Pippa has a sweet, sad voice. This singer has a strong, angry voice. What I find amazing is that this song can be both positioned in both of those emotions, and for that I find that both singers has equally good voices. ❤️

I really like how Phillipa Soo, Andra Day, and Lea Salonga showed 3 faces of Eliza's pain. Phillipa projected how crushed Eliza was, Andra expressed Eliza's frustration and anger, and Lea emphasized Eliza's strength and conviction. Oh my. . . how lucky am I to be alive right now.
Everyone has different tastes in music and entitled to an opinion, but her rendition of this song was pretty bad. Some people enjoy this style of "singing", but it sounds more like screaming and squealing, as if something is stuck in your throat and you are trying with all your might to get it out. I saw this on Broadway. I have listened to the Original Broadway recording countless times. For some reason, I couldn't really hear the words of this song until I heard Andra's version. As a man, I put myself in the place of Hamilton. Having these words come out of the mouth of my long suffering wife was devastating. The thought of causing that much pain to someone who did nothing but try to love me is excruciatingly painful. Everything she said was true and struck to the core of who I was and was at odds with the man I thought I was. As a real man, there is really no way to justify the affair or the publication of the detail to save my legacy. My hubris destroyed my wife and children. I literally started crying while trying to fight back tears.

Vibrato speed can vary from person to person. Surprisingly, the manipulation usually occurs when people try to sing or belt straight toned and only let vibrato occur towards the end of a long note.
I feel like the Hamilton Mixtape is just artists trying to piggy-back off the successful musical. I think the original song was more clear and had more feeling. The song was built more to express Eliza's pain and anger. Andra shows the anger ,but not much of the pain. She is a great artist when she has her own songs. Her vibrato sounds straight up painful.... I don't know how she manages... Also, I don't think it's the quantity of vibrato that distracts. Phillipa does a great job of using (a lot of) vibrato in her song and it doesn't sound strained like Andra's. The raspiness to Andra's voice is a stylistic thing, and I don't think it sounds bad (in fact, it's quite powerful and adds a kick to this song). I just think that the vibrato is forced- this kind of vibrato is often known as "gospel jaw" for being produced by jaw movement rather than vocal cords relaxing.

I saw this on Broadway. I have listened to the Original Broadway recording countless times. For some reason, I couldn't really hear the words of this song until I heard Andra's version. As a man, I put myself in the place of Hamilton. Having these words come out of the mouth of my long suffering wife was devastating. The thought of causing that much pain to someone who did nothing but try to love me is excruciatingly painful. Everything she said was true and struck to the core of who I was and was at odds with the man I thought I was. As a real man, there is really no way to justify the affair or the publication of the detail to save my legacy. My hubris destroyed my wife and children. I literally started crying while trying to fight back tears.

i only have one comment about it, a bit too much vibrato. i have a natural one and it doesn't it that much, it sounds like shes forcing it.
Vibrato speed can vary from person to person. Surprisingly, the manipulation usually occurs when people try to sing or belt straight toned and only let vibrato occur towards the end of a long note.
I feel like the Hamilton Mixtape is just artists trying to piggy-back off the successful musical. I think the original song was more clear and had more feeling. The song was built more to express Eliza's pain and anger. Andra shows the anger ,but not much of the pain. She is a great artist when she has her own songs. I feel like the original was more heartfelt.
Yes! She was great, but it just sounded like she was trying to make it sound good, that it didn't sound as good.
G i don't think it counts as piggy-backing when they were asked to do it lol. it is not like these singers went "let's get together and do a covers album of Hamilton." Especially when there are singers as currently popular as Sia on there that have no need to "piggy-back" on something successful.
Jamie Bell I agree, I don't think they're trying to piggy-back on Hamilton, but I think it is just because we have all agreed that no one can beat the original cast of Hamilton, and because of that we judge everyone that sings any of the songs whether it be a video on TH-cam or a live show.

Gwen Morris To reiterate, they are not piggy-backing...They are just kinda ruining the song because the emotion isn't there. The raps also don't really go together. Some of the lyrics don't make sense and/or indistinguishable.

this rendition made me feels as if this kind of Eliza seems resigned with what happened, she was tired of the issue, frustrated with the solution and at the later part, she felt the anger and the hurt settle on her shoulders, leaving her with an unsatisfied thirst for vengeance and hands tied for being a woman in that timeline...

Nope, im done with life. this almost insults hamilton. the new hamilton mixtape is almost absolute trash. scuse me to those who disagree. and andra is exaggerating too much, over using vibratos, changing the notes too often, and holding most lyrics too long.

Also, I don't think it's the quantity of vibrato that distracts. Phillipa does a great job of using (a lot of) vibrato in her song and it doesn't sound strained like Andra's.
The raspiness to Andra's voice is a stylistic thing, and I don't think it sounds bad (in fact, it's quite powerful and adds a kick to this song).
I just think that the vibrato is forced- this kind of vibrato is often known as "gospel jaw" for being produced by jaw movement rather than vocal cords relaxing.
It's a very cheap way of forcing the vibrato. It's quite amateur. For me she ruined the song
