So happy I made the decision to have cataract surgery, my vision is superb and far better than I ever expected. I can see as far as I can look without blurriness, colors are very bright and vibrant. I still need reading glasses for my computer but even looking at the computer with my new eyes is very exciting. I highly recommend cataract surgery if you have cataract in your eye.

I'm still pretty young but had cataract developed early on my left eye. I was sad & upset 😔 and tried to wait longer but until I almost hit the car right next to me because I couldn't see well. After that I decided to have surgery and I just had it for both eyes 5 weeks ago. My surgeon recommended Vivity Toric lens for my astigmatism and previous lasik. I can now see 20/20 for distance (no halos at night) , intermediate and I can read without glasses except very tiny fonts. I see everything so crystal clear and beautiful now and that makes me so happy. Glad I found a good surgeon near where I live.

These comments definitely give one pause. I had the left eye done earlier this week with a high end multifocal lens and it went fine, with vision much sharper and everything brighter. Today at the store suddenly I was aware of my nose in front of my face, which I guess is a factor in the brain getting used to the new vision. That sensation seems to have largely disappeared in the last few hours. I am getting occasional flashes in the edge of the field of vision--again, the physician says this will disappear as it is just adjustment. What is interesting with the one eye done is that blue looks much sharper (which it should, the naturally yellowing lens has been replaced with a clear one). Last night I told my wife her workout shirt was really purplish. She disagreed, but the sky looks as deep and bright as when I was a kid...if I use only the left eye. Will have the other one done next week. (I'm 72, have an excellent MD.)

As an artist who paints with color, I’m concerned. I’m due to have cataract surgery however reading about the color perception afterwards is giving me pause! Firstly, I don’t see a “haze of yellow” anywhere, and I look at tubes of white oil paint all day!
Second,” red appears magenta, black appears navy and brown looks like purple” is not okay! Monet had to wear blue blocking sunglasses when he was in his studio painting after cataract surgery and it was a disaster! But he had no choice, he was going blind. I just passed my DMV vision test, but my reading glasses need stronger prescriptions. Fifty years of studying color thrown out the window in one 15 minute surgery? Worth it or not? What about 20-50% chance of opacification? Permanent dry eye?

I had my surgery on my right eye about six weeks ago. Every time I stop using that final eye drop, I have severe pain in that eye in less than twenty four hours. I have lots of floaters and flashes. I have been back to the doctor three times in the last two weeks. I am trying not get get discouraged. Except for the cataract, my vision was pretty good before the surgery, so I am not experiencing the amazing transformation so many of my friends, acquaintances and coworkers claimed they had.

My cataract surgery was less than successful for my left eye. From day one have had a line across my vision. Also the starburst or halos never went away. The surgeon after 2 check ups said it's fine. My HMO required me so see an optometrist before I could see the opthalmologist again. She said I had cracked eyes!!!!! What???? So long story short, I self paid for a second opinion from a prior PPO opthalmologist. Turns out the lens is not in the correct position, and the line I see is the edge of the lens. The halos I still see at night are because the eye dilates and the light leaks around the lens. I asked if it was something I had done, he said unlikely, as I would have had to been hit in the eye to dislodge it. Correction is not recommended, as could cause complications.

I've seen videos from Dr. Shannon Wong showing patients who had similar problem as you described and they came to him to replace the lens and they were able to see well or better after that. Based on my experience, having surgery done with good doctors would reduce many problems and have better outcome/result.

I'm 56 years old, I had cataract surgery in my right eye about six weeks ago, and I am not the least bit happy with it. I spent $4,000 out of pocket AFTER my two forms of insurance covered their part, and I still have cloudy vision. I've been back to the ophthalmologist who performed the surgery twice, and he tells me everything looks perfectly normal, and I just need to give it more time, but I swear it's as if I didn't have the surgery at all. It's as if I'm still looking through a cloudy cataract. I am absolutely crushed over it. Now I'm wondering if I should even bother having my left eye done.

@@visontherapy Thank you for your response, and also for responding so quickly. I don't know if there's any advice you can offer for how I move forward. I understand you can't and wouldn't be offering medical advice, but what should be my next step?
Also, I do have another issue I'm wonder if you could comment on as well. Let me start by saying I'm one of those people who really doesn't do anything without first doing a relatively extensive amount of research. However, I've yet to run across another person who describes their cataract surgery experience to be anything like what I experienced. During my surgery I was in an incredible amount of pain. Leading up to the surgery I was told by my ophthalmologist that I'd be sedated much like I'd been sedated for the handful of colonoscopies I've had over the years. Not entirely asleep, but sort of in a twilight. For every colonoscopy I've ever had, they might as well had just given me a general anesthetic, because my experience was just like going completely under. However, when I had my cataract surgery, I wasn't under, I wasn't in any sort of twilight, and I most certainly wasn't made the least bit comfortable. In fact, I was ENTIRELY lucid to the point that if they'd sat me up, I could have done my taxes right then and there.
It was literally one of the most painful experiences of my life. So much so that I left there that day pretty traumatized, and literally had a nightmares about it that night. I was in so much pain during the surgery that they had someone holding my legs down just below my knees because I simply could not lay still. I recall right near the end he finally asked the anesthesiologist to give me more medication, but there was no change in the pain level or in my consciousness at all. It was as if they were injecting nothing but water into my IV.
Also, after the surgery the ophthalmologist said near the end of the surgery he got what he called "a surprise." He said as he was finishing up, and was sucking out the viscoelastic that some of my vitreous fluid was sucked into the little pocket where the lens resides, so the surgery took much longer than expected, because he had to remove that vitreous jelly. He said in all the years he's been doing cataract surgeries, he's never had that happen before. So could that be what's causing my issues now? As I said, twice I've been back to see him, but he says everything looks normal, but for me, when looking through that eye, I can say for certain nothing looks as it should anymore. Should I be going elsewhere to get a second opinion? My current clinic is Swagel Wootton, which to my understanding is a pretty reputable place. I just don't know how to proceed from here.

I had an epiretinal membrane on my left retina for 16 years that was finally removed 8 months ago. The eye is recovering reasonably well but I've got left over double vision due to the extended period of time that the left eye I was out of commission. Now I'm having cataract surgery on my right eye in two weeks. It sounds like I'm headed for the same type of treatment that was described in the video. I was told I'll need to see a neuro-ophthalmologist after the cataract surgery.

Hi Joseph, you need to talk with the surgeon about the lens. It seems as if you have monovision where one eye is at distance and the other eye is near. Also if you have double vision you need to have that evaluated..

I wonder if cataracts are actually a fungus or yeast. I noticed when I cut process sugar out of my diet my vision improves. Less screen time helps too. Some days there are not clouds in my eyes. What I do notice is if there is alot of light behind some one I can't make out there face. I have a hard time seeing at night when bright car lights come towards me from the adjacent lane only. Hmmm

    • @visontherapy
      @visontherapy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thats an interesting observation. Sugar does cause a lot of problems. There also seems to be an increased incidence of cataracts in patient populations with glucose imbalances so your observation is logical and makes sense. Of course a balanced low sugar diet is definitely advantageous to the alternative "western" diet.

It could be a ‘secondary cataract’ which is not really a cataract, but a membrane that didn’t stop growing over the new lens, once the body has accepted the new lens. A day or so after my cataract surgery I suddenly got a fairly significant floater.
It appears to be attached towards the top (of my vision).
It swings across my vision in the opposite direction of my eye movement - when I look to the left, it swings to the right, when I look to the right it swings to the left.
It 'swings' because it appears to be attached at the top, so it swings like a pendulum. It is not free floating, does not rotate, and does not float around. Its position
    is stable.
When I called my surgeon about it, she minimized it, said I would just have to live with it.
It has been 5-7 years or so and is still there, although I notice it less.
IDuring my regular eye exam today, the doctor didn't seem to know anything about it (this is someone different, not the person who did the surgery).
Can you point me toward more information as to what this might be? What is this called? Where in my eye would this be?

@Telugu facts formula hi Tegulu. Unfortunately there could be many reasons why you are experiencing what you are experiencing. So the best thing to do is schedule a consultation with Dr Steinhauer to discuss it. Perhaps she will find this within the scope of what we can help you with.
You can schedule your online consultation here: www.visionforlifeworks.com.
Thank you for being here and we look forward to seeing you on the consultation schedule!

Toric lens is given to rectify cylindrical number. So the number may reduce a little. But will need to use glasses especially for reading

I am terrified of having cataract surgery. I had an accidental tear in one eye last year, and they put a "contact bandage" on it. It was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I have had broken bones that hurt less. Finally, after being awake for 2 nights, I told the doctors to take it out. If they did anything like that during catarat surgery, I would go insane. I wore hard contact lenses for 40 years and loved them. Never could get used to the soft contact lenses. I just can not adjust to messing with my eyes, especially after reading all these people having terrible outcomes after cataract surgery. Besides, they will never do cataract surgery because my blood pressure is too high and the anesthesiologist said I could have a stroke and my eye doctor said if my eye started bleeding, they would have to stop and I would lose my entire eye. I love my eyes.

If you ask a group of 10 senior citizens about cataract surgery. Four will have had issues. Yelp reviews are bought.
