to testing the video card. Hope this helps.

    I have one of these laptops and my internal hard drives suddenly disconnects and reconnects, sometimes i get right into the OS with no problem and sometimes it asks for a boot device, I have to "massage" or push/press down the case around the trackpad or from bottom (at the hard drives position) and after a few pushes it detects the disks back, I checked the disks connectors from the back but they seem fine, I'll try to remove the keyboard following this video and see if the sata cables are loose to the mobo, any extra advice on it? Thanks

    • @365laptoprepairLA
      @365laptoprepairLA  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would suggest inspecting the hard drive connector board. It is connected to the motherboard with a flex cable. It is either loose connection to or from the motherboard to the HDD connector or possibly the pins on the sata connector on that little board to be loose. I would also try and apply support under the HDD cover to apply vertical pressure towards the HDD connect board. That should do it :)

    I'm trying to replace just the keyboard on this laptop. It says my laptop is G75VX though but i'm assuming they're the same as they pretty much look the same. I'm not sure whether to just order replacement keys or get an actual replacement keyboard and try to replace it myself. Any thoughts on it 365? How easy would it be, if I replace the laptop just the keyboard.

    • @365laptoprepairLA
      @365laptoprepairLA  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on what is wrong with the keyboard, we would probably order the entire keyboard. It shouldn't be too hard to replace. Sorry we didn't include the keyboard replacement in the video.

    • @365laptoprepairLA
      @365laptoprepairLA  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      365LaptopRepair Different keyboards have different type of plastic mounts, so it will have to be the specific latch to be able to replace just the key. If your metal frame where the plastic key frame is latching is damaged, you will certainly need a replacement keyboard. Most of the time you can just reseat the plastic key frame and that would do the trick. I would suggest you to youtube laptop key replacement and you will see it very clearly what you will need to get it fixed.

    I was wondering, if I decide to add a new motherboard, to install back the processor, is it necessary to add paste? Respond as soon as possible.

    • @365laptoprepairLA
      @365laptoprepairLA  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +flowers Elizabeth I would say you should always add thermal paste. This is high performance laptop and frying the CPU would be easier than a regular consumer grade laptop. Worst case if you decide to try it it might start shutting down on you randomly. Just open and re-apply fresh thermal paste. Good luck.

    Hello, I've a very old byt functional G75VX. It was overheating, so I dissassembled it, puy new thermal paste and assembled again. Everything worked fine, except that the cooling fans are working full since the moment I hit the power, they simply never stop. Any ideas that could solve the issue? I've already checked all the connections again and flashed the BIOS.

    I would like to ask you a question: both fans of my g75vx are making humming noise that is nearly equal in no load mode and full load mode. Laptop is 5 month old, no dust inside, and what is weird, when i turn it upside-down, the noise disappeares.
    Could you please give me a tip what to do? Replace grease (if possible), replace fans, suffer and die?

    My left 2 USB 3.0 ports on my G75 only work with 2.0 USB devices. It seems like if I plug in any 3.0 device there isn't enough power. A lot of people have the same problem on this laptop as per the ROG forums but no fix. I've tried loads of drivers, chipset etc. Everything is good in device manager and also did a clean install of Windows 8 on it. Any ideas ... I'm starting to think is a hardware problem and not a driver issue. I also updated my BIOS to v. 223 but it doesn't change anything. Also my LAN port doesn't work properly, the connection isn't good, as soon as my RJ-45 cable moves a bit, it disconnects, and today I noticed 2 burned pixels on my screen...GRR, nothing but bad luck with this laptop.

    Do you guys do Thermal Pastes? I need my thermal paste replaced for my GPU and CPU. I've been experiencing artifacts on some games even on the lowest settings. And sometimes I get a BSOD with a Video scheduler internal error. I've been to scare to replace it myself.

    • @thomascraft818
      @thomascraft818 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Josh,
      It is a bit late for re-paste of the GPU and CPU. The problem is that the solder joints were overheated and they will be prone to loosing connection easier in the future. If you do internal cleanup of your laptop and re-pasting it might improve the situation but most likely will not resolve the problem. It is critical to keep the laptop well ventilated and the fan exhausts free and clear . Don't use it in bed or couch. An easy way to dust the laptop without having to open it is blowing compressed air through the fan exhausts. To answer your questions, we do re-paste and internal cleanup for $80 but it might not remedy the problem. Prevention is the key here as the video cards are very expensive .

    How do I fix the black screen problem when I start up my computer? Is it a motherboard issue?

    • @365laptoprepairLA
      @365laptoprepairLA  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be a number of things. I would first try only one memory at a time in each socket. If you had one faulty memory stick you can eliminate this by swapping the memories. If your laptop vents are dusty, I would most likely say it is overheated and your graphics card which is a separate module is fried. If you play while at a couch or bed and the laptop can't properly vent is a good example of overheating. Good luck with the troubleshooting.

      +Seung-Min Park If they are just loose or disengaged you can replace the keys only or if they function mechanicaly as normal you but do not register a pressed key you will likely need a new keyboard.

    Is repasteing the gpu possible on this laptop?

    • @thomascraft818
      @thomascraft818 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible but I doubt that will resolve any overheating issue. You should dust it off first then look into further causes like fan or new thermal paste.

    • @mikefasciano7962
      @mikefasciano7962 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      been dusting it for a while and feel like its getting hotter than it used to, full dis-assembly clean, would repasting be a good next step or is the laptop just getting old?

    I have vertical lines running up and down my screen. How do I fix that?

    • @thomascraft818
      @thomascraft818 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      This will be an easy but pricey fix. You can try and squeeze the top of the screen with your fingers and you will see the vertical line go in/out ... this will be indication that the LCD panel is going defective. It might have been caused by many reasons but most often it is a result of stress/hit. So replacing the LCD panel with a new one will resolve the issue.

      Thomas Craft Thanks for the quick reply! I'm not sure what you mean by in/out. What I'm experiencing on my screen looks like pixels flashing. The more I move my mouse, the faster to pixels move around. I thought it might be my nvidia drivers, so I uninstalled my drivers using a program called DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). When I did that, and restarted the laptop, I noticed I didn't have the crazy pixels anymore. However, when I re-installed the drivers with custom settings (no 3D, no nVidia experience, just the HD Audio, graphics and PhysX), the lines reappeared after the restart. If it is hardware related, should I maybe take a look under the hood and see if any cables are loose?

    • @thomascraft818
      @thomascraft818 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      cha0tic What you describe is graphics chip failure. I was assuming you have only vertical lines coming down your screen that are static. After the explanation you have a failing graphics card. This happens if you never dust your laptop from inside or if you use it on uneven surfaces. Example would be bed, couch etc. where it can't circulate air through the vents properly. Video cards are very pricey for this model :(
      Happy Thanks Giving! It might be a good idea to look for upgrade this black Friday and sell the old one for parts :)

    Hi. I accidentaly caused a (i believe) short circuit in the GPU while swapping its hard drives. Now when I turn it on, only the numlock key lights up, fans are stopped. Do you think its a motherboard problem or switching just the GPU would fix it? Do you know if it is possible to turn it on without the GPU attached, just to check if motherboard is ok?

    • @leonardoguilherme4982
      @leonardoguilherme4982 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it was just the GPU. Today I removed it and my Asus booted up. This was only possible because of this video. Thanks.

      ***** Great stuff! So you re-connected it and it worked or how exactly you got it? Usually if you short something and it is not permanently damaged it would be enough to unplug the battery and power charger and leave it for about an hour do completely discharge all circuits and that should resume the normal functionality of the unit.

    I had to replace the motherboard on my G75VW and while it was sitting on my desk for several weeks, the Flat Ribbon cable for the power switch went missing.....
    Does anyone know where I can get another one?
    or
    Does anyone know the specifications of this cable so I can purchase a replacement?

    Hello,
    I have a G75vw and the graphic seem dead, because i found an small component grilled.
    can i boot the pc without graphic card to check the motherboard ?
    The chipset Mobile Intel HM77 Express seem to be graphic capable right ?
    So it's possible to boot without the graphic card ?
    is it possible to change the very small and yellow component on the graphic card ?
    thanks

    Hi, I've had a g75vx for a couple of months, and my bios is not loading after i changed the boot priorities. So nothing is launching. What would you suggest me? Thanks

    • @thomascraft818
      @thomascraft818 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you mean by BIOS not loading. I assume it is currently booting very fast to your operating system? You should be able to interrupt the normal boot up by pressing the Esc, F1, F2, F10 or F12 key. It will either ask you to select alternative boot device or enter the BIOS setting screen and edit the boot up sequence/devices from there.

      So there are lights coming up from the computer but nothing shows up on the screen at all? Or there is no light at all. Where I am getting to is if the computer is failing the POST sequence or it is completely no power. There is no setting in the BIOS that can prevent the computer from completing the POST sequence.

      Replacing the graphics card is the only reliable repair. I wouldn't trust reflows or refurbished GPU cards.
      These are about $400 to get a good used card. You should maintain the laptop free of dust and use it on a flat surface to allow proper ventilation at all times. Accumulation of dust is the number one reason they fail.

    Hello, I am getting strange rainbow like colors and the graphics get bad, when i tap the keyboard and around it I can get it to work normally, does this just sound like a loose connection?

    • @365laptoprepairLA
      @365laptoprepairLA  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bryan Rex Overheated video card memory is what that is. You have to dust off your video card and if you can reflow it gently. If you do not preserve it it will need replacement card and these are about $300.

    • @bryanrex2728
      @bryanrex2728 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly don't think that's what it is. It happens instant and it's 100% clean.

    • @365laptoprepairLA
      @365laptoprepairLA  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bryan Rex What is your explanation then? You must have a theory in that case. Does the discoloration happen when you move/tilt the screen? If it is not the LCD cable or the LCD panel it will be certainly the graphics memory. We've seen way too many of these to go bad not to have a solid opinion but if you have any other facts we will be eager to learn :) There isn't much other hardware that could interfere with the colors on this unit.

    • @bryanrex2728

      It happens when i use the keyboard or sometimes moving it. It seems like something is loose. If I put pressure at certain points the screen goes normal.

      Removing the battery might solve your problem. I have heard of people removing the password by doing this. If you are having fan problems you should clean it of dust. If you still have problems you might need to replace the fan.

    Hello, I'd like to know if a graphic card problem can make my PC shut down by itself (when I restart it I don't get any error message or anything) when my GPU isn't overheating according to softwares saying it's about 50°C to 65°C (living in Europe but those seem not too high according to what I've read) I have this www.playtool.com/pages/artifacts/artifacts.html video RAM artifact problem so it's likely that my GPU needs to be changed but I'd like to know if that's the only problem as my PC works fine until I go on some game then it shut downs by itself after a few sec/minutes.

    • @365laptoprepairLA
      @365laptoprepairLA  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AshuRawRun You will need professional service to get your video card memory reflowed. Replacement video card will certainly the best option but they are often previously failed reflowed video cards and it is critical to keep your laptop on a flat surfaces and also never block the fan exhausts. Frequent air blow of the vent system with a compressor or canned air is a must as this is how the dust builds up over time.

    Never trust a technician who uses power tools or doesn't wear a wired anti-static wrist strap. This is an A+ Certified NO-NO! This can harm your delicate electronics parts! My company and I always use hand tools.

      We have invested over 20k for 10 work benches and they are all grounded and tested monthly :) also a foot strap will suffice for most applications. Can't comment on the power tools vs hand tools but this might be a good point.
