The thing with power creep isn't how hard the hardest content is. It's the fact that the battlezones used to be fun and now are not. The end stage Voth flood in the Dyson space area used to be kind of tense and exciting. Now ships explode before they're even fully warped in. Doing endeavors in common areas is a game of out-DPSing everyone else trying to complete those same endeavors. Have you tried to do the V-rex uni lately? It's nearly impossible unless you camp the spawn. Why? Power creep. Power creep also breaks the story missions. It's an incredibly poisonous game mechanic that will progressively erode the STO experience for everyone.
The only place where power creep is meaningless is the Procyon V TFO. That third time is still murder, with every enemy NPC Temporal dreadnought from the game fighting. The only ships that have an easy time are the 31st Century Temporal ships. They are almost always fighting those ships, because they will dominate any other player vessel on the map, because of how their abilities cycle with each other.
Power creep means whales are going to have far better gear than casual players, its why PVP is so frustrating in STO. Other games normalize stats to make PVP more even. I am sure that is not easy to do for a game designer.
I think this is the new normal. Every couple years introduce another Tier of X. I like it. It allows us more ability to flesh out themes and build concepts. I do think we need more scaled difficulty with gameplay. Perhaps introduce missions/patrols/TFOs that are endless beyond Arena and Maru. Give us something in exchange that we can use as a currency to get something else useful. Honestly, the play->reward system is broken in this game. Other than FOMO, there's nothing to keep us playing beyond trek love, pew pew PvP, or theory crafting. We need a solid plan for endgame content.
Also worth pointing out; Fleet versions do not have Trait unlocks for completing the Mastery. For some of the best builds out there, Traits are a big reason to acquire any given ship. If you go with the Fleet Modules; you get the ship- but not that coveted trait.
I currently have around six T6-X upgrades from various promos and phoenix events. I hope that's all I will need. If they make a new resource...well...we'll just figure it out.
Me personally, I’ll always welcome the ability to add 1 more of my Favorite Ship Traits and Console to my Ships Roster! Heck yeah Let’s Go! 😁 There are so many in the game fitting them together like a puzzle is really fun and I always feel like I have to leave some of them off to make it a full puzzle, . Soooooo to expand that Juuuuust a tad more , . Yes Sir I’m in ! !
Cryptic promised no Teir 7. But this T6-2X is essentially that. The only way you could argue it is NOT is that there's no new thingamabob like T6 had ship traits.

Assuming they repeat the same pattern as last year, you could get that $48 ship for $0. Provided you have another 3+ months worth of patience. Last year they gave everyone a 100% off T6 ship coupon during the winter event. You can claim the fleet ship module from a rep, then do the red alert that's happening RIGHT NOW for an X token. If you completed the red alert a couple months ago you should still have a second one from that (unless you spent it) and if not, Cryptic will run another red alert this year (probably) or even just give away an X token during the winter event. By early December you could have everything you need for this for free. That said, I've always maintained that the game is worth spending what you would spend on any other AAA game, so about $60 or $70. The best new player ship in the game right now (personal opinion) is the Terran Hydra, which doesn't require a fleet ship module. You could buy the elite services bundle, pick up the Hydra during one of the 25% off ship sales, and buy 10 keys, all for under $60. Sell the keys on the exchange and buy your X tokens there, much cheaper than the C-store price for the X tokens. For $60 you've got a ship you can reliably clear every piece of content in the game with. But yes, you can also get it for free. idk, seems like the game is worth spending a LITTLE money on to me. The people who play 100% F2P seem...I don't want to say "spiteful," but maybe "unreasonably proud" of the fact that they're not giving the developers a cent, and I wouldn't be ashamed of that, but I wouldn't be proud of it either, if it were me. The game is worth supporting financially, I think. Probably a good idea to do so LESS than I have though, lol. I could've built a second gaming PC for what I've spent on this game :(
I appreciate the upgrade 1. Good idea, I would like to see as far as an upgrade to current ships that we spent money on would be an upgrade to add an extra weapon slot or an extra hanger Bay or an experimental slot. On any ship
considering i have a carrier that i like but find that i dont use much due to having to pick and choose which ships i want to deploy i like your idea having another hanger would allow me to deploy both my fighter screen and my frigate escorts
Setting character difficulty to elite and running Iupiter Iratus patrol to hard is a nice challenge over existing content. Hopefully they bring this to other content.
I highly doubt it's going to be the same token & you just used two of them. It's going to be a brand new one. And probably cost 25-50% more on the C-store. (If they plan to have a 3x and 4x token eventually, then maybe the price increase won't be as dramatic.)
I'd like to see a T6 small craft (up gradable to X) with additional content (modified TFO's) as well as crafting for equipment (-S). [-s being more powerful then non -s equipment]
I have never purchased a T6-X token, but I have upgraded plenty of ships and still have 4-5 in the bank. I'm pretty sure it will be the same with the T6-2X ones eventually. 😆
I expect that it would work like the T5-U upgrade and the Experimental upgrade, so a new token for the T6-X2. But i wouldn't be upset if it was to use the Experimental upgrade since they are easy to get. The T6-X2 ships are basically T7-X ships, so maybe in the future we may see T7 ships, once the waters has been tested. They dont want a reaction like they did when they went from T5 to T6.
@@stue2298 That's exactly it. Spend $30+ on a T6 ship. Then spend more and more to keep upgrading it. As it is, a T-6 ship would cost between 50 to 60 (Projected) to upgrade to T-6-X2. Then add likely another 30 bucks to get to X3 if they ever do that.

I mean T6 and all the X & fleet upgrades make it more easy to steamroll content but it doesn't make T5Ux2 less useful since the content is the same so if you could do elite runs in a Galor you can still do it now difference being that a T6X2 will do it faster, the only major difference could be in pvp but that is dead, burried & forgotten.
@@DerDrecksack87 Yes T5 ships and their U and X versions can be used, but they are out of date. How many people use T5 ships when they have a choice of T6 ships, i am guessing not many. The only reasons you would fly a T5 ship over a T6 ship is you like the challenge or you like the look of the ship and dont care how it performs. The only reason to buy a T5 ship is for the console, you are not buying it for the trait cause it doesnt have one and you not buying it to fly. Look at how many T5 ships cryptic have removed from the game because they where obsolete.
Devices - drop the Nimbus beaconit works from inventory. Add Red Matter Capacitor, Temporal Negotiator, Ablative Armor consumables and maybe the new fleet ship device.
If Cryptic thinks they can sell an upgrade for real money then they'll absolutely do it. Obviously that's an issue for those of us that have a lot of the original 'x' coupons. I'm hopeful they'll put them in the Phoenix boxes again.
I CAN NOT SOLO ELITE. And I’m an average loyal player since the game came out. I did some elite TFOs recently to gather mats for the “new consoles”. One of the players in the group bullied me, claiming that I did not do enough damage. All my gear is XV and tuned accordingly. I bet I am part of a majority of players in the same situation. Trying to embrace the Elite TFOs. But it’s NOT “easy”. I welcome this X2 upgrade. Even though I will admit another device slot is dumb.
So, this new token must be to get the T6 ships to be able to compete with the T7's. I have a feeling the T7 is already here in its basic form as legendary ships. They have far more console slots than a T6. I also think that new T7's will be upgrades of existing ships, like the T5 Aventine vs the T6 ones. My thought, is that Bridge Officers get kit module abilities, like our captains do for away team play. That is begging to be added.
oh and dont forget a few of the newer t-6 ships come with more than 11 console slots i have a t-6 that came with 12 by default and with the upgrade it is now 13 and considering its a carrier with 5 fore and 4 rear weapons it is pretty much a bringer of death to any enemy it comes across
Maybe a year ago I came up with a fantasy X2 upgrade. It would have been somewhat more powerful than what we're getting and was accordingly fairly costly. Hopefully with what the real X2s are giving, it only takes another of the existing Experimental Upgrade tokens. Finally a usage for my salvage 😂 slap that salvage onto the ship hull, and bam T6 x2 joking joking, but seriously we need more usage for salvage. Heck there's a race that loves salvage and would happily trade
for an Aussie the price works out to around $120 due to the tax and extra we have to pay i know as i have spent around $4000 on this game over the last few yrs in fact im glad my old computer exploded so i am forced to start getting my games back again its making me thing which i really want back and i must admit the ones i have the habit of spending money on are pretty low on my list right now
I'd need to see how it works before passing judgement. Non-competitive players don't really have a need to max upgrade everything. For me personally, I would only care to max upgrade my main ship (currently the Verne) as I use it 99% of the time on my main character. Speaking for console (that's where I play), unless they've went into the guts of the game & fixed certain things such as manual clicky powers not activating properly, powers set to auto not activating properly, the inability for the system to handle activating multiple powers at once, the overly silly skill wheel that continually rearranges the location of the skills (rendering muscle memory nonexistent), etc, I'm not sure adding more to a ship is all that appealing. Being able to do more with my ship sounds good, but when I think about it, due to the problems I listed above, I end up not even using most of the non auto-use powers I have equipped on my ships because the hassle isn't worth it most of the time. As it stands now, they would need to make some in-engine fixes before another upgrade is something I'd even care about. Again, have to see how it's gonna work before passing judgment.
I would also add a sort system specifically when your upgrading things, and an overhaul to the chat system on console. It’s taken a long time figuring out how to navigate the game and I would think that is why most quit before they realize the game is pretty cool. There are many levels and many games within the main game that all take time to figure out just like exploring the massive map.
My own guess on the upgrade tokens is that it will be the same token, but it might cost two of them to get the T6X2 (total of three spent to reach that level).
I would imagine that they are doing this because if you are like me. You have an account bank swimming with many of these T-X tokens in it. Using a different token for an X-2 would seem just silly if Cryptic wants to try to get people to spend these.
I like the way this game is monetised. It is a much better model allowing players to play for free. If you compare that to other Star Trek games like Fleet Command, you pay $100 or $200 for the shards to get the ship, but to upgrade it, would take 2 or 4x $100 packs. Then the ship is redundant after 1-2 years.
I would welcome difficulty harder than elite, and all existing and future tfo's getting advanced, elite and above difficulty. I run the advanced tfo Playlist with friends often for marks and dill and it's sooo repetitive. There's so many tfos that are normal only that could be made advanced and added to the Playlist.
I have been wanting to add an extra console to some of my ships on the PS4 Version for sometime now and this will let me do that. Hopefully they do use the old tokens to do so for I have some saved. I don’t waste money in the game and once I get the T-6 ship I want for any of my created characters they keep that ship, I don’t buy ships because I like them or to get consoles. I play with what I have. This will just allow me to try out the extra consoles I want to.
I will be very surprised if they let you use existing experimental upgrades for T6-X2. I'm predicting they'll offer them only in packs of 4 for 47500 zen. They'll have an initial sale price of 25600 zen per pack.
My main still flies a fleet T5-X, mostly because of the crappy console layout of the T6 Patrol Escort. That T5-X does well. I'm hoping the X2 upgrade can be used on a T5-X.
Cryptic has already said they won't do t7 and they won't, as it would pretty much kill the game as people have invested and had time to get used to their t6 ships and like to fly them, t7 would make it so their t6 ship was worse, and wouldn''t like to invest in a whole new ship so they would quit, that was what happened with delta raising and t5 to t6, just that know we've had more time to get used to t6
And technically it won't. The existing T6 ships are merely getting expanded and improved gradually. It's not a new tier, just an optional improvement of the existing T6 for those who want MOAR POWAH and expanded build options.
At this point we'll just keep getting new upgrades to our t6 ships. And the thing with this new upgrade cylce is that it doesn't make a ship worse, all ships get improved pretty much equaly. And also, even if you disagree what cryptic added with t6x2, liek you would of preffered an extra weapons slot or boff slot, we can all agreed that what we got is still an improvment

Incidentally, if ever those guys who take a peak into future updates through cracking the game files could ever help out the community -- this would be the time ... , to help avoid loading up on unnecessary X1 Tokens (if a new X2 Token is in the works) . (or alternatively confirming that X1 Tokens are needed, so players can buy the Tokens now, while the Phoenix Box event is running) Any chance that you could reach out and let us know ?
STO said the same thing with t6 ships, that they were not going to make t6 ships. Yet they did make t6, so who is to say they won't someday make t7 (and beyond) ships.
Power creep is so out of control it is not even worth discussing anymore. The horses aren't just out of the barn, they built their own rocket ships and are colonizing Mars! 😆 And it's not like PVP is a thing anymore in STO where imbalance is an issue developers try to control. 🤣 Sure they may play whack-a-mole if one power here or there is too powerful, but they've given up on a totally balanced system.
LOL! PVP was a dead horse back in 2012, but It was fun. That PVP horse has been atomized, and the horse's atoms has been sent to 'oblivion' currently. This new ship update will destroy the 'Oblivion'. PVP should be removed at this point.

Europe is the same way, 2000 = 20 euro, 3000 = 30 Euro's there is NO difference. I wouldn't mind if they give out the T7 ships for a cost, I mean the ships look awesome but I agree if you could just upgrade the existing one with money. And I been with STO from launch and they never over did it with cost or money grabbing. They dealt fair with the people except with the harry's store that still is the most money grabbing store in game. Well I look out to your next video !

If they want to keep making more and more power creep, they should add content with bosses that are actually challenging that drop things people want, so we have a reason to play the game and not just measure our e-peens shooting the same borg over and over with 100x the damage needed to kill them.

Yeah really hoping they are using the same token, like right now i have like 6 X-tokens in my bank just from the past red alerts and that would just give me something to actually use them on. vs them just ending up like the Captain/boff elite upgrade where i only spend money on my main and haven't touched the system since.
I don't think this upgrade x2 will be like a T7 ship,the ships are still T6 because the major diference about T5 from T6 is specializations seating of the boffs,of course it comes with more consoles and a trait,more device slots and more hull,but,both tiers can be upgraded to X so the big difference is the Boff Seats and the trait,then a T7 have to be an entire new ship with another boff slot and maybe more weapons slots to make it different from the previous T6 "whatever "X" have,a T7 will be better because the T6 don't have that option available.

The problem with T7 ships would be, that practically all available Star Trek ships available are either T5 or T6 already. They either would have to re-release existing ships as T7 upgrades, which wouldn't make much sense and piss off a lot of existing players, or develop new ships as T7 which would simply be too much work. Also we already have the lockbox and legendary ships. The way to successively just add console slots to existing ships via existing X-upgrade tokens is the easiest way to improve ship's stats and performance going forward. I think they could go up to T6-X4 without changing up the existing UI. Would be the simplest way mechanics wise and every player could easily afford it with the T6-X tokens being available both in the Zen store and Phoenix price pack events for Dil, and free from recurring mini events. And since they just did another Phoenix event on PC when the last one was only a short while back, that indicates they wanted to give players a chance to stock up on T6-X tokens before the release.
While I think it's lazy of Cryptic, who wouldn't want to have more consoles on their ship. And it's cheaper than buying a T7 ship. 😆 Plus you know they will hand out enough of them throughout the year, that a lot of people will find that supply sufficient for their needs without spending money.

If they hadd content for these new ships this is good thing. if they dont, or they fubar the content where it's just not challenging enough, then this is meangless power creep for a cash grab. The content they added for the T6/T6x stuff fell short of the mark. You can do nearly all of it with a regular T6, or even a T5, just alot slower. at this point T6 and Zen ships isnt necessary, it just means you can grind faster then a T5x...casue you can still do most of it with a T5x. My only concern is them in a general content, like pugs and stuf. Advanced TFO's can be over in seconds becuase or power creep as it is. What they need to do, what they reeeeeallly need to do, is figure out some end game content. as it is now, once you get the gear 8for* end game, you realzied that *was* the end game, there's nothing for you to do but parade around your shiny at ESD. What they should have done along time ago, befie PvP died, was create Romi as legit third faction of their own, then establish nuetral zones between the three factions. as with most games, this is where PvPer's can fight back and forth fro control over those neutral zone areas with certain loots and mats to profit from while you have control. That's end game content, but they let PvP die for lack of purpose, and now the end game is hanging around ESD talking politics while prancing around in your space barbie toon.
I dunno, for me who is not spending anything on this game, it feels like to screw with me. It took me a year to get 4 of my ships to T6x after getting event ships for years(which rendered 8 of my 12 ships fleet entirely useless) and now BAM I am in need of upgrading again. It is getting out of hand in a very unfriendly way towards me and I am thinking on just dropping out after 11 years of playing.
You have to take your hat off to Craptic, A 14 year old game that can easily get the user to pay the same amount for a AAA game just for a single ship.
Meh, kind of don't care about the never ending power creep. I just play new episodes when they release them, this just isn't the game it used to be. I remember when PVP used to be fun... and when you joined a round of Borg Space you HAD to destroy the nanite nodes in the right order. Now players ships are so powerful they can actually destroy the generator before the nanite nodes.
Why are you implying (at 1:30 ish) that the X upgrade can only be applied to a Fleet version? I’ve watched it twice and that’s what’s inferred. You make no mention that you don’t need to have a Fleet version of the ship to use the X upgrade. Hell, you can use it on a T5-U if you wanted to!
How does one run a solo elite TFO? I tried to run a private elite TFO and it says my party is too small, even when I was grouped with my brother. So, technically not solo, but just the two of us would not work. Did I miss something?
This is a mess both from an ease of use stand point and a power creep/balance perspective. It was easy to understand back in the day you had tier 1-5 with tier 5 fleet ships. now we have T5, T5-E, T6, T6-X, T-6x2 plus the miracle worker console slots and the fleet configurations of T5 and T6 ships.
Should be a new difficulty and call it the kobayashi maru difficulty or Legendary p.s. will the x2 upgrade carry the upgrade to the ship if you get in on another characters
What the heck was STO's menu doing at the beginning... showing your Runabout's info in the name area?🤦 If they do decide to implement a new resource, hopefully they unlock all t5-U ships to full unlock and devalue that overpriced token. Hope they don't go that route and just allow multiple uses of the original -X token though.
T-7, isn't the upgrade T6-X2 ? I ask because I don't think we are getting anything like hull upgrades, turn rate or anything like that like you would get with an actual Tier upgrade.
@@MCStuMy expectation it that the X2 upgrade will be a new token from the Z store with that being the only way to get it. The price will be twice the cost of an X upgrade token. It will be two years or more before we get a free way to earn the token. Or it might cost 500 lobi.
Im excited for the new upgrade, my vaaduar juggy hits like a truck at t6X already, wondering how it will be at t6X2. been playing for twelve years, i remember when the ships had no warp cores lol. Lifetime sub saves me the hassle for zen for items like tokens

No this is it. I bought an LTS to make sure that I didn't have to spend another dime. I'm not going to keep buying these. Just like I'm not going to keep buying upgrades for my bridge officers. I don't mind spending a little money on the game but this is getting ridiculous.
So you also for longterm players have reclaim T1/T4 can you do somthing with those ? I mean after T6, T1/T4 where useless so i believe but can you upgrade those ?

Cryptic promised no Teir 7. But this T6-2X is essentially that. The only way you could argue it is NOT is that there's no new thingamabob like T6 had ship traits.
The phoenix event atm feels like a push to really kill the dil backlog by making us think and hope this mystery upgrade will use normal t6x upgrades.

Assuming they repeat the same pattern as last year, you could get that $48 ship for $0. Provided you have another 3+ months worth of patience.
Last year they gave everyone a 100% off T6 ship coupon during the winter event. You can claim the fleet ship module from a rep, then do the red alert that's happening RIGHT NOW for an X token. If you completed the red alert a couple months ago you should still have a second one from that (unless you spent it) and if not, Cryptic will run another red alert this year (probably) or even just give away an X token during the winter event. By early December you could have everything you need for this for free.
That said, I've always maintained that the game is worth spending what you would spend on any other AAA game, so about $60 or $70. The best new player ship in the game right now (personal opinion) is the Terran Hydra, which doesn't require a fleet ship module. You could buy the elite services bundle, pick up the Hydra during one of the 25% off ship sales, and buy 10 keys, all for under $60. Sell the keys on the exchange and buy your X tokens there, much cheaper than the C-store price for the X tokens. For $60 you've got a ship you can reliably clear every piece of content in the game with.
But yes, you can also get it for free. idk, seems like the game is worth spending a LITTLE money on to me. The people who play 100% F2P seem...I don't want to say "spiteful," but maybe "unreasonably proud" of the fact that they're not giving the developers a cent, and I wouldn't be ashamed of that, but I wouldn't be proud of it either, if it were me. The game is worth supporting financially, I think.

considering i have a carrier that i like but find that i dont use much due to having to pick and choose which ships i want to deploy i like your idea having another hanger would allow me to deploy both my fighter screen and my frigate escorts
Setting character difficulty to elite and running Iupiter Iratus patrol to hard is a nice challenge over existing content. Hopefully they bring this to other content.
I do hope that it is the same upgrade token, and you just need to use two of them, rather than needing a T6-X coupon, AND a T6-X2 coupon.
6:05 is absolutely the most crucial question as to whether I like this or not.
I highly doubt it's going to be the same token & you just used two of them. It's going to be a brand new one. And probably cost 25-50% more on the C-store. (If they plan to have a 3x and 4x token eventually, then maybe the price increase won't be as dramatic.)

I'd like to see a T6 small craft (up gradable to X) with additional content (modified TFO's) as well as crafting for equipment (-S). [-s being more powerful then non -s equipment]
I have never purchased a T6-X token, but I have upgraded plenty of ships and still have 4-5 in the bank. I'm pretty sure it will be the same with the T6-2X ones eventually. 😆
Fleet versions also come with 10% extra hull and shields if I recall correctly.
Plus we also have Legendary versions of ships that can be purchased.
would be nice to see the extra device slot switched for an experimental weapon slot. we already have enough device slots.
Be nice if we can just use the X upgrades we already have. Maybe it's time to offer the Red Alerts with additional difficulties too.
I expect that it would work like the T5-U upgrade and the Experimental upgrade, so a new token for the T6-X2. But i wouldn't be upset if it was to use the Experimental upgrade since they are easy to get.
The T6-X2 ships are basically T7-X ships, so maybe in the future we may see T7 ships, once the waters has been tested. They dont want a reaction like they did when they went from T5 to T6.

@@stue2298 That's exactly it. Spend $30+ on a T6 ship. Then spend more and more to keep upgrading it. As it is, a T-6 ship would cost between 50 to 60 (Projected) to upgrade to T-6-X2. Then add likely another 30 bucks to get to X3 if they ever do that.

I mean T6 and all the X & fleet upgrades make it more easy to steamroll content but it doesn't make T5Ux2 less useful since the content is the same so if you could do elite runs in a Galor you can still do it now difference being that a T6X2 will do it faster, the only major difference could be in pvp but that is dead, burried & forgotten.
@@DerDrecksack87 Yes T5 ships and their U and X versions can be used, but they are out of date. How many people use T5 ships when they have a choice of T6 ships, i am guessing not many. The only reasons you would fly a T5 ship over a T6 ship is you like the challenge or you like the look of the ship and dont care how it performs.
The only reason to buy a T5 ship is for the console, you are not buying it for the trait cause it doesnt have one and you not buying it to fly.
Look at how many T5 ships cryptic have removed from the game because they where obsolete.
Devices - drop the Nimbus beaconit works from inventory. Add Red Matter Capacitor, Temporal Negotiator, Ablative Armor consumables and maybe the new fleet ship device.
Delta Alliance reinforcements also works from inventory.

If Cryptic thinks they can sell an upgrade for real money then they'll absolutely do it. Obviously that's an issue for those of us that have a lot of the original 'x' coupons. I'm hopeful they'll put them in the Phoenix boxes again.
I CAN NOT SOLO ELITE. And I’m an average loyal player since the game came out. I did some elite TFOs recently to gather mats for the “new consoles”. One of the players in the group bullied me, claiming that I did not do enough damage. All my gear is XV and tuned accordingly. I bet I am part of a majority of players in the same situation. Trying to embrace the Elite TFOs. But it’s NOT “easy”. I welcome this X2 upgrade. Even though I will admit another device slot is dumb.

I play with angle on Xbox, he works in the art department for cryptic, he told me over a year ago they was planning on coming out with T7’s
So, this new token must be to get the T6 ships to be able to compete with the T7's.
I have a feeling the T7 is already here in its basic form as legendary ships. They have far more console slots than a T6.
I also think that new T7's will be upgrades of existing ships, like the T5 Aventine vs the T6 ones.
My thought, is that Bridge Officers get kit module abilities, like our captains do for away team play. That is begging to be added.
oh and dont forget a few of the newer t-6 ships come with more than 11 console slots i have a t-6 that came with 12 by default and with the upgrade it is now 13 and considering its a carrier with 5 fore and 4 rear weapons it is pretty much a bringer of death to any enemy it comes across
Maybe a year ago I came up with a fantasy X2 upgrade. It would have been somewhat more powerful than what we're getting and was accordingly fairly costly. Hopefully with what the real X2s are giving, it only takes another of the existing Experimental Upgrade tokens.

for an Aussie the price works out to around $120 due to the tax and extra we have to pay i know as i have spent around $4000 on this game over the last few yrs in fact im glad my old computer exploded so i am forced to start getting my games back again its making me thing which i really want back and i must admit the ones i have the habit of spending money on are pretty low on my list right now
I'd need to see how it works before passing judgement. Non-competitive players don't really have a need to max upgrade everything. For me personally, I would only care to max upgrade my main ship (currently the Verne) as I use it 99% of the time on my main character. Speaking for console (that's where I play), unless they've went into the guts of the game & fixed certain things such as manual clicky powers not activating properly, powers set to auto not activating properly, the inability for the system to handle activating multiple powers at once, the overly silly skill wheel that continually rearranges the location of the skills (rendering muscle memory nonexistent), etc, I'm not sure adding more to a ship is all that appealing.
Being able to do more with my ship sounds good, but when I think about it, due to the problems I listed above, I end up not even using most of the non auto-use powers I have equipped on my ships because the hassle isn't worth it most of the time. As it stands now, they would need to make some in-engine fixes before another upgrade is something I'd even care about. Again, have to see how it's gonna work before passing judgment.
I would also add a sort system specifically when your upgrading things, and an overhaul to the chat system on console. It’s taken a long time figuring out how to navigate the game and I would think that is why most quit before they realize the game is pretty cool. There are many levels and many games within the main game that all take time to figure out just like exploring the massive map.
They would’ve already said how if it used the same upgrade token.

My own guess on the upgrade tokens is that it will be the same token, but it might cost two of them to get the T6X2 (total of three spent to reach that level).

Very few people went the T6 X2 route. They would done the same thing for Captain Tokens if it did.
Cool part. Will make fun and canon style builds more viable. Downside I see is a new token. Guess it depends what it costs and how we get them.
I would imagine that they are doing this because if you are like me. You have an account bank swimming with many of these T-X tokens in it. Using a different token for an X-2 would seem just silly if Cryptic wants to try to get people to spend these.
I like the way this game is monetised. It is a much better model allowing players to play for free.
If you compare that to other Star Trek games like Fleet Command, you pay $100 or $200 for the shards to get the ship, but to upgrade it, would take 2 or 4x $100 packs. Then the ship is redundant after 1-2 years.
I would welcome difficulty harder than elite, and all existing and future tfo's getting advanced, elite and above difficulty. I run the advanced tfo Playlist with friends often for marks and dill and it's sooo repetitive. There's so many tfos that are normal only that could be made advanced and added to the Playlist.
I have been wanting to add an extra console to some of my ships on the PS4 Version for sometime now and this will let me do that. Hopefully they do use the old tokens to do so for I have some saved. I don’t waste money in the game and once I get the T-6 ship I want for any of my created characters they keep that ship, I don’t buy ships because I like them or to get consoles. I play with what I have. This will just allow me to try out the extra consoles I want to.
I will be very surprised if they let you use existing experimental upgrades for T6-X2. I'm predicting they'll offer them only in packs of 4 for 47500 zen. They'll have an initial sale price of 25600 zen per pack.
$50 per token? No, cryptic isn't that greedy and they know there aren't enough players willing to spend that much for an extra upgrade.
My main still flies a fleet T5-X, mostly because of the crappy console layout of the T6 Patrol Escort. That T5-X does well. I'm hoping the X2 upgrade can be used on a T5-X.
Cryptic has already said they won't do t7 and they won't, as it would pretty much kill the game as people have invested and had time to get used to their t6 ships and like to fly them, t7 would make it so their t6 ship was worse, and wouldn''t like to invest in a whole new ship so they would quit, that was what happened with delta raising and t5 to t6, just that know we've had more time to get used to t6

And technically it won't. The existing T6 ships are merely getting expanded and improved gradually. It's not a new tier, just an optional improvement of the existing T6 for those who want MOAR POWAH and expanded build options.
The phoenix event is not really announced, so I started launching my toon from ds9 to check if the prize vendor is spawned
At this point we'll just keep getting new upgrades to our t6 ships. And the thing with this new upgrade cylce is that it doesn't make a ship worse, all ships get improved pretty much equaly. And also, even if you disagree what cryptic added with t6x2, liek you would of preffered an extra weapons slot or boff slot, we can all agreed that what we got is still an improvment
I'm hoping the next ship upgrade has Hull, Turn rate, and Boff slot upgrade. I'm glad we finally got another Starship Trait slot.

Its nicer for mid tier players like myself who don't have all the best traits but can mix in some more decent ones.

Power creep is so out of control it is not even worth discussing anymore. The horses aren't just out of the barn, they built their own rocket ships and are colonizing Mars! 😆 And it's not like PVP is a thing anymore in STO where imbalance is an issue developers try to control. 🤣 Sure they may play whack-a-mole if one power here or there is too powerful, but they've given up on a totally balanced system.
LOL! PVP was a dead horse back in 2012, but It was fun. That PVP horse has been atomized, and the horse's atoms has been sent to 'oblivion' currently. This new ship update will destroy the 'Oblivion'. PVP should be removed at this point.

I wouldn't mind if they give out the T7 ships for a cost, I mean the ships look awesome but I agree if you could just upgrade the existing one with money. And I been with STO from launch and they never over did it with cost or money grabbing. I don't think this upgrade x2 will be like a T7 ship,the ships are still T6 because the major diference about T5 from T6 is specializations seating of the boffs,of course it comes with more consoles and a trait,more device slots and more hull,but,both tiers can be upgraded to X so the big difference is the Boff Seats and the trait,then a T7 have to be an entire new ship with another boff slot and maybe more weapons slots to make it different from the previous T6 "whatever "X" have,a T7 will be better because the T6 don't have that option available.

The problem with T7 ships would be, that practically all available Star Trek ships available are either T5 or T6 already. They either would have to re-release existing ships as T7 upgrades, which wouldn't make much sense and piss off a lot of existing players, or develop new ships as T7 which would simply be too much work. Also we already have the lockbox and legendary ships.
The way to successively just add console slots to existing ships via existing X-upgrade tokens is the easiest way to improve ship's stats and performance going forward.
I think they could go up to T6-X4 without changing up the existing UI. Would be the simplest way mechanics wise and every player could easily afford it with the T6-X tokens being available both in the Zen store and Phoenix price pack events for Dil, and free from recurring mini events. And since they just did another Phoenix event on PC when the last one was only a short while back, that indicates they wanted to give players a chance to stock up on T6-X tokens before the release.

While I think it's lazy of Cryptic, who wouldn't want to have more consoles on their ship. And it's cheaper than buying a T7 ship. 😆 Plus you know they will hand out enough of them throughout the year, that a lot of people will find that supply sufficient for their needs without spending money.
I really doubt it will be same token so they can make more money on tow upgrade token instead of one it's a cash grab plain and simple.

If they hadd content for these new ships this is good thing. if they dont, or they fubar the content where it's just not challenging enough, then this is meangless power creep for a cash grab.
The content they added for the T6/T6x stuff fell short of the mark. You can do nearly all of it with a regular T6, or even a T5, just alot slower.
at this point T6 and Zen ships isnt necessary, it just means you can grind faster then a T5x...casue you can still do most of it with a T5x.
My only concern is them in a general content, like pugs and stuf. Advanced TFO's can be over in seconds becuase or power creep as it is.
What they need to do, what they reeeeeallly need to do, is figure out some end game content. as it is now, once you get the gear 8for* end game, you realzied that *was* the end game, there's nothing for you to do but parade around your shiny at ESD.
What they should have done along time ago, befie PvP died, was create Romi as legit third faction of their own, then establish nuetral zones between the three factions. as with most games, this is where PvPer's can fight back and forth fro control over those neutral zone areas with certain loots and mats to profit from while you have control.
That's end game content, but they let PvP die for lack of purpose, and now the end game is hanging around ESD talking politics while prancing around in your space barbie toon.
Been 12 years, why hasnt Cryptic boosted it to 100, instead of leaving our peak level at 65.

I dunno, for me who is not spending anything on this game, it feels like to screw with me. It took me a year to get 4 of my ships to T6x after getting event ships for years(which rendered 8 of my 12 ships fleet entirely useless) and now BAM I am in need of upgrading again. It is getting out of hand in a very unfriendly way towards me and I am thinking on just dropping out after 11 years of playing.
You have to take your hat off to Craptic, A 14 year old game that can easily get the user to pay the same amount for a AAA game just for a single ship.

Meh, kind of don't care about the never ending power creep. I just play new episodes when they release them, this just isn't the game it used to be. I remember when PVP used to be fun... and when you joined a round of Borg Space you HAD to destroy the nanite nodes in the right order. Now players ships are so powerful they can actually destroy the generator before the nanite nodes.
Why are you implying (at 1:30 ish) that the X upgrade can only be applied to a Fleet version? I’ve watched it twice and that’s what’s inferred. You make no mention that you don’t need to have a Fleet version of the ship to use the X upgrade. Hell, you can use it on a T5-U if you wanted to!

How does one run a solo elite TFO? I tried to run a private elite TFO and it says my party is too small, even when I was grouped with my brother. So, technically not solo, but just the two of us would not work. Did I miss something?

This is a mess both from an ease of use stand point and a power creep/balance perspective. It was easy to understand back in the day you had tier 1-5 with tier 5 fleet ships. now we have T5, T5-E, T6, T6-X, T-6x2 plus the miracle worker console slots and the fleet configurations of T5 and T6 ships.
T-1, T-2, T-3, T-4, T-5, T-5U, T-5 Fleet, T-5U Fleet, T-5X, T-5X Fleet, T-6, T-6X, T-6 Fleet, T-6X Fleet, and now add T-5X2, T-5X2 Fleet, T-6X2, and T-6X2 Fleet.

If they do decide to implement a new resource, hopefully they unlock all t5-U ships to full unlock and devalue that overpriced token. Hope they don't go that route and just allow multiple uses of the original -X token though.

@@MCStuMy expectation it that the X2 upgrade will be a new token from the Z store with that being the only way to get it. The price will be twice the cost of an X upgrade token. It will be two years or more before we get a free way to earn the token. Or it might cost 500 lobi.

Im excited for the new upgrade, my vaaduar juggy hits like a truck at t6X already, wondering how it will be at t6X2. been playing for twelve years, i remember when the ships had no warp cores lol. Lifetime sub saves me the hassle for zen for items like tokens
i hope it uses the normal upgrade tokens...

i still have 1 t6 ship i can get from the store... what fed ship has the best trait for unlock ... for a beam ship?

No this is it. I bought an LTS to make sure that I didn't have to spend another dime. I'm not going to keep buying these. Just like I'm not going to keep buying upgrades for my bridge officers. I don't mind spending a little money on the game but this is getting ridiculous.
So you also for longterm players have reclaim T1/T4 can you do somthing with those ? I mean after T6, T1/T4 where useless so i believe but can you upgrade those ?
You can only upgrade T5s, T1/T4 only good to get console or weapons of in some cases.
@@MCStu yeah like stuff from voyager, defiant, those special ships.. i thought because it said reclaim, i thought you could reclaim them as a T5 or T6. So except for some consoles it's worthless.
