    Very good. I get it! Like the vocal example. I could scare the neighbours now with a heavenly choir of thousands of my warbling harmonies, so they better watch themselves. Thanks!

    I have this exact machine. You don’t lose fidelity. But the volume is definitely lower. You have to turn up the volume on the bounced tracks.

      When bouncing multiple tracks, does the reverb print on the new track? For example, if I have reverb on a vocal, but none on the guitar, does that carry over to the new bounce track?

    This looks like a great wee recording machine. Been struggling to get a decent sound on GarageBand with guitars. Seriously thinking of going a bit old school and investing in this Tascam. Heard a couple of folky rocky recordings on one of these and was quite impressed.

    Do you know if the audio files get stored and saved somewhere on the device to be accessed later? like if you're working on something and bounce say tracks 1-4 onto track 1 to free up more room, would you still have access to the original separate tracks 1-4 when you dump them into your computer so you could mix more effectively in your DAW?

    • @jordanrowland2760
      @jordanrowland2760 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just answered my own question in the manual (page 52) for anyone curious, and it says to either back up the songs to a computer first, or use the "copy song" feature to stay completely within the TASCAM. This will be really helpful!

    Thanks for the video! Great job explaining everything. I am a bit confused on one detail though. Say I want to bounce track 1,2, & 3 down to 1. If I have track 2 panned slightly left, track 3 panned slightly right, is that pan going to still be there if I’m only bouncing down to one track, or would I need to bounce to two tracks (stereo pair) in order for the panning details to remain intact? Does it otherwise make everything centered? Thanks!

    • @StudioonaStick
      @StudioonaStick  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      According to Tascam, if you bounce to one track they won't be panned.
      They say you have to bounce to to two tracks to keep the panning.
      I just tried this...
      I bounced tracks 1, 2 and 3 to tracks 1 and 2.
      Track 1 panned center
      Track 2 panned full left
      Track 3 panned full right
      All three tracks did bounce to tracks 1 and 2, but everything ended up panned center.
      Hmmm...
      Please let us know if you got a different result.

      @@StudioonaStick @Studio on a Stick If you are bouncing panned tracks to track 1 and track 2 (using trk 1 and 2 as your stereo track) track 1 needs to be hard panned left and track 2 needs to be hard panned right on playback in order to get the correct stereo image of the bounce. Think of track 1 as your left speaker and track 2 as your right. On the flip side, if you are bouncing mono, then make sure your pans are at 12. The panning knob basically acts as a volume knob when you are sending to mono since panning is simply removing volume from either speaker, so if you bounced a panned track mono, it may end up sounding quiet and off compared to other tracks that bounced with it. With that said these videos are awesome. My tascam 488 needs new belts so I decided to go for this and got a great deal on eBay and your vids have helped a ton preparing. Thank you.

      @@safeasmilk1 I hope you get my message 5 months later. It's now November '22.
      This is just what I'm interested in and trying to figure out. So here's my question..... With my pans set hard left on track 1, and track 2 hard right, will the bounced tracks that are panned at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock show up that way on 1 and 2 when finished? Thank you. ✌

  • @toronado455

    4:53 sounded like the level was much lower on the resulting Track 1. Can you please explain? Thanks for the video!

    • @StudioonaStick
      @StudioonaStick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure. The combined playback of all the individual tracks was louder because I had to bring some up to hear them mixed to my liking.
      Once they were bounced to channel 1 they were lower because they were now combined and I had that track set lower.
      If you notice I do turn it up a bit, but I should have cranked it up even more.
      Thanks!

      @@StudioonaStick OK thanks. Just reminded me of my old PortaOne MiniStudio cassette 4-track because that would happen when you bounced tracks. You'd loose level and signal to noise ratio would get worse. I didn't expect that on a digital machine.

    • @StudioonaStick
      @StudioonaStick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It stays quiet, it's just the cumulative effect in the initial mix.

    How do you bounce say tracks 1, 2, and 4 all to track 1? Thx

    • @StudioonaStick
      @StudioonaStick  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mix the tracks in Multitrack mode, 1, 2, and 4 to taste, leave all other tracks turned down.
      Go into bounce mode.
      Arm the destination track/s.
      Hit record.
      Just remember that all tracks except the one/s you arm will remain intact, you only bounce the audio really, so your mix will print to the destination.
      (Edit) Also remember that you can even use 1 and 2 as the destination if you want. As long as you turn them up when you set the mix, they will print back to themselves along with 4.

    Has anyone recorded synths with this unit yet? Would I set it to mic/line or guitar for the input?
    Also, say I record 8 songs for an album. How do I make sure that they're all mixed and mastered at the same level?
    Like when I want to make an album, how do i check to see if all the songs are the same and not some louder than others?
    I'm very new to recording and appreciate any help.

      You gotta take notes 📝 dude that’s what I’m doing.. experiment while recording and testing your playback‘s between mixing in mastering check all your levels make sure nothings peeking, then once you get something that you really like write down all the details on a piece of paper and use it as a reference if you don’t memorize it

  • @StudioonaStick
    @StudioonaStick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Side note...
    I did an experiment and here's what happened.
    I recorded 2 tracks, I mixed, mastered and exported them panned hard left and right.
    I listened to them on my computer and they were indeed stereo.
    I imported the master on a new song and the Tascam gave default destinations of either Tracks 1-2 or 3-4, so it recognized the stereo pair.
    When I imported the tracks they were each mono, not panned.
    So the Tascam ignores stereo until you mix, master, export and play the stereo song outside of the Tascam.

    • @musclediy5838
      @musclediy5838 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same with bounce, where I mention stereo imaging I was incorrect, the Tascam ignores stereo until you mix, master, export and play the stereo song outside of it.
      Before mix/master/export the Tascam reverts files back to mono.
