- What would happen if Porsche wedged the 493bhp, high-revving, 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six from the 911 GT3 into the Cayman? Well… this. With Porsche’s pure electric future beckoning and naturally aspirated petrol engines on the way out, its hardcore GT department thought it would have some fun, producing the most extrovert RS model ever. Of course, there’s more downforce, stiffer suspension and weight has been stripped out but it’s the character of this car that separates it from the 911 GT3. The GT3 harnesses all the tech available to be the fastest and most precise thing around a track, the GT4 RS is all about noise and emotion and having fun, says Andreas Preuninger, the man behind every GT model. So we caught up with him in Germany to give us a full tour of the car.

@@Vamppas Nobody needs a manual in this type of car on the racetrack. On the Nordschleife you would have only one hand at the steering wheel most of the time because of the frequent shiftings. That's not recommended.

It's hard enough getting a regular gt4 allocation so I doubt "anyone" can just go out and buy it.
Well it is consistent with their opinion on what happened with the R, Porsche really want drivers to get their hands on their cars and not investors...so not making it a limited run will dampen that effect somewhat.
in the UK, I'd say the chance of getting one is close to 0, you may stand a chance if you've bought a couple of cars in the last 3 years
Even if it’s not “limited produced”, it’s still extremely hard to get one. All GT cars are very difficult to get unless you have history with a Porsche dealership or willing to pay a ridiculous ADM.

The fact that preuninger makes sure to talk about things in relation to English and England is amazing to hear. You know the man is intelligent when he does it so effortlessly.
Never get tired of hearing Preuninger speak about the cars. The GT4 RS will undoubtedly be a huge success just like the rest of the GT series cars!

i guess Porsche knew they had to eventually build one of these so long as they still could, so they did. A true 911 GT3 rivaling Cayman, no holding back.
Honestly it's probably better to drive than a 911 as well because it's lighter, smaller and more nimble due to the engine placement.
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks He mentioned the 911 gt3 was faster around the ring and only 30kg heavier. It's just a little bit more snappy on the cayman.

@@lilbza1 How is it not? As far as ultimate performance goes: Smaller tires? More rubber in the suspension? No rear wheel steering? Macpherson front end? Maybe they put a lower final drive ratio in, as they have done in the Caymans continuously? So while being very close now...they're not going to let any Cayman have a lap time that equals the best 911. At least not as delivered from the factory.
Imagine this with the gt3 suspension and e-lsd! Still as he says it’s old school perfection - lucky owners!

@Megatron Knows I am sure that Porsche has done this on purpose. With minor aftermarket tweaks this will surely beat the 911 GT3.
@Megatron Knows note how they didn't allow the Cayman to have the full GT3 engine until after they replaced the front suspension - on GT3's only, not the base 911 - with double wishbone.
Oh. OH. They actually stopped holding the Cayman back. You can tell they had a lot of fun engineering and testing the GT4 RS.
i ztill think they held back. they don't allow the top cayman model zurpazzing the entry 911 GT model [the GT3]...
Why couldn't Porsche also fit the Cayman with the GT3 double-wishbone suspension? I've yet to hear an explanation or excuse for that conscious technical design decision.
they are still holding it back, and i think they could have driven it around the Nurburgring way faster. If you take a look at the onboard video postet around a month ago you can notice that the driver could have gone faster in a couple of corners (Misha Charoudin has posted a analysis of the lap, too)
@@draggermark1822 The Cayman sits on an older platform than the 992. To integrate the new GT3 front end would make it more a lot more expensive.
@@draggermark1822 inboard wishbone mounting points on the chassis. Likely would have to wait for a full generational chassis update ("983"? but the next 911 would then be 993, but they already did that, so maybe 994 and 984? 😆) due to the changes needed for production.
Shoutout to whomever shot and graded this video. The b roll is of insanely good quality. Heck even the standard interview shots look amazing.

that's standard Porsche (and at least also BMW) practice...they give the numbers from 2km altitude and shitty fuel....they're always higher and faster in real-life than on paper...maybe except for the topspeed as that is a function of the drag too and it doesn't differ much.
Yes, GT3 does 60mph in less than 3 seconds compared to the advertised 3.4 seconds.

The ability of the engineers to design and put together these cars where the performance falls perfectly inline with the sales hierarchy is amazing. … must be faster than GT4 but not as fast as the big brother 911 GT3. Must be couple % better than last year but with room to improve for next model… etc.
And they do this incredibly well every single model.

Don't think so. Apparently these are not limited production like the other RS cars, these will keep going until Porsche says no more.
No on both. He's referring to how a mid-engined car likes to spin if you push it too hard. They're all that way, the weight is in the center of the car.

@@ShamanWS6 as opposed to a rear engine car, that always wants to swap ends whether you want it to or not? 😆 It's likely more snappy due to the suspension geometry/layout.
You just have to drive around it. I'm not throwing shade at the GT4, I'm saying that's just an intrinsic thing that happens when you over-drive a mid-engined car.

They finally did it! This is going to be by far the best sports car available. It's just too bad the reality is that Porsche dealers will make you go through hoops just to grant you an allocation for one, especially if you're new to Porsche.
First came the 987… the generation ending with the Cayman R. Then the arrival of the 981, and finally the 981 GT4, the car we all hoped Porsche would make, and *they actually did*. The reveal of the GT4RS just proves that Porsche is the most intellectual car maker out there, knowing their customer base like no other, and delivering thrills far in excess of anything I can think of. Thank you Porsche, what a great 10 years the Cayman range has had.

@@derrickgreen9020 Hahaha, no chance!! I’ve spent all the money I had and then some on the 981 GT4. The only reason I bought the GT4 is that it’s my forever Cayman and it’s all I could wish for. That being said, it’s a great car at a great price for people with great pockets of 💵

With all these dealer mark ups, tried to get a GT4, crazy markup… I just decided to keep my 987 cayman s, set it up for track use and a glass cover. I can hear different frequencies of noises too and the induction noise is crazy too. Then ordered a 4C and keep both. I get almost the same motorsports experience for less the price even if it’s slower. Porsche dealers are brutal selling these types of cars.
You've got no chance getting one of these without offering double what they cost :)

I recon this is faster than the GT3 but they don’t want you knowing that. I bet it lapped the NR faster but they kept it to themselves.

What a beautiful car. The first time I ever saw a Cayman I wondered to myself what it would be like with a bunch more power. I’m not disappointed.
Cayman GT4 RS is my choice. I like the modern 911 body but something about the Cayman is more pleasing to the eyes.

I have never been a Porsche fan. But Andreas really sells it well. The references to emotions and as I'm a motorcycle rider, when he compared it to being the car you take instead of the bike he got my attention.
In my eyes this is now the best sportscar in the world.

Every day that passes i love Porsche even more, i had the opportunity to drive a 911 Turbo S a couple of months ago and i it was one of the best handling cars i've ever driven, the GT3 must be a beast and it's so great to see this GT4 Rs appearing in the market now!!
I find my self questioning the thumbs down option in this specific video. The people who "disliked" it must just be miserable, there's no possible way it could be the car. I still find it very hard to find anything that was not tastefully done, not only with this video but especially this automotive artwork people call a "car". I guess some people are just choose to be unhappy, I don't feel bad for them because I believe happiness is a choice not an entitlement. I tip my hat to all of the people at porche for the constant evolution of their brand and automotive design from the 918 to this stunning new addition. We are going to loose the combustion motor all together one day but I praise the bold that are not already throwing in the cards and going full electric. I wish Ferdinand could see what this company has achieved.🇩🇪🇺🇲🍻

Interesting they are doing a 2+ year manufacturing period. Makes me wonder when the next gen platform will actually be delivered.
They could extend the production specifically for GT4/RS models as they did with the 996 Turbo & GT2/3 when the 997 was released.
Logistically it shouldn't be difficult as the Cayman comes from the same production line as the 911 so as long as they still have 982 Cayman/Boxster stamps & supply of parts it's doable.

They have to, it’s not up to the automakers anymore. As unfortunate as it is, automakers have to switch to electric by law, at least in Europe. But I’m sure Porsche will do their best to keep the internal combustion engine alive as long as they can. Thankfully, there hasn’t been any news of the 911 going electric as of now, so let’s see what happens.

I can picture myself having succeeded in life's most important aspects in a very manifest way and it for sure includes me sitting on the way to work in one of these or an even better up coming version of porsche's way better than military grade cars //
I don't see why there is no manual. It is easily paired to the engine as it's the same from the GT3. It would've been awesome to be able to get a manual RS model for the first time since the 997 generation. Oh well.
There won't be a manual GT3 RS either. These are about lap times. Humans using manuals can't keep up.

@@verhu010 I know and I understand that. In my head, I just don't think any road legal car is actually about lap times. Race cars are about lap times and being the fastest, in that case I 100% understand an auto over a manual. (although, I have driven manual race cars).

Same with the GT3/GT3RS. The "regular" GT4 still has a manual option, the RS doesn't because it's "focused".

Absolutely. The dealers have all this sewn up probably 12 months ago.
A lot of Germans/Europeans actually track them, the GT3/4/RS is a really common car at the ring. Even the GT2 isn't that special anymore. It's just another 911 with a GT badge and a wing.

Porsche is a two syllable word. It’s hard to hear a journalist say “Porsh” over and over.
If Preuniger didn't make a fuss about it, neither should you. Lots of brands with two or more syllables ends up with shorter slang nicknames. Chevy. Lambo. VeeDub. Merc. Caddy. Aston. Rolls. Bimmer. Toyo. Subi. Get over it. I own and track a 2019 GT3RS, and I don't care what anybody calls it.
@@xtnuser5338 the difference between the examples you gave is that they’re obviously slang terms and anyone using them know the full correct name. Most people that say Porsh do so out of ignorance and not because it’s an agreed upon slang term. Preuniger probably gets sick of correcting people and I highly doubt you’d ever hear him or anyone that works at Porsche say Porsh.

That seems like a very odd perception to me, and I'm in conversations about them a lot. I say Porsh myself sometimes, and I've been corrected, even by non car people, about a gazillion times. Everybody knows. It's been a world-renowned name for a long time.
@@xtnuser5338 the British are notorious for mispronouncing foreign words and names. There are footballers in the premiership (soccer players in the major league 😂) from other nations who commentators still can't pronounce correctly even after being in the league 5-10 years. Porsche literally made an advertisement telling people how to pronounce the name ("it's two syllables"). Go to a PCA event and say it with one syllable and watch everyone try not to visibly cringe.
